Immune response, stress resistance and bacterial challenge in juvenile rainbow trouts Oncorhynchus mykiss fed diets containing chitosan-oligosaccharides显示文摘Effects of dietary supplementation of chitosan-oligosaccharides(COS)on the growth performance, immune response, stress resistance, and disease resistance of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were studied.Four experimental diets containing 0,20,40,or 60 mg/kg COS(COS0,COS20,COS40,and COS60,respectively)were fed to juvenile rainbow trout(initial weight=5.2±0.3 g)for 8 weeks.By the end of the feeding trial, representative groups of fish from each dietary treatment were challenged with stressor(30 sec air exposure)and pathogen exposure(intraperitoneal injection with Aeromonas hydrophila). Results showed that supplementation of COS in diets did not affect production performance and body composition of rainbow trout. However, fish fed the COS40 diet demonstrated improved phagocytic activities, respiratory burst activities and decreased serum cortisol level.Additionally, survival following A.hydrophila challenge was significant higher among fish fed the COS-supplemented feeds, although there was no difference based on the level of supplementation. The present study suggests that COS can be used as an immuno-stimulant in rainbow trout feeds. | Lin LUO Xuefeng CAI Chuan HE Min XUE Xiufeng WU Haining CAO | 2009 | Current Zoology2009,55,6: | 22
Variable Sets principle and method for flood classification显示文摘Flood classification is an effective way to improve flood forecasting accuracy. According to the opposite unity mathematical theorem in Variable Sets theory, this paper proposes a Variable Sets principle and method for flood classification, which is based on the mathematical theorem of dialectics basic laws. This newly proposed method explores a novel way to analyze and solve engineering problems by utilizing a dialectical thinking. In this paper, the Tuwei River basin, located in the Yellow River tributary, is taken as an example for flood classification. The results obtained in this study reveal the problems in a previous method—Set Pair Analysis classification method. The variable sets method is proven to be theoretically rigorous, computationally simple. The classification results are objective, accurate and consistent with the actual situations. This study demonstrates the significant importance of using a scientifically sound method in solving engineering problems. | CHEN ShouYu XUE ZhiChun LI Min | 2013 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,9: | 20
Infection with novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)causes pneumonia in Rhesus macaques显示文摘The 2019 novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)outbreak is a major challenge for public health.SARS-CoV-2 infection in human has a broad clinical spectrum ranging from mild to severe cases, with a mortality rate of^6.4%worldwide(based on World Health Organization daily situation report). However, the dynamics of viral infection, replication and shedding are poorly understood. Here,we show that Rhesus macaques are susceptible to the infection by SARS-CoV-2.After intratracheal inoculation, the first peak of viral RNA was observed in oropharyngeal swabs one day post infection(1 d.p.i.),mainly from the input of the inoculation, while the second peak occurred at 5 d.p.i.,which reflected on-site replication in the respiratory tract.Histopathological observation shows that SARS-CoV-2 infection can cause interstitial pneumonia in animals, characterized by hyperemia and edema, and infiltration of monocytes and lymphocytes in alveoli. We also identified SARS-CoV-2 RNA in respiratory tract tissues, including trachea, bronchus and lung;and viruses were also re-isolated from oropharyngeal swabs, bronchus and lung, respectively.Furthermore,we demonstrated that neutralizing antibodies generated from the primary infection could protect the Rhesus macaques from a second-round challenge by SARS-CoV-2.The non-human primate model that we established here provides a valuable platform to study SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis and to evaluate candidate vaccines and therapeutics. | Chao Shan Yan-Feng Yao Xing-Lou Yang Yi-Wu Zhou Ge Gao Yun Peng Lian Yang Xue Hu Jin Xiong Ren-Di Jiang Hua-Jun Zhang Xiao-Xiao Gao Cheng Peng Juan Min Ying Chen Hao-Rui Si Jia Wu Peng Zhou Yan-Yi Wang Hong-Ping Wei Wei Pang Zheng-Fei Hu Long-Bao Lv Yong-Tang Zheng Zheng-Li Shi Zhi-Ming Yuan | 2020 | Cell Research2020,30,8: | 19
