| 1 | SHRIMP Age and Geochemistry of the Bikou Volcanic Terrane:Implications for Neoproterozoic Tectonics on the Northern Margin of the Yangtze Craton显示文摘The Bikou volcanic terrane is predominated by subalkaline tholeiitic lavas. Rock samples display lower initialratios of Sr and Nd, 0.701248-0.704413 and 0.511080-0.512341 respectively. 207pb and 208pb are significantly enriched inthe lavas. Most samples have positive εNd, which indicates that the magma was derived from EM-type mantle source,while a few samples with negative εNd indicate that there was contamination in the magma evolution. Magmadifferentiation is demonstrated by variations of LREE and LILE from depletion to enrichment. Additionally, normalizedREE patterns and trace elements showed that lavas from the Bikou volcanic terrane have similar characteristics to those ofbasalts in arc settings caused by subduction and collision. Analyses showed that the Bikou volcanic terrane is a volcanicarc. New evidence proved that the Hengdan Group, north of the Bikou arc, is a turbidite terrane filling a forearc basin.Consequently, the Bikou volcanic terrane and the Hengdan turbidite terrane construct an arc-basin system. | 2 | Functions and mechanisms of the CBL-CIPK signaling system in plant response to abiotic stress显示文摘To cope with environmental stimuli, plants have evolved precise regulatory mechanisms to perceive, transduce and respond to abiotic stresses that can negatively affect growth and development. The CBL-CIPK signaling system is a newly emerging plant-specific and Ca2+-dependent network mediating abiotic stress tolerance. CBLs may sense a Ca2+ signature triggered by abiotic stresses, and have specific interactions with novel CIPK-type kinases after binding Ca2+. The CBL/CIPK complexes may post-translationally phosphory-late downstream target proteins to regulate abiotic stress tolerance in a cell or tissue-specific manner. In some cases transcription factors are induced to activate stress-responsive genes that control adaptation reactions. The CBL-CIPK signaling system exhibits specificity, diversity and complexity. Meanwhile, cross talk also exists in the CBL-CIPK signaling. To date, significant progress has been made in the role of the CBL-CIPK signaling system in responding to salt, low K+ and to high pH, which will provide a fast and efficient method of molecular design breeding combined with the CBL/CIPK engineering of crop plants, for enhanced tolerance to abiotic stresses. | 5 | SIRT1 suppresses PMA and ionomycin-induced ICAM-1 expression in endothelial cells显示文摘Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) plays an important role in the recruitment of leukocytes to the endothelium, which causes inflammation and initiation of atherosclerosis. We have previously shown that endothelium-specific over-expression of class III deacetylase SIRT1 decreases atherosclerosis. We therefore addressed the hypothesis that SIRT1 suppresses ICAM-1 expression in the endothelial cells. Here, we found that expression of SIRT1 and ICAM-1 was significantly induced by PMA and ionomycin (PMA/Io) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Adenovirus-mediated over-expression of SIRT1 significantly inhibited PMA/Io-induced ICAM-1 expression in HUVECs. Knockdown of SIRT1 by RNA interference (RNAi) resulted in increased expression of ICAM-1 in HUVECs. Luciferase report assay showed that over-expression of SIRT1 suppressed ICAM-1 promoter activity both in basic and in PMA/Io-induced conditions. We further found that SIRT1 was involved in transcription complex binding on the ICAM-1 promoter by chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays. Furthermore, SIRT1 RNAi increased NF-κB p65 binding ability to the ICAM-1 promoter by ChIP assays. | 6 | Sequential fate-switches in stem-like cells drive the tumorigenic trajectory from human neural stem cells to malignant glioma显示文摘Glioblastoma(GBM)is an incurable and highly heterogeneous brain tumor,originating from human neural stem/progenitor cells(hNSCs/hNPCs)years ahead of diagnosis.Despite extensive efforts to characterize hNSCs and end-stage GBM at bulk and single-cell levels,the de novo gliomagenic path from hNSCs is largely unknown due to technical difficulties in early-stage sampling and preclinical modeling.Here,we established two highly penetrant hNSC-derived malignant glioma models,which resemble the histopathology and transcriptional heterogeneity of human GBM.Integrating time-series analyses of whole-exome sequencing,bulk and single-cell RNA-seq,we reconstructed gliomagenic