| 1 | Assessment of Indices of Temperature Extremes Simulated by Multiple CMIP5 Models over China显示文摘Given that climate extremes in China might have serious regional and global consequences, an increasing number of studies are examining temperature extremes in China using the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5)models. This paper investigates recent changes in temperature extremes in China using 25 state-of-the-art global climate models participating in CMIP5. Thirteen indices that represent extreme temperature events were chosen and derived by daily maximum and minimum temperatures, including those representing the intensity(absolute indices and threshold indices),duration(duration indices), and frequency(percentile indices) of extreme temperature. The overall performance of each model is summarized by a 'portrait' diagram based on relative root-mean-square error, which is the RMSE relative to the median RMSE of all models, revealing the multi-model ensemble simulation to be better than individual model for most indices. Compared with observations, the models are able to capture the main features of the spatial distribution of extreme temperature during 1986–2005. Overall, the CMIP5 models are able to depict the observed indices well, and the spatial structure of the ensemble result is better for threshold indices than frequency indices. The spread amongst the CMIP5 models in different subregions for intensity indices is small and the median CMIP5 is close to observations; however, for the duration and frequency indices there can be wide disagreement regarding the change between models and observations in some regions.The model ensemble also performs well in reproducing the observational trend of temperature extremes. | 2 | Features of colorectal cancer in China stratified by anatomic sites:A hospital-based study conducted in university-affiliated hospitals from 2014 to 2018显示文摘Objective:The clinical and biological characteristics of colorectal cancer have been found to differ depending on the anatomic site of the cancer.However,for Chinese patients,there is limited information on the proportion of cases at each site and the related features.In this study,we explored the location,distribution and other features of colorectal cancers at each anatomic site in Chinese patients.Methods:We conducted a hospital-based study using hospitalization summary reports from 10 Peking University-affiliated hospitals from 2014 to 2018;the reports covered a total of 2,097,347 hospitalizations.Incident cases were chosen as the study population,and their epidemiological features were further analyzed.Results:A total of 20,739 colorectal cancer patients were identified.Rectum was the most common location(48.3%)of the cancer,whereas the proportions of patients with distal and proximal colon cancer were 24.5%and18.6%,respectively.Patients with rectal cancer were predominantly male and were the youngest for all anatomical sites(each P<0.001).The highest proportion of emergency admissions,the longest hospital stays and the highest hospitalization costs were found in patients with proximal colon cancer(each P<0.001).The proximal colon cancer subgroup included the highest proportions of patients with medical histories of cholecystectomy,cholecystolithiasis and/or gallbladder polyps and appendectomy(P=0.009,P<0.001 and P<0.001,respectively).The distal colon cancer subgroup included the highest proportions of patients with medical histories of diabetes and hypertension(P<0.001,respectively).Conclusions:The patterns of colorectal cancer observed in this study differ from those reported for Western patients and show a significantly higher proportion of patients with rectal cancer.Different epidemiological features were also found based on anatomic sites.Further studies based on tumor location should be conducted to facilitate more accurate screening and treatment. | Ruize Qu Yanpeng Ma Liyuan Tao Xiaoyuan Bao Xin Zhou Bingyan Wang Fei Li Siyi Lu Lin Tuo Siyan Zhan Zhipeng Zhang Wei Fu | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,4: | 10 |

