Microbiologically influenced corrosion of Cu by nitrate reducing marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa显示文摘The microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) mechanisms of copper by Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a typical strain of nitrate reducing bacteria(NRB) was investigated in this lab study.Cu was immersed in deoxygenated LB-NO3 seawater inoculated with P.aeruginosa and incubated for 2 weeks. Results showed that this NRB caused pitting and uniform corrosion. The maximum pit depths after 7 d and 14 d in125 mL anaerobic vials with 50 mL broth were 5.1 μm and 9.1 μm,accompanied by specific weight losses of 1.3 mg/cm2(7 d) and 1.7 mg/cm2(14 d),respectively.Electrochemical measurements corroborated weight loss and pit depth data trends.Experimental results indicated that extracellular electron transfer for nitrate reduction was the main MIC mechanism and ammonia secreted by P.aeruginosa could also play a role in the overall Cu corrosion process. | Yanan Pu Wenwen Dou Tingyue Gu Shiya Tang Xiaomei Han | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,12: | 3
Stable confinement of Fe/Fe_(3)C in Fe,N-codoped carbon nanotube towards robust zinc-air batteries显示文摘Catalytic oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)have garnered great attention as the key character in metal-air batteries.Herein,we developed a superior nonprecious bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst, fabricated through spatial confinement of Fe/Fe_(3)C nanocrystals in pyridinic N and Fe-Nx rich carbon nanotubes(Fe/Fe_(3)C-N-CNTs).During ORR,the resultant electrocatalyst exhibits positive onset pote ntial of 1.0 V(vs.RHE),large half-wave potentials of 0.88 V(vs.RHE),which is more positive than Pt/C(0.98 V and 0.83 V,respectively).Remarkably,Fe/Fe_(3)C-N-CNTs exhibits outstanding durability and great methanol tolerance, exceeding Pt/C and most reported nonprecious metal-based oxygen reduction electrocatalysts.Moreover,Fe/Fe_(3)C-N-CNTs show a markedly low potential at j=10 mA/cm^(2),small Tafel slopes and extremely high stability for OER.Impressively, the Fe/Fe_(3)C-N-CNTs-based Zn-air batteries demonstrate high power density of 183 mW/cm^(2)and robust charge/discharge stability. It is revealed that the spatial confinement effect can impede the aggregation and corrosion of Fe/Fe_(3)C nanocrystals.Meanwhile,Fe/Fe_(3)C and Fe-Nx play synergistic effect on boosting the ORR/OER activity, which provides an important guideline for construction of inexpensive nonprecious metal-carbon hybrid nanomaterials. | Lingbo Zong Xin Chen Shuming Dou Kaicai Fan Zumin Wang Wenjun Zhang Yunmei Du Jie Xu Xiaofei Jia Qi Zhang Xia Li Yida Deng Yanan Chen Lei Wang | 2021 | Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,3: | 2
Recycle spent graphite to defect-engineered,high-power graphite anode显示文摘Graphite is a dominant anode material for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)due to its outstanding electrochemical performance. However, slow lithium ion(Li+)kinetics of graphite anode restricts its further application.Herein,we report that high-temperature shock(HTS)can drive spent graphite(SG)into defect-rich recycled graphite(DRG)which is ideal for high-rate anode. The DRG exhibits the charging specific capacity of 323 mAh/g at a high current density of 2 C,which outperforms commercial graphite(CG,120 mAh/g).The eminent electrochemical performance of DRG can be attributed to the recovery of layered structure and partial remaining defects of SG during ultrafast heating and cooling process, which can effectively reduce total strain energy, accelerate the phase transition in thermodynamics and improve the Li+diffusion. This study provides a facile strategy to guide the re-graphitization of SG and design high performance battery electrode materials by defect engineering from the atomic level. | Jiawei Luo Jingchao Zhang Zhaoxin Guo Zhedong Liu Shuming Dou Wei-Di Liu Yanan Chen Wenbin Hu | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,4: | 2
