1Quaternary high-resolution opal record and its paleoproductivity implication at ODP Site 1143,southern South China Sea显示文摘The correlation of opal content and MAR with oxygen isotopic records of benthonic foraminifera at Site 1143, southern South China Sea indicates that, since about 900 ka, the increasing opal content and MAR during the interglacial periods is inferred to reflect the higher surface productivity, for the intensified summer monsoon during the interglacial periods would result in the enhanced upwelling and nutrient supply. 2Siliceous microplankton fluxes and seasonal variations in the central South China Sea during 1993-1995: monsoon climate and ? Nino responses显示文摘Seasonal variations of radiolarian and diatom fluxes in the central South China Sea during 1993-1995 were overwhelmingly controlled by monsoon climate. Radiolarian and diatom increased obviously during the Northeast (from November to February) and Southwest (from June to September) monsoons and decreased during the periods between the monsoons. The change of circulation driven by the monsoons improved water exchange in the different areas that brought rich nutrient materials for the surface microplankton, thereby enhancing radiolarian and diatom fluxes. Variation of radiolarian flux coincided with organic carbon flux, surface primary and export productivities. High radiolarian flux corresponded to high surface primary productivity. 3Quaternary biogenic opal records in the South China Sea: Linkages to East Asian monsoon, global ice volume and orbital forcing显示文摘Particulate fluxes investigated in the central South China Sea (SCS) during 1993―1996 indicate that opal flux can be used to show primary productivity change, which provides a foundation for tracing the evolutionary relationship between the surface productivity and East Asian monsoon in the SCS during the late Quaternary glacial and interglacial periods. Based on the studies of opal % and their mass accumulation rates (MAR) at the six sites recovered from the SCS during the “Resolution” ODP Leg 184 and “Sonne” 95 cruise of the Sino-Germany cooperation, opal % and their MARs increased evidently in the northern sites since 470―900 ka, and they enhanced and reduced, respectively, during the glacial and interglacial periods. Whereas they increased obviously in the southern sites since 420―450 ka, and they augmented and declined, respectively, during the interglacial and glacial periods. The vari- ability in opal % and their MARs in the late Quaternary glacial cyclicity indicate the “seesaw” pattern of surface productivity in the SCS. The winter monsoon intensified during the glacial periods, surface productivity increased and decreased, respectively, in the northern and southern SCS. The summer monsoon strengthened during the interglacial periods, surface productivity increased and decreased, respectively, in the southern and northern SCS. The cross spectral analyses between the opal % in the northern and southern SCS during the Quaternary and global ice volume (δ 18O) and orbital forcing (ETP) indicate that the East Asian winter and summer monsoons could be ascribed to the different drive mechanisms. On the orbital time scale, the global ice volume change could be a dominant factor for the winter monsoon intension and temporal variations. 4Variations of opal accumulation rates and paleoproductivity over the past 12 Ma at ODP Site 1143, southern South China Sea显示文摘The biogenic silica analysis was performed on 463 samples from ODP 184 Site 1143, the southern South China Sea. The results show that the opal content and MAR evidently increased between 12.3 and 5.7 Ma, which was contemporary with the high carbonate and total MARs, reflecting the high biogenic productivity in the late Miocene. This demonstrates the occurrence of the late Miocene 'Biogenic Bloom Event' in the southern South China Sea, corresponding to the late Miocene-early Pliocene 'Biogenic Bloom Event' in the Indian-Pacific Ocean. 5Seasonal variations in planktonic foraminiferal flux and the chemical properties of their shells in the southern South China Sea显示文摘Results from sediment trap experiments conducted in the southern South China Sea from May 2004 to March 2006 revealed significant monsoon-induced seasonal variations in flux and shell geochemistry of planktonic foraminifera. The total and species-specific fluxes showed bimodal pattern, such as those of Globigerinoides ruber, Globigerinoides sacculifer, Neoglobo-quadrina dutertrei, Globigerinita glutinata, and Globigerina bulloides. Their high values occurred in the prevailing periods of the northeast and southwest monsoons, and the low ones appeared between the monsoons. Pulleniatina obliquiloculata had high flux rates mainly during northeast monsoon, with exceptional appearance in August 2004. These fluxes changed largely in accord with those of total particle matter and organic carbon, following chlorophyll concentration and wind force. It is inferred that the biogenic particle fluxes are controlled essentially by primary productivity under the influence of East Asian monsoon in the southern SCS. Shell stable oxygen isotope and Mg/Ca data correspond with seasonal variation of sea surface temperature. Shell δ18O values are affected primarily by sea water temperature, and the δ18O changes of different-depth dwelling species indicate upper sea water temperature gradient. Besides, the low carbon isotope values occurred in the periods of East Asian monsoon in general, whereas the high ones between the monsoons. 