| 1 | Widening and weakening of the Hadley circulation under global warming显示文摘The Hadley circulation is one of the most important atmospheric circulations.Widening of the Hadley circulation has drawn extensive studies in the past decade.The key concern is that widening of the Hadley circulation would cause poleward shift of the subtropical dry zone.Various metrics have been applied to measure the widening of the tropics.What are responsible for the observed widening trends of the Hadley circulation? How anthropogenic and natural forcings caused the widening? How the widening results in regional climatic effects? These are the major questions in studing the widening of the Hadley circulation.While both observations and simulations all show widening of the Hadley circulation in the past few decades,there are no general agreements of changes in the strength of the Hadley circulation.Although some reanalysis datasets show strengthening of the Hadley circulation,it was shown that the strengthening trend could be artificial,and simulations show weakening of the Hadley circulation for global greenhouse warming.In the present paper,we shall briefly review the major progresses of studies in trends in width and strength of the Hadley circulation.We address answers to these questions,clarify inconsistent results,and propose ideas for future studies. | Yongyun Hu Han Huang Chen Zhou | 2018 | Science Bulletin2018,63,10: | 7 |
| 2 | Review of Chinese atmospheric science research over the past 70 years: Synoptic meteorology显示文摘Synoptic meteorology is a branch of meteorology that uses synoptic weather observations and charts for the diagnosis,study,and forecasting of weather.Weather refers to the specific state of the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface during a short period of time.The spatial distribution of meteorological elements in the atmosphere can be represented by a variety of transient weather phenomena,which are caused by weather systems of different spatial and temporal scales.Weather is closely related to people’s life,and its development and evolution have always been the focus of atmospheric scientific research and operation.The development of synoptic meteorology is closely related to the development of observation systems,dynamical theories and numerical models.In China,observation networks have been built since the early 1950 s.Up to now,a comprehensive meteorological observation systembased on ground,air and space has been established.In particular,the development of a new generation of dense radar networks,the development of the Fengyun satellite series and the implementation of a series of large field experiments have brought our understanding of weather from large-scale environment to thermal dynamics,cloud microphysical structure and evolution characteristics of meso and micro-scale weather systems.The development of observation has also promoted the development of theory,numerical model and simulation.In the early days,China mainly used foreign numerical models.Lately,China has developed numerical model systems with independent intellectual property rights.Based on the results of high-resolution numerical simulations,in-depth understanding of the initiation and evolution mechanism and predictability of weather at different scales has been obtained.Synoptic meteorology has gradually changed from an initially independent development to a multidisciplinary approach,and the interaction between weather and the change of climate and environment has become a hot and frontier topic in atmospheric science.This paper reviews the important scientific and technological achievements made in China over the past 70 years in the fields of synoptic meteorology based on the literatures in China and abroad,from six aspects respectively including atmospheric dynamics,synoptic-scale weather,typhoon and tropical weather,severe convective weather,numerical weather prediction and data assimilation,weather and climate,atmospheric physics and atmospheric environment. | Zhiyong MENG Fuqing ZHANG Dehai LUO Zhemin TAN Juan FANG Jianhua SUN Xueshun SHEN Yunji ZHANG Shuguang WANG Wei HAN Kun ZHAO Lei ZHU Yongyun HU Huiwen XUE Yaping MA Lijuan ZHANG Ji NIE Ruilin ZHOU Sa LI Hongjun LIU Yuning ZHU | 2019 | Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12: | 7 |
| 3 | Interferon-γ Expression in Natural Killer Cells and Natural Killer T Cells Is Suppressed in Early Pregnancy显示文摘Recent study has suggested that innate immune system might play an important role in pregnancy progression. In this study,to investigate whether NK cells and NKT cells,instead of T cells,are the dominant populations of peripheral blood in early pregnancy,flow cytometry was used to detect the percentage and intracellular cytokine expressions of T cells,NK cells,NKT cells in peripheral blood of non-pregnant women and early pregnant women. In our result,the percentages of NK cells and NKT cells were significantly increased in pregnancy compared to non-pregnancy. However,the percentage of T cells was not changed. We did not detect the Th2-dominance of total lymphocytes or T cells in peripheral blood of early pregnant women and there were also no significant changes of type 1 and type 2 cytokines in T cells,but IFN-γ production in both NK and NKT cells was decreased in early pregnancy. These results suggest that the innate immune system including NK cells and NKT cells should play a pivotal role in pregnancy progression. | 7 | Atmospheric HONO formation during and after the Spring Festival holidays in a coastal city of China显示文摘Nitrous acid(HONO)is an important source of hydrogen oxides(HOx),which affects air quality,the atmospheric oxidation capacity,and human health.Here,we present ambient measurements of the HONO concentrations in Zhuhai,a coastal city in Southern China,from February 7 to March 15,2021.The campaign was classified into two periods during(P1)and after(P2)the Spring Festival holidays.The average HONO mixing ratio during P2(1.19±0.85 ppbv)was much higher than that during P1(0.24±0.18 ppbv),likely due to the contribution of homogeneous HONO formation.During nighttime,the heterogeneous conversion rate during P2(0.0089/hr)was considerably higher than that during P1(0.0057/hr),suggesting a higher heterogeneous NO_(2) conversion potential.However,the heterogeneous NO_(2) conversion was the dominant way during P1 with a high percentage of 88%,while comparable ratios of heterogeneous and homogeneous formation were found(54%vs.46%)during P2,indicating that the homogeneous formation was also important during P2.During daytime,homogeneous reaction was the major known pathway,with a contribution of 16%during P1 and 27%during P2,leaving large unknown HONO sources which reasonably correlated with the photo-enhanced NO_(2) conversion.Two case scenarios were additionally explored,showing that there might be a primary emission source during one scenario(February 17-18)and vehicle emissions might be the major unknown HONO source for another scenario(March 3–5).The results suggest that large unknown daytime sources still exist which need more future ambient and laboratory studies. | Xue Ni Cuizhi Sun Yongyun Zhang Baoling Liang Shengzhen Zhou Guangdong Lan Jun Zhao | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,5: | 0 |
