2COX-2 polymorphisms-765G→C and-1195A→G and colorectal cancer risk显示文摘AIM:To determine the possible modulating effect of the COX-2 polymorphisms,-765G→C and-1195A→G, on the risk of colorectal cancer(CRC)in a Dutch population. METHODS:This case-control study includes 326 patients with CRC and 369 age-and gender-matched controls.Genotypes of the COX-2 polymorphisms -765G→C and-1195A→G were determined by polymerase chain reaction-based restriction fragment length polymorphism.COX-2 genotypes and haplotypes were analyzed and odds ratios with 95%confi- dence intervals were estimated by logistic regression. RESULTS:The-765GG genotype was associated with an increased risk of developing CRC(OR,1.45; 95%CI,1.03-2.04).No significant difference was observed in the genotype distribution of the-1195A→ G polymorphism between patients and controls.The GG/AC haplotype was present significantly less often in patients than in controls(OR 0.44;95%CI,0.22-0.85). When the AC,AG and GG haplotypes were investigated separately,the AC haplotype showed a tendency to be less frequent in patients than in controls(OR(AG/AC)0.78; 95%CI,0.57-1.06). 3High-density SNP-based genetic maps for the parents of an outcrossed and a selfed tetraploid garden rose cross, inferred from admixed progeny using the 68k rose SNP array显示文摘Dense genetic maps create a base for QTL analysis of important traits and future implementation of marker-assisted breeding.In tetraploid rose,the existing linkage maps include<300 markers to cover 28 linkage groups(4 homologous sets of 7 chromosomes).Here we used the 68k WagRhSNP Axiom single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)array for rose,in combination with SNP dosage calling at the tetraploid level,to genotype offspring from the garden rose cultivar‘Red New Dawn’.The offspring proved to be not from a single bi-parental cross.In rose breeding,crosses with unintended parents occur regularly.We developed a strategy to separate progeny into putative populations,even while one of the parents was unknown,using principle component analysis on pairwise genetic distances based on sets of selected SNP markers that were homozygous,and therefore uninformative for one parent.One of the inferred populations was consistent with self-fertilization of‘Red New Dawn’.Subsequently,linkage maps were generated for a bi-parental and a self-pollinated population with‘Red New Dawn’as the common maternal parent.The densest map,for the selfed parent,had 1929 SNP markers on 25 linkage groups,covering 1765.5 cM at an average marker distance of 0.9 cM.Synteny with the strawberry(Fragaria vesca)genome was extensive.Rose ICM1 corresponded to F.vesca pseudochromosome 7(Fv7),ICM4 to Fv4,ICM5 to Fv3,ICM6 to Fv2 and ICM7 to Fv5.Rose ICM2 corresponded to parts of F.vesca pseudochromosomes 1 and 6,whereas ICM3 is syntenic to the remainder of Fv6.Mirjana Vukosavljev Paul Arens Roeland E Voorrips Wendy P C van't Westende G D Esselink Peter M Bourke Peter Cox W Eric van de Weg Richard G F Visser Chris Maliepaard Marinus J M Smulders 2016Horticulture Research2016,3,1:6

5Impact of enclosure management on soil properties and microbial biomass in a restored semi-arid rangeland, Kenya显示文摘Rangeland degradation is a serious problem throughout sub-Saharan Africa and its restoration is a challenge for the management of arid and semi-arid areas. In Lake Baringo Basin of Kenya, communities and individual farmers are restoring indigenous vegetation inside enclosures in an effort to combat severe land degradation and address their livelihood problems. This study evaluated the impact of enclosure management on soil properties and microbial biomass, being key indicators of soil ecosystem health. Six reseeded communal enclosures using soil embankments as water-harvesting structures and strictly regulated access were selected, varying in age from 13 to 23 years. In six private enclosures, ranging from 3 to 17 years in age, individual farmers emulated the communal enclosure strategy and restored areas for their exclusive use. Significant decreases in bulk density, and increases in the soil organic carbon, total nitrogen and microbial biomass contents and stocks were found in the enclosures as compared with the degraded open rangeland. In the private enclosures, the impact of rehabilitation on the soil quality was variable, and soil quality was in general lower than that obtained under communal management. The significant increase of absolute stocks of carbon, nitrogen and microbial biomass compared to the degraded open rangeland indicates the potential for the restoration of soil quality through range rehabilitation. 8Effect of hepatic artery embolization on liver hypertrophy response in a rabbit liver VX2tumor model显示文摘BACKGROUND:Portal vein embolization not only induces hypertrophy of the non-embolized liver,but also enhances tumor growth.The latter could be prevented by embolizing the hepatic arteries supplying the tumor-bearing liver segments.This study aimed to determine the effects of transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE)on tumor volume and liver regeneration in a rabbit VX2 tumor model.METHODS:Twenty-three rabbits underwent subcapsular tumor implantation with a VX2 tumor.Two weeks after implantation,18 rabbits were used for TAE experiments,5were for sham controls.Tumor response and liver regeneration response of the embolized cranial and non-embolized caudal liver lobes were assessed by CT volumetry,liver to body weight index,and the amount of proliferating hepatocytes.RESULTS:All super-selective arterial tumor embolization procedures were performed successfully.Despite embolization,the tumor volume increased after an initial steady state.The tumor volume after embolization was smaller than that of the sham group,but this difference was not significant.Massive necrosis of the tumor,however,was seen after embolization,without damage of the surrounding liver parenchyma.There was a significant atrophy response of the tumor bearing cranial lobe after super-selective arterial embolization of the tumor with a concomitant hypertrophy response of the non-embolized,caudal lobe.This regeneration response was confirmed histologically by a significantly higher number of proliferating hepatocytes on the Ki-67 stained slides.CONCLUSIONS:Super-selective,bland arterial coil embolization causes massive necrosis of the tumor,despite increase of volume on CT scan.Atrophy of the tumor bearing liver lobe is seen after arterial embolization of the tumor with a concomitant hypertrophy response of the non-embolized lobe,despite absence of histological damage of the tumor-surrounding liver parenchyma.Krijn P van Lienden Lisette T Hoekstra Jessica D van Trigt Joris J Roelofs Otto M van Delden Thomas M van Gulik 2013Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2013,12,6:2
