9Overexpression of CmSOS1 confers waterlogging tolerance in Chrysanthemum显示文摘Plants experiencing hypoxia(a shortage of oxygen)are unable to maintain aerobic respiration,which leads to an energy and carbohydrate deficit.The pervasive and rapid accumulation of ethylene is an early and reliable response to hypoxic stress(Sasidharan and Voesenek 2015),producing an uptick in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS).This in turn triggers apoptosis in root cortex cells,eventually leading to the formation of lysigenous aerenchyma,a tissue from which ethylene is readily lost(Loreti et al.2016).In plants exposed to prolonged waterlogging,group VII ethylene response factors operate to activate the suite of genes required to establish anaerobic metabolism(Gibbs et al.2011);some of these genes are also modulated by ROS(Narsai et al.2011;Sasidharan and Voesenek 2015).The transcriptional activation of genes encoding group VII ethylene response factors is regulated by the hypoxia response attenuator 1(HRA1)protein(Pucciariello and Perata 2017).A link between the oxygen sensing and ROS signaling has been established involving the hypoxia‐responsive universal stress protein 1(HRU1),which interacts with the respiratory burst oxidase homolog D(RBOHD)(Gonzali et al.2015).Salinity also tends to induce ROS production(You and Chan 2015).Lijun Wang Jiaojiao Gao Zixin Zhang Weimiao Liu Peilei Cheng Wenting Mu Tong Su Sumei Chen Fadi Chen Jiafu Jiang 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,8:1

11Design of single-phased magnesium alloys with typically high solubility rare earth elements for biomedical applications:Concept and proof显示文摘Rare earth elements(REEs)have been long applied in magnesium alloys,among which the mischmetal-containing WE43 alloy has already got the CE mark approval for clinical application.A considerable amount of REEs(7 wt%)is needed in that multi-phased alloy to achieve a good combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.However,the high complex RE addition accompanied with multiple second phases may bring the concern of biological hazards.Single-phased Mg-RE alloys with simpler compositions were proposed to improve the overall performance,i.e.,“Simpler alloy,better performance”.The single-phased microstructure can be successfully obtained with typical high-solubility REEs(Ho,Er or Lu)through traditional smelting,casting and extrusion in a wide compositional range.A good corrosion resistance with a macroscopically uniform corrosion mode was guaranteed by the homogeneously single-phased microstructure.The bimodal-grained structure with plenty of sub-grain microstructures allow us to minimize the RE addition to<1 wt%,without losing mechanical properties.The single-phased Mg-RE alloys show comparable mechanical properties to the clinically-proven Mg-based implants.They exhibited similar in-vitro and in-vivo performances(without local or systematic toxicity in SD-rats)compared to a high purity magnesium.In addition,metal elements in our single-phased alloys can be gradually excreted through the urinary system and digestive system,showing no consistent accumulation of RE in main organs,i.e.,less burden on organs.The novel concept in this study focuses on the simplification of Mg-RE based alloys for biomedical purpose,and other biodegradable metals with single-phased microstructures are expected to be explored.Dong Bian Xiao Chu Jin Xiao Zhipei Tong He Huang Qinggong Jia Jianing Liu Wenting Li Hui Yu Yue He Limin Ma Xiaolan Wang Mei Li Tao Yang Wenhan Huang Chi Zhang Mengyu Yao Yu Zhang Zhigang Xu Shaokang Guan Yufeng Zheng 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,4:1

17The existence of a nonclassical TCA cycle in the nucleus that wires the metabolic-epigenetic circuitry显示文摘The scope and variety of the metabolic intermediates from the mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle that are engaged in epigenetic regulation of the chromatin function in the nucleus raise an outstanding question about how timely and precise supply/consumption of these metabolites is achieved in the nucleus.We report here the identification of a nonclassical TCA cycle in the nucleus(nTCA cycle).We found that all the TCA cycle-associated enzymes including citrate synthase(CS),aconitase 2(ACO2),isocitrate dehydrogenase 3(IDH3),oxoglutarate dehydrogenase(OGDH),succinyl-CoA synthetase(SCS),fumarate hydratase(FH),and malate dehydrogenase 2(MDH2),except for succinate dehydrogenase(SDH),a component of electron transport chain for generating ATP,exist in the nucleus.We showed that these nuclear enzymes catalyze an incomplete TCA cycle similar to that found in cyanobacteria.We propose that the nTCA cycle is implemented mainly to generate/consume metabolic intermediates,not for energy production.We demonstrated that the nTCA cycle is intrinsically linked to chromatin dynamics and transcription regulation.Together,our study uncovers the existence of a nonclassical TCA cycle in the nucleus that links the metabolic pathway to epigenetic regulation.Xujun Liu Wenzhe Si Lin He Jianguo Yang Yani Peng Jie Ren Xiaoping Liu Tong Jin Huajing Yu Zihan Zhang Xiao Cheng Wenting Zhang Lu Xia Yunchao Huang Yue Wang Shumeng Liu Lin Shan Yu Zhang Xiaohan Yang Haixia Li Jing Liang Luyang Sun Yongfeng Shang 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,12:0