trajectories,and identified a persistent NSC-like population at all stages of tumorigenesis.Through trajectory analyses and lineage tracing,we showed that tumor progression is primarily driven by multi-step transcriptional reprogramming and fate-switches in the NSC-like cells,which sequentially generate malignant heterogeneity and induce tumor phenotype transitions.We further uncovered stage-specific oncogenic cascades,and among the candidate genes we functionally validated C1QL1 as a new glioma-promoting factor.Importantly,the neurogenic-to-gliogenic switch in NSC-like cells marks an early stage characterized by a burst of oncogenic alterations,during which transient AP-1 inhibition is sufficient to inhibit gliomagenesis.Together,our results reveal previously undercharacterized molecular dynamics and fate choices driving de novo gliomagenesis from hNSCs,and provide a blueprint for potential early-stage treatment/diagnosis for GBM. | Xiaofei Wang Ran Zhou Yanzhen Xiong Lingling Zhou Xiang Yan Manli Wang Fan Li Chuanxing Xie Yiming Zhang Zongyao Huang Chaoqiong Ding Kaidou Shi Weida Li Yu Liu Zhongwei Cao Zhen-Ning Zhang Shengtao Zhou Chong Chen Yan Zhang Lu Chen Yuan Wang | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,6: | 8 |
| 7 | Modulating the photoelectrons of g-C3N4 via coupling MgTi2O5 as appropriate platform for visible-light-driven photocatalytic solar energy conversion显示文摘Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has become an attractive visible-light-responsive photocatalyst because of its semiconductor polymer compositions and easy-modulated band structure. However, the bulk g-C3N4 photocatalyst has the low separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and unsatisfied surface catalytic performance, which leads to poor photocatalytic performance. As for this, MgTi2O5 with high chemical stability, wide band gap and negative conduction band was used as a suitable platform for coupling with g-C3N4 to enhance charge separation and promoted the photoactivity. Different from common approaches, here, we propose an innovative method to construct g-C3N4/MgTi2O5 nanocomposites featuring “0 + 1 >1' magnification effect to improve g-C3N4 photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. Additionally, compositing metal oxides of MgTi2O5 with g-C3N4 has proven to be a proper strategy to accelerate surface catalytic reactions in g-C3N4, and the photoinduced carriers were modulated to maintain thermodynamic equilibrium, which convincingly promotes the photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposites was measured by hydrogen production and CO2 reduction under visible light. The developed g-C3N4/MgTi2O5 nanocomposites with a 5 wt.% MgTi2O5 exhibits the highest H2 and CO yield under visible light and excellent stability compare to the other MgTi2O5 contents in composites. According to surface photo-voltage spectra, electrochemical CO2 reduction, photoluminescence, etc. The superior performance can be related to an enhanced electron lifetime, the promoted charge transfer and the increased electronic separation property of g-C3N4. | 8 | Pulping performance of transgenic poplar with depressed Caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase显示文摘This paper evaluated pulping performance of 3-year-old field-grown transgenic poplar (Populus tremula × Populus alba). The transgenic poplar with anti-sense CCoAOMT had an about 13% decreased lignin content, in which a slight increment was found in S/G ratio. Chemical analysis showed that the transgenic poplar had significantly less benezene-ethanol extractive than that of control wood, but no significant differences were found in contents of ash, cold water extractive, hot water extractive, 1% NaOH extractive, holocellulose, pentosans and cellulose. Fiber assay demonstrated that down-regulation of CCoAOMT expression improved the fiber quality in transgenic poplar. | 9 | Stratified-structural hydrogel incorporated with magnesium-ion-modified black phosphorus nanosheets for promoting neuro-vascularized bone regeneration显示文摘Angiogenesis and neurogenesis play irreplaceable roles in bone repair.Although biomaterial implantation that mimics native skeletal tissue is extensively studied,the nerve-vascular network reconstruction is neglected in the design of biomaterials.Our goal here is to establish a periosteum-simulating bilayer hydrogel and explore the efficiency of bone repair via enhancement of angiogenesis and neurogenesis.In this contribution,we designed a bilayer hydrogel platform incorporated with magnesium-ion-modified