| 1 | Edema and neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampus and cortex of elderly rats following transient cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘BACKGROUND: Previous studies of cerebral ischemia have used young animals, with an ischemictime greater than 5 minutes (safe time limit). Despite an increased understanding of neuronalapoptosis, it remains uncertain whether brief cerebral ischemic events of 5 minutes or less damagebrain tissue in elderly rodents.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of transient cerebral ischemia (5 minutes)/reperfusion injuryon brain cortical and hippocampal edema, aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) expression, and neuronal apoptosisin aged rats, and to compare ischemic sensitivity between cortex and hippocampus.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at theInstitute of Cerebrovascular Disease, Qingdao University Medical School from April 2008 to March2009.MATERIALS: Rabbit anti-AQP-4 polyclonal antibody, TUNEL kit, and SABC immunohistochemistrykit were purchased from Wuhan Boster Bioengineering, China.METHODS: A total of 160 healthy, male, aged 19-21 months, Wistar rats were randomly assignedto 4 groups: sham-surgery, and ischemia 1-, 3-, and 5-minute groups, with 40 rats in each group.The global cerebral ischemia model was established using the Pusinelli four-vessel occlusion, andthe three cerebral ischemia groups were subdivided into reperfusion 12-hour, 1-, 2-, 3-, and 7-daysubgroups, with 8 rats in each subgroup. The sham-surgery group was subjected to exposure of thefirst cervical bilateral alar foramina and bilateral common carotid arteries.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The dry-wet weight assay was used to measure brain water contentand histopathology of the cortex and hippocampus was observed following hematoxylin-eosinstaining. In addition, cortical and hippocampal AQP-4 expression was detected by streptavidin-biotincomplex immunohistochemistry, and neuronal apoptosis was detected by the TUNEL method.RESULTS: There was no significant difference in brain water content or AQP-4 expression in thecortex and hippocampus between ischemia 1- and 3-minute groups and the sham-surgery group orbrain water content or AQP-4 expression in the cortex between ischemia 5-minute group andsham-surgery group (P> 0.05). However, brain water content and AQP-4 expression in thehippocampus after 5 minutes of cerebral ischemia were significantly increased compared with thesham-surgery group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01 ). Several TUNEL-positive cells were observed in thecortex and hippocampus of the sham-surgery group and ischemia 1-minute group, as well as in thecortex of the ischemia 3-minute group. In addition, the number of apoptotic neurons in thehippocampus of ischemia 3-minute group and in the cortex and hippocampus of ischemia 5-minutegroup was significantly increased (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Neuronal apoptosis was increased after 12hours of ischemia/reperfusion, and it reached a peak by 2 days (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Transient cerebral ischemia (5 minutes) resulted in increased hippocampal edema,AQP-4 expression, and neuronal apoptosis. | 2 | Study on alkali mechanical activation for recovering rare earth from waste fluorescent lamps显示文摘Recycling of rare earth from waste fluorescent lamps is becoming increasingly important in future sustainable development. However, cerium and terbium are usually difficult to recover due to the stable spinel structure. In the research, alkali mechanical activation was innovatively used to pretreat the waste phosphors for recovering rare earths. The effect of alkali mechanical activation on the structural changes of waste phosphors was explored using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). Meanwhile, the effects of different parameters including milling speed, activation time,and amount of alkali on the leaching rates of rare earth were investigated. The rare earth elements recovery rates are observed to increase rapidly, particularly with increases in rotational speed and activation time. Under optimal conditions, the maximum leaching rates of Ce and Tb reach 85.0% and 89.8%,respectively. And the total recovery rates of rare earth reach 95.2%. All the results indicate that alkali mechanical activation can effectively destroy the spinel structure and