1Bone marrow-derived monocyte infusion improves hepatic fibrosis by decreasing osteopontin,TGF-β1,IL-13 and oxidative stress显示文摘AIM To evaluate the therapeutic effects of bone marrowderived CD11b+CD14+ monocytes in a murine model of chronic liver damage. METHODS Chronic liver damage was induced in C57BL/6 mice by administration of carbon tetrachloride and ethanol for 6 mo. Bone marrow-derived monocytes isolated by immunomagnetic separation were used for therapy. The cell transplantation effects were evaluated by morphometry,biochemical assessment,immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS CD11b+CD14+ monocyte therapy significantly reduced liver fibrosis and increased hepatic glutathione levels. Levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines,including tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin(IL)-6 and IL-1β,in addition to pro-fibrotic factors,such as IL-13,transforming growth factor-β1 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 also decreased,while IL-10 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 increased in the monocytetreated group. CD11b+CD14+ monocyte transplantation caused significant changes in the hepatic expression of α-smooth muscle actin and osteopontin. 2Quantitative scintigraphic analysis of the apical seal in Thermafil/Topseal and Real Seal 1/Realseal filled root canals显示文摘AIM: To investigate the microleakage of two different root canal obturation systems, using the nuclear medicine approach.METHODS: Twenty-six single-rooted extracted teeth were selected. The crowns were sectioned to obtain 15-mm long root segments and each tooth was prepared using rotary Pro File instruments. The roots were divided into 2 experimental groups using Real Seal 1 and Real Seal sealer or Thermafil and Top Seal sealer as well as two control groups. On the 7th and the 28 th day the apices were submersed in a solution of 99 m TcPertechnetate during 3 h. The radioactivity was counted using a γ camera. RESULTS: The present study showed that none of the root canal-filled teeth was leakage free. The statistical analyses were made using Kruskal-Wallis and statistical significance was assessed using α = 0.05. Although apical leakage measured in counts per minute(cpm) in the Thermafil/Top Seal group was lower than in the Real Seal/Real Seal group(363 916 ± 180 707.7 cpm vs533 427 ± 414 020.6 cpm) on 7th day and(1 678 200 ± 567 217.4 cpm vs 2 240 518 ± 383 356.7 cpm) on 28 th day, there was no statistical difference(P > 0.05). In the Thermafil/Top Seal group and Real Seal 1/Real Seal group it was found that over time, the number of counts increased between 7 d and 28 d(363 916 ± 180 707.7 cpm vs 1 678 200 ± 567 217.4 cpm) and(533 427 ± 414 020.6 cpm vs 2 240 518 ± 383 356.7 cpm), respectively, with statistically significant differences(Thermafil/Top Seal group, P = 0.015 and Real Seal 1/Real Seal group, P = 0.036).CONCLUSION:Both carrier-based Realseal 1 and Thermafil techniques showed a similar sealing effect,but none of the materials was leakage free.Manuel Marques Ferreira Margarida Abrantes Eunice Virgínia Carrilho Maria Filomena Botelho 2013World Journal of Stomatology2013,2,2:2
3Development of hepatorenal syndrome in bile duct ligated rats显示文摘AIM: To evaluate in bile duct ligated rats whether there were progressive alterations of renal function without changes in histopathology. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were submitted to sham-surgery or bile duct ligation (BDL) and divided according to the post-procedure time (2, 4 and 6-wk). To determine renal function parameters, rats wereplaced in metabolic cages and, at the end of the experiment, blood and urine samples were obtained. Histology and hydroxyproline content were analyzed in liver and renal tissue. RESULTS: Rats with 2 wk of BDL increased free water clearance (P = 0.02), reduced urinary osmolality (P = 0.03) and serum creatinine (P = 0.01) in comparison to the sham group. In contrast, rats at 6 wk of BDL showed features of HRS, including signif icant increase in serum creatinine and reductions in creatinine clearance, water excretion and urinary sodium concentration. Rats with 4 wk of BDL exhibited an intermediate stage of renal dysfunction. Progressive hepatic f ibrosis according to post-procedure time was confirmed by histology. The increased levels of liver hydroxyproline contrasted with the absence of structural changes in the kidney, as assessed by histology and unchanged hydroxyproline content in renal tissue. CONCLUSION: Our data show that BDL produced progressive renal dysfunction without structural changes in the kidney, characterizing HRS. 15A review of patent literature on the regulation of glucose metabolism by six phytocompounds in the management of diabetes mellitus and its complications显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease,typified by hyperglycemia resulting from failures in complex multifactorial metabolic functions,that requires life-long medication.Prolonged uncontrolled hyperglycemia leads to micro-and macro-vascular complications.Although antidiabetic drugs are prescribed as the first-line treatment,many of them lose efficacy over time or have severe side effects.There is a lack of in-depth study on the patents filed concerning the use of natural compounds to manage diabetes.Thus,this patent analysis provides a comprehensive