1Apoptosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases显示文摘The number of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases(NAFLD) including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH), has been increasing. NASH causes cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and is one of the most serious health problems in the world. The mechanism through which NASH progresses is still largely unknown. Activation of caspases, Bcl-2 family proteins, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase-induced hepatocyte apoptosis plays a role in the activation of NAFLD/NASH. Apoptotic hepatocytes stimulate immune cells and hepatic stellate cells toward the progression of fibrosis in the liver through the production of inflammasomes and cytokines. Abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism as well as microbiota accelerate these processes. The production of reactive oxygen species, oxidative stress, and endoplasmic reticulum stress is also involved. Cell death, including apoptosis, seems very important in the progression of NAFLD and NASH. Recently, inhibitors of apoptosis have been developed as drugs for the treatment of NASH and may prevent cirrhosis and HCC. Increased hepatocyte apoptosis may distinguish NASH from NAFLD, and the improvement of apoptosis could play a role in controlling the development of NASH. In this review, the association between apoptosis and NAFLD/NASH are discussed. 2Fabrication of morphology-controlled TiO_2 photocatalyst nanoparticles and improvement of photocatalytic activities by modification of Fe compounds显示文摘Our previous studies suggested that redox reaction proceeded separately on specific exposed crystal faces of Ti O2 nanoparticles. Site-selective deposition of metal or metal oxide on Ti O2 specific exposed crystal faces successfully proceeded using the unique reactivity properties on the surface of Ti O2 nanoparticles under photoexcitation. A remarkable improvement of photocatalytic activity of shapecontrolled brookite and rutile Ti O2 nanorods with modification of Fe3compounds was observed under visible light.Crystal face-selective metal compound modification on exposed crystal faces of Ti O2 nanorods with brookite and rutile phases was successfully prepared. Brookite and rutile Ti O2 nanorods prepared by site-selective modification with metal compounds should be ideal visible-light responsive Ti O2 photocatalysts because of the remarkable suppression of back electron transfer from Ti O2 to oxidized metal compounds on the surface of the Ti O2 nanorod with a brookite or rutile phase. In this paper, the development of exposed crystal face-controlled Ti O2 nanorods with rutile and brookite phases was described. The obtained rutile and brookite Ti O2 nanorod, showing remarkably high activity for degradation of organic compounds compared with the photocatalytic activities of anatase fine particles(ST-01), is one of the most active commercially available photocatalysts for environmental cleanup in Japan. The technology of visiblelight responsive treatment for morphology-controlled rutile and brookite Ti O2 nanorods by crystal face-selective modification of Fe3compounds was also discussed in this paper. 3Surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma with severe intratumoral arterioportal shunt显示文摘We report a case of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that caused a severe arterioportal shunt (APS). A 49-year-old man was admitted to hospital due to esophagogastric variceal hemorrhage and HCC, and underwent endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) and endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS). He was then referred to our hospital. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a lowdensity lesion in the posterior segment of the liver and an intratumoral APS, which caused portal hypertension. Although the patient underwent EVL, EIS, Hassab’s operation, and transcatheter arterial embolization for APS, he vomited blood due to rupture of esophagogastric varices. Right hepatectomy was performed for the treatment of HCC and APS, although the indocyanine green retention value at 15 min after intravenous injection was poor (30%). The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful. 4Prognostic value of postoperative complication for early recurrence after curative resection of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Background: Postoperative complications may adversely affect oncological outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of postoperative complications on early-phase recurrence after curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods: We included 145 HCC patients who underwent initial and curative resection between