6Radiolarian record to paleoecological environment change events over the past 1.2 MaBP in the southern South China Sea显示文摘This note studies the Radiolarian fossil groups since 1.2 MaBP in ODP leg 184 site 1143, the southern South China Sea (SCS). The result shows that radiolarian abundance experienced a significant variation: before 0.9 MaBP it remained at the extremely low level, but increased with low extent between 0.9-0.65 Ma, which corresponded to the Mid-Pleistocene Transition stage, and it increased rapidly after 0.65 MaBP. During the whole process, the average abundance became higher and higher in each stage, and showed regularly periodic fluctuations. The obvious increase after 0.65 MaBP is inferred to result from the enhanced up-welling in this region, which was induced by the intensified monsoon circulation after the 'Mid-Pleistocene Transition'. An outstanding result of the spectral analyses is that a long oscillation of - 0.2 Ma cycle was found in the records of radiolarian abundance and complex diversity, which corresponds well to the result of other paleoceanographic indexes. 7Late Quaternary ice-rafted detritus events in the Chukchi Basin, western Arctic Ocean显示文摘The late Quaternary ice rafted detritus (IRD) events in the Chukchi Basin, western Arctic Ocean are indications of the provenance of the coarser detritus and ice export events, and also document the evolutionary histories of Beaufort Gyre and the North American Ice Sheet (NAIS). The sediment of core M03 from the Chukchi Basin was selected to study the regional response to the ice export events and the NAIS variability. The stratigraphic framework of M03 was established by a combination of lithological features and downcore color change cycles, AMS14C dating with foraminifera abundance and IRD events. The core was also compared with the adjacent core NWR 5 from the Northwind Ridge area. The core extends back to Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 7. A sedimentary hiatus of 10―20 ka might occur between 16 to 20 cm core depth. Seven IRD events are distinguished from the studied core and are presented during the early MIS 1, MIS 3, MIS 5 and late MIS 7. 8Age estimation of the mid-Pleistocene microtektite event in the South China Sea: A case showing the complexity of the sea-land correlation显示文摘The present study confirms the stratigraphical position of microtektite layer being clearly located below the Brunhes/Matuyama (B/M) boundary. Based on the sedimentation rate derived from the stable isotopic and magnetic data of ODP Site 772A, cores 17957 and 17959 in the South China Sea, the age of the mid-Pleistocene impact event was estimated at 10-12 ka earlier than the Brunhes-Matuyama polarity reversal. However, the microtektites were found above the measured B/M boundary in the loess profile due to the downward deviation of the measured B/M boundary from its true position. 9Stable oxygen and carbon isotopes from the planktonic foraminifera Neogloboquadrina pachyderma in the Western Arctic surface sediments:Implications for water mass distribution显示文摘Neogloboquadrina pachyderma is the most abundant planktonic foraminifera species found in the modern polar oceans.The δ18O and δ13C of N.pachyderma from the Western Arctic Ocean sediments were analyzed to reveal the implications of the proxies to environmental changes.The δ18O from N.pachyderma in the Chukchi Sea reflect the water mass distribution in this area.Heavier δ18O values were found along the Anadyr Current(AC) and lighter values in the central and eastern Chukchi Sea.These may reflect the freshwater signal from the Alaska Coastal Current(ACC) and Bering Sea Shelf Water(BSSW) .The light δ18O signature in the high Arctic basin comes from the freshwater stored in the Arctic surface layer.The δ13C distribution pattern in the Chukchi Sea is also influenced by the current system.High primary productivity along the AC results in heavy δ13C.The relatively low primary productivity and the freshwater component from the BSSW and ACC may be the reason for this light δ13C signal in the central and eastern Chukchi Sea.Our data reveal the importance of well ventilated Pacific Water through the Chukchi Sea into the Arctic Ocean.XIAO Wenshen WANG Rujian CHENG Xinrong 2011Advances in Polar Science2011,22,4:3