| 4 | Incidence and prevalence of moyamoya disease in urban China: a nationwide retrospective cohort study显示文摘Background and objective Moyamoya disease(MMD)is an increasingly recognised cause of stroke,mainly described in East Asia.China is the largest nation in Asia,but few studies reported the epidemiology of MMD,especially at a national level.We aimed to estimate the incidence and prevalence of MMD in China.Methods We performed a population-based study using data from the national databases of Urban Basic Medical Insurance between 2013 and 2016,covering approximately 0.50 billion individuals.MMD cases were identified by diagnostic code(International Classification of Diseases,10th Revision I67.5)or related diagnostic text.Results A total of 1987 MMD patients(mean age 44.45±14.30 years,female-to male ratio 1.12)were identified,representing a national crude incidence of 0.59(95%CI:0.49 to 0.68)and a prevalence of 1.01(95%CI:0.81 to 1.21)per 100000 person-years in 2016.Rates were higher in females than in males for the incidence(0.66 vs 0.52)and prevalence(1.05 vs 0.90).And the age-specific rates showed a bimodal distribution,with the highest peak in middle-aged group and the second peak in child group.Conclusions Our results confirm that MMD is relatively common in East Asians,but the rates in China were lower than those in other East Asian countries such as Japan and Korea.The unique epidemiological features,including a relatively weak female predominance and a shift in the highest peak of incidence from children to adults,revealed new sight into MMD.Further research is expected to explore the potential pathogenesis of MMD. | Yixin Sun Guoyu Zhou Jingnan Feng Lu Chen Guozhen Liu Jinxi Wang Qingliang Wang Junyou Yu Xiwang Yang Zheng Yang Pei Gao Shengfeng Wang Siyan Zhan | 2021 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,4: | 4 |
| 5 | Accurate machine learning models based on small dataset of energetic materials through spatial matrix featurization methods显示文摘A large database is desired for machine learning(ML) technology to make accurate predictions of materials physicochemical properties based on their molecular structure.When a large database is not available,the development of proper featurization method based on physicochemical nature of target proprieties can improve the predictive power of ML models with a smaller database.In this work,we show that two new featurization methods,volume occupation spatial matrix and heat contribution spatial matrix,can improve the accuracy in predicting energetic materials' crystal density(ρ_(crystal)) and solid phase enthalpy of formation(H_(f,solid)) using a database containing 451 energetic molecules.Their mean absolute errors are reduced from 0.048 g/cm~3 and 24.67 kcal/mol to 0.035 g/cm~3 and 9.66 kcal/mol,respectively.By leave-one-out-cross-validation,the newly developed ML models can be used to determine the performance of most kinds of energetic materials except cubanes.Our ML models are applied to predict ρ_(crystal) and H_(f,solid) of CHON-based molecules of the 150 million sized PubChem database,and screened out 56 candidates with competitive detonation performance and reasonable chemical structures.With further improvement in future,spatial matrices have the potential of becoming multifunctional ML simulation tools that could provide even better predictions in wider fields of materials science. | Chao Chen Danyang Liu Siyan Deng Lixiang Zhong Serene Hay Yee Chan Shuzhou Li Huey Hoon Hng | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,12: | 4 |
| 6 | Reduced Smoothened level rescues Aβ-induced memory deficits and neuronal inflammation in animal models of Alzheimer's disease显示文摘Emerging evidence suggests that neuro-inflammation begins early and drives the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease(AD), and anti-inflammatory therapies are under clinical development. However,several anti-inflammatory compounds failed to improve memory in clinical trials, indicating that reducing inflammation alone might not be enough. On the other hand, neuro-inflammation is implicated in a number of mental disorders which share the same therapeutic targets. Based on these observations,we screened a batch of genes related with mental disorder and neuro-inflammation in a classical olfactory conditioning in an amyloid beta(Aβ) overexpression fly model. A Smoothened(SMO) mutant was identified as a genetic modifier of Aβ toxicity in 3-min memory and downregulation of SMO rescued Aβ induced 3-min and 1-h memory deficiency. Also, Aβ activated innate inflammatory response in fly by increasing the expression of antimicrobial peptides, which were alleviated by downregulating SMO.Furthermore, pharmaceutical administration of a SMO antagonist LDE rescued Aβ-induced upregulation of SMO in astrocytes of mouse hippocampus, improved memory in Morris water maze(MWM), and reduced expression of astrocyte secreting pro-inflammatory factors IL-1 b, TNFa and the microglia marker IBA-1 in an APP/PS1 transgenic mouse model. | 7 | Vibration test condition for spacecraft lift-off environment显示文摘The purpose of the vibration test of spacecrafts is to assess their adaptability to low-frequency vibration environment during lift-off.This paper gives