| 2 | Carbon budgets of three temperate forest ecosystems in Dongling Mt.,Beijing,China显示文摘There is a general agreement that forest ecosystems in the Northern Hemisphere function as signifi-cant sinks for atmospheric CO2; however, their magnitude and distribution remain large uncertainties. In this paper, we report the carbon (C) stock and its change of vegetation, forest floor detritus, and mineral soil, annual net biomass increment and litterfall production, and respiration of vegetation and soils between 1992 to 1994, for three temperate forest ecosystems, birch (Betula platyphylla) forest, oak (Quercus liaotungensis) forest and pine (Pinus tabulaeformis) plantation in Mt. Dongling, Beijing, China. We then evaluate the C budgets of these forest ecosystems. Our results indicated that total C density (organic C per hectare) of these forests ranged from 250 to 300 t C ha-1, of which 35―54 t C ha-1 from vegetation biomass C and 209―244 t C ha-1 from soil organic C (1 m depth, including forest floor detritus). Biomass C of all three forests showed a net increase, with 1.33―3.55 t C ha-1 a-1 during the study period. Litterfall production, vegetation autotrophic respiration, and soil heterotrophic respira-tion were estimated at 1.63―2.34, 2.19―6.93, and 1.81―3.49 t C ha-1 a-1, respectively. Ecosystem gross primary production fluctuated between 5.39 and 12.82 t C ha-1 a-1, about half of which (46%―59%, 3.20―5.89 t C ha-1 a-1) was converted to net primary production. | 6 | Isolation and identification of novel casein-derived bioactive peptides and potential functions in fermented casein with Lactobacillus helveticus显示文摘The present study here establishes a complete and effective method for isolating,purifying and identifying extracellular and intracellular peptides,and also describes the characters and bioactivities of peptides from fermented casein with Lactobacillus helveticus.Intracellular peptides are much larger in quantity and more complex in composition than extracellular peptides,between which the correlation reveals proteolytic and metabolic mechanisms.In addition,totally 241 different peptide sequences were identified by Nano LC–MS/MS from casein(212)and Lactobacillus helveticus proteins(29).These casein-derived peptides mostly originated from-casein,followed byS1-casein,-casein,andS2-casein,and came from extracell(69)and intracell(143),in which common peptides have a total of 27.Forty-four of the identified peptides were previously described as bioactive,including angiotensinconverting enzyme(ACE)-inhibitory,antioxidant,immunomodulating,antimicrobial,DPP-IV inhibitory,antiamnesic and anticancer effects and so on.Thirteen peptides with the potential of some biological activities are obtained,which were described in previous studies.A total of 47 novel peptides of 5 to 26 amino acids that were not disclosed were obtained.The new sources of natural bioactive peptides may have the very high application value as potential new peptide drugs for treatment human diseases.The product peptide DELQDKIHPF found in both extracell and intracell was quantitatively analyzed using the MRM mode of UPLC-U3Q,23.1 and 9.76 ng/mL,respectively.The quantitative analysis of the potential bioactive peptide may also advance the production of peptide products in the future. | Mengzhu Fan Tingting Guo Wanru Li Jing Chen Fushuo Li Chao Wang Yi Shi David Xi-an Li Shaohui Zhang | 2019 | Food Science and Human Wellness2019,8,2: | 5 |

| 9 | Isolation and Characteristics of a Microbial Consortium for Effectively Degrading Phenanthrene显示文摘A microbial consortium (named W4) capable of aerobic biodegradation of solid phenanthrene as the sole source of carbon and energy was isolated by selective enrichment from petroleum-contaminated soil in the Henan oilfield, China. The strains of the consortium were identified as Sphingomonas cloacae, Rhizobium sp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Achromobacter xylosoxidans respectively by means of genetic methods. The major metabolites of phenanthrene were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The biodegradation percentage of solid phenanthrene at 200 mg/L in liquid medium after 7 days of growth was greater than 99%. The degradation of phenanthrene was compared between individual predominant strains and the microbial consortium in different treatment processes. The microbial consortium showed a significant improvement of phenanthrene degradation rates in either static or shaking culture. The degradation percentage of phenanthrene by the consortium W4 decreased to some degree when C16 coexisted, however it was hardly affected by C30. Furthermore, the ability of consortium W4 to remediate oil sludge from the Dagang oil