January2004 and December 2013. Postoperative complications of grade III or higher based on Clavien–Dindo classification were defined as clinically relevant postoperative complications. Recurrence within two years after hepatectomy was defined as early-phase recurrence.Results: Thirty-eight patients(26%) developed postoperative complications. The only predictive factor for postoperative complication was longer operative duration(P = 0.037). The disease-specific survival rate of patients with complication was lower than that of patients without complications(P = 0.015). Earlyphase recurrence was observed in 20/38(53%) patients who suffered postoperative complications and36/107(34%) patients with no complications, which was statistically significant(P = 0.039). Multivariate analysis identified four factors contributing to early-phase recurrence: high serum AFP level(P = 0.042),multiple tumors(P < 0.001), poor differentiation(P = 0.036) and presence of postoperative complication(P = 0.039).Conclusions: Postoperative complication is an independent prognostic factor for early-phase recurrence after curative resection of HCC. 5Post-operative albumin-bilirubin grade predicts long-term outcomes among Child–Pugh grade A patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after curative resection显示文摘Background: Although Child–Pugh grade A patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) are candidates for curative resection, some may have a poor prognosis. The albumin-bilirubin(ALBI) grade, a measure of liver function based on albumin and bilirubin, has the potential to detect Child–Pugh grade A HCC patients with poor prognosis. Because components of the ALBI grade can be measured easily even after surgery, we explored the predictive values of ALBI in patient prognosis after HCC resection. Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, we included 136 HCC patients who underwent curative resection between January 2004 and December 2013 at our hospital. ALBI grade was calculated from laboratory data recorded the day before surgery and at post-operative day 5. Results: Pre-and post-operative ALBI grade predicted patients' long-term outcomes( P = 0.020 and P < 0.001, respectively, for overall survival, and P = 0.012 and P = 0.015, respectively, for recurrence-free survival). Post-operative ALBI grade was associated with patients' surgical factors of repeated hepatic resection( P = 0.012), intra-operative bleeding( P = 0.006), and surgery duration( P = 0.033). Furthermore, post-operative ALBI grade, rather than pre-operative ALBI grade, was an independent predictive factor of long-term outcome of Child–Pugh grade A patients with HCC. 6Preparation of luminescent polystyrene microspheres via surface-modified route with rare earth(Eu^(3+) and Tb^(3+))complexes linked to 2,2'-bipyridine显示文摘Luminescent polystyrene microspheres were easily fabricated from poly(styrene-co-methacrylic acid)and aqueous RE(III) chloride solution(RE=Eu, Tb) in the presence of 2,20-bipyridine as second ligand. The negative charges of carboxyl groups on the surface of microspheres coordinated with rare earth ions at first, such as complexes covalently linked to 2,20-bipyridine, resulting in strong photoluminescence. Various methods, including transmission electron microscope(TEM), scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), and fluorescence spectrophotometer, were used to characterize the resultant polystyrene composite microspheres. 8Synthesis of anatase TiO2 with exposed {001} and {101} facets and photocatalytic activity显示文摘Anatase titanium(IV) oxide (TiO2) particles with exposed {()01) and {101) facets were prepared by hydrothermal treatment of amorphous TiO2 with H2O2- NH3 solution. Crystal phase, shape, and size of TiO2 particles are found to be greatly dependent on the ratio of H2O2-NH3 solution. The prepared TiOo particles with specific exposed crystal faces show higher photocatalytic activity for acetaldehyde decomposition than commercial spherical TiO^ particles. 9Combined preoperative platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and serum carbohydrate antigen 19–9 level as a prognostic factor in patients with resected pancreatic cancer显示文摘Background: Carbohydrate antigen 19–9(CA19-9) is the most frequently used tumor marker and serves as a prognostic indicator in patients with pancreatic cancer(PC). The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR) is thought to be an inflammation-related serum marker. An elevated PLR represents increased inflammatory status and is associated with poor prognosis in patients with various cancers including PC. Methods: This study involved 103 patients with a histopathological diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who