the simulation of the satellite ground vibration test(GVT) and the state of the satellite along with rocket during lift-off.The simulation results of these two states are compared on condition that the lateral vibration of satellite/launching vehicle(S/LV) interface is the same.It is shown that the dynamic responses of satellite vertex are totally different.This is because there is angular motion of S/LV interface during lift-off,but in the GVT,the angular motion is restrained.By means of numerical simulation of the lift-off state,the angular motion related to the translation motion of S/LV interface can be determined.Then,using this angular motion as supplementary condition to simulate the vibration test,the calculated dynamic responses of satellite vertex are identical with the lift-off state.It demonstrates that supplementing angular motion condition is an effective method to improve spacecraft ground vibration test more identically with the real lift-off environment.Furthermore,it is useful for the application of the multi-degree-of-freedom shaking table,and provides the basis for test condition requirement. | ZHU SiYan ZHU LiWen | 2012 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,7: | 3 |
| 8 | Optimization of Callus Induction Conditions from Immature Embryos in Maize and Plant Regeneration显示文摘This research uses the immature embryos of inbred maize lines(GSH9901,Hi01,Hi02,and Chang 7-2)as receptor materials to establish the callus induction system.These inbred lines provide the receptor materials for the genetic regeneration of maize and the verification of the genetic functions of maize.The factor experiment and orthogonal experiments were used to investigate the impacts of different genotypes,immature embryo size,shield orientation,2,4-D concentration,proline concentration,and folic acid concentration on the induction rate of embryogenic callus tissue.A sensitivity experiment testing glyphosate(Bar)and an antibiotic(Cefotaxime sodium)were also conducted.The results indicate that the immature embryos of inbred maize line GSH9901 were the most effective for callus tissue induction,and the immature embryos with a length of 1.6-2.0 mm produce the best result.The upward shield face is more successful for the formation of induced callus.Using orthogonal analysis,we found that the optimal combination for the induction system was A_(3)(2,4-D concentration 0.25 mg mL^(-1)),B_(1)C_(3)(proline concentration 0.8 mg mL^(-1)),and D 2(folate Concentration 0.5 mg mL^(-1))and the induction rate reached 84%.We found that cold storage at 4℃ for 1 d is more conducive for the formation of embryogenic callus than the other treatments tested.The sensitivity experiment for callus tissue screening revealed the critical concentration of glyphosate to be 10 mg ml^(-1),and the critical concentration of antibiotic is 250 mg ml^(-1).Using this combination of glyphosate and antibiotic resulted in regenerated plants.This study established the optimal conditions for immature embryo callus tissue induction in maize. | Peng Jiao Ruiqi Ma Zhuo Qi Zhenzhong Jiang Siyan Liu Jing Qu Shuyan Guan Yiyong Ma | 2020 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2020,89,1: | 3 |
| 9 | Determinants of delayed diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis in Cambodia:a mixed-methods study显示文摘Background:Cambodia is among the 30 countries in the world with the highest burden of tuberculosis(TB),and it is estimated that 40%of people with TB remain undiagnosed.In this study,we aimed to investigate the determinants of delayed diagnosis and treatment of TB in Cambodia.Methods:This mixed-method explanatory sequential study was conducted between February and September 2019 in 12 operational districts in Cambodia.It comprised of a retrospective cohort study of 721 people with TB,followed by a series of in-depth interviews.We assessed factors associated with time to TB diagnosis and treatment initiation using Cox proportional hazards model.Subsequently,we conducted in-depth interviews with 31 people with TB purposively selected based on the time taken to reach TB diagnosis,sex,and residence.Transcripts were coded,and thematic analyses were performed.Results:The median time from the onset of symptoms to TB diagnosis was 49 days(Interquartile range[IQR]:21–112).We found that longer time to diagnosis was significantly associated with living in rural area(Adjusted hazards ratio[aHR]=1.25;95%confidence interval[CI]:1.06–1.48);TB symptoms-cough(aHR:1.52;95%CI:1.18–1.94),hemoptysis(aHR 1.32;95%CI:1.07–1.63),and night sweats(aHR:1.24;95%CI:1.05–1.46);seeking private health care/self-medication(aHR:1.23;95%CI:1.04–1.45);and higher