1The association of benign prostatic hyperplasia with lower urinary tract stones in adult men: A retrospective multicenter study显示文摘Objective:To examine the relationship between benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)and the presence of lower urinary tract stones.Methods:We retrospectively reviewed the records of men with lower urinary tract stones who presented to three clinical centers in Korea over a 4-year period.We divided the patients into two groups based on the location of urinary stones:Group 1(bladder calculi)and Group 2(urethral calculi).We compared the characteristics of both groups and performed univariate and multivariate analyses with a logistic regression model to investigate the relationship between BPH and lower urinary tract stones.Results:Of 221 patients,194(87.8%)had bladder calculi and 27(12.2%)had urethral calculi.The mean age of Group 1 was higher than that of Group 2(68.9612.11 years vs.55.7414.20 years,p<0.001).The mean prostate volume of Group 1 was higher than that of Group 2(44.4727.14 mL vs.24.706.41 mL,respectively,p<0.001).Multivariate logistic regression showed that age(OR Z 1.075,95%CI:1.023e1.129)and prostate volume(OR Z 1.069,95%CI:1.017e1.123)were independently associated with increased risk for bladder calculi.Upper urinary tract stones and/or hydronephrosis conferred a 3-fold risk for urethral calculi(OR Z 3.468,95%CI:1.093e10.999).Conclusion:Age and prostate volume are independent risk factors for bladder calculi.In addition,men with upper urinary tract disease are at greater risk for urethral calculi,which may migrate from the upper urinary tract rather than from the bladder.Jae Hung Jung Jinsung Park Won Tae Kim Hong Wook Kim Hyung Joon Kim Sungwoo Hong Hee Jo Yang Hong Chung 2018Asian Journal of Urology2018,5,2:17
2Deep-learning-based inverse design model for intelligent discovery of organic molecules显示文摘The discovery of high-performance functional materials is crucial for overcoming technical issues in modern industries.Extensive efforts have been devoted toward accelerating and facilitating this process,not only experimentally but also from the viewpoint of materials design.Recently,machine learning has attracted considerable attention,as it can provide rational guidelines for efficient material exploration without time-consuming iterations or prior human knowledge.In this regard,here we develop an inverse design model based on a deep encoder-decoder architecture for targeted molecular design.Inspired by neural machine language translation,the deep neural network encoder extracts hidden features between molecular structures and their material properties,while the recurrent neural network decoder reconstructs the extracted features into new molecular structures having the target properties.In material design tasks,the proposed fully data-driven methodology successfully learned design rules from the given databases and generated promising light-absorbing molecules and host materials for a phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode by creating new ligands and combinatorial rules.Kyungdoc Kim Seokho Kang Jiho Yoo Youngchun Kwon Youngmin Nam Dongseon Lee Inkoo Kim Youn-Suk Choi Yongsik Jung Sangmo Kim Won-Joon Son Jhunmo Son Hyo Sug Lee Sunghan Kim Jaikwang Shin Sungwoo Hwang 2018npj Computational Materials2018,,1:4
3Hybridisation of perovskite nanocrystals with organic molecules for highly efficient liquid scintillators显示文摘Compared with solid scintillators,liquid scintillators have limited capability in dosimetry and radiography due to their relatively low light yields.Here,we report a new generation of highly efficient and low-cost liquid scintillators constructed by surface hybridisation of colloidal metal halide perovskite CsPbA_(3)(A:Cl,Br,I)nanocrystals(NCs)with organic molecules(2,5-diphenyloxazole).The hybrid liquid scintillators,compared to state-of-the-art CsI and Gd_(2)O_(2)S,demonstrate markedly highly competitive radioluminescence quantum yields under X-ray irradiation typically employed in diagnosis and treatment.Experimental and theoretical analyses suggest that the enhanced quantum yield is associated with X-ray photon-induced charge transfer from the organic molecules to the NCs.High-resolution X-ray imaging is demonstrated using a hybrid CsPbBr_(3) NC-based liquid scintillator.The novel X-ray scintillation mechanism in our hybrid scintillators could be extended to enhance the quantum yield of various types of scintillators,enabling low-dose radiation detection in various fields,including fundamental science and imaging.Sangeun Cho Sungwoo Kim Jongmin Kim Yongcheol Jo Ilhwan Ryu Seongsu Hong Jae-Joon Lee SeungNam Cha Eun BiNam Sang Uck Lee Sam Kyu Noh Hyungsang Kim Jungwon Kwak Hyunsik Im 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:4
