1Ascorbic acid accelerates Wallerian degeneration after peripheral nerve injury显示文摘Wallerian degeneration occurs after peripheral nerve injury and provides a beneficial microenvironment for nerve regeneration.Our previous study demonstrated that ascorbic acid promotes peripheral nerve regeneration,possibly through promoting Schwann cell proliferation and phagocytosis and enhancing macrophage proliferation,migration,and phagocytosis.Because Schwann cells and macrophages are the main cells involved in Wallerian degeneration,we speculated that ascorbic acid may accelerate this degenerative process.To test this hypothesis,400 mg/kg ascorbic acid was administered intragastrically immediately after sciatic nerve transection,and 200 mg/kg ascorbic acid was then administered intragastrically every day.In addition,rat sciatic nerve explants were treated with 200μM ascorbic acid.Ascorbic acid significantly accelerated the degradation of myelin basic protein-positive myelin and neurofilament 200-positive axons in both the transected nerves and nerve explants.Furthermore,ascorbic acid inhibited myelin-associated glycoprotein expression,increased c-Jun expression in Schwann cells,and increased both the number of macrophages and the amount of myelin fragments in the macrophages.These findings suggest that ascorbic acid accelerates Wallerian degeneration by accelerating the degeneration of axons and myelin in the injured nerve,promoting the dedifferentiation of Schwann cells,and enhancing macrophage recruitment and phagocytosis.The study was approved by the Southern Medical University Animal Care and Use Committee(approval No.SMU-L2015081)on October 15,2015.Lixia Li Yizhou Xu Xianghai Wang Jingmin Liu Xiaofang Hu Dandan Tan Zhenlin Li Jiasong Guo 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,6:6
2Contourlet HMT model with directional feature显示文摘According to Shanno's information theory,the directional feature of texture is defined as the value of directional variable when an image signal attains a singularity of random distribution.In terms of this definition,we calculate the texture's directional features using Tamura's method and study the directional probability distribution of Contourlet coefficients.Then we find that the directional features tend to be conveyed across parent and child subbands.Based on this conclusion,we establish a novel probability distribution model of hidden direction variables under the condition of hidden state variable's distribution,named Contourlet HMT model with directional feature.The structure and training method of the model are presented as well.Moreover,an unsupervised context-based image segmentation algorithm is proposed on the basis of the proposed model.Its effectiveness is verified via extensive experiments carried out on several synthesized images and remote sensing images.WANG XiangHai CHEN MingYing SONG ChuanMing XU MengChun FANG LingLing 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,7:6
3A novel artificial nerve graft for repairing longdistance sciatic nerve defects:a self-assembling peptide nanofiber scaffold-containing poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) conduit显示文摘In this study, we developed a novel artificial nerve graft termed self-assembling peptide nanofiber scaffold(SAPNS)-containing poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA) conduit(SPC) and used it to bridge a 10-mm-long sciatic nerve defect in the rat. Retrograde tracing, behavioral testing and histomorphometric analyses showed that compared with the empty PLGA conduit implantation group, the SPC implantation group had a larger number of growing and extending axons, a markedly increased diameter of regenerated axons and a greater thickness of the myelin sheath in the conduit. Furthermore, there was an increase in the size of the neuromuscular junction and myofiber diameter in the target muscle. 4Investigation of straightforward impedance eduction method on single-degree-of-freedom acoustic liners显示文摘In order to address the current aircraft noise problem, the knowledge of impedance of acoustic liners subjected to high-intensity sound and grazing flow is of crucial importance to the design of high-efficiency acoustic nacelles. To this end, the present study is twofold. Firstly, the StraightForward impedance eduction Method(SFM) is evaluated by the strategy that the impedance of a liner specimen is firstly experimentally educed on a flow duct using the SFM, and then its accuracy is checked by comparing the numerical prediction with the measured wall sound pressure of the flow duct. Secondly, the effects of grazing flow and high-intensity sound on the impedance behavior of two single-layer liners are investigated based on comparisons between educed impedance and predictions by three impedance models. The performance of the SFM is validated by showing that the educed impedance leads to excellent agreement between the simulation and the measured wall sound pressure for different grazing flow Mach numbers and Sound Pressure Levels(SPLs) and over a frequency range from 3000 Hz down to 500 Hz. The grazing flow effect generally has the tendency that the acoustic resistance exhibits a slight decrease before it increases linearly with an increase in Mach,predicted successfully by the sound-vortex interaction theoretical model and the Kooi semi-empirical impedance model. However, the Goodrich semi-empirical impedance model gives only a simple linear relation of acoustic resistance starting from Mach zero. Additionally, when the SPL increases from 110 to 140 d B in the present investigation, the acoustic resistance exhibits a significant increase at all frequencies in the absence of flow; however, the resistance decreases slightly under a grazing flow of Mach 0.117. 