High Serum Resistin Level may be an Indicator of the Severity of Coronary Disease in Acute Coronary Syndrome显示文摘Objective To investigate the correlation between serum resistin level, cardiovascular risk factors and severity of coronary disease in acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods After evaluated by clinical history, electrocardiography, exercise tolerance tests, laboratory tests, and coronary angiography, 220 consecutive patients with suspected chest pain were divided into normal control group, stable angina pectoris (SAP) group, and ACS group, respectively. Baseline clinical characteristics, including height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, white blood cell count, high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, were compared among three groups. ELISA was used to detect serum resistin levels. Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis was used to assess association between resistin and other traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were used to define the relationship between serum resistin level and SAP or ACS. Results Serum resistin level in ACS group (1.18±0.48 μg/L) was significantly higher than that in normal control and SAP groups (0.49±0.40 and 0.66±0.40 μg/L; P<0.01). Only in ACS group, increased serum resistin level was significantly correlated with hsCRP (r=0.262, P=0.004) and white blood cell count (r=0.347, P=0.001). Furthermore, serum resistin levels showed a stepwise increase with the number increase of > 50% stenosed coronary vessels. Multinomial logistic regression test demonstrated that serum resistin was a strong risk factor for ACS (OR=29.132, 95%CI: 10.939-77.581, P<0.001). Conclusion These findings suggested the potential role of resistin in atherosclerosis and especially its involvement in ACS. | Hao Wang De-you Chen Jian Cao Zuo-yun He Bing-po Zhu Min Long | 2009 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2009,24,3: | 16
The interaction among gut microbes, the intestinal barrier and short chain fatty acids显示文摘The mammalian gut is inhabited by a massive and complicated microbial community, in which the hostachieves a stable symbiotic environment through the interdependence, coordination, reciprocal constraintsand participation in an immune response. The interaction between the host gut and themicrobiota is essential for maintaining and achieving the homeostasis of the organism. Consequently, guthomeostasis is pivotal in safeguarding the growth and development and potential productive performanceof the host. As metabolites of microorganisms, short chain fatty acids are not only the preferredenergy metabolic feedstock for host intestinal epithelial cells, but also exert vital effects on antioxidantsand the regulation of intestinal community homeostasis. Herein, we summarize the effects of intestinalmicroorganisms on the host gut and the mechanisms of action of short chain fatty acids on the fourintestinal barriers of the organism, which will shed light on the manipulation of the intestinal communityto achieve precise nutrition for specific individuals and provide a novel perspective for theprevention and treatment of diseases. | Jiayu Ma Xiangshu Piao Shad Mahfuz Shenfei Long Jian Wang | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,2: | 15
Current advances in orthodontic pain显示文摘Orthodontic pain is an inflammatory pain that is initiated by orthodontic force-induced vascular occlusion followed by a cascade of inflammatory responses, including vascular changes, the recruitment of inflammatory and immune cells, and the release of neurogenic and pro-inflammatory mediators. Ultimately, endogenous analgesic mechanisms check the inflammatory response and the sensation of pain subsides. The orthodontic pain signal, once received by periodontal sensory endings, reaches the sensory cortex for pain perception through three-order neurons: the trigeminal neuron at the trigeminal ganglia, the trigeminal nucleus caudalis at the medulla oblongata and the ventroposterior nucleus at the thalamus. Many brain areas participate in the emotion, cognition and memory of orthodontic pain, including the insular cortex, amygdala, hippocampus, locus coeruleus and hypothalamus. A built-in analgesic neural pathway—periaqueductal grey and dorsal raphe—has an important role in alleviating orthodontic pain. Currently, several treatment modalities have been applied for the relief of orthodontic pain, including pharmacological, mechanical and behavioural approaches and low-level laser therapy. The effectiveness of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs for pain relief has been validated, but its effects on tooth movement are controversial. However, more studies are needed to verify the effectiveness of other modalities. Furthermore, gene therapy is a novel, viable and promising modality for alleviating orthodontic pain in the future. | Hu Long Yan Wang Fan Jian Li-Na Liao Xin Yang Wen-Li Lai | 2016 | International Journal of Oral Science2016,8,2: | 11