refinery was studied by composting; and it was found that the consortium W4 could obviously remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and paraffinic hydrocarbons. | 10 | Comparative transcriptome study provides insights into acquisition of embryogenic ability in upland cotton during somatic embryogenesis显示文摘Background: The conversion from non-embryogenic callus(NEC) to embryogenic callus(EC) is the key bottleneck step in regeneration of upland cotton(Gossypium hirsutum), and hinders the transgenic breeding of upland cotton.To investigate molecular mechanisms underlying acquisition of embryogenic potential during this process, comparation analysis of transcriptome dynamics between two upland cotton cultivars with different somatic embryogenesis abilities was conducted.Results: Differentially expressed genes involved in the transformation from NEC to EC were detected in the two different cultivars. Principal component analysis based on DEGs showed that the NEC tissues of the two cultivars were highly heterogeneous, whereas the derived EC tissues were similar, which suggested the homogeneousness of EC between different lines. In the highly embryogenic cultivar CCRI 24, more of these genes were down-regulated, whereas,in the recalcitrant cultivar CCRI 12, more were up-regulated. Bioinformatics analysis on these DEGs showed that the vast majority of differentially expressed genes were enriched in metabolism and secondary metabolites biosynthesis pathways. Flavonoid biosynthesis and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathways were enriched in both cultivars,and the associated genes were down-regulated more in CCRI 24 than in CCRI 12. We deduced that vigorous secondary metabolism in CCRI 12 may hinder primary metabolism, resulting in tardiness of cell differentiation.Interestingly, genes involved in the plant hormone signal transduction pathway were enriched in the recalcitrant cultivar CCRI 12 but not in CCRI 24, suggesting more radical regulation of hormone signal transduction in the recalcitrant cultivar. Signal transduction rather than biosynthesis of plant hormones is more likely to be the determining factor triggering NEC to EC transition in recalcitrant cotton lines. Transcription factor encoding genes showed differential regulation between two cultivars.Conclusions: Our study provides valuable information about the molecular mechanism of conversion from NEC to EC in cotton and allows for identification of novel genes involved. | 11 | ATTACKS AND IMPROVEMENTS ON THE RFID AUTHENTICATION PROTOCOLS BASED ON MATRIX显示文摘Most of the Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) authentication protocols, proposed to preserve security and privacy, are analysed to show that they can not provide security against some passive or active attacks. In this paper, the security of two matrix-based protocols, proposed by Karthikeyan and Nesterenko (KN protocol) and Ramachandra et al. (RRS protocol) that conform to Electronic Product Code Class-1 Generation-2 (EPC Class-1 Gen-2) standard, are investigated. Using the linear relationship of multiplication of matrix and vector, we point out that both protocols can not provide scalability, and they are vulnerable to passive impersonation attack. In addition, both protocols are totally insecure if the adversary can compromise one tag to extract the secrets. A modified lightweight matrix-based authentication protocol is presented, which can resist mainly common attacks on an RFID authentication system including eavesdropping, relay attack, desynchronization attack, impersonation attack and tag tracking attack. | 12 | Numerical Simulation of Dam-Break Flooding of Cascade Reservoirs显示文摘Previous studies at home and abroad have mainly focused on single dam-break, and little attention has been paid so far to the dam-break of cascade reservoirs.Multi-source flooding, which can lead to three-dimensional turbulent phenomena and superposition effects, is the main difference between the dam-break of cascade and single reservoirs. Detailed descriptions of the coupled numerical simulation of multi-source flooding have little been reported, and the initial wet riverbed is rarely considered in current models. Therefore, in this paper, a method based on the three-dimensional k-ε turbulence model coupled with the volume-of-fluid method is proposed to simulate the dam-break flooding of cascade reservoirs. The upstream river, reservoir, and downstream river are connected by the internal boundary method, and the initial conditions,including river flow and reservoir water, are determined according to the results of the numerical simulation. Coupled numerical simulation of different dam-break flooding is then achieved.
