| 1 | Heterotopic pancreatic tissue in the gastric cardia: A case report and literature review显示文摘The heterotopic pancreas, which is usually described as an untypical presence of pancreatic tissue without any anatomic or vascular continuity with the pancreas, is relatively rare. Clinical manifestations may include bleeding, inflammation, pain and obstruction; however, in most cases it remains silent and is diagnosed during autopsy. Here, we report a case of ectopic pancreatic lesion located in the gastric cardia. The patient was a 73-year-old woman who had a history(over four months) of chronic epigastric pain accompanied by heartburn. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed inflammatory changes throughout the stomach and lower esophagus, as well as a flat polypoid mass with benign features located in the gastric cardia, approx. 10 mm below the 'Z' line, measuring approx. 7 mm in diameter. Endoscopic biopsy forceps were used to remove the lesion. Histological examination of the lesion revealed the presence of heterotopic pancreatic tissue in the gastric mucosa. On the basis of the presented case, we suggest that pancreatic ectopia should be a part of differential diagnosis, not only when dealing with submucosal gastric lesions, but also with those that are small, flat and/or untypically located. | Rafa? | 2 | Influence of stabilizers on the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles introduced into natural water显示文摘Physical, chemical and biochemical properties of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) depend to a great extent on their size, shape, size distribution, and stabilizers located on their surface. This study focused on two typical stabilizers, namely citrates(cit), low molecular ions protecting nanoparticles by electrostatic repulsion, and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), a hydrophilic, neutral, high molecular polymer protecting nanoparticles by steric stabilization. Natural bacterioplankton was collected from a eutrophic, downtown lake and exposed to five concentrations(0.1–5 mg/L) of AgNPs-PVP and AgNPs-cit. Responses were monitored after 1, 3, 5 and 7 days of exposure, by evaluating the survival rate of bacteria, their respiratory activity, and the general activity of extracellular esterases. A significantly better(greater) survival rate of bacterioplankton was observed in water with an addition of AgNPs-cit. The inhibition of extracellular esterases was observed only in samples containing AgNPs-PVP. The inhibitory effect increased proportionally to the concentration of AgNPs-PVP applied. | 3 | Secondary pancreatic involvement by a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma presenting as acute pancreatitis显示文摘Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. More than 50% of patients have some site of extra-nodal involvement at diagnosis, including the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow. However, a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma presenting as acute pancreatitis is rare. A 57-year-old female presented with abdominal pain and matted lymph nodes in her axilla. She was admitted with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed diffusely enlarged pancreas due to infiltrative neoplasm and peripancreatic lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the axillary mass revealed a large B-cell lymphoma. The patient was classified as stage Ⅳ, based on the Ann Arbor Classification, and as having a high-risk lymphoma, based on the International Prognostic Index. She was started on chemotherapy with CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone). Within a week after chemotherapy, the patient’s abdominal pain resolved. Follow-up CT scan of the abdomen revealed a marked decrease in the size of the pancreas and peripancreatic lymphadenopathy. A literature search revealed only seven cases of primary involvement of the pancreas in B-cell lymphoma presenting as acute pancreatitis. However, only one case of secondary pancreatic involvement by B-cell lymphoma presenting as acute pancreatitis has been published. Our case appears to be the second report of such a manifestation.