Design and demonstration of a next-generation air quality attainment assessment system for PM_(2.5)and O_3显示文摘Due to the increasingly stringent standards, it is important to assess whether the proposed emission reduction will result in ambient concentrations that meet the standards. The Software for Model Attainment Test—Community Edition(SMAT-CE) is developed for demonstrating attainment of air quality standards of O3 and PM2.5. SMAT-CE improves computational efficiency and provides a number of advanced visualization and analytical functionalities on an integrated GIS platform. SMAT-CE incorporates historical measurements of air quality parameters and simulated air pollutant concentrations under a number of emission inventory scenarios to project the level of compliance to air quality standards in a targeted future year. An application case study of the software based on the U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standards(NAAQS) shows that SMAT-CE is capable of demonstrating the air quality attainment of annual PM2.5and 8-hour O3 for a proposed emission control policy. | Hua Wang Yun Zhu Carey Jang Che-Jen Lin Shuxiao Wang Joshua S.Fu Jian Gao Shuang Deng Junping Xie Dian Ding Xuezhen Qiu Shicheng Long | 2015 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2015,27,3: | 11
Guided chemotherapy based on patient-derived mini-xenograft models improves survival of gallbladder carcinoma patients显示文摘Background:Gallbladder carcinoma is highly aggressive and resistant to chemotherapy, with no consistent strategy to guide first line chemotherapy.However,patient-derived xenograft(PDX)model has been increasingly used as an effective model for in preclinical study of chemosensitivity.Methods:Mini-PDX model was established using freshly resected primary lesions from 12 patients with gallblad-der to examine the sensitivity with five of the most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents, namely gemcitabine,oxaliplatin,5-fluorouracil,nanoparticle albumin-bound(nab)-paclitaxel,and irinotecan. The results were used to guide the selection of chemotherapeutic agents for adjunctive treatment after the surgery.Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare overall survival(OS)and disease free survival(DFS)with 45 patients who received conventional chemo-therapy with gemcitabine and oxaliplatin. Results:Cell viability assays based on mini-PDX model revealed significant heterogeneities in drug responsiveness.Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients in the PDX-guided chemotherapy group had significantly longer median OS(18.6 months;95%CI 15.9-21.3 months)than patients in the conventional chemotherapy group(13.9 months;95%CI 11.7-16.2 months)(P=0.030;HR 3.18;95%CI 1.47-6.91).Patients in the PDX-guided chemotherapy group also had significantly longer median DFS(17.6 months;95%CI 14.5-20.6 months)than patients in the conventional chemotherapy group(12.0 months;95%CI 9.7-14.4 months)(P=0.014;HR 3.37;95%CI 1.67-6.79).Conclusion:The use of mini-PDX model to guide selection of chemotherapeutic regimens could improve the out-come in patients with gallbladder carcinoma. | Ming Zhan Rui-meng Yang Hui Wang Min He Wei Chen Sun-wang Xu Lin-hua Yang Qiang Liu Man-mei Long Jian Wang | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 11
Characteristics of secondary inorganic aerosol and sulfate species in size-fractionated aerosol particles in Shanghai显示文摘Sulfate, nitrate and ammonium(SNA) are the dominant species in secondary inorganic aerosol, and are considered an important factor in regional haze formation. Size-fractionated aerosol particles for a whole year were collected to study the size distribution of SNA as well as their chemical species in Shanghai. SNA mainly accumulated in fine particles and the highest average ratio of SNA to particulate matter(PM) was observed to be 47% in the fine size fraction(0.49–0.95 μm). Higher sulfur oxidation ratio and nitrogen oxidation ratio values were observed in PM of fine size less than 0.95 μm. Ion balance calculations indicated that more secondary sulfate and nitrate would be generated in PM of fine size(0.49–0.95 μm). Sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure(XANES) spectra of typical samples were analyzed. Results revealed that sulfur mainly existed as sulfate with a proportion(atomic basis) more than 73% in all size of PM and even higher at 90% in fine particles. Sulfate mainly existed as(NH4)2SO4 and gypsum in PM of Shanghai. Compared to non-haze days, a dramatic increase of(NH4)2SO4 content was found in fine particles on haze days only, which suggested the promoting impact of(NH4)2SO4 on haze formation. According to the result of air mass backward trajectory analysis, more(NH4)2SO4 would be generated during the periods of air mass stagnation. Based on XANES, analysis of sulfate species in size-fractionated aerosol particles can be an effective way to evaluate the impact of sulfate aerosols on regional haze formation. | Shilei Long Jianrong Zeng Yan Li Liangman Bao Lingling Cao Ke Liu Liang Xu Jun Lin Wei Liu Guanghua Wang Jian Yao Chenyan Ma Yidong Zhao | 2014 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,5: | 10
Expression of transferrin in hematoma brain tissue at different stages after intra cerebral hemorrhage in rats显示文摘Objective: To explore the expression of transferrin(Tf) and transferrin receptor(Tf R) in hematoma brain tissue at different stage after intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH) in rats. Methods: ICH rats model were established by collagenase method, and rats were sacrificed at 24 h, 72 h, 7 d and 14 d after operation. The levels of Tf and Tf R in different periods of rats were detected by immunohistochemical method, and correlation between two groups was analyzed. Results: Tf, Tf R-positive cells at each time after operation in observation group were significantly higher than that in control group(P<0.05). Tf, Tf R-positive cells began to increase from 24 h after the operation and reached the peak 72 h-7 d after surgery, but then gradually decreased. Tf was mainly expressed in nucleus and cytoplasm of neurons and glial cells around the hematoma, but Tf R was mainly expressed in nucleus and cytoplasm of neurons and choroid plexus endothelial cells. Correlation analysis showed that the Tf-positive cell was significantly positively correlated with Tf R-positive cell expression(r=0.447, P=0.022). Conclusions: Tf and Tf R were important transporters in brain tissue excessive load iron transport after ICH, and detecting the expression levels of the two indicators can provide a reference for prognosis treatmentin ICH. | Long Chen Xue-Gang Jin Jian-Fang Zhu Hui-Juan Li Yan-Ping Wang You-Xin Zhou Jian Wang Wen-Hua Wang | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,7: | 9