10Radiolarian biostratigraphy in the Southern Bering Sea since Pliocene显示文摘Detailed radiolarian biostratigraphy in the Plio-Pleistocene was analyzed by using samples from IODP Site U1340 that was drilled to a core depth of 604 m in the southern Bering Sea.A total of 227 species belonging to 102 genera were identified.Based on the distributions of the radiolarian index species at Site U1340,five radiolarian zones since the Pliocene were established in the southern Bering Sea for the first time,and 25 radiolarian bioevents were recognized.Their ages were estimated on the basis of the age-depth plot that was constructed by the synthetical datum of the effective biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic events.The radiolarian zones at Site U1340 were systematically compared with those in its adjacent regions since the late Early Pliocene,which further improved and interpreted the biostratigraphic datum as well as their correlations in the middle-high latitude of the North Pacific.In addition,the comparative results of radiolarian zones show that Botryostrobus aquilonaris Zone emended in this paper is equivalent to the upper part of the same zone defined by Hays,1970,and Druppatractus irregularis-Dorydruppa bensoni Zone as well as Spongodiscus sp.Zone,newly proposed in this paper,are well correlated with Cycladophora sakaii Zone and Stylatractus universus Zone in the subarctic North Pacific,respectively.ZHANG Qiang CHEN MuHong ZHANG LanLan WANG RuJian XIANG Rong HU WeiFen 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4:3
11Paleoceanographic records and sea ice extension history on the slope of the northern Bering Sea over the last 100 ka B.P.显示文摘Quantitative analytic results of the biogenic components in Core B2-9 from the northern Bering Sea slope indicate that the coarse fraction and opal content, serving as proxies of surface productivity, have increased stepwise since the marine isotope stage(MIS)5.3, reflecting periodic enhancement in surface productivity.The surface productivity attained its highest level during the Holocene, followed by MIS 3.2 to 2 and then MIS 5.3 to 3.3 with a lowest level. High total organic carbon(TOC) contents, together with high C/N ratios, which stand mostly between 7 and 20, show that the TOC was deposited from mixing sources. Therefore,one has to be cautious to use TOC as a proxy of surface productivity.The high TOC and C/N ratio during MIS 5.1, 3.3 to 3.2 and the Holocene reflect that the terrigenous organic matter input increased during interglacial periods.Increases in the fine- and silt-grained terrigenous components from MIS 5.3 to the middle Holocene imply that with the cooling climate, sea ice on the Bering Sea slope extended continuously. Ice-rafted and charcoal detritus increased during glacial, interstadial and the last deglaciation periods and decreased during interglacial periods, suggesting that sea ice on the slope increased and melted, respectively, during glacial and interglacial periods. 12Paleoenvironmental implications of Holocene long-chain n-alkanes on the northern Bering Sea Slope显示文摘The records of high-resolution terrestrial biological markers(biomarkers) from Core B2-9 from the northern Bering Sea Slope over the last 9.6 ka BP were presented in the study.Variations in input of terrestrial long-chain nalkanes(referred to as n-alkanes) and vegetation structure in their source regions were investigated.The results show that the nC_(27) is the main carbon peak and has the greatest contribution rate of the total n-alkane content;this might be related to the abundance of woody plants and their spatial distribution in the source region.nC_(23) is another n-alkane having a relatively high content;this was mainly derived from submerged plants widespread along the coastal areas in the northern hemisphere.Total n-alkane content dropped quickly at ca.7.8 ka BP,ca.6.7 ka BP and ca.5.4 ka BP,and was followed by four relatively stable stages mostly controlled by sea-level rise,climate change and vegetation distribution in the source region.Variation in carbon preference index(CPI)indicates that the n-alkanes primarily originated from higher land plants,and the average chain length(ACL) and nC_(31)/nC_(27) ratio reveal the relatively stable presence of woody/herbaceous plants during the Holocene,and dominate woody plants in most of the time.Simultaneous variation in total n-alkane content,nC_(27) content and its contribution,CPI,ACL and nC_(31)/nC_(27) ratio over several short periods suggest that the growth rate of the woody plant n-alkane contribution was lower than that of herbaceous plants and fossil n-alkanes under the particular climatic conditions of the source region.ZHANG Haifeng WANG Rujian XIAO Wenshen 2017Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,8:2
