1Helicity dependent directional surface plasmon polariton excitation using a metasurface with interfacial phase discontinuity显示文摘Surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs)have been widely exploited in various scientific communities,ranging from physics,chemistry to biology,due to the strong confinement of light to the metal surface.For many applications,it is important that the free space photon can be coupled to SPPs in a controllable manner.In this Letter,we apply the concept of interfacial phase discontinuity for circularly polarizations on a metasurface to the design of a novel type of polarization-dependent SPP unidirectional excitation at normal incidence.Selective unidirectional excitation of SPPs along opposite directions is experimentally demonstrated at optical frequencies by simply switching the helicity of the incident light.This approach,in conjunction with dynamic polarization modulation techniques,opens gateway towards integrated plasmonic circuits with electrically reconfigurable functionalities.Lingling Huang Xianzhong Chen Benfeng Bai Qiaofeng Tan Guofan Jin Thomas Zentgraf Shuang Zhang 2013Light(Science & Applications)2013,2,1:31
2Nonlinear optics in all-dielectric nanoantennas and metasurfaces:a review显示文摘Free from phase-matching constraints,plasmonic metasurfaces have contributed significantly to the control of optical nonlinearity and enhancement of nonlinear generation efficiency by engineering subwavelength meta-atoms.However,high dissipative losses and inevitable thermal heating limit their applicability in nonlinear nanophotonics.All-dielectric metasurfaces,supporting both electric and magnetic Mie-type resonances in their nanostructures,have appeared as a promising alternative to nonlinear plasmonics.High-index dielectric nanostructures,allowing additional magnetic resonances,can induce magnetic nonlinear effects,which,along with electric nonlinearities,increase the nonlinear conversion efficiency.In addition,low dissipative losses and high damage thresholds provide an extra degree of freedom for operating at high pump intensities,resulting in a considerable enhancement of the nonlinear processes.We discuss the current state of the art in the intensely developing area of all-dielectric nonlinear nanostructures and metasurfaces,including the role of Mie modes,Fano resonances,and anapole moments for harmonic generation,wave mixing,and ultrafast optical switching.Furthermore,we review the recent progress in the nonlinear phase and wavefront control using all-dielectric metasurfaces.We discuss techniques to realize alldielectric metasurfaces for multifunctional applications and generation of second-order nonlinear processes from complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor-compatible materials.Basudeb Sain Cedrik Meier Thomas Zentgraf 2019Advanced Photonics2019,1,2:17
3Multichannel vectorial holographic display and encryption显示文摘Since its invention,holography has emerged as a powerful tool to fully reconstruct the wavefronts of light including all the fundamental properties(amplitude,phase,polarization,wave vector,and frequency).For exploring the full capability for information storage/display and enhancing the encryption security of metasurface holograms,smart multiplexing techniques together with suitable metasurface designs are highly demanded.Here,we integrate multiple polarization manipulation channels for various spatial phase profiles into a single birefringent vectorial hologram by completely avoiding unwanted cross-talk.Multiple independent target phase profiles with quantified phase relations that can process significantly different information in different polarization states are realized within a single metasurface.For our metasurface holograms,we demonstrate high fidelity,large efficiency,broadband operation,and a total of twelve polarization channels.Such multichannel polarization multiplexing can be used for dynamic vectorial holographic display and can provide triple protection for optical security.The concept is appealing for applications of arbitrary spin to angular momentum conversion and various phase modulation/beam shaping elements.Ruizhe Zhao Basudeb Sain Qunshuo Wei Chengchun Tang Xiaowei Li Thomas Weiss Lingling Huang Yongtian Wang Thomas Zentgraf 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:15

5Metasurface interferometry toward quantum sensors显示文摘Optical metasurfaces open new avenues for the precise wavefront control of light for integrated quantum technology.Here,we demonstrate a hybrid integrated quantum photonic system that is capable of entangling and disentangling two-photon spin states at a dielectric metasurface.Via the interference of single-photon pairs at a nanostructured dielectric metasurface,a path-entangled two-photon NOON state with circular polarization that exhibits a quantum HOM interference visibility of 86±4% is generated.Furthermore,we demonstrate nonclassicality andphase sensitivity in a metasurface-based interferometer with a fringe visibility of 86.8±1.1%in the coincidence counts.This high visibility proves the metasurface-induced path entanglement inside the interferometer.Our findings provide a promising way to develop hybrid-integrated quantum technology operating in the high-dimensional mode space in various applications,such as imaging,sensing,and computing.Philip Georgi Marcello Massaro Kai-Hong Luo Basudeb Sain Nicola Montaut Harald Herrmann Thomas Weiss Guixin Li Christine Silberhorn Thomas Zentgraf 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:7