report on the antidiabetic therapeutic activity of 6 phytocompounds when taken alone or in combinations.Four patent databases were searched,and 17,649 patents filed between 2001 and 2021 were retrieved.0f these,139 patents for antidiabetic therapeutic aids that included berberine,curcumin,gingerol,gymnemic acid,gymnemagenin and mangiferin were analyzed.The results showed that these compounds alone or in combinations,targeting acetylcoenzyme A carboxylase 2,serine/threonine protein kinase,α-amylase,α-glucosidase,lipooxygenase,phosphorylase,peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ(PPAR-γ),protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B,PPARγco-activator-1α,phosphoinositide 3-kinase and protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 3C,could regulate glucose metabolism which are validated by pharmacological rationale.Synergism,or combination therapy,including different phytocompounds and plant extracts,has been studied extensively and found effective,whereas the efficacy of commercial drugs in combination with phytocompounds has not been studied in detail.Curcumin,gymnemic acid and mangiferin were found to be effective against diabetes-related complications.Anusree DasNandy Rajashri Virge Harsha V.Hegde Debprasad Chattopadhyay 2023Journal of Integrative Medicine2023,21,3:0
16Blood flow restriction during the resting periods of high-intensity resistance training does not alter performance but decreases MIR-1 and MIR-133A levels in human skeletal muscle显示文摘Blood flow restriction(BFR)during exercise bouts has been used to induce hypertrophy of skeletal muscle,even with low loads.However,the effects of BFR during the rest periods between sets are not known.We have tested the hypothesis that BFR during rest periods between sets of high-intensity resistance training would enhance performance.Twenty-two young adult male university students were recruited for the current study,with n=11 assigned to BFR and n=11 to a control group.The results revealed that four weeks training at 70%of 1 RM,five sets and 10 repetitions,three times a week with and without BFR,resulted in similar progress in maximal strength and in the number of maximal repetitions.The miR-1 and miR-133a decreased significantly in the vastus lateralis muscle of BFR group compared to the group without BFR,while no significant differences in the levels of miR133b,miR206,miR486,and miR499 were found between groups.In conclusion,it seems that BFR restrictions during rest periods of high-intensity resistance training,do not provide benefit for enhanced performance after a four-week training program.However,BFR-induced downregulation of miR-1 and miR-133a might cause different adaptive responses of skeletal muscle to high intensity resistance training.Ferenc Torma Peter Bakonyi Zsolt Regdon Zoltan Gombos Matyas Jokai Gergely Babszki Marcell Fridvalszki Laszl Virg Hisashi Naito SyedRehan Iftikhar Bukhari Zsolt Radak 2021Sports Medicine and Health Science2021,3,1:0
17The first high spatial resolution multi-scale daily SPI and SPEI raster dataset for drought monitoring and evaluating over China from 1979 to 2018显示文摘Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI)and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI),traditionally derived at a monthly scale,are widely used drought indices.To overcome temporalresolution limitations,we have previously developed and published a well-validated daily SPI/SPEI in situ dataset.Although having a high temporal resolution,this in situ dataset presents low spatial resolution due to the scarcity of stations.Therefore,based on the China Meteorological Forcing Dataset,which is composed of data from more than 1,000 ground-based observation sites and multiple remote sensing grid meteorological dataset,we present the first high spatiotemporal-resolution daily SPI/SPEI raster datasets over China.It spans from 1979 to 2018,with a spatial resolution of 0.1°×0.1°,a temporal resolution of 1-day,and the timescales of 30-,90-,and 360-days.Results show that the spatial distributions of drought event characteristics detected by the daily SPI/SPEI are consistent with the monthly SPI/SPEI.The correlation between the daily value of the 12-month scale and the monthly value of SPI/SPEI is the strongest,with linear correlation,Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient,and normalized root mean square error of 0.98,0.97,and 0.04,respectively.The daily SPI/SPEI is shown to be more sensitive to flash drought than the monthly SPI/SPEI.Our improved SPI/SPEI shows high accuracy and credibility,presenting enhanced results when compared to the monthly SPI/SPEI.The total data volume is up to 150 GB,compressed to 91 GB in Network Common Data Form(NetCDF).It can be available from Figshare(https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.c.5823533)and ScienceDB(https://doi.org/10.57760/sciencedb.j00076.00103).Rongrong Zhang Virgílio A.Bento Junyu Qi Feng Xu Jianjun Wu Jianxiu Qiu Jianwei Li Wei Shui Qianfeng Wang 2023Big Earth Data2023,7,3:0
