| 1 | Non-timber forest products and their contribution to households income around Falgore Game Reserve in Kano, Nigeria显示文摘Introduction:In the recent decades,there has been growing interest in the contribution of non-timber forest products(NTFPs)to livelihoods,development,and poverty alleviation among the rural populace.This has been prompted by the fact that communities living adjacent to forest reserves rely to a great extent on the NTFPs for their livelihoods,and therefore any effort to conserve such resources should as a prerequisite understand how the host communities interact with them.Methods:Multistage sampling technique was used for the study.A representative sample of 400 households was used to explore the utilization of NTFPs and their contribution to households’income in communities proximate to Falgore Game Reserve(FGR)in Kano State,Nigeria.Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze and summarize the data collected.Results:The findings reveal that communities proximate to FGR mostly rely on the reserve for firewood,medicinal herbs,fodder,and fruit nuts for household use and sales.Income from NTFPs accounts for 20–60%of the total income of most(68%)of the sampled households.The utilization of NTFPs was significantly influenced by age,sex,household size,main occupation,distance to forest and market.Conclusions:The findings suggest that NTFPs play an important role in supporting livelihoods,and therefore provide an important safety net for households throughout the year particularly during periods of hardship occasioned by drought.It is suggested that stakeholders should prioritize technical and financial support programs on agricultural value addition and handcrafts that would promote off-farm income generating activities,in addition,provision of alternative domestic cooking energy such as biogas in communities proximate to FGR in order to reduce pressure relating to fuelwood gathering from the forest,this will help to improve forest resources quality. | Muhammad Sabiu Suleiman Vivian Oliver Wasonga Judith Syombua Mbau Aminu Suleiman Yazan Ahmed Elhadi | 2017 | Ecological Processes2017，6，1： | 5 |

| 3 | Comparison of treatment modalities in pancreatic pseudocyst: A population based study显示文摘BACKGROUND Current therapeutic techniques for pancreatic pseudocyst include surgical management with a laparoscopic approach or an open surgical procedure,percutaneous catheter drainage and endoscopic drainage.Yet it remains controversial whether different treatment approaches affect inpatient outcome.AIM To investigate inpatient outcome of different treatment approaches in treating pancreatic pseudocyst.METHODS Here we conducted a retrospective analysis of pancreatic pseudocyst-associated hospitalizations using the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project-Nationwide Inpatient Sample.International Classification of Diseases 10 clinical modification and procedure codes are used.RESULTS A total of 7060 patients meeting the above criteria were identified.Our study revealed laparoscopic approach associated with the lowest rate of red blood cell transfusion(P<0.001),and it had lower short-term complications including acute renal failure(P=0.01),urinary tract infection(P=0.01),sepsis(P<0.001)and acute respiratory failure(P=0.01).Laparoscopic surgical approach associated with the shortest mean length of stay(P=0.009),and it had the lowest total charge(P=0.03).All three modalities have similar inpatient mortality(P=0.28).The study also revealed that percutaneous drainage associated with more emergent admission(P<0.001),rural hospital performs the most open surgical drainage(P<0.001)and patients who received laparoscopic drainage are more likely to be discharged home(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Laparoscopic drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts associated with the least shortterm complications and had better outcomes comparing to percutaneous and open surgical drainage from 2016 National Inpatient Sample database. | Yanting Wang Yazan Abu Omar Rohit Agrawal Zimu Gong | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2019，11，9： | 4 |
| 4 | Prognostic value of pre-treatment F-18-FDG PET-CT in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing radioembolization显示文摘AIM To evaluate the value of pre-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT in patients with HCC following liver radioembolization.METHODS We identified 34 patients with HCC who underwent an FDG PET/CT scan prior to hepatic radioembolization at our institution between 2009 and 2013. Patients wereseen in clinic one month after radioembolization and then at 2-3 mo intervals. We assessed the influence of FDG tumor uptake on outcomes including local liver control(LLC), distant liver control(DLC), time to distant metastases(DM), progression free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS).RESULTS The majority of patients were males(n = 25, 74%), and had Child Pugh Class A(n = 31, 91%), with a median age of 68 years(46-84 years). FDG-avid disease was found in 19(56%) patients with SUVmax ranging from 3 to 20. Female patients were more likely to have an FDG-avid HCC(P = 0.02). Median follow up of patients following radioembolization was 12 months(1.2-62.8 mo). FDG-avid disease was associated with a decreased 1 year LLC, DLC, DM and PFS(P < 0.05). Using multivariate analysis, FDG avidity predicted for LLC, DLC, and PFS(all P < 0.05).CONCLUSION In this retrospective study, pre-treatment HCC FDGavidity was found to be associated with worse LLC, DLC, and PFS following radioembolization.