self-stigma(aHR:1.02;95%CI:1.01–1.03).Participants who received education level above the primary level were inversely associated with longer time to diagnosis(aHR:0.78;95%CI:0.62–0.97).The median time from TB diagnosis to the initiation of treatment was two days(IQR:1–3).The use of smear microscopy for TB diagnosis(aHR:1.50;95%CI:1.16–1.95)was associated with longer time to treatment initiation.Seeking private health care and self-medication before TB diagnosis,lack of perceived risk,threat,susceptibility,and stigma derived qualitatively further explained the quantitative findings.Conclusions:TB diagnostic delay was substantial.Increasing public awareness about TB and consciousness regarding stigma,engaging the private healthcare providers,and tailoring approaches targeting the rural areas could further improve early detection of TB and narrowing the gap of missing cases in Cambodia. | Alvin Kuo Jing Teo Chetra Ork Sothearith Eng Ngovlyly Sok Sovannary Tuot Li Yang Hsu Siyan Yi | 2020 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2020,9,3: | 2 |

| 11 | A preliminary study of polymer inclusion membrane for lutetium(Ⅲ)separation and membrane regeneration显示文摘This paper reports on the selective transport of Lu(Ⅲ)from La(III)and Sm(III)through a polymer inclusion membrane(PIM)composed of 40 wt%di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphinic acid(P227)and 60 wt%poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF).Basically,the changes in surface morphology,thickness and water contact angle of this PVDF-based PIM containing P227(P227@PVDF PIM)with different polymer concentrations were investigated.By solvent extraction experiments,it is found that Lu(Ⅲ)can be selectively extracted from La(Ⅲ)and Sm(Ⅲ)at pH 1.5 in hydrochloric acid solution.According to this result,P227@PVDF PIM was used to selectively transport Lu(Ⅲ)from hydrochloric acid feed solution containing similar concentration of La(Ⅲ)and Sm(Ⅲ).The recovery factor of Lu(III)is 91% after 36 h,and about 5%of Sm(Ⅲ)was also transported through the PIM.The concentration of La(III)in the feed solution and the stripping solution does not change.Furthermore,to overcome the ubiquitous decline of transport efficiency caused by the loss of carrier or the damage of membrane structure after long-term use of PIMs,a process for regenerating PIMs was first proposed and implemented.By comparison of the regenerated PIM with the normal PIM,there is almost no difference in the SEM image,ATR-FTIR spectrum and Lu(III)transport efficiency.It is expected that P227@PVDF PIMs have the potential to be applied to the grouped separation of rare earth elements(REEs),and this study also can be as an inspiration for the further study on the PIMs regeneration process. | Siyan Huang Ji Chen Dan Zou | 2021 | Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,10: | 2 |

As a multiuser sharing system, SCMA adopts message passing algorithm(MPA) for decoding scheme in receiver, but its iterative method leads to high computational complexity. Therefore, a serial message passing algorithm based on variable node(VMPA) is proposed in this paper. Making some subtle alterations to message update in original MPA, VMPA can greatly reduce overall computing complexity of decoding scheme. Furthermore, considering that serial structure may increase decoding delay, a novel grouping scheme based sparse matrix is applied to VMPA. | 16 | Efficacious selective separation of U(Ⅵ) over Mo(Ⅵ) using novel 2,9-diamide-1,10-phenanthroline ligands: Liquid-liquid extraction and coordination chemistry显示文摘Uranium and molybdenum are important strategic elements. The production of ^(99)Mo and the hydrometallurgical process of uranium ore face difficult problems of separation of uranium and molybdenum.In this study, the four phenanthroline diamide ligands were synthesized, and extraction and stripping experiments were performed under different conditions to evaluate the potential application of these ligands for separation of U(Ⅵ) over Mo(Ⅵ). With the growth of alkyl chain, the solubility of ligands could be greatly improved, and the separation effect of U(Ⅵ) over Mo(Ⅵ) gradually increased. The SF_(U/Mo) were around 10,000 at 4 mol/L HNO3. Three stripping agents were tested with the stripping efficiency of Na_(2)CO_(3)(5%) > H_(2)O > HNO_(3)(0.01 mol/L). The stripping percentages of the three stripping agents were all close to unity, indicating that the ligands had the potential to be recycled. The chemical stoichiometry of U(Ⅵ) complexes with ligands was evaluated as 1:1 using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry,ultraviolet visible spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
