1Epidemiological Survey of the Prevalence of Non-fatal Injury among Children Aged 5-14 Years in China显示文摘Objective To determine the prevalence of non-fatal injuries among children aged 5-14 years in China.Methods Data of 21 973 children aged 5-14 years were extracted from the Fourth National Health Service Survey of China carried out between June 15 and July 10,2008.Injury-related indicators included:history of ever having had an injury,and injury frequency,cause,location and severity.Results The overall prevalence of non-fatal injuries among the children in the previous 12 months was 17.0 per 1000 subjects.The leading causes of non-fatal injuries were falls,animal bites,traffic accidents,falling objects and burns.The majority of children sustained only one injury.The main place of injury was at home in 40% and 54% of urban boys and girls,respectively,at school in 48% of rural boys,and at home and at school each in 33% of rural girls.Medical treatment for one day was the main option for 80% of urban boys and girls,84% of rural boys,and 72% of rural girls.Conclusion Nonfatal injuries among children aged 5-14 years are a serious public health concern in China.HU Ming HU Guo Qing SUN Zhen Qiu HE Xiang 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,4:18

3A preliminary study on measurements of black carbon in the atmosphere of northwest Qilian Shan显示文摘Black carbon (BC) concentration and meteorological data are measured discontinuously from May 2009 to March 2011,at the Qilian Shan Station of Glaciology and Ecologic Environment (hereafter 'QSSGEE'),located near the terminal of the Laohugou No.12 Glacier in northwestern Qilian Shan,China.We measured the daily,monthly and seasonal variations of BC concentration in the atmosphere and discussed the possible emission sources.Black carbon background concentration in this region varied in the range of 18-72 ng/m 3 with the highest in summer and the lowest in autumn.The relations between BC concentration and surface wind direction indicated that BC concentration was higher when northwest wind prevails while lower when southeast wind prevails.Air masses backward trajectories showed the potential emission sources in the northwest.Significant positive correlations between daily mean BC concentration and relative humidity indicated that BC might be one of important cloud condensation nuclei.This hypothesis needs to be confirmed further through cloud microphysical features in this region.Shuyu Zhao Jing Ming Cunde Xiao Weijun Sun Xiang Qin 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,1:9

5Supplementation of Fermented Barley Extracts with Lactobacillus Plantarum dy-1 Inhibits Obesity via a UCP1-dependent Mechanism显示文摘Objective We aimed to explore how fermented barley extracts with Lactobacillus plantarum dy-1(LFBE) affected the browning in adipocytes and obese rats.Methods In vitro, 3T3-L1 cells were induced by LFBE, raw barley extraction(RBE) and polyphenol compounds(PC) from LFBE to evaluate the adipocyte differentiation.In vivo, obese SD rats induced by high fat diet(HFD) were randomly divided into three groups treated with oral gavage:(a) normal control diet with distilled water,(b) HFD with distilled water,(c) HFD with 800 mg LFBE/kg body weight(bw).Results In vitro, LFBE and the PC in the extraction significantly inhibited adipogenesis and potentiated browning of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, rather than RBE.In vivo, we observed remarkable decreases in the body weight, serum lipid levels, white adipose tissue(WAT) weights and cell sizes of brown adipose tissues(BAT) in the LFBE group after 10 weeks.LFBE group could gain more mass of interscapular BAT(IBAT) and promote the dehydrogenase activity in the mitochondria.And LFBE may potentiate process of the IBAT thermogenesis and epididymis adipose tissue(EAT) browning via activating the uncoupling protein 1(UCP1)-dependent mechanism to suppress the obesity.Conclusion These results demonstrated that LFBE decreased obesity partly by increasing the BAT mass and the energy expenditure by activating BAT thermogenesis and WAT browning in a UCP1-dependent mechanism.XIAO Xiang BAI Juan LI Ming Song ZHANG Jia Yan SUN Xin Juan DONG Ying 2019Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2019,32,8:4

7Facile Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Polypeptides via Fast and Moisture Insensitive Polymerization of a-Amino Acid N-Carboxyanhydrides显示文摘Polypeptides have been widely utilized in the fields of biomaterials and biomedicine.Ever since N-carboxyanhydride(NCA)was reported by Hermann Leuchs in 1906,ring-opening polymerization of NCAS has been extensively used to prepare polypeptides.Despite continuous innovations,it is still challenging to synthesize polypeptides in high molecular weight fficiently.To address this challenge,we developed KHMDS/NaHMDS initiated fast NCA polymerization that is also moisture tolerant,open-flask amenable and terminal tunable.This NCA polymerization was able to proceed in most common solvents and meet the solubility requirement of variable NCA monomers and corresponding polypeptides.KHMDS can initiate r benzy-L glutamate-N carboxyanhydride(BLG NCA)polymerization in a reaction rate 92 times faster than does hexylamine and 80 times faster than does triethylamine.This NCA polymerization also demonstrated easy and fast synthesis of gram-scale long chain polypeptides in an open flask.Yue Ming Wu Wei-Wei Zhang Rui-Yi Zhou Qi Chen Chen-Yu Xie Heng-Xue Xiang Bin Sun Mei-Fang Zhu Run-Hui Liu 2020Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2020,38,10:4