A case study of development and application of a streamlined control and response modeling system for PM_(2.5)attainment assessment in China显示文摘This article describes the development and application of a streamlined air control and response modeling system with a novel response surface modeling-linear coupled fitting method and a new module to provide streamlined model data for PM_(2.5) attainment assessment in China. This method is capable of significantly reducing the dimensions required to establish a response surface model,as well as capturing more realistic response of PM_(2.5) to emission changes with a limited number of model simulations. The newly developed module establishes a data link between the system and the Software for Model Attainment Test—Community Edition(SMAT-CE),and has the ability to rapidly provide model responses to emission control scenarios for SMAT-CE using a simple interface. The performance of this streamlined system is demonstrated through a case study of the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) in China. Our results show that this system is capable of reproducing the Community Multi-Scale Air Quality(CMAQ) model simulation results with maximum mean normalized error < 3.5%.It is also demonstrated that primary emissions make a major contribution to ambient levels of PM_(2.5) in January and August(e.g.,more than50%contributed by primary emissions in Shanghai),and Shanghai needs to have regional emission control both locally and in its neighboring provinces to meet China's annual PM_(2.5)National Ambient Air Quality Standard. The streamlined system provides a real-time control/response assessment to identify the contributions of major emission sources to ambient PM_(2.5)(and potentially O_3 as well) and streamline air quality data for SMAT-CE to perform attainment assessments. | Shicheng Long Yun Zhu Carey Jang Che-Jen Lin Shuxiao Wang Bin Zhao Jian Gao Shuang Deng Junping Xie Xuezhen Qiu | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3: | 9
On-chip silicon photonic signaling and processing: a review显示文摘The arrival of the big data era has driven the rapid development of high-speed optical signaling and processing, ranging from long-haul optical communication links to short-reach data centers and highperformance computing, and even micro-/nano-scale inter-chip and intra-chip optical interconnects.On-chip photonic signaling is essential for optical data transmission, especially for chip-scale optical interconnects, while on-chip photonic processing is a critical technology for optical data manipulation or processing, especially at the network nodes to facilitate ultracompact data management with low power consumption. In this paper, we review recent research progress in on-chip photonic signaling and processing on silicon photonics platforms. Firstly, basic key devices (lasers, modulators, detectors)are introduced. Secondly, for on-chip photonic signaling, we present recent works on on-chip data transmission of advanced multi-level modulation signals using various silicon photonic integrated devices(microring, slot waveguide, hybrid plasmonic waveguide, subwavelength grating slot waveguide).Thirdly, for on-chip photonic processing, we summarize recent works on on-chip data processing of advanced multi-level modulation signals exploiting linear and nonlinear effects in different kinds of silicon photonic integrated devices (strip waveguide, directional coupler, 2D grating coupler, microring,silicon-organic hybrid slot waveguide). Various photonic processing functions are demonstrated, such as photonic switch, filtering, polarization/wavelength/mode (de)multiplexing, wavelength conversion, signal regeneration, optical logic and computing. Additionally, we also introduce extended silicon+photonics and show recent works on on-chip graphene-silicon photonic signal processing. The advances in on-chip silicon photonic signaling and processing with favorable performance pave the way to integrate complete optical communication systems on a monolithic chip and integrate silicon photonics and silicon nanoelectronics on a chip. It is believed that silicon photonics will enable more and more emerging advanced applications even beyond silicon photonic signaling and processing. | Jian Wang Yun Long | 2018 | Science Bulletin2018,63,19: | 9