Identification and differentiation of Panax ginseng,Panax quinquefolium, and Panax notoginseng by monitoring multiple diagnostic chemical markers显示文摘To differentiate traditional Chinese medicines(TCM) derived from congeneric species in TCM compound preparations is usually challenging. The roots of Panax ginseng(PG), Panax quinquefolium(PQ) and Panax notoginseng(PN) are used as popular TCM. They contain similar triterpenoid saponins(ginsenosides) as the major bioactive constituents. Thus far, only a few chemical markers have been discovered to differentiate these three species. Herein we present a multiple marker detection approach to effectively differentiate the three Panax species, and to identify them in compound preparations. Firstly, 85 batches of crude drug samples(including 32 PG, 30 PQ, and 23 PN) were analyzed by monitoring 40 major ginsenosides in the extracted ion chromatograms(EICs) using a validated LC–MS fingerprinting method. Secondly, the samples were clustered into different groups by pattern recognition chemometric approaches using PLS-DA and OPLS-DA models, and17 diagnostic chemical markers were discovered. Aside from the previously known Rf and p-F11, ginsenoside Rs1 could be a new marker to differentiate PG from PQ. Finally, the above multiple chemical markers were used to identify the Panax species in 60 batches of TCM compound preparations. | Wenzhi Yang Xue Qiao Kai Li Jingran Fan Tao Bo De-an Guo Min Ye | 2016 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2016,6,6: | 18
Optimization of sowing date and seeding rate for high winter wheat yield based on pre-winter plant development and soil water usage in the Loess Plateau,China显示文摘Sowing date and seeding rate are critical for productivity of winter wheat(Triticum aestivum L.).A three-year field experiment was conducted with three sowing dates(20 September(SD1),1 October(SD2),and 10 October(SD3)) and three seeding rates(SR67.5,SR90,and SR112.5) to determine suitable sowing date and seeding rate for high wheat yield.A large seasonal variation in accumulated temperature from sowing to winter dormancy was observed among three growing seasons.Suitable sowing dates for strong seedlings before winter varied with the seasons, that was SD2 in 2012–2013,SD3 in 2013–2014,and SD2 as well as SD1 in 2014–2015.Seasonal variation in precipitation during summer fallow also had substantial effects on soil water storage, and consequently influenced grain yield through soil water consumption from winter dormancy to maturity stages.Lower consumption of soil water from winter dormancy to booting stages could make more water available for productive growth from anthesis to maturity stages, leading to higher grain yield.SD2 combined with SR90 had the lowest soil water consumption from winter dormancy to booting stages in 2012–2013 and 2014–2015; while in 2013–2014,it was close to that with SR67.5 or SR112.5.For productive growth from anthesis to maturity stages,SD2 with SR90 had the highest soil water consumption in all three seasons. The highest water consumption in the productive growth period resulted in the best grain yield in both low and high rainfall years.Ear number largely contributed to the seasonal variation in grain yield, while grain number per ear and 1 000-grain weight also contributed to grain yield, especially when soil water storage was high. Our results indicate that sowing date and seeding rate affect grain yield through seedling development before winter and also affect soil water consumption in different growth periods.By selecting the suitable sowing date(1 October) in combination with the proper seeding rate of 90 kg ha–1,the best yield was achieved.Based on these results,we recommend that the current sowing date be delayed from 22 or 23 September to 1 October. | REN Ai-xia SUN Min WANG Pei-ru XUE Ling-zhu LEI Miao-miao XUE Jian-fu GAO Zhi-qiang YANG Zhen-ping | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,1: | 17

Effects of warming and clipping on plant and soil properties of an alpine meadow in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘Climate warming and livestock grazing are known to have great influences on alpine ecosystems like those of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP) in China. However, it is lacking of studies on the effects of warming and grazing on plant and soil properties in these alpine ecosystems. In this study, we reported the related research from manipulative experiment in 2010–2012 in the QTP. The aim of this study was to investigate the individual and combined effects of warming and clipping on plant and soil properties in the alpine meadow ecosystem. Infrared radiators were used to simulate climate warming starting in July 2010, while clipping was performed once in October 2011 to simulate the local livestock grazing. The experiment was designed as a randomized block consisting of five replications and four treatments: control(CK), warming(W), clipping(C) and warming+clipping combination(WC). The plant and soil properties were investigated in the growing season of the alpine meadow in 2012. The results showed that W and WC treatments significantly decreased relative humidity at 20-cm height above ground as well as significantly increases air temperature at the same height, surface temperature, and soil temperature at the depth of 0–30 cm. However, the C treatment did not significantly decrease soil moisture and soil temperature at the depth of 0–60 cm. Relative to CK, vegetation height and species number increased significantly in W and WC treatment, respectively, while vegetation aboveground biomass decreased significantly in C treatment in the early growing season. However, vegetation cover, species diversity, belowground biomass and soil properties at the depth of 0–30 cm did not differ significantly in W, C and WC treatments. Soil moisture increased