9Osteogenesis effects of magnetic nanoparticles modified-porous scaffolds for the reconstruction of bone defect after bone tumor resection显示文摘The treatment of bone defect after bone tumor resection is a great challenge for orthopedic surgeons.It should consider that not only to inhibit tumor growth and recurrence,but also to repair the defect and preserve the limb function.Hence,it is necessary to find an ideal functional biomaterial that can repair bone defects and inactivate tumor.Magnetic nanoparticles(MNPs)have its unique advantages to achieve targeted hyperthermia to avoid damage to surrounding normal tissues and promote osteoblastic activity and bone formation.Based on the previous stage,we successfully prepared hydroxyapatite(HAP)composite poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)scaffolds and verified its good osteogenic properties,in this study,we produced an HAP composite PLGA scaffolds modified with MNPs.The composite scaffold showed appropriate porosity and mechanical characteristics,while MNPs possessed excellent magnetic and thermal properties.The cytological assay indicated that the MNPs have antitumor ability and the composite scaffold possessed good biocompatibility.In vivo bone defect repair experiment revealed that the composite scaffold had good osteogenic capacity.Hence,we could demonstrate that the composite scaffolds have a good effect in bone repair,which could provide a potential approach for repairing bone defect after bone tumor excision.Ming Li Jianheng Liu Xiang Cui Guofei Sun Jianwei Hu Sijia Xu Fei Yang Licheng Zhang XiumeiWang Peifu Tang 2019Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,6:3
10Effect of methylmercury on LPO levels, SH groups and activities of GSH-Px, SOD, XOD in liver of rats显示文摘In recent years, lipid peroxidation has been considered as the initial step for foreign toxic substances to damage cells. In this paper, the effects of methylmercury (MeHg) on LPO (lipid peroxide) levels, SH (sulfhydryl) groups and activities of GSH\|Px (glutathione peroxidase), SOD (superoxide dismutase), XOD (xanthine oxidase) in liver of rats treated with doses of MeHg at different intervals were studied by TBA, Ellman Reagent, NBT colorimetric methods and chemilluminescence. Meanwhile, the contents of FR (free radical)and MeHg in the liver of female rats were measured by ESR and GC. Results showed that the LPO levels in the experimental group increased significantly over those of the control group ( p<0.05— p<0.001) , reaching maximum point on the first poisoning day. Both male and female rats showed marked positive dose\|effect relations (Male: Y=261.4±49.4X, r=0.94, p<0.02; Female : Y=255.0±73.0X, r=0.99, p<0.001 ). N-SH (nonprotein sulfhydryl), P\|SH (protein sulfhydryl), T-SH (total sulfhydryl) contents and GSH\|Px activities decreased significantly (p<0.05-p<0.001). For GSH\|Px, both groups reached minimum value on the first poisoning day. In female rats, activities of SOD and XOD increased markedly ( p<0.02-p<0.01 ) although the contents of FR showed no significant changes. 12Clinical benefit of COX-2 inhibitors in the adjuvant chemotherapy of advanced non-small cell lung cancer: A systematic review and metaanalysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Lung cancer is a major cause of death among patients,and non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)accounts for more than 80%of all lung cancers in many countries.AIM To evaluate the clinical benefit(CB)of COX-2 inhibitors in patients with advanced NSCLC using systematic review.METHODS We searched the six electronic databases up until December 9,2019 for studies that examined the efficacy and safety of the addition of COX-2 inhibitors to chemotherapy for NSCLC.Overall survival(OS),progression free survival(PFS),1-year survival rate(SR),overall response rate(ORR),CB,complete response(CR),partial response(PR),stable disease(SD),and toxicities were measured with more than one outcome as their endpoints.Fixed and random effects models were used to calculate risk estimates in a meta-analysis.Potential publication bias was calculated using Egger’s linear regression test.Data analysis was performed using R software.RESULTS The COX-2 inhibitors combined with chemotherapy were not found to be more effective than chemotherapy alone in OS,progression free survival,1-year SR,CB,CR,and SD.However,there was a difference in overall response rate for patients with advanced NSCLC.In a subgroup analysis,significantly increased ORR results were found for celecoxib,rofecoxib,first-line treatment,and PR.For adverse events,the increase in COX-2 inhibitor was positively correlated with the increase in grade 3 and 4 toxicity of leukopenia,thrombocytopenia,and cardiovascular events.CONCLUSION COX-2 inhibitor combined with chemotherapy increased the total effective rate of advanced NSCLC with the possible increased risk of blood toxicity and cardiovascular events and had no effect on survival index.Yu-Qiong Xu Xiang Long Ming Han Ming-Qiang Huang Jia-Fa Lu Xue-Dong Sun Wei Han 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,3:2

20Microscopic transduodenal excision of an ampullary adenoma:A case report and review of the literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Transduodenal local excision is an alternative treatment approach for benign ampullary tumors.However,this procedure has technical difficulties,especially during reconstruction of the pancreaticobiliary ducts.An operating microscope has been widely used by surgeons for delicate surgery due to its major advantages of magnification,illumination,and stereoscopic view.The application of an operating microscope in transduodenal excision of ampullary tumors has not been reported.CASE SUMMARY A 55-year-old woman was admitted for investigation of recurrent upper abdominal pain.Physical examination and laboratory tests found no abnormalities.Imaging identified a large mass in the descending part of the duodenum.Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a 3.5-cm-sized villous growth over the major duodenal papilla.Pathology of the endoscopic biopsy indicated a villous adenoma with low-grade dysplasia.Microscopic transduodenal excision of the ampullary tumor was performed.The final pathological diagnosis was villous-tubular adenoma with low-grade dysplasia.The patient was discharged on postoperative day 12 after an uneventful recovery.Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography was performed 3 mo postoperatively and showed no bile duct or pancreatic duct strictures and no tumor recurrence.The patient is continuing follow-up at our clinic and remains well.CONCLUSION Operating microscope-assisted transduodenal local excision is a feasible and effective option for benign ampullary tumors.Xiang Zheng Qing-Jing Sun Bo Zhou Ming Jin Sheng Yan 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,18:1
