| 2 | Sensors and healthcare 5.0:transformative shift in virtual care through emerging digital health technologies显示文摘Emerging digital technologies continues to evolve posing unprecedented opportunities in health systems globally to improve healthcare services delivery.There has been significant progress in healthcare.However,the lack of emotive recognition coupled with a dearth of personalized and pervasive health applications and emotive smart devices calls for the integration of intelligent sensors health systems through emerging technologies.Although there has been significant progress in smart and connected health care,more research innovation,dissemination and technologies are needed to unbundle new opportunities and move towards healthcare 5.0.Healthcare is at the dawn of a paradigm change to reach the new era of smart disease control and detection,virtual care,smart health management,smart monitoring,and decision-making.Therefore,this study discusses the roles and capacities of sensors,their capabilities and other emerging technologies such as nanotechnology,5 G technologies,drone technology,blockchain,robotics,big data,internet of things,artificial intelligence,and cloud computing.Healthcare 5.0 provides healthcare services including patient remote monitoring.tracking and virtual clinics,emotive telemedicine,ambient assisted living,smart self-management,wellness monitoring and control,smart treatment reminders,compliance and adherence,and personalized and connected health care.However,building resilience and robust healthcare 5.0 is not immune to challenges.Organizational challenges,technological and infrastructural barriers,lack of legal and regulatory frameworks and e-health policies,individual perceptions,misalignment with hospitals'strategy,lack of funding,religious and cultural bariers are identified as potential barriers to the successful implementation of healthcare 5.0.Therefore,there is a need for building resilient technology-driven healthcare systems.To achieve this,there is a need for expanding technological infrastructure,provision of budgetary support based on sustainable business models,develop appropriate legal and e-health policies,standardization and synchronization of protocols,improving stakeholders'engagement and involvement and establishment of private and public partnerships and investments. | Elliot Mbunge Benhildah Muchemwa Sipho'esihle Jiyane John Batani | 2021 | Global Health Journal2021,5,4: | 2 |
| 3 | Nitrogen nutrition,carbon accumulation andδ^(13)C of Cyclopia and Aspalathus species in different settings of the Cape fynbos,South Africa显示文摘Aims Cyclopia and Aspalathus are legumes harvested for production of Honeybush and Rooibos tea,respectively.Farmers grow these species from either seeds or cuttings over several years with continuous annual harvesting.The aims of this study were to assess the effect of plant age,plant species,toposequence,planting material and farmer practice on nitrogen(N)nutrition and water-use efficiency of two Cyclopia and Aspalathus species in the Cape fynbos.Methods The study was conducted using plants from Koksrivier farm located near Gansbaai(33°S 18°E,39 m.a.s.l),and at Kanetberg farm near Barrydale(33°S 21°E,830 m.a.s.l).The 15N natural abundance technique was used to determine N_(2)fixation,carbon(C)assimilation andδ^(13)C in shoot of Cyclopia and Aspalathus species.Important Findings Older tea plantations of C.genistoides and C.subternata derived more N from fixation and exhibited greater water-use efficiency than younger plants.At Koksrivier,Aspalathus caledonensis and A.aspalathoides showed greater water-use efficiency and derived more N from fixation than Cyclopia genistoides.Annual harvesting of C.genistoides decreased N_(2)fixation.At Kanetberg,C.subter-nata plants on the upper and middle slopes derived more N from atmospheric fixation than those on the lower slope.C.subternata plants grown from seedlings recorded greater%Ndfa than cuttings.N_(2)fixation and water-use efficiency of Cyclopia was affected by age,slope and planting material.Further,symbiotic N nutrition and water-use efficiency of Cyclopia and Aspalathus were related. | Sipho T.Maseko Felix D.Dakora | 2016 | Journal of Plant Ecology2016,9,5: | 1 |

| 8 | Social Meanings of Attempted Suicide of Men in Bangladesh显示文摘Émile Durkheim’s Le Suicide(1897/2005)paved the way for the development of the sociology of suicide.However,Durkheim’s positivistic approach in studying suicide was trenchantly challenged by,amongst others,Jack Douglas,who,in Social Meanings of Suicide(1968),advocated extricating the social meanings of suicide from the interpretive tradition of social research.Drawing on Douglas’approach to the sociology of suicide,this paper reports and reflects on part of a study conducted across several rural areas of Jhenaidah,an area in Bangladesh highly affected by suicide,with 17 males who have attempted suicide.The responses of the participants were interpreted with a view to understanding the social meanings associated with their suicide attempts.Although there was a diversity of individual experiences among the participants with regard to suicide attempts,the paper synthesises these and reflects on three themes which most closely represent the commonalities of experience of the 17 men,namely:(i)inability to provide;(ii)intimate relationship stress;and(iii)loss of social status.In conclusion,the paper contributes to understanding suicide attempts by men as social meaningfully events,delineating the roles and complexities associated with constructions of masculine identities. | Anisur Rahman Khan Sipho Dlamini Kopano Ratele | 2022 | Fudan Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences2022,15,4: | 0 |
| 9 | Relationship between acid phosphatase activity and P concentration in organs of Cyclopia and Aspalathus species,and a non-legume of the Cape Floristic Region显示文摘Aims The role of tissue acid phosphatase(APase)activity of legumes and non-legumes in their P nutrition and adaptation to low-P soils is not well understood.To better understand this,a relationship between APase activ-ity and P concentration in leaves,stems,roots and nodules of legumes,Cyclopia and Aspalathus and a non-legume,Leucadendron strictum,all native to the P-poor soils of the Cape fynbos biome,was assessed.Methods Plants were collected and each separated into leaves,stems and roots.Phosphatase enzyme activity was assayed in soil using the p-nitrophenol method,while soil P and shoot P were measured using ICP-MS.To measure tissue APase activity,an acetate buffer was added into ground plant material and contents filtered.An ace-tate buffer and a p-nitrophenyl solution were added to the superna-tant and contents incubated.After incubation,NaOH(0.5 M)was added and absorbance read at 405 nm.Important Findings At Koksrivier,Cyclopia genistoides exhibited the highest leaf enzyme activity whilst Aspalathus aspalathoides showed the highest enzyme activity in the stems.At both Kleinberg and Kanetberg,Cyclopia subternata and Cyclopia longifolia showed the highest APase activity in leaves,followed by stems and low-est in roots.P concentration closely mirrored enzyme activity in organs of all test species from each site.APase activity posi-tively correlated with P concentration in organs of all the test Cyclopia and Leucadendron species,indicating that intracellular APase activity is directly linked to P mobilization and transloca-tion in these species.Percentage of N derived from fixation was positively correlated with tissue APase activity in C.genistoides(r=0.911^(*)),A.aspalathoides(r=0.868^(*))and Aspalathus cal-edonensis(r=0.957^(*)),suggesting that APase activity could be directly or indirectly linked to symbiotic functioning in these fynbos legumes,possibly via increased P supply to sites of N2 fixation. | Sipho T.Maseko Felix D.Dakora | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,2: | 0 |