13Sea surface temperature and subtropical front movement in the South Tasman Sea during the last 800 ka显示文摘Southern Hemisphere mid-latitude westerlies contribute to the ventilation of the deep Southern Ocean(SO),and drive changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO2) and the global climate.As the westerlies control directly oceanic fronts,the movement of the subtropical front(STF) reflects the westerlies migration.Thus it is important to understand the relationships between STF movement and the weaterlies,ventilation of the deep SO,ice volume and atmospheric CO2.To this end,we use two new high-resolution records from early Marine Isotope Stage(MIS) 20(~800 ka) of sea surface temperature(SST) based on U k' 37 paleo-thermometer and benthic oxygen isotope(δ 18OB) at Ocean Drilling Program(ODP) Site 1170B in the southern Tasman Sea(STS),to construct linkages between the marine records and atmospheric proxies from Antarctic ice-cores.During the last 800 ka,the average SST(10.2℃) at Site 1170B is 1.8℃ lower than today(annual average 12℃).The highest average SST of 11.6℃ occurred during MIS 1,and the lowest average SST of 7.8℃ occurred during MIS 2.The warmest and coldest records of 14.7℃ and 6.2℃ occurred in the MIS 5 and MIS 2,respectively.In the glacial-interglacial cycles of the last 800 ka,variability of reconstructed SST shows that the STF moved northward or southward more than 3° of latitude compared with its present location.In the warmest stage MIS 5,the STF shifted to its southernmost location of ~49°S.In contrast,in the coldest stage MIS 2,the STF moved to its northernmost location of ~43°S.In response to orbital cycles,the westerlies movement led ice volume and atmospheric CO2 changes,but it was in phase with change in Antarctic atmospheric temperature.Ice volume only preceded atmospheric CO2 only a little at the 23-ka precession band,lagged the atmospheric CO2 at the 100-ka eccentricity band,and was in phase with atmospheric CO2 at the 40-ka obliquity band.LI WenBao WANG RuJian XIANG Fei DING XiaoHui ZHAO MeiXun 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,29:2
14QTL mapping of drought tolerance traits in soybean with SLAF sequencing显示文摘Drought stress is an important factor affecting soybean yield.Improving drought tolerance of soybean varieties can increase yield and yield stability when the stress occurs.Identifying QTL related to drought tolerance using molecular marker-assisted selection is able to facilitate the development of drought-tolerant soybean varieties.In this study,we used a high-yielding and drought-sensitive cultivar‘Zhonghuang 35’and a drought-tolerant cultivar‘Jindou 21’to establish F6:9 recombinant inbred lines.We constructed a highdensity genetic map using specific locus amplified fragment sequencing(SLAF-Seq)technology.The genetic map contained 8078 SLAF markers distributing across 20 soybean chromosomes with a total genetic distance of 3780.98 c M and an average genetic distance of0.59 c M between adjacent markers.Two treatments(irrigation and drought)were used in the field tests,the Additive-Inclusive Composite Interval Mapping(ICIM-ADD)was used to call QTL,and plant height and seed weight per plant were used as the indicators of drought tolerance.We identified a total of 23 QTL related to drought tolerance.Among them,seven QTL(q PH2,q PH6,q PH7,q PH17,q PH19-1,q PH19-2,and q PH19-3)on chromosomes 2,6,7,17,and 19 were related to plant height,and five QTL(q SWPP2,q SWPP6,q SWPP13,q SWPP17,and q SWPP19)on chromosomes 2,6,13,17,and 19 were related to seed weight and could be considered as the major QTL.In addition,three common QTL(q PH6/q SWPP6,q PH17/q SWPP17,and q PH19-3/q SWPP19)for both plant height and seed weight per plant were located in the same genomic regions on the same chromosomes.Three(q PH2,q PH17,and q PH19-2)and four novel QTL(q SWPP2,q SWPP13,q SWPP17,and q SWPP19)were identified for plant height and seed weight per plant,respectively.Two pairs of QTL(q PH2/q SWPP2 and q PH17/q SWPP17)were also common for both plant height and seed weight per plant.These QTL and closely linked SLAF markers could be used to accelerate breeding for drought tolerant cultivars via MAS.Honglei Ren Jianan Han Xingrong Wang Bo Zhang Lili Yu Huawei Gao Huilong Hong Rujian Sun Yu Tian Xusheng Qi Zhangxiong Liu Xiaoxia Wu Li-Juan Qiu 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,6:2
15In situ atomic-scale observation of dislocation behaviors in twin-structured Pt nanocrystals显示文摘The deformation mechanisms of twin-structured metallic materials have attracted great interest.Though previous theoretical predictions have suggested that the repulsive force of the twin boundary(TB)can significantly affect the deformation of twinstructured metals,it remains unclear whether this prediction applies to experimental conditions.In this paper,the atomic-scaled deformation process of twin-structured Pt nanocrystals was in situ observed using our home-made device in a high-resolution transmission electron microscope.We have shown that the plastic deformation of the twin-structured Pt nanocrystals was governed by full dislocation generation as well as Lomer dislocation(LD)lock formation and destruction.After LD locks were destructed,these full dislocations tended to move towards the surface of the nanocrystals.The findings revealed that due to the ultra-high repulsive force of TB on dislocation,there was no dislocation-TB reaction during the deformation.These findings can enrich our understanding of the dislocation behaviors of twin-structured nanocrystals.GUO YiZhong SUN Tao FU LiBo HAO LongHu HUANG Ming WEI RuJian LUO JunFeng HE Xin WANG XingQuan XIONG XiaoDong WANG LiHua HAN XiaoDong 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,3:2