5Analysis and calculation model of energy consumption and product yields of delayed coking units显示文摘Delayed coking is an important process used to convert heave oils to light products. Energy consumption and fight oil yield are important factors for evaluating the delayed coking process. This paper analyzes the energy consumption and product yields of delayed coking units in China. The average energy consumption shows a decreasing trend in recent years. The energy consumption of different refineries varies greatly, with the average value of the highest energy consumption approximately twice that of the lowest energy consumption. The factors affecting both energy consumption and product yields were analyzed, and correlation models of energy consumption and product yields were established using a quadratic polynomial. The model coefficients were calculated through least square regression of collected industrial data of delayed coking units. Both models showed good calculation accuracy. The average absolute error of the energy consumption model was approximately 85 MJ/t, and that of the product yield model ranged from 1 wt% to 2.3 wt%. 6Experimental and numerical simulation of bird-strike performance of lattice-material-infilled curved plate显示文摘The anti-bird-strike performance of a lattice-material-infilled curved plate is investigated herein.Since automatically filling the curved structure by classical lattice material filling methods will cause a large number of manufacturing defects,a space-dependent lattice material filling method for the curved plate is firstly proposed in this paper Next,using a face-centered cubic lattice,a lattice-material-infilled test piece with a hollow ratio of 40.8%is built.The test pieces are manufactured via additive manufacturing using titanium alloy.In bird-strike experimental tests,the test pieces are crashed against gelatin birds at an impact velocity of 200 m/s.Dynamic strain gauges are used to record the crash history and the results are discussed.Furthermore,a numerical analysis to simulate the bird-strike experiment is performed.The results from the experimental tests and numerical simulation agree well.This work shows that the lattice-material-infilled curved plate yields promising bird-strike resistance.Therefore,lattice-infilled materials are feasible for protecting aerospace components against bird-strike as well as for reducing the component weight.Jun YAN Chenguang ZHANG Sixu HUO Xianghai CHAI Zhihui LIU Kun YAN 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,8:4
7Characterization of Pythium chondricola associated with red rot disease of Pyropia yezoensis (Ueda)(Bangiales,Rhodophyta) from Lianyungang,China显示文摘Pyropia yezoensis(formerly Porphyra yezoensis)is an economically important red alga that is cultured extensively in China.The red rot disease occurs commonly during Pyropia cultivation,causing serious economic losses.An incidence of red rot disease was found in a P.yezoensis farm from mid-November to mid-December 2015 at Lianyungang,Jiangsu Province,China.Histopathological examination revealed that the naturally infected thalli were infected apparently by a pathogen,leading to red rot symptoms.The causative agent was isolated and identified as the oomycete Pythium chondricola by morphological analysis and sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer and cytochrome oxidase subunit 1(cox 1).In artifi cial infection experiments on the P.yezoensis blades,the P.chondricola isolate was able to cause the same characteristic histopathology seen in natural infections.P.chondricola grew well at a wide range of temperatures in the range 8-31℃,salinities at 0-45 and pH 5-9.In an orthogonal test used to determine the effects of environmental factors(temperature,salinity,and zoospore concentration)on infection,the data revealed that temperature was the most important factor to affect red rot disease development,with the optimal conditions for disease expansion being 20℃,35 salinity,and a zoospore concentration of 10^6 zoospores/mL.The results obtained from the present study prompted us to set up a comprehensive epidemiological study on Pyropia,which will provide support to maintain the healthy development of the Pyropia industry in China.QIU Liping MAO Yunxiang TANG Lei TANG Xianghai MO Zhaolan 2019Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2019,37,3:3