black phosphorus(BP)nanosheets for promoting neuro-vascularized bone regeneration.Specifically,we incorporated magnesium-ion-modified black phosphorus(BP@Mg)nanosheets into gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA)hydrogel to prepare the upper hydrogel,whereas the bottom hydrogel was designed as a double-network hydrogel system,consisting of two interpenetrating polymer networks composed of GelMA,PEGDA,andβ-TCP nanocrystals.The magnesium ion modification process was developed to enhance BP nanosheet stability and provide a sustained release platform for bioactive ions.Our results demonstrated that the upper layer of hydrogel provided a bionic periosteal structure,which significantly facilitated angiogenesis via induction of endothelial cell migration and presented multiple advantages for the upregulation of nerve-related protein expression in neural stem cells(NSCs).Moreover,the bottom layer of the hydrogel significantly promoted bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)activity and osteogenic differentiation.We next employed the bilayer hydrogel structure to correct rat skull defects.Based on our radiological and histological examinations,the bilayer hydrogel scaffolds markedly enhanced early vascularization and neurogenesis,which prompted eventual bone regeneration and remodeling.Our current strategy paves way for designing nerve-vascular network biomaterials for bone regeneration. | Yan Xu Chao Xu Lei He Junjie Zhou Tianwu Chen Liu Ouyang Xiaodong Guo Yanzhen Qu Zhiqiang Luo Deyu Duan | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,10: | 5 |
| 10 | Abyssal Circulation in the Philippine Sea显示文摘The abyssal circulation in the Philippine Sea(PS)is investigated,with outputs from the Simple Ocean Data Assimilation version 2.2.4(SODA224).The deep-water currents in SODA224 are carefully evaluated,with sparse in situ observations in the North Pacific Ocean.In the upper deep layer(20003000 m)of the PS,a strong westward current,which originates from the Northeast Pacific Basin and enters the PS through the Yap-Mariana Junction,exists along 1114 N.This strong westward current bifurcates into two western boundary currents off the Philippines.The northward-flowing current flows out of the PS around 2021 N,whereas the southward-flowing current transports deep water from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere.In the lower deep layer(30004500 m),the inflow water first flows northward to the east of the Western Mariana Basin and then turns westward at approximately 18 N.The inflow water mainly enters the Philippine Basin(PB),with a small part turning southward to constitute a weak cyclonic circulation.The water entering the PB mainly merges into a strong southward western boundary current in the south-ern PB.In the bottom layer(below 4500 m),both the northeast and northwest PB show single cyclonic gyres,whereas the south PB shows a single anticyclonic gyre.Moreover,comparisons with the observations indicate the possible existence of a cyclonic sense of circulation over the Philippine Trench.The current study provides the implications for future observations,which are needed to fur-ther investigate the temporospatial variations of the abyssal circulation in the PS on multiple scales. | ZHAI Fangguo GU Yanzhen | 2020 | Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,2: | 5 |
| 11 | Timing and setting of Guan-jiagou conglomerate in South Qinling and their tectonic im-plications显示文摘Located in the southern Qinling Mountains of central China, the Guanjiagou Formation has been a con-troversial issue with regard to its depositional age and tec-tonic implications. Being comprised of an approximately 2050 m thick succession of texturally and compositionally immature, presumed marine turbiditic sandstones and con-glomerate, the Guanjiagou Formation consists of an overall prograding- and coarsening-upward megasequence. Al-though bounded by faults on both its northern and southern margins, it is weakly metamorphosed and deformed. To the north is the Devonian Sanhekou Group and to the south is the Neoproterozoic Hengdan Group. The lower portion of the sequence contains granitic and volcanic clasts (Guanjiagou conglomerate). The feldspars from these clasts were dated using the 40Ar/39Ar method. Two cooling ages of 219.690.49 and 216.460.59 Ma, for K-feldspar from a granitic clast and plagioclase from a volcanic clast, respectively, were obtained. These ages are identical to the time of regional igneous ac-tivities (ca. 240—220 Ma) and are interpreted as the prod-ucts