4Multiaxially-stretchable kirigami-patterned mesh design for graphene sensor devices显示文摘In wearable electronics,significant research has gone into imparting stretchability and flexibility to otherwise rigid electronic components while maintaining their electrical properties.Thus far,this has been achieved through various geometric modifications of the rigid conductive components themselves,such as with microcracked,buckled,or planar meander structures.Additionally,strategic placement of these resulting components within the overall devices,such as embedding them at the neutral plane,has been found to further enhance mechanical stability under deformation.However,these strategies are still limited in performance,failing to achieve fully strain-insensitive electrical performance under biaxial stretching,twisting,and mixed strain states.Here,we developed a new platform for wearable,motion artifact-free sensors using a graphene-based multiaxially stretchable kirigami-patterned mesh structure.The normalized resistance change of the electrodes and graphene embedded in the structure is smaller than 0.5%and 0.23%under 180°torsion and 100%biaxial strain,respectively.Moreover,the resistance change is limited to 5%under repeated stretching-releasing cycles from 0%to 100%biaxial strain.In addition,we investigated the deformation mechanisms of the structure with finite element analysis.Based on the simulation results,we derived a dimensionless geometric parameter that enables prediction of stretchability of the structure with high accuracy.Lastly,as a proof-of-concept,we demonstrated a biaxially-stretchable graphene-based sensor array capable of monitoring of temperature and glucose level with minimized motion-artifacts.Hyo Chan Lee Ezekiel YHsieh Keong Yong SungWoo Nam 2020Nano Research2020,13,5:3
5Photoinduced difunctionalization with bifunctional reagents containing N-heteroaryl moieties显示文摘Bifunctional reagents that serve as dual coupling partners with an activating species have emerged as valuable synthetic tools in organic chemistry.They allow for the development of diverse reaction modes with enhanced efficiency and structural variability,which is in high demand for atom-economic and sustainable synthesis.Among them,bifunctional reagents containing Nheteroaryl groups have received much attention due to their ability to introduce privileged N-heteroaryl moieties into complex molecules that are otherwise challenging to access.Furthermore,these reagents have been employed under visible-light conditions to achieve various synthetic applications,enabling difunctionalization of alkenes,alkynes,and[1.1.1]propellanes under mild reaction conditions,providing access to highly functionalized N-heteroarenes.In this review,we provide an overview of the recent achievements and applications of photoinduced difunctionalization using bifunctional reagents containing N-heteroaryl groups.We systematically categorize the representative contributions in the field based on bifunctional reagents and their reactivity patterns.This review aims to highlight the potential of these reagents as powerful synthetic tools for sustainable and diverse synthesis.Wooseok Lee Inyoung Park Sungwoo Hong 2023Science China Chemistry2023,66,6:2
6Mechanically reconfigurable architectured graphene for tunable plasmonic resonances显示文摘Graphene nanostructures with complex geometries have been widely explored for plasmonic applications,as their plasmonic resonances exhibit high spatial confinement and gate tunability.However,edge effects in graphene and the narrow range over which plasmonic resonances can be tuned have limited the use of graphene in optical and optoelectronic applications.Here we present a novel approach to achieve mechanically reconfigurable and strongly resonant plasmonic structures based on crumpled graphene.Our calculations show that mechanical reconfiguration of crumpled graphene structures enables broad spectral tunability for plasmonic resonances from mid-to nearinfrared,acting as a new tuning knob combined with conventional electrostatic gating.Furthermore,a continuous sheet of crumpled graphene shows strong confinement of plasmons,with a high near-field intensity enhancement of~1×10^(4).Finally,decay rates for a dipole emitter are significantly enhanced in the proximity of finite-area biaxially crumpled graphene flakes.Our findings indicate that crumpled graphene provides a platform to engineer graphenebased plasmonics through broadband manipulation of strong plasmonic resonances.Pilgyu Kang Kyoung-Ho Kim Hong-Gyu Park SungWoo Nam 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:2
7Uniaxially crumpled graphene as a platform for guided myotube formation显示文摘Graphene,owing to its inherent chemical inertness,biocompatibility,and mechanical flexibility,has great potential in guiding cell behaviors such as adhesion and differentiation.However,due to the two-dimensional(2D)nature of graphene,the microfabrication of graphene into micro/nanoscale patterns has been widely adopted for guiding cellular assembly.In this study,we report crumpled graphene,i.e.,monolithically defined graphene with a nanoscale wavy surface texture,as a tissue engineering platform that can efficiently promote aligned C2C12 mouse myoblast cell differentiation.We imparted out-of-plane,nanoscale crumpled morphologies to flat graphene via compressive straininduced deformation.When C2C12 mouse myoblast cells were seeded on the uniaxially crumpled graphene,not only were the alignment and elongation promoted at a single-cell level but also the differentiation and maturation of myotubes were enhanced compared to that on flat graphene.These results demonstrate the utility of the crumpled graphene platform for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for skeletal muscle tissues.Junghoon Kim Juyoung Leem Hong Nam Kim Pilgyu Kang Jonghyun Choi Md Farhadul Haque Daeshik Kang SungWoo Nam 2019Microsystems & Nanoengineering2019,5,1:2