Cadmium Activates Reactive Oxygen Species-dependent AKT/mT OR and Mitochondrial Apoptotic Pathways in Neuronal Cells显示文摘Objective To examine the role of Cd-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation in the apoptosis of neuronal cells. Methods Neuronal cells(primary rat cerebral cortical neurons and PC12 cells)were incubated with or without Cd post-pretreatment with rapamycin(Rap)or N-acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC).Cell viability was determined by MTT assay, apoptosis was examined using flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, and the activation of phosphoinositide 3'-kinase/protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR)and mitochondrial apoptotic pathways were measured by western blotting or immunofluorescence assays. Results Cd-induced activation of Akt/m TOR signaling, including Akt,m TOR,p70 S6 kinase(p70 S6K),and eukaryotic initiation factor 4E binding protein 1(4E-BP1).Rap,an m TOR inhibitor and NAC,a ROS scavenger, blocked Cd-induced activation of Akt/m TOR signaling and apoptosis of neuronal cells.Furthermore,NAC blocked the decrease of B-cell lymphoma 2/Bcl-2 associated X protein(Bcl-2/Bax)ratio,release of cytochrome c,cleavage of caspase-3 and poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase(PARP),and nuclear translocation of apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF)and endonuclease G(Endo G).Conclusion Cd-induced ROS generation activates Akt/m TOR and mitochondrial pathways, leading to apoptosis of neuronal cells. Our findings suggest that m TOR inhibitors or antioxidants have potential for preventing Cd-induced neurodegenerative diseases. | YUAN Yan WANG Yi HU Fei Fei JIANG Chen Yang ZHANG Ya Jing YANG Jin Long ZHAO Shi Wen GU Jian Hong LIU Xue Zhong BIAN Jian Chun LIU Zong Ping | 2016 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,2: | 8
Prognostic relevance of β-catenin expression in T2-3N0M0 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To study the expression of β-catenin in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) at stage T2-3N0M0 and its relation with the prognosis of ESCC patients. METHODS: Expression of β-catenin in 227 ESCC speci-mens was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC). A reproducible semi-quantitative method which takes both staining percentage and intensity into account was applied in IHC scoring, and receiver operating char-acteristic curve analysis was used to select the cut-off score for high or low IHC reactivity. Then, correlation of β-catenin expression with clinicopathological features and prognosis of ESCC patients was determined. RESULTS: No significant correlation was observed between β-catenin expression and clinicopathological parameters in terms of gender, age, tumor size, tumor grade, tumor location, depth of invasion and pathologi-cal stage. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that the up-regulated expression of β-catenin indicated a poorer post-operative survival rate of ESCC patients at stage T2-3N0M0 (P = 0.004), especially of those with T3 lesions (P = 0.014) or with stage ⅡB diseases (P = 0.007). Multivariate analysis also confirmed that β-catenin was an independent prognostic factor for the overall survival rate of ESCC patients at stage T2-3N0M0 (relative risk = 1.642, 95% CI: 1.159-2.327, P = 0.005). CONCLUSION: Elevated β-catenin expression level may be an adverse indicator for the prognosis of ESCC patients at stage T2-3N0M0, especially for those with T3 lesions or stage ⅡB diseases. | Dong-Rong Situ Yi Hu Zhi-Hua Zhu Jian Wang Hao Long Tie-Hua Rong | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,41: | 7
A Mobile Localization Strategy for Wireless Sensor Network in NLOS Conditions显示文摘The problem of mobile localization for wireless sensor network has attracted considerable attention in recent years. The localization accuracy will drastically grade in non-line of sight(NLOS) conditions. In this paper, we propose a mobile localization strategy based on Kalman filter. The key technologies for the proposed method are the NLOS identification and mitigation. The proposed method does not need the prior knowledge of the NLOS error and it is independent of the physical measurement ways. Simulation results show that the proposed method owns the higher localization accuracy when compared with other methods. | Long Cheng Yan Wang Xingming Sun Nan Hu Jian Zhang | 2016 | China Communications2016,13,10: | 7

Validity assessment and determination of the cutoff value for the Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need among 12-13 year-olds in Southern Chinese显示文摘To validate the use of the Index of Complexity,Outcome and Need (ICON) in assessing orthodontic treatment need among 12-13 year-olds in southern China,we determined the threshold value of ICON based on Chinese orthodontists' judgments. The samples consisted of 335 students in grade 7 from 16 randomly selected middle schools in Chengdu,China. Three associate professors provided ICON scores for each participant and the results were compared with the gold standard judgments from 25 experts on treatment needs. Based on the gold standard,195 casts belonged to the treatment category, while the rest 140 belonged to the no-treatment category. With the international cutoff point of 43,the sensitivity and specificity of the ICON score were 0.29 and 0.98. The best compromise between sensitivity and specificity in Chengdu, compared with the gold standard, was found at a cutoff point of 29,and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.88 and 0.83. When used to evaluate the treatment need of 12-13 year-olds in southern China, the international ICON cutoff value did not correspond well with Chinese orthodontists' judgments; a lower cutoff value of 29 offered a greater sensitivity and specificity with respect to expert orthodontists' perception of treatment need. | Zheng-Yu Liao Fan Jian Hu Long Yun Lu Yan Wang Zhi Yang Yu-Wei He Peter Wamalwa Jing Wang Nian-Song Ye Sheng Wang Wen-Li Lai | 2012 | International Journal of Oral Science2012,4,2: | 5