6All-dielectric silicon metalens for two-dimensional particle manipulation in optical tweezers显示文摘Dynamic control of compact chip-scale contactless manipulation of particles for bioscience applications remains a challenging endeavor,which is restrained by the balance between trapping efficiency and scalable apparatus.Metasurfaces offer the implementation of feasible optical tweezers on a planar platform for shaping the exerted optical force by a microscale-integrated device.Here we design and experimentally demonstrate a highly efficient silicon-based metalens for two-dimensional optical trapping in the near-infrared.Our metalens concept is based on the Pancharatnam–Berry phase,which enables the device for polarization-sensitive particle manipulation.Our optical trapping setup is capable of adjusting the position of both the metasurface lens and the particle chamber freely in three directions,which offers great freedom for optical trap adjustment and alignment.Two-dimensional(2D)particle manipulation is done with a relatively low-numerical-aperture metalens(NA(ML)=0.6).We experimentally demonstrate both 2D polarization-sensitive drag and drop manipulation of polystyrene particles suspended in water and transfer of angular orbital momentum to these particles with a single tailored beam.Our work may open new possibilities for lab-on-a-chip optical trapping for bioscience applications and microscale to nanoscale optical tweezers.TEANCHAI CHANTAKIT CHRISTIAN SCHLICKRIEDE BASUDEB SAIN FABIAN MEYER THOMAS WEISS NATTAPORN CHATTHAM AND THOMAS ZENTGRAF 2020Photonics Research2020,8,9:6
7Nucleoporin 88 expression in hepatitis B and C virus-related liver diseases显示文摘AIM: To investigate the expression of nucleoporin 88 (Nup88) in hepatitis B virus (HBV) and C virus (HCV)-related liver diseases. METHODS: We generated a new monoclonal Nup88 antibody to investigate the Nup88 protein expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 294 paraffin-embedded liver specimens comprising all stages of hepatocellular carcinogenesis. In addition, in cell culture experiments HBV-positive (HepG2.2.15 and HB611) and HBV-negative (HepG2) hepatoma cell lines were tested for the Nup88 expression by Western-immunoblotting to test data obtained by IHC.RESULTS: Specific Nup88 expression was found in chronic HCV hepatitis and unspecific chronic hepatitis, whereas no or very weak Nup88 expression was detected in normal liver. The Nup88 expression was markedly reduced or missing in mild chronic HBV infection and inversely correlated with HBcAg expression. Irrespective of the HBV- or HCV-status, increasing Nup88 expression was observed in cirrhosis and dysplastic nodules, and Nup88 was highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinomas. The intensity of Nup88 expression significantly increased during carcinogenesis (P < 0.0001) and correlated with dedifferentiation (P < 0.0001). Interestingly, Nup88 protein expression was significantly downregulated in HBV-positive HepG2.2.15 (P < 0.002) and HB611 (P < 0.001) cell lines as compared to HBV-negative HepG2 cells. CONCLUSION: Based on our immunohistochemical data, HBV and HCV are unlikely to influence the expression of Nup88 in cirrhotic and neoplastic liver tissue, but point to an interaction of HBV with the nuclear pore in chronic hepatitis. The expression of Nup88 in nonneoplastic liver tissue might reflect enhanced metabolic activity of the liver tissue. 8Senescence-specific Alteration of Hydrogen Peroxide Levels in Arabidopsis thaliana and Oilseed Rape Spring Variety Brassica napus L.cv.Mozart显示文摘In order to analyze the signaling function of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production in senescence in more detail, we manipulated intracellular H2O2 levels in Arabidopsis thaliala (L.) Heynh by using the hydrogen-peroxide-sensitive part of the Escherichia coli transcription regulator OxyR, which was directed to the cytoplasm as well as into the peroxisomes. H2O2 levels were lowered and senescence was delayed in both transgenic lines, but OxyR was found to be more effective in the cytoplasm. To transfer this knowledge to crop plants, we analyzed oilseed rape plants Brassica napus L. cv. Mozart for H2O2 and its scavenging enzymes catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) during leaf and plant development. H2O2 levels were found to increase during bolting and flowering time, but no increase could be observed in the very late stages of senescence. With increasing H2O2 levels, CAT and APX activities declined, so it is likely that similar mechanisms are used in oilseed rape and Arabidopsis to control H2O2 levels. 9Role of fast-setting cements in arthroplasty: A comparative analysis of characteristics显示文摘AIM To evaluate the behaviour of two fast-setting polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) cements CMW~? 2 G and Palacos~? fast R + G, as reference: Standard-setting Palacos~? R + G.METHODS The fast-setting cements CMW~? 2 G and Palacos~? fast R + G were studied, using standard-setting high viscosity Palacos~? R + G as a reference. Eleven units(of two batch numbers) of each cement were tested. All cements were mixed as specified by the manufacturer and analysed on the following parameters: Handling properties(mixing, waiting, working and hardening phase) according to Kuehn, Mechanical properties according to ISO 5833 and DIN 53435, Fatigue strength according to ISO 16402, Benzoyl Peroxide(BPO)-Content by titration, powder/liquid-ratio by weighing, antibiotic elution profile by High Performance Liquid Chromatography. All tests were done in an acclimatised laboratory with temperatures set at 23.5 ℃± 0.5 ℃ and a humidity of > 40%. RESULTS Palacos~? fast R + G showed slightly shorter handling properties(doughing, hardening phase, n = 12) than CMW~? 2 G, allowing to reduce operative time and to optimise cemented cup implantation. Data of the quasistatic properties of ISO 5833 and DIN 53435 of both cements tested was comparable. The ISO compressive strength(MPa) of Palacos~? fast R + G was significantly higher than CMW~? 2 G, resulting in ANOVA(P < 0.01) and two sample t-test(P < 0.01) at 0.05 level of significance(n = 20). Palacos~? fast R + G showed a higher fatigue strength of about 18% mean(ISO 16402) of 15.3 MPa instead of 13.0 MPa for CMW~? 2 G(n = 5 × 10~6 cycles). Palacos~? fast R + G and CMW~? 2 G differed only by 0.11%(n = 6) with the former having the higher content. The BPO-content of both cements were therefore comparable. CMW~? 2 G had a powder/liquid ratio of 2:1, Palacos~? fast R + G of 2.550:1 due to a higher powder content. Despite its higher gentamicin content, CMW~? 2 G showed a significantly lower antibiotic elution over time than Palacos~? fast R + G(n = 3).