underwent pancreatectomy. The patients were assessed to determine the prognostic significance of the combination of the PLR and CA19-9 level. Results: Based on the receiver operating characteristic analysis results, the patients were divided into PLR H igh(PLR ≥ 129.1) andPLRLow(PLR < 129.1) groups and into CA19-9High(CA19-9 ≥ 74.0 U/mL) and CA19-9Low(CA19-9 < 74.0 U/mL) groups. The cumulative 5-year overall survival(OS) and disease-specific survival(DSS) rates significantly differed by both the PLR(PLR H igh group: 19.5% and 22.9%;PLRLow group: 39.1% and 45.9%) and CA19-9(CA19-9 H igh group: 19.1% and 25.6%;CA19-9Low group: 41.0% and 41.0%). We then divided the patients into Groups A(PLR L ow/CA19-9Low), B(PLR Low/CA19-9High or PLRHigh/CA19-9Low), and C(PLR H igh/CA19-9High). The cumulative 5-year OS rates in Groups A, B, and C were 44.0%, 31.9%, and 11.9%, respectively( P = 0.002). The cumulative 5-year DSS rates in Groups A, B, and C were 47.7%, 36.4%, and 16.8%, respectively( P = 0.002). Multivariate analysis revealed that the combination of the PLR and CA19-9 was an independent prognostic factor in patients with resected PC. 10Histopathology of type C liver disease for determining hepatocellular carcinoma risk factors显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the histopathological findings of type C liver disease to determine risk factors for development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:We studied 232 patients,who underwent liver biopsy for type C chronic liver disease between 1992 and 2009,with sustained virological response(SVR)after interferon therapy.The patients were divided into two groups according to the F stage 0+1+2 group(n = 182)and F3+4 group(n = 50).We prospectively observed and compared the incidence of HCC of the patients with SVR in the F0+1+2 and F3+4 groups.Then,the background factors and liver histopathological findings,including the degree of fibrosis,F stage,inflammation,necrosis,bile duct obstruction,fat deposition,and degree of irregular regeneration(IR)of hepatocytes,were correlated with the risk of developing HCC.RESULTS:HCC developed in three of 182(1.6%)patients in the F0+1+2 group,and four of 50(8.0%)in the F3+4 group.The cumulative incidence of HCC in the former group was found to be significantly lower than in the F3+4 group(log rank test P = 0.0224).The presence of atypical hepatocytes among IR of hepatocytes in the F3+4 group resulted in a higher cumulative incidence of HCC,and was significantly correlated with risk of HCC development(RR = 20.748,95%CI:1.335-322.5,P = 0.0303).CONCLUSION:Atypical hepatocytes among the histopathological findings of type C liver disease may be an important risk factor for HCC development along with progression of liver fibrosis.Hiroshi Matsumura Kazushige Nirei Hitomi Nakamura Teruhisa Higuchi Yasuo Arakawa Masahiro Ogawa Naohide Tanaka Mitsuhiko Moriyama 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,30:3

16Growth of Sr_2CuO_(3+δ) superconductor single crystals at high pressure显示文摘We have successfully synthesized Sr 2 CuO3+δ single crystals under high pressure and high temperature for the first time. The structure analysis show that this material crystallizes into tetragonal structure isostructural La 2 CuO4 with single CuO 2 plane. 20Carrier Dynamics and Surface Reaction Boosted by Polymer-based Single-atom Photocatalysts显示文摘Carrier dynamics and surface reaction are two critical processes for determining the performance of photocatalytic reaction.Highly designable polymer-based photocatalysts have shown promising protectives in energetic and environmental applications.In this prospective,we first distinguished the differences of physiochemical properties between polymer-based semiconductors and traditional inorganic semiconductors.Then,the effects of single-atom sites on the charge dynamics and reaction kinetics of polymer-based photocatalysts are further elaborated.Time(excitation)-space(wavefunction)population analysis,which can provide relevant information to clarify the structure-excitation relationships after introducing the single atom sites was also reviewed.In the future,with the further development of artificial intelligence,the establishment of an energy function with a regression accuracy close to or reaching the level of density functional theory is highly desired to infer the energetic diagram of the photocatalytic systems at the excited states.Furthermore,coordination structures,interaction with inorganic semiconductors,photocatalytic stability and solvent effects should also be carefully considered in the future studies of polymer-based photocatalyst.TENG Zhenyuan YANG Hongbin ZHANG Qitao OHNO Teruhisa 2022Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2022,38,5:1