produce substantial physicochemical changes. | 8 | Fabrication of ZIF-8 membranes on dual-layer ZnO-PES/PES organic hollow fibers by in-situ crystallization显示文摘Compared to inorganic supports, polymeric supports can offer additional benefits, e.g., easier processing and cheaper. However, the organic surface has weak adhesion to the zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs) membrane layer, which usually requires complex surface modification or seeding. Herein, we demonstrate that a dual-layer asymmetric polymer support prepared by a simple spinning process is a good candidate for the preparation of ZIF-8 membrane. The inner layer of the support is an organic hollow fiber(PES) with finger-like pores, and the outer layer is a ZnO-PES composite layer with finger-like pores also. The ZnO-PES composite layer is expected to contain uniform ZnO crystals in the polymer matrix, i.e., the ZnO particles in the skin layer of the support are not easy to fall off. Under the induction of ZnO particles in the outer layers, continuous ZIF-8 membranes can be prepared by single in-situ crystallization, showing good adhesion to the supports. The obtained ZIF-8 membranes show a H_(2) permeance of 8.7 × 10^(-8)mol·m^(-2)·s^(-1)·Pa^(-1) with a H_(2)/N_(2) ideal separation selectivity of 18.0. | 12 | Relationship of Microchannels and Plaque Erosion in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction: An Optical Coherence Tomography Study显示文摘Objective:Microchannels are associated with the progression of atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques.However,in patients with culprit optical coherence tomography(OCT)-defined plaque erosion,the knowledge of microchannels and culprit lesion vulnerability is limited.The aim of this study was to investigate culprit lesion characteristics in patients with ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction(STEMI)caused by plaque erosion with and without microchannels using OCT.Methods:In all,348 STEMI patients with plaque erosion who underwent OCT of the culprit lesion at the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University(Harbin,China)from August 2014 to December 2017 were included and divided into the microchannel group(n=116,33.3%)and no-microchannel group(n=232,66.7%).The clinical characteristics and OCT-derived plaque features were compared between both groups.Results:Among the 348 STEMI patients with plaque erosion,culprit lesions with microchannels had higher incidence of lipid plaque(59.5%vs.45.3%,P=0.012);calcification(41.4%vs.24.6%,P=0.002);spotty calcification(30.2%vs.18.1%,P=0.014);macrophages accumulation(72.4%vs.45.7%,P<0.001);and cholesterol crystals(32.8%vs.14.2%,P<0.001)than those without microchannels.In addition,minimal lumen area was smaller((1.9±0.9)mm2 vs.(2.8±2.3)mm2,P<0.001)and lumen area stenosis was greater((71.3%±13.4%)vs.(65.3%±19.3%),P=0.001)in the microchannel group than in the no-microchannel group.Conclusion:In patients with STEMI caused by plaque erosion,one-third manifested typical microchannel characteristics,and those with microchannels were associated with more severe luminal stenosis and more vulnerable plaque features than those without microchannels. | Senqing Jiang Junchen Guo Yanwei Yin Chao Fang Jifei Wang Yidan Wang Fangmeng Lei Sibo Sun Xueying Pei Ruyi Jia Shaotao Zhang Lulu Li Yini Wang Lei Xing Huai Yu Huimin Liu Maoen Xu Xuefeng Ren Lijia Ma Guo Wei Jingbo Hou Jiannan Dai Bo Yu | 2022 | Cardiology Discovery2022,2,2: | 0 |
| 13 | Effect of ketamine on aquaporin-4 expression and neuronal apoptosis in brain tissues following brain injury in rats显示文摘BACKGROUND: Aquaporin-4 (AQP-4) is closely related to the formation of brain edema. Neuronal apoptosis plays an important part in the conversion of swelled neuron following traumatic brain injury. At present, the studies on the protective effect of ketamine on brain have involved in its effect on aquaporin-4 expression and neuronal apoptosis in the brain tissues following brain injury in rats. