| 1 | Microfluidic actuators based on temperature-responsive hydrogels显示文摘The concept of using stimuli-responsive hydrogels to actuate fluids in microfluidic devices is particularly attractive,but limitations,in terms of spatial resolution,speed,reliability and integration,have hindered its development during the past two decades.By patterning and grafting poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)PNIPAM hydrogel films on plane substrates with a 2μm horizontal resolution and closing the system afterward,we have succeeded in unblocking bottlenecks that thermo-sensitive hydrogel technology has been challenged with until now.In this paper,we demonstrate,for the first time with this technology,devices with up to 7800 actuated micro-cages that sequester and release solutes,along with valves actuated individually with closing and opening switching times of 0.6±0.1 and 0.25±0.15 s,respectively.Two applications of this technology are illustrated in the domain of single cell handling and the nuclear acid amplification test(NAAT)for the Human Synaptojanin 1 gene,which is suspected to be involved in several neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.The performance of the temperature-responsive hydrogels we demonstrate here suggests that in association with their moderate costs,hydrogels may represent an alternative to the actuation or handling techniques currently used in microfluidics,that are,pressure actuated polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)valves and droplets. | Loïc D'Eramo Benjamin Chollet Marie Leman Ekkachai Martwong Mengxing Li Hubert Geisler Jules Dupire Margaux Kerdraon Clémence Vergne Fabrice Monti Yvette Tran Patrick Tabeling | 2018 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2018,4,1: | 3 |

| 9 | Identification of Empirical Models for the Prediction of the Plasticity Index:Case of the KhôDepression in South Benin显示文摘The plasticity index is an essential design parameter used as a standard input in fine-grained soil investigation programs.It is used to estimate the plasticity and physical properties of soils,and indirectly their strength properties.This index is determined from the Atterberg limit tests,starting from the limits of liquidity and plasticity.However,the realization of the test considered as basic and simple,is not so much.The effects of the operator,the calibration of the apparatus and the environmental aspects during the tests affect the reliability and accuracy of the results.In this paper,the objective is to overcome these difficulties by evaluating the plasticity index of clay and loam soils by considering only the values of the liquid limit.Soil samples were collected from 0 to 5 m depth in the localities of the Khôdepression in Benin.On these samples,Atterberg limit tests were performed in the laboratory.Using MATLAB’s Curve Fitting Toolbox,linear,exponential and power prediction models were analyzed.The results showed that there is indeed a good correlation between the plasticity index and the liquid limit of the soils.For the linear model,it was observed R2 equal to 0.9891.For the exponential model,R2 is 0.98871 and for the power model 0.9802.A study of the residual plot validated the models found,as well as comparisons with well-known literature sources.Through the equations obtained,it is now possible to study the plasticity of soils in the Khôdepression only from the liquid limit,without determining the plasticity limit. | Koffi Judicaël AGBELELE Yvette Sèdjro TANKPINOU KIKI Abalo P’KLA Gbênihon Céleste-Amour KENOUKON | 2022 | 材料科学与工程(中英文A版)2022,12,2: | 0 |
| 10 | Colectomy is a risk factor for venous thromboembolism in ulcerative colitis显示文摘AIM: To compare venous thromboembolism(VTE) in hospitalized ulcerative colitis(UC) patients who respond to medical management to patients requiring colectomy. METHODS: Population-based surveillance from 1997 to 2009 was used to identify all adults admitted to hospital for a flare of UC and those patients who underwent colectomy. All medical charts were reviewed to confirm the diagnosis and extract clinically relevant information. UC patients were stratified by:(1) responsive to inpatient medical therapy(n = 382);(2) medically refractory requiring emergent colectomy(n = 309); and(3) elective colectomy(n = 329). The primary outcome was the development of VTE during hospitalization or within 6 mo of discharge. Heparin prophylaxis to prevent VTE was assessed. Logistic regression analysis determined the effect of disease course(i.e., responsive to medical therapy, medically refractory, and elective colectomy) on VTE after adjusting for confounders including age, sex, smoking, disease activity, comorbidities, extent of disease, and IBD medications(i.e., corticosteroids, mesalamine, azathioprine, and infliximab). Point estimates were presented as odds ratios(OR) with 95%CI.RESULTS: The prevalence of VTE among patients with UC who responded to medical therapy was 1.3% and only 16% of these patients received heparinprophylaxis. In contrast, VTE was higher among patients who underwent an emergent(8.7%) and elective(4.9%) colectomy, despite greater than 90% of patients receiving postoperative heparin prophylaxis. The most common site of VTE was intra-abdominal(45.8%) followed by lower extremity(19.6%). VTE was diagnosed after discharge from hospital in 16.7% of cases. Elective(adjusted OR = 3.69; 95%CI: 1.30-10.44) and emergent colectomy(adjusted OR = 5.28; 95%CI: 1.93-14.45) were significant risk factors for VTE as compared to medically responsive UC patients. Furthermore, the odds of a VTE significantly increased across time(adjusted OR = 1.10; 95%CI: 1.01-1.20). Age, sex, comorbidities, disease extent, disease activity, smoking, corticosteroids, mesalamine, azathioprine, and infliximab were not independently associated with the development of VTE. CONCLUSION: VTE was associated with colectomy, particularly, among UC patients who failed medical management.