18Ionic liquid-loaded microcapsules doped into dental resin infiltrants显示文摘Resin infiltrants have been effectively applied in dentistry to manage non-cavitated carious lesions in proximal dental surfaces.However,the common formulations are composed of inert methacrylate monomers.In this study,we developed a novel resin infiltrant with microcapsules loaded with an ionic liquid(MC-IL),and analyzed the physical properties and cytotoxicity of the dental resin.First,the ionic liquid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(BMI.NTf2)was synthesized.BMI.NTf2 has previously shown antibacterial activity in a dental resin.Then,MC-IL were synthesized by the deposition of a preformed polymer.The MC-IL were analyzed for particle size and de-agglomeration effect via laser diffraction analysis and shape via scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The infiltrants were formulated,and the MC-IL were incorporated at 2.5%,5%,and 10 wt%.A group without MC-IL was used as a control.The infiltrants were evaluated for ultimate tensile strength(UTS),contact angle,surface free energy(SFE),and cytotoxicity.The MC-IL showed a mean particle size of 1.64(±0.08)μm,shriveled aspect,and a de-agglomeration profile suggestive of nanoparticles’presence in the synthesized powder.There were no differences in UTS among groups(p>0.05).The incorporation of 10 wt%of MC-IL increased the contact angle(p<0.05),while the addition from 5 wt%reduced the SFE in comparison to the control group(p<0.05).The human cell viability was above 90%for all groups(p>0.05).The incorporation of microcapsules as a drug-delivery system for ionic liquids may be a promising strategy to improve dental restorative materials.Marla Cuppini Isadora Martini Garcia Virgínia Serra de Souza Kelly Cristine Zatta Fernanda Visioli Vicente Castelo Branco Leitune Sílvia Stanisçuazki Guterres Jackson Damiani Scholten Fabrício Mezzomo Collares 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,9:0
19Non-traditional biomarkers of eating disorder symptoms amongfemale college students显示文摘Background:Eating disorders(ED)are often diagnosed at an advanced stage because traditional symptoms related to unhealthy eating habits are poorly recognized.ED may be also associated with non-traditional and objective biomarkers,which could prove an important screening tool to support health care professionals in diagnosing,treating,and ultimately preventing ED.Aim:To investigate the association between non-traditional physiological ED biomarkers and symptoms of ED among female college students.Methods:This study included 113 female college students,aged 18 to 23 years,enrolled in their first semester as a Bachelor of Health Sciences undergrad at public universities in the urban zone of Recife,Brazil.Symptoms of ED were measured by self-report questionnaires.Circulating levels of IL-6,IL-10,leptin,insulin,ghrelin,PYY and adiponectin were assessed using commercial immunoassays.Results:Students with symptoms of an ED exhibited higher values of IL-6(p=0.03)and leptin(p<0.001)compared to those without symptoms.A positive correlation was found between leptin levels and bulimia nervosa(r=0.42;p=0.00),between leptin levels and binge eating(r=0.38;p=0.00),and between IL-6 concentrations and binge eating(r=0.25;p=0.04).Multiple linear regression analysis with anorexia nervosa,bulimia nervosa and binge eating as dependent variables showed that IL-6 and leptin best explained ED symptoms,even when adjusted for body mass index(BMI).Conclusions:These findings suggest that peripheral peptides,namely leptin and IL-6,are associated with symptoms of ED in female college students.Future studies are needed to determine if there is a causal relationship between these biomarkers and the onset of ED.Relevance for patients:If future longitudinal studies demonstrate causality between the biomarkers assessed here and ED symptoms,these serum makers could be used as screening tool for inappropriate eating behavior.This may in turn improve the early diagnosis,treatment,and,ultimately,the prognosis of patients with ED.Mara Cristina Lofrano-Prado Wagner Luiz do Prado Mauro Virgílio Gomes de Barros Lila Missae Oyama Michelle Cardel Sandra Lopes-de-Souza 2016Journal of Clinical & Translational Research2016,2,4:0
20Evaluation of Propargyl Alcohol as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Duplex Stainless Steel in Hydrochloric Acid显示文摘ASTM A182 F51 duplex stainless steel with a 50:50 ratio of austenite to ferrite microstructure is a material used in mechanical engineering.Its uses include the manufacturing of equipment and components subject to acidification or acid stimulation for oil and gas industries.During acid stimulation or acidification,hydrochloric acid(HCl)solution with concentrations ranging from 5%to 28%(by volume)is injected into the limestone(CaCO3)and dolomite(CaCO3·MgCO3)reservoir rock to restore permeability and consequently increase oil well productivity.Therefore,it is important to use a corrosion inhibitor,such as propargyl alcohol,to prevent or inhibit the aggressive attack of HCl on duplex stainless steel.The present study evaluates the corrosion resistance of ASTM A182 F51 stainless steel using gravimetric(mass loss)and electrochemical(polarization)tests.Studies were completed with and without the addition of 500 and 1,000 mg/L propargyl alcohol in HCl solutions with concentrations of 10%and 15%(by volume)at temperatures of 25,40 and 55°C.The good protection by propargyl alcohol of duplex steel immersed in HCl is observed.Fernando Benedicto Mainier Virgílio P.dos Reis Edilson Ferreira de Barros Brígida B.de Almeida 2020Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture2020,14,7:0
