| 2 | Gastric intestinal metaplasia is associated with gastric dysplasia but is inversely correlated with esophageal dysplasia显示文摘AIM To determine which clinical factors might be associated with gastric intestinal metaplasia(IM) in a North American population.METHODS Pathology and endoscopy databases at an academicmedical center were reviewed to identify patients with and without gastric IM on biopsies for a retrospective cohort study. Patient demographics, insurance status, and other clinical factors were reviewed.RESULTS Four hundred and sixty-eight patients with gastric IM(mean age: 61.0 years ± 14.4 years, 55.5% female) and 171 without gastric IM(mean age: 48.8 years ± 20.8 years, 55.0% female) were compared. The endoscopic appearance of atrophic gastritis correlated with finding gastric IM on histopathology(OR = 2.05, P = 0.051). Gastric IM was associated with histologic findings of chronic gastritis(OR = 2.56, P < 0.001), gastric ulcer(OR = 6.97, P = 0.015), gastric dysplasia(OR = 6.11, P = 0.038), and gastric cancer(OR = 6.53, P = 0.027). Histologic findings of Barrett's esophagus(OR = 0.28, P = 0.003) and esophageal dysplasia(OR = 0.11, P = 0.014) were inversely associated with gastric IM. Tobacco use(OR = 1.73, P = 0.005) was associated with gastric IM.CONCLUSION Patients who smoke or have the endoscopic finding of atrophic gastritis are more likely to have gastric IM and should have screening gastric biopsies during esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD). | 3 | Screening of biological activities of Polygonum maritimum L.from A lgerian coast显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and the antibacterial activities of crude extract from aerial part of Polygonum maritimumL.(Polygonaceae)(P.maritimum)and to find new actives biomolecules.Methods:The whole plant was collected from the Rechgoune coast(West of Algeria),and methanolic crude extract of aerial parts ofP.maritimum(PMCE)was prepared.The extract was tested against different bacterial strain and tested for his ability to neutralize free radical(DPPH)and to scavenge the H2O2.Results:PMCE had a very high content of total phenol,which was(352.49依18.03)mg/g dry weight,expressed as gallic acid equivalent.PMCE exhibited excellent antioxidant activity,as measured using DPPH and H2O2 scavenging assays.It also showed a high antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacterial strains:Bacillus cereus,Bacillus subtilisandStaphylococcus aureus with an highest MIC of 120μg/mL.Conclusions:The antioxidant and antibacterial activity of the PMCE is probably due to phenolic compounds present in the extract.The contemporary presence of antioxidant and antibacterialactivities in the PMCE suggests that this plant may be a source of bioactive substances with multifaceted activity. | Imad Abdelhamid El-Haci Fawzia Atik Bekkara Wissame Mazari Fay al Hassani Mohamed AmineDidi | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013，3，8： | 2 |
| 4 | Deep brain stimulation for Tourette’s syndrome显示文摘Tourette syndrome(TS)is a childhood-onset neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by the presence of multiple motor and vocal tics.TS usually co-occurs with one or multiple psychiatric disorders.Although behavioral and pharmacological treatments for TS are available,some patients do not respond to the available treatments.For these patients,TS is a severe,chronic,and disabling disorder.In recent years,deep brain stimulation(DBS)of basal ganglia-thalamocortical networks has emerged as a promising intervention for refractory TS with or without psychiatric comorbidities.Three major challenges need to be addressed to move the field of DBS treatment for TS forward:(1)patient and DBS target selection,(2)ethical concerns with treating pediatric patients,and(3)DBS treatment optimization and improvement of individual patient outcomes(motor and phonic tics,as well as functioning and quality of life).The Tourette Association of America and the American Academy of Neurology have recently released their recommendations regarding surgical treatment for refractory TS.Here,we describe the challenges,advancements,and promises of the use of DBS in the treatment of TS.We summarize the results of clinical studies and discuss the ethical issues involved in treating pediatric patients.Our aim is to provide a better understanding of the feasibility,safety,selection process,and clinical effectiveness of DBS treatment for select cases of severe and medically intractable TS. | Wenying Xu Chencheng Zhang Wissam Deeb Bhavana Patel Yiwen Wu Valerie Voon Michael S.Okun Bomin Sun | 2020 | Translational Neurodegeneration2020，9，1： | 1 |