at the depth of 40–100 cm in W and WC treatments, while belowground biomass, soil activated carbon, organic carbon and total nitrogen increased in the 30–50 cm soil layer in W, C and WC treatments. Although the initial responses of plant and soil properties to experimental warming and clipping were slow and weak, the drought induced by the downward shift of soil moisture in the upper soil layers may induce plant belowground biomass to transfer to the deeper soil layers. This movement would modify the distributions of soil activated carbon, organic carbon and total nitrogen. However, long-term data collection is needed to further explain this interesting phenomenon. | Man Hou XU Fei PENG Quan Gang YOU Jian GUO Xia Fei TIAN Min LIU Xian XUE | 2015 | Journal of Arid Land2015,7,2: | 14

Analysis of EET on Ca increasing the melting point of Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase显示文摘The present investigation showed that the additions of Ca to the alloy AZ91 were mainly dissolved into the Mg17Al12 phase and increased its melting point and thermal stability, which would have great effects on the high-temperature properties of AZ91 alloy. The empirical electron theory (EET) of solid and molecules was used to calculate the valence electron structures (VES) of Mg17Al12 intermetallic compound with and without Ca addition. The results showed that Ca dissolving in Mg17Al12 phase increased the strength of bonds that control the thermal stability of Mg17Al12 phase. Additions of Ca also made the distribution of the valence electrons on the dominant bond network more uniform in the whole unit cell of Mg17Al12. The theoretical conclusions well account for the experimental results. | MIN Xuegang, DU Wenwen, XUE Feng & SUN YangshanDepartment of Material Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 210096, China | 2002 | Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,13: | 13
Serum Uric Acid is Associated with the Predicted Risk of Prevalent Cardiovascular Disease in a Community-dwelling Population without Diabetes显示文摘Objective To examine the association between serum uric acid levels and cardiovascular disease risk among individuals without diabetes. Methods We investigated the association between serum uric acid levels and the risk of prevalent cardiometabolic diseases, 10-year Framingham risk for coronary heart disease, and 10-year risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases(ASCVD) among 8,252 participants aged ≥ 40 years without diabetes from Jiading district, Shanghai, China. Results Body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure, and serum lipids increased progressively across the sex-specific quartiles of uric acid(all P trend < 0.05). Compared with individuals in the lowest quartile, those in the higher quartiles had a significantly higher prevalence of obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia(all P trend < 0.05). A fully adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals in the highest quartile had an increased risk of predicted cardiovascular disease compared with those in the lowest quartile of uric acid. The multivariate adjusted odds ratios(ORs) [95% confidence intervals(CIs)] for the highest quartiles for high Framingham risk were 3.00(2.00-4.50) in men and 2.95(1.08-8.43) in women. The multivariate adjusted ORs(95% CIs) for the highest quartile for high ASCVD risk were 1.93(1.17-3.17) in men and 4.53(2.57-7.98) in women. Conclusion Serum uric acid level is associated with an increased risk of prevalent obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, 10-year Framingham risk for coronary heart disease, and 10-year risk for ASCVD among Chinese adults without diabetes. | CHENG Di DU Rui WU Xue Yan LIN Lin PENG Kui MA Li Na XU Yu XU Min CHEN Yu Hong BI Yu Fang WANG Wei Qing DAI Meng LU Jie Li | 2018 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2018,31,2: | 13

Warming effects on plant biomass allocation and correlations with the soil environment in an alpine meadow,China显示文摘Alpine meadow ecosystem is fragile and highly sensitive to climate change. An understanding of the allocation of above-and below-ground plant biomass and correlations with environmental factors in alpine meadow ecosystem can result in better protection and effective utilization of alpine meadow vegetation. We chose an alpine meadow in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of China as the study area and designed experimental warming plots using a randomized block experimental design. We used single-tube infrared radiators as warming devices, established the warming treatments, and measured plant above- (AGB) and below-ground biomass (BGB) during the growing seasons (May to September) in 2012 and 2013.We determined the allocation of biomass and the relationship between biomass and soil environment under the warming treatment.Biomass indices including above-ground biomass,below-ground biomass and the ratio of root to shoot (R/S) ,and soil factors including soil moisture and soil temperature at different depths were measured. The results showed that (1) BGB of the alpine meadow had the most significant allometric correlation with its AGB (y=298.7x~ (0.44) ,P<0.001) ,but the relationship decreased under warming treatment and the determination coefficient of the functional equation was 0.102 which was less than that of 0.188 of the unwarming treatment (control) ; (2) BGB increased, especially in the deeper soil layers under warming treatment (P>0.05) .At 0–10 cm soil depth, the percentages of BGB under warming treatment were smaller than those of the control treatment with the decreases being 8.52% and 8.23% in 2012 and 2013,respectively.However,the BGB increased 2.13% and 2.06% in 2012 and 2013,respectively,at 10–50 cm soil depths; (3) BGB had significant positive correlations with soil moisture at 100 cm depth and with soil temperature at 20–100 cm depths (P<0.05) ,but the mean correlation coefficient of soil temperature was 0.354,greater than the 0.245 of soil moisture.R/S ratio had a significant negative correlation with soil temperature at 20 cm depth (P<0.05) .The warmer soil temperatures in shallow layers increased the biomass allocation to above-ground plant parts, which leading to the increase in AGB;whereas the enhanced thawing of frozen soil in deep layers causing by warming treatment produced more moisture that affected plant biomass allocation. | XU Manhou LIU Min XUE Xian ZHAI Datong | 2016 | Journal of Arid Land2016,8,5: | 12
Heterostructured Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Under Alkaline Conditions显示文摘The hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) is a half-cell reaction in water electrolysis for producing hydrogen gas. In industrial water electrolysis, the HER is often conducted in alkaline media to achieve higher stability of the electrode materials. However, the kinetics of the HER in alkaline medium is slow relative to that in acid because of the low concentration of protons in the former.Under the latter conditions, the entire HER process will require additional effort to obtain protons by water dissociation near or on the catalyst surface. Heterostructured catalysts, with fascinating synergistic effects derived from their heterogeneous interfaces, can provide multiple functional sites for the overall reaction process. At present, the activity of the most active known heterostructured catalysts surpasses(platinum-based heterostructures) or approaches (noble-metal-free heterostructures) that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst under alkaline conditions, demonstrating an infusive potential to break through the bottlenecks. This review summarizes the most representative and recent heterostructured HER catalysts for alkaline medium. The basics and principles of the HER under alkaline conditions are first introduced, followed by a discussion of the latest advances in heterostructured catalysts with/without noblemetal-based heterostructures. Special focus is placed on approaches for enhancing the reaction rate by accelerating the Volmer step. This review aims to provide an overview of the current developments in alkaline HER catalysts, as well as the design principles for the future development of heterostructured nano-or micro-sized electrocatalysts. | Jumeng Wei Min Zhou Anchun Long Yanming Xue Hanbin Liao Chao Wei Zhichuan J.Xu | 2018 | Nano-Micro Letters2018,10,4: | 11
Mitosin/CENP-F is a conserved kinetochore protein subjected to cyto plasmic dynein-mediated poleward transport显示文摘Mitosin/CENP-F is a human nuclear protein transiently associated with the outer kinetochore plate in M phase and is involved in M phase progression. LEK1 and CMF1, which are its murine and chicken orthologs, however, are implicated in muscle differentiation and reportedly not distributed at kinetochores. We therefore conducted several assays to clarify this issue. The typical centromere staining patterns were observed in mitotic cells from both human primary culture and murine, canine, and mink cell lines. A C-terminal portion of LEK1 also conferred centromere localization. Our analysis further suggests conserved kinetochore localization of mammalian mitosin orthologs. Moreover, mitosin was associated preferentially with kinetochores of unaligned chromosomes. It was also constantly transported from kinetochores to spindle poles by cytoplasmic dynein. These properties resemble those of other kinetochore proteins important for the spindle checkpoint, thus implying a role of mitosin in this checkpoint. Therefore, mitosin family may serve as multifunctional proteins involved in both mitosis and differentiation. | ZHEN YE YANG, JING GUO, NING LI, MIN QIAN, SHENG NIAN WANG, XUE LIANG ZHULaboratory of Molecular Cell Biology, Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 320 Yueyang Road, Shanghai 200031, China | 2003 | Cell Research2003,13,4: | 11