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of ketamine on AQP-4 expression and neuronal apoptosis in the brain tissue following rat brain injury, and analyze the time-dependence of ketamine in the treatment of brain injury. DESIGN: Randomized grouping design, controlled animal trial.SETTING: Department of Anesthesiology, the Medical School Hospital of Qingdao University.MATERIALS: Totally 150 rats of clean grade, aged 3 months, were involved and randomized into control group and ketamine-treated group, with 75 rats in each. Each group was divided into 5 subgroups separately at 6,12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after injury, with 15 rats at each time point. Main instruments and reagents: homemade beat machine, ketamine hydrochloride (Hengrui Pharmaceutical Factory, Jiangsu), rabbit anti-rat AQP-4 polyclonal antibody, SABC immunohistochemical reagent kit and TUNEL reagent kit (Boster Co.,Ltd., Wuhan). METHODS: This trial was carried out in the Institute of Cerebrovascular Disease, Medical College of Qingdao University during March 2005 to February 2006. A weight-dropping rat model of brain injury was created with Feeney method. The rats in the ketamine-treated group were intraperitoneally administered with 50 g/L ketamine (120 mg/kg) one hour after injury, but ketamine was replaced by normal saline in the control group. In each subgroup, the water content of cerebral hemisphere was measured in 5 rats chosen randomly. The left 10 rats in each subgroup were transcardiacally perfused with ketamine, then the brain tissue was made into paraffin sections and stained by haematoxylin and eosin. Neuronal morphology was observed. AQP-4 expression and neuronal apoptosis were measured with immunohistochemical method and TUNEL method respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Water content in brain tissue, neuronal morphology, the number of AQP-4 positive neurons and TUNEL positive neurons in rats of two groups at each time point after injury.RESULTS: Totally 150 rats entered the stage of result analysis. ① Water content of brain tissue: The water content of brain tissue at each time point after injury in the ketamine-treated group was lower than that in the control group. There were very significant differences in water content at 12 and 24 hours after injury respectively between ketamine-treated group and control group [(77.34±2.35)% vs.(82.31±1.48)%;(78.01±2.21)%vs.(83.86±2.37)%,t=4.001 6,4.036 7,both P < 0.01]. ② Neuronal morphology: Pathological changes in traumatic region and peripheral region of injury in the ketamine-treated group were significantly lessened, and necrotic and apoptotic cells in the ketamine-treated group were also significantly reduced as compared with control group. ③ AQP-4 expression: AQP-4 positive neurons at each time point in the ketamine-treated group were significantly less than those in the control group. There were very significant differences in AQP-4 expression at 12 and 24 hours after injury between ketamine-treated group and control group [(34.17±4.74) /visual field vs. (43.42±5.65) /visual field;(40.83±3.17) /visual field vs. (58.88±6.23) /visual field,t =3.966 3,8.165 7, both P < 0.01]. ④ Neuronal apoptosis: TUNEL positive neurons at each time point in the ketamine-treated group were less than those in the control group. | 14 | A robust indium-organic framework with open tubular channels for efficient separation of acetylene显示文摘Considering the tremendous applications and purification requirement of acetylene(C_(2)H_(2)),seeking appropriate adsorbents with high capacity and selectivity is a vital task and remains an enduring challenge.Herein,we designed and synthesized a robust three-dimensional(3D)indium-organic framework([(Me)_(2)NH_(2)][In(L6)_(0.5)(IPA)_(0.5)]·DMA·2H_(2)O(In-L6-IPA,DMA=dimethylammonium,IPA=isopropyl alcohol))featuring two types of one-dimensional(1D)tubular channels.The activated In-L6-IPA displayed high loading for C_(2)H_(2)(104.4 cm^(3)·g^(-1),the second highest value among all reported indium-based metal-organic frameworks(MOFs))and simultaneously selective adsorption for C_(2)H_(2) over CO_(2),C_(2)H_(6),and ethylene(C_(2)H_(4))at 298 K under 100 kPa.Molecular modelling revealed that the porous wall of In-L6-IPA provides more and stronger multiple interactions for C_(2)H_(2) than CO_(2),C_(2)H_(6),and C_(2)H_(4) containing C–H···π,C–H···O,and O···πinteractions.Breakthrough experiments validated the actual separation ability for various ratios of binary C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4) and C_(2)H_(2)/CO_(2) mixtures as well as equimolar ternary C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)/CO_(2) and C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)/C_(2)H_(6) mixtures with excellent reusability. | Yong-Zhi Li Gang-Ding Wang Fan Xu Qing Yin Danyang Zhao Jiqiu Qi Yanwei Sui Lei Hou Yao-Yu Wang | 2024 | Nano Research2024,17,4: | 0 |