Development of Metal and Metal-Based Composites Anode Materials for Potassium-Ion Batteries显示文摘Potassium-ion batteries(KIBs)are considered the next powerful potential generation energy storage system because of substantial potassium resource availability and similar characteristics with lithium.Unfortunately, the actual application of KIBs is inferior to that of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),in which the fi nite energy density, ordinary circular life, and underdeveloped fabrication technique dominate the key constraints.Various works have recently been directed to growing novel anode electrodes with superior electrochemical capability.Noticeably,metals/metal oxides materials(e.g.,Sb,Sn,Zn,SnO_(2),and MoO_(2))have been widely investigated as KIBs anodes because of high theoretical capacity, suggesting outstanding promise for high-energy KIBs.In this review, the latest research of metals/metal oxides electrodes for potassium storage is summarized. The major strategies to control the electrochemical property of metals/metal oxides electrodes are discussed. Finally, the future investigation foreground for these anode electrodes has been proposed. | Jie Xu Shuming Dou Yaqi Wang Qunyao Yuan Yida Deng Yanan Chen | 2021 | Transactions of Tianjin University2021,27,3: | 1
Ultrafine Fe/Fe3C decorated on Fe-N_(x)-C as bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for efficient Zn-air batteries显示文摘Efficient bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for ORR and OER are fundamental to the development of high performance metal-air batteries.Herein,a facile cost-efficient two-step pyrolysis strategy for the fabrication of a bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst has been proposed. The efficient non-preciousmetal-based electrocatalyst,Fe/Fe_(3)C@Fe-N_(x)-C consists of highly curved onion-like carbon shells that encapsulate Fe/Fe_(3)C nanoparticles, distributed on an extensively porous graphitic carbon aerogel. The obtained Fe/Fe_(3)C@Fe-N_(x)-C aerogel exhibited superb electrochemical activity, excellent durability, and high methanol tolerance. The experimental results indicated that the assembly of onion-like carbon shells with encapsulated Fe/Fe_(3)C yielded highly curved carbon surfaces with abundant Fe-Nxactive sites,a porous structure, and enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards ORR and OER,hence displaying promising potential for application as an air cathode in rechargeable Zn-air batteries. The constructed Zn-air battery possessed an exceptional peak power density of~147 mW cm^(-2),outstanding cycling stability(200 cycles,1 h per cycle),and a small voltage gap of 0.87 V.This study offers valuable insights regarding the construction of low-cost and highly active bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for efficient air batteries. | Lingbo Zong Xin Chen Siliang Liu Kaicai Fan Shuming Dou Jie Xu Xiaoxian Zhao Wenjun Zhang Yaowen Zhang Weicui Wu Fenghong Lu Lixiu Cui Xiaofei Jia Qi Zhang Yu Yang Jian Zhao Xia Li Yida Deng Yanan Chen Lei Wang | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,5: | 1
Homer1a reduces inflammatory response after retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘Elevated intraocular pressure(IOP)is one of the causes of retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury, which results in NRP3 inflammasome activation and leads to visual damage.Homerla is repo rted to play a protective role in neuroinflammation in the cerebrum. However, the effects of Homerla on NLRP3inflammasomes in retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury caused by elevated IOP remain unknown. In our study, animal models we re constructed using C57BL/6J and Homer1^(flox/-)/Homerla^(+/-)/Nestin-Cre^(+/-)mice with elevated IOP-induced retinal ischemia/repe rfusion injury. For in vitro expe riments, the oxygen-glucose deprivation/repe rfusion injury model was constructed with M uller cells. We found that Homerla ove rexpression amelio rated the decreases in retinal thickness and Muller cell viability after ischemia/reperfusion injury.Furthermore,Homerla knockdown promoted NF-κB P65^(Ser536)activation via caspase-8,NF-κB P65 nuclear translocation,NLRP3 inflammasome formation, and the production and processing of interleukin-1βand inte rleukin-18.The opposite results we re observed with Homerla ove rexpression. Finally, the combined administration of Homerla protein and JSH-23 significantly inhibited the reduction in retinal thickness in Homer1^(flox/-)Homer1a^(+/-)/Nestin-Cre^(+/-)mice and apoptosis in M uller cells after ischemia/reperfusion injury.Taken together, these studies demonstrate that Homer1a exerts protective effects on retinal tissue and M uller cells via the caspase-8/NF-KB P65/NLRP3 pathway after I/R injury. | Yanan Dou Xiaowei Fei Xin He Yu Huan Jialiang Wei Xiuquan Wu Weihao Lyu Zhou Fei Xia Li Fei Fei | 2024 | Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,7: | 0
