6The hidden risk of microplastic-associated pathogens in aquatic environments显示文摘Increasing studies of plastisphere have raised public concern about microplastics(MPs)as vectors for pathogens,especially in aquatic environments.However,the extent to which pathogens affect human health through MPs remains unclear,as controversies persist regarding the distinct pathogen colonization on MPs as well as the transmission routes and infection probability of MP-associated pathogens from water to humans.In this review,we critically discuss whether and how pathogens approach humans via MPs,shedding light on the potential health risks involved.Drawing on cutting-edge multidisciplinary research,we show that some MPs may facilitate the growth and long-range transmission of specific pathogens in aquatic environments,ultimately increasing the risk of infection in humans.We identify MP-and pathogen-rich settings,such as wastewater treatment plants,aquaculture farms,and swimming pools,as possible sites for human exposure to MP-associated pathogens.This review emphasizes the need for further research and targeted interventions to better understand and mitigate the potential health risks associated with MP-mediated pathogen transmission.Huan Zhong Mengjie Wu Christian Sonne Su Shiung Lam Raymond W.M.Kwong Yuelu Jiang Xiaoli Zhao Xuemei Sun Xuxiang Zhang Chengjun Li Yuanyuan Li Guangbo Qu Feng Jiang Huahong Shi Rong Ji Hongqiang Ren 2023Eco-Environment & Health2023,2,3:0

8A ferroptosis-inducing iridium(III) complex显示文摘Ferroptosis is a recently emerging non-apoptotic mode of cell death involving the production of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species(ROS).Here we described a mitochondria-targeted iridium(III)complex Ir FN that exhibited potent antiproliferative activity against a variety of cancer cells,especially the A2780 human ovarian cancer cells,through the ferroptosis pathways.Mechanistic studies by label-free quantitative proteomics profiling indicated that heme oxygenase 1(HMOX1)-mediated ferroptosis process was activated by Ir FN.The study on iron-dependent cell death,ROS accumulation,lipid peroxidation,and over released iron further confirmed the ferroptosis processes.m RNA transcription quantification,in vitro over-expression of HMOX1,and RNAi-mediated knock-down experiments suggested that Ir FN activated the over-expression of HMOX1.Our report revealed the first case of anticancer iridium complex leading to ferroptosis,highlighting ferroptosis as a promising approach in future design of metallodrugs.Xiuxiu Wang Feng Chen Jingyi Zhang Jianxuan Sun Xinyang Zhao Yuelu Zhu Wei Wei Jing Zhao Zijian Guo 2020Science China Chemistry2020,63,1:0
9Clinicopathological practice in the differential diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma from neoplasms with mucinous component显示文摘Background:The differential diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma(MEC)from neoplasm undergoing mucinous features brings more pitfalls to pathologists.Combining specific MAML2 gene rearrangement and histological characteristics may be the solution.Methods:Twenty-five tumors with mucinous components were selected for differential diagnosis of MEC.All the cases were detected for MAML2 gene rearrangement.The cases diagnosed as MEC were classified into four variants:classic,oncocytic,Warthin-like,and nonclassified,and they were graded using the Brandwein system.The histological characteristics of non-MECs were summarized for differential diagnosis.Univariate survival analysis was performed on MECs.Results:There were 16 MECs;62.5%were MAML2 rearranged.For the low-,intermediate-,and high-grade MECs,the rate of rearrangement was 83.3%,100%,and 28.6%,respectively.Both the oncocytic and Warthinlike MECs were MAML2 rearranged.For the classic and nonclassified MECs without MAML2 rearrangement,non-keratinized squamoid cells and distinctive mucinous cells were essential diagnostic criteria.On survival analysis,all the disease progression occurred in high-grade MECs(p=0.038).Nine cases were diagnosed as non-MECs:pleomorphic adenoma with mucinous metaplasia showed no ex-capsular involvement;metaplastic Warthin tumor appeared with overt keratinization and residual oncocytic bilayered epithelium;mix squamous cell and glandular papilloma showed an endobronchial papillary growing pattern;adenosquamous carcinoma was accompanied by squamous carcinoma in situ of the overlying mucosa.All the non-MECs were negative for MAML2 rearrangement.Conclusion:The application of combining MAML2 rearrangement and histological characteristics is helpful in the differential diagnosis between MEC and other tumors with mucinous components.Yuelu Zhu Yan Li Lei Guo Wenbin Li Jiali Mu Haifeng Zhang Xin Li Jianming Ying Haizhen Lu 2023Chronic Diseases and Translational Medicine2023,9,1:0