of magmatism associated with collision in the Qinling orogenic belt in the Early Mesozoic, suggesting that the Guanjiagou Formation was deposited in the Norian of the Late Triassic, ca. 220 Ma. | 14 | Influence of acupuncture with exercise training on learning and memory functions, as well as microtubule-associated protein-2 and synaptophysin expression in the hippocampal CA3 region, in a rat model of cerebral infarction显示文摘The present study was designed to determine microtubule-associated protein-2 and synaptophysin expression in the hippocampal CA3 region in a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion. The rats were treated with acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Qubin (GB 7), and Qianding (GV 21) points, in addition to exercise training. Results were compared with rats undergoing exercise training only. The Y-maze method and immunohistochemistry revealed decreased error frequency of passing through Y-maze, as well as significantly increased microtubule-associated protein-2 and synaptophysin expression, in the acupuncture with exercise training group compared with the model and exercise training groups after 5 weeks. Microtubule-associated protein-2 and synaptophysin expressions negatively correlated with error frequency of passing through the Y-maze. These results suggested that acupuncture combined with exercise training improved learning and memory functions in a rat model of cerebral infarction. | 15 | A reignited debate over the cell(s) of origin for glioblastoma and its clinical implications显示文摘Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and lethal primary neoplasm in the central nervous system. Despite intensive treatment, the prognosis for patients with GBM remains poor, with a median survival of 14-16 months. 90% of GBMs are primary GBMs that are full-blown at diagnosis without evidences of a pre-existing lessmalignant precursor lesion. Therefore, identification of the cell(s) of origin for GBM-the normal cell or cell type that acquires the initial GBM-promoting genetic hit(s)-is the key to the understanding of the disease etiology and the development of novel therapies. Neural stem cells and oligodendrocyte precursor cells are the two major candidates for the cell(s) of origin for GBM. | 18 | Climatology and seasonal variability of satellite-derived chlorophyll a around the Shandong Peninsula显示文摘The chlorophyll a(Chl a)is an important indicator of marine ecosystems.The spatiotemporal variation of the Chl a greatly aff ects the mariculture and marine ranching in coastal waters of the Shandong Peninsula.In the current study,the climatology and seasonal variability of surface Chl-a concentration around the Shandong Peninsula are investigated based on 16 years(December 2002-November 2018)of satellite observations.The results indicate that the annual mean Chl-a concentration is greater in the Bohai Sea than in the Yellow Sea and decreases from coastal waters to off shore waters.The highest Chl-a concentrations are found in Laizhou Bay(4.2-8.0 mg/m^(3)),Haizhou Bay(4.2-5.9 mg/m^(3))and the northeast coast of the Shandong Peninsula(4.4-5.0 mg/m^(3)),resulting from the combined eff ects of the intense riverine input and long residence time caused by the concave shape of the coastline.The seasonal Chl-a concentration shows a significant spatial variation.The Chl-a concentrations in these three subregions generally exhibit an annual maximum in August/September,due to the combined eff ects of sea surface temperature,river discharge and sea surface wind.In the southeast coast region,however,the Chl-a concentration is lowest throughout the year and reaches a maximum in February with a minimum in July,forced by the seasonal evolution of the Yellow Sea Cold Water and monsoon winds.The interannual Chl-a concentration trends vary among regions and seasons.There are significant increasing trends over a large area around Haizhou Bay from winter to summer,which are mainly caused by the rising sea surface temperature and eutrophication.In other coastal areas,the Chl-a concentration shows decreasing trends,which are clearest in summer and induced by the weakening land rainfall.This study highlights the differences in the Chl-a dynamics among regions around the Shandong Peninsula and is helpful for further studies of coupled physical-ecological-human interactions at multiple scales. | Xiukai SONG Yanzhen GU Fangguo ZHAI Peiliang LI Pengxia LIU Zizhou LIU Wenfan WU Yaozu CHEN Xiangyang JIANG Jianlong HE | 2021 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,4: | 3 |