Key considerations on the development of biodegradable biomaterials for clinical translation of medical devices:With cartilage repair products as an example显示文摘With the interdisciplinary convergence of biology, medicine and materials science, both research and clinical translation of biomaterials are progressing at a rapid pace. However, there is still a huge gap between applied basic research on biomaterials and their translational products-medical devices, where two significantly different perspectives and mindsets often work independently and non-synergistically,which in turn significantly increases financial costs and research effort.Although this gap is well-known and often criticized in the biopharmaceutical industry,it is gradually widening. In this article,we critically examine the developmental pipeline of biodegradable biomaterials and biomaterial-based medical device products. Then based on clinical needs, market analysis, and relevant regulations, some ideas are proposed to integrate the two different mindsets to guide applied basic research and translation of biomaterial-based products, from the material and technical perspectives.Cartilage repair substitutes are discussed here as an example.Hopefully, this will lay a strong foundation for biomaterial research and clinical translation, while reducing the amount of extra research effort and funding required due to the dissonance between innovative basic research and commercialization pipeline. | Li Wang Xiaolei Guo Jiaqing Chen Zhen Zhen Bin Cao Wenqian Wan Yuandong Dou Haobo Pan Feng Xu Zepu Zhang Jianmei Wang Daisong Li Quanyi Guo Qing Jiang Yanan Du Jiakuo Yu Boon Chin Heng Qianqian Han Zigang Ge | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,3: | 0
Effect of load-cycling amplitude on performance degradation for proton exchange membrane fuel cell显示文摘Durability is one of the critical issues to restrict the commercialization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs) for the vehicle application. The practical dynamic operation significantly affects the PEMFCs durability by corroding its key components. In this work, the degradation behavior of a single PEMFC has been investigated under a simulated automotive load-cycling operation, with the aim of revealing the effect of load amplitude(0.8 and 0.2 A/cm2 amplitude for the current density range of0.1-0.9 and 0.1-0.3 A/cm^(2),respectively) on its performance degradation.A more severe degradation on the fuel cell performance is observed under a higher load amplitude of 0.8 A/cm^(2) cycling operation,with$10.5% decrease of cell voltage at a current density of 1.0 A/cm2.The larger loss of fuel cell performance under the higher load amplitude test is mainly due to the frequent fluctuation of a wider potential cycling.Physicochemical characterizations analyses indicate that the Pt nanoparticles in cathodic catalyst layer grow faster with a higher increase extent of particle size under this circumstance because of their repeated oxidation/reduction and subsequent dissolution/agglomeration process, resulting in the degradation of platinum catalyst and thus the cell performance.Additionally, the detected microstructure change of the cathodic catalyst layer also contributes to the performance failure that causes a distinct increase in mass transfer resistance. | Kun Wang Ning Li Yanan Yang Shaojie Ke Zhengping Zhang Meiling Dou Feng Wang | 2021 | Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,10: | 0
Kinetic study of the DNA annealing properties of RECQ5β helicase显示文摘RecQ family helicases are critical for maintaining genomic integrity. Many RecQ family helicases not only unwind duplex, and other more complicated DNA structures, but also possess, interestingly, DNA annealing (strand pairing) activity. Here, we systematically investigated the DNA annealing properties of RECQ5β by measuring DNA annealing kinetics, equilibrium DNA binding, and kinetics of dissociation from ssDNA. RECQ5β catalyzed DNA annealing most efficiently when the enzyme molecules covered approximately 40%-50% of the DNA strand, in the absence or presence of different nucleotide cofactors (AMPPNP, ATPγS, or ADP) under our buffer conditions. A comparative study with RECQ5β1-662 confirmed that the C-terminal region of RECQ5β was essential for its high DNA annealing activity. These results contribute to our understanding of the mechanism of DNA annealing catalyzed by RecQ family helicases. | DING XiuYan XU YaNan LI Wei WANG PengYe XI XuGuang DOU ShuoXing | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,11: | 0