9Defensive physiological characters of Pyropia yezoensis resistant lines to the red rot disease显示文摘To explore ef fective physiological indexes to distinguish the resistant lines and susceptible lines of Pyt hium porphyrae,the causal agent of red rot disease of Pyropia yezoensis,and establish the disease-resistance breeding strategy,we obtained and analyzed the candidate resistant and susceptible lines by population selection.Gametophytes of the candidate lines were cultured in seawater containing Pyt.porphyrae zoospores.Antioxidase activities,including superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxidase(POD)and polyphenol oxidase(PPO),were measured and compared between the two lines before and after infection.In the resistant lines,SOD and POD activities increased and then decreased,but PPO activity rose with the prolongation of the infection time.The phenylalanine ammonia lyase(PAL)activities also increased and then decreased after infection,but it had significantly different expression in the two lines without pathogen attack.The synthesis rates ofβ-1,3-glucanase,and cell-wall degrading enzyme were different from each other between the two lines after infection of P yt.porphyrae.Comparison in the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA)and reactive oxygen species(ROS)in the two lines showed that,the two contents varied synchronously in response to the pathogen attack.Changes of these enzymes activities or contents demonstrated that Pyr.yezoensis could resist against the pathogen of P yt.porphyrae with the antioxidant defense capacity.In addition,β-1.3-glucanase content showed extremely significant dif ference between the two lines,and the PAL had consistent expression dif ference.Therefore,phenylalanine ammonia lyase(PAL)andβ-1,3-glucanase can be considered as an ef fective index to distinguish susceptible line and resistant line,with which the workload of the resistant breeding could be reduced in the future.ZOU Dandan TANG Xianghai QIU Liping MAO Yunxiang 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,2:1

15Role of microtubule dynamics in Wallerian degeneration and nerve regeneration after peripheral nerve injury显示文摘Wallerian degeneration,the progressive disintegration of distal axons and myelin that occurs after peripheral nerve injury,is essential for creating a permissive microenvironment for nerve regeneration,and involves cytoskeletal reconstruction.However,it is unclear whether microtubule dynamics play a role in this process.To address this,we treated cultured sciatic nerve explants,an in vitro model of Wallerian degeneration,with the microtubule-targeting agents paclitaxel and nocodazole.We found that paclitaxel-induced microtubule stabilization promoted axon and myelin degeneration and Schwann cell dedifferentiation,whereas nocodazole-induced microtubule destabilization inhibited these processes.Evaluation of an in vivo model of peripheral nerve injury showed that treatment with paclitaxel or nocodazole accelerated or attenuated axonal regeneration,as well as functional recovery of nerve conduction and target muscle and motor behavior,respectively.These results suggest that microtubule dynamics participate in peripheral nerve regeneration after injury by affecting Wallerian degeneration.This study was approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of Southern Medical University,China(approval No.SMUL2015081) on October 15,2015.Jingmin Liu Lixia Li Ying Zou Lanya Fu Xinrui Ma Haowen Zhang Yizhou Xu Jiawei Xu Jiaqi Zhang Mi Li Xiaofang Hu Zhenlin Li Xianghai Wang Hao Sun Hui Zheng Lixin Zhu Jiasong Guo 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,3:1
16Numerical simulation of two-phase flow and droplet breakage of glycerin-water mixture and kerosene in the cyclone reactor显示文摘A liquid-liquid cyclone reactor(LLCR)was designed to achieve mixing-reaction-separation integration during isobutane alkylation catalyzed by ionic liquids.However,studies of the droplets deformation and breakage in the kind of reactors are lacking.In this work,the research studied the velocity distribution,pressure field,and turbulent field to investigate the flow pattern and the main energy loss location in the LLCR through the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)method.The simulation results were verified by experiemnts to prove the correctness of the model.Then the deformation and breakage process of droplets,and the influencing factors of droplets breakage were studied by remodeling which was based on the tangential velocity distribution result of the three dimensional model.The three dimensional simulation results clearly showed that the pressure of the LLCR was mainly concentrated in the cone section and fluid turbulent motion was the most intense near the lateral wall.The reconstruct the results of the two dimensional model clearly showed that the deformation and breakage location of droplets were mainly occurred in the velocity boundary layer,while it was difficult to break in the mainstream region.In addition,low surface tension and high Weber number had a positive effect on droplet breakage.Yanni Chi Rui Zhang Xianghai Meng Jian Xu Wei Du Haiyan Liu Zhichang Liu 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,6:1