16Late Quaternary terrigenous sedimentation in the Western Arctic Ocean as exemplified by a sedimentary record from the Alpha Ridge显示文摘Terrigenous components in sediment core B84A from the Alpha Ridge,Western Arctic Ocean,have been investigated to reconstruct Mid to Late Quaternary variations in sedimentation,provenance,and related climate changes. The core stratigraphy,evaluated by a combination of variations in Mn content,color cycles,foraminiferal abundance,and lithological correlation,extends back to estimated Marine Isotope Stage 12. Twelve Ice Rafted Detritus(IRD,>250 μm) events were identified and interpreted to mostly occur during deglaciation.The Canadian Arctic,which was covered by ice sheets during glacial periods,is suggested to be the major source region. The IRD events likely indicate the collapses of ice sheets,possibly in response to abrupt climate changes.Grain size analysis of B84A indicates sedimentologically sensitive components in core B84A in the 4-9 μm and 19-53 μm silt subfractions,which are inferred to be mainly transported by currents and sea ice,respectively. Down core variability of these two fractions may indicate changes in ice drift and current strength. 17Paleoceanographic records in the Chukchi Basin, western Arctic Ocean during the late Quaternary显示文摘The late Quaternary paleoceanographic changes in the western Arctic Ocean are revealed by quantitative studies of foraminiferal abundance, ice-rafted detritus (IRD) and its mineralogical and petrological compositions, planktonic Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (sin.) (Nps)-δ 18 O and -δ 13 C, biogenic and non-biogenic components in Core M03 token from the Chukchi Basin during the Second Chinese National Arctic Expedition cruise. Seven IRD events appeared at MIS 7, 5, 3 and 1. These IRD were carried in massive icebergs, which were exported to the Beaufort Sea through the M'Clure Strait Ice Stream, Canadian Arctic Archipelago, and then transported into the Chukchi Basin by the Beaufort Gyre. Low IRD deposition occurred during the glacial times when more extended ice cover and weakened Beaufort Gyre, while the open water condition and the intensified Beaufort Gyre during interglacial periods favored the IRD deposition. Therefore, the IRD events not only indicate the provenance of coarser detritus and ice export events, but also reflect the evolutionary histories of the Beaufort Gyre and North American ice sheet. Seven light Nps-δ 18 O and -δ 13 C excursions could respond to enhanced rates of sea ice formation resulting in the production and sinking of isotopically light brines, but was irrelevant to the warm Atlantic water and freshwater inputs. Whereas, the heavy Nps-δ 18 O and -δ 13 C values separately reflect the lessened Arctic freshwater and Pacific water, and well-ventilated surface water from the continental shelf and halocline water. 19Ice rafting history and paleoceanographic reconstructions of Core 08P23 from southern Chukchi Plateau, western Arctic Ocean since Marine Isotope Stage 3显示文摘Multiproxy investigations have been performed on Core 08P23 collected from the Chukchi Plateau, the western Arctic Ocean, during the Third Chinese National Arctic Expedition. The core was dated back to Marine Isotope Stage(MIS) 3 by a combination of Accelerator Mass Spectrometric(AMS) carbon-14 dating and regional core correlation. A total of five prominent ice-rafted detritus(IRD) events were recognized in MIS 2 and MIS 3. The IRD sources in MIS 3 are originated from vast carbonate rock outcrops of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and clastic quartz in MIS 2 may have a Eurasian origin. Most δ18O and δ13C values of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma(sinistral)(Nps) in Core 08P23 are lighter than the average values of surface sediments. The lighter δ18O and δ13C values of Nps in the two brown layers in MIS 1 and MIS 3 were resulted from meltwater events; and those in the gray layers in MIS 3 were caused by the enhanced sea ice formation. The δ18O values varied inversely with δ13C in MIS 2 indicate that the study area was covered by thick sea ice or ice sheet with low temperature and little meltwater, which prevented the biological productivity and sea-atmosphere exchange, as well as water mass ventilation.