Inhibitory Activity of Honeysuckle Extracts against Influenza A Virus In Vitro and In Vivo显示文摘Honeysuckle has been used in the treatment of influenza virus infection for thousands of years in China. However, its main active components and the functional mechanisms remain to be elucidated. Here, four honeysuckle extracts, including acids extract, flavonoids extract, total extract and acids-flavonoids mixture, were prepared to clarify the main active antiviral components. The cytopathic effect reduction assay showed that all the four extracts inhibited the replication of influenza viruses H1N1,H3N2 and the oseltamivir-resistant mutant strain H1N1-H275Y.The acids-flavonoids mixture had the strongest inhibitory effects in vitro with EC_(50) values of 3.8,4.1,and >20 lg/m L against H1N1,H3N2 and H1N1-H275Y,respectively,showing competitive antiviral activity with oseltamivir and ribavirin.Honeysuckle acids extract also showed the most significant antiviral activity in vivo.Oral administration of the acids extract at a dosage of 600 mg/kg/d effectively alleviated viral pneumonia, maintained body weight and improved the survival rate to 30% of the mice infected with a lethal dose of H1N1.The results of time-of-drug addition experiment and neuraminidase (NA) inhibition assay showed that honeysuckle extracts had a broad-spectrum inhibitory effect against influenza virus NAs.The flavonoid extract showed the strongest inhibitory effect on the NA of influenza virus H7N9 with an IC_(50) of 24.7 lg/m L.These results suggested that these extracts might exert their antiviral activity by suppressing the release of influenza viruses.Briefly, our findings demonstrate that acids and flavonoids extracts of honeysuckle are the major antiviral active components, and the acids extract has the potential to be developed into an antiviral agent against influenza virus, especially for oseltamivirresistant viruses. | Mengwei Li Yuxu Wang Jing Jin Jie Dou Qinglong Guo Xue Ke Changlin Zhou Min Guo | 2021 | Virologica Sinica2021,36,3: | 11

Effect of Morinda officinalis capsule on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats显示文摘AIM:To explore the therapeutic effects of Morinda officinalis capsules(MOP) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats.METHOD:Six-month-old female Sprague–Dawley rats were induced for postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMOP) by bilateral ovariectomy and divided into seven groups as follows:sham-operated group, ovariectomized(OVX) control group,OVX treated with xianlinggubao(XLGB)(270 mg·kg-1·d-1),OVX treated with alendronate sodium(ALN)(3 mg·kg-1·d-1),and OVX treated with Morinda officinalis capsule(MOP) of graded doses(90,270 and 810 mg·kg-1·d-1) groups.Oral treatments were administered daily on the 4th week after ovariectomy and lasted for 12 weeks. The bone mineral density was evaluated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP),alkaline phosphatase(AKP),and osteocalcin(OC) levels in the serum and plasma were determined by standard colorimetric and enzyme immunoassays methods.Bone biomechanical properties and morphological parameters were analyzed by three-point bending test and histomorphometry respectively.RESULTS:Morinda officinalis capsules at all doses were able to significantly prevent the OVX-induced loss of bone mass due to diminishing serum AKP and TRAP levels while elevating OC level in the plasma.Morinda officinalis capsules also enhanced the bone strength and prevented the deterioration of trabecular microarchitecture.CONCLUSION:Morinda officinalis capsules possess potent anti-osteoporotic activity in OVX rats which could be an effective treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis. | LI Ye Lü Shan-Shan TANG Gui-Ying HOU Min TANG Qing ZHANG Xiao-Na CHEN Wei-Hai CHEN Gang XUE Qiang ZHANG Cong-Cong ZHANG Ji-Fen CHEN Yi XU Xiao-Yu | 2014 | Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2014,12,3: | 10
Molecular Cloning and Expression Analysis of the ζ-Carotene Desaturase Gene in Chinese kale(Brassica oleracea var.alboglabra Bailey)显示文摘ζ-Carotene desaturase(ZDS)is an important enzyme in carotenoid biosynthesis. Here, the Brassica oleracea var.alboglabra ZDS(Boa ZDS)gene was cloned from Chinese kale via reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)and deposited in Gen Bank(accession number KY662297).The Boa ZDS gene contains an open reading frame of 1 686 bp that encodes a 561-amino acid protein.Sequence analysis indicates that the ZDS protein is apparently conserved during plant evolution and is most closely related to B.oleracea var.capitata and B.rapa.The promoter sequence of the Boa ZDS gene was predicted to harbor several cis-acting elements that are related to light and phytohormone responses.Semiquantitative RT-PCR analysis showed that Boa ZDS expression varied among different developmental stages and organs.Relative ZDS expression remained stable during germination and seedling stages and rapidly increased at the mature leaf stage. The leaves showed the highest ZDS expression levels compared to the other organs.ZDS expression decreased in all flower tissues during blooming. The fused protein of Boa ZDS was obtained by prokaryotic expression.Heterologous expression of Boa ZDS in Escherichia coli confirmed that Boa ZDS encodes a functionalζ-carotene desaturase that increases β-carotene accumulation in E.coli cells harboring a β-carotene-producing plasmid. The findings of the present study provide a molecular basis for the elucidation of ZDS gene function in Chinese kale. | SUN Bo ZHANG Fen XUE Shengling CHANG Jiaqi ZHENG Aihong JIANG Min MIAO Huiying WANG Qiaomei TANG Haoru | 2018 | Horticultural Plant Journal2018,4,3: | 10
