| 1 | Linking atmospheric pollution to cryospheric change in the Third Pole region: current progress and future prospects显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings are known as the Third Pole(TP). This region is noted for its high rates of glacier melt and the associated hydrological shifts that affect water supplies in Asia. Atmospheric pollutants contribute to climatic and cryospheric changes through their effects on solar radiation and the albedos of snow and ice surfaces; moreover, the behavior and fates within the cryosphere and environmental impacts of environmental pollutants are topics of increasing concern. In this review, we introduce a coordinated monitoring and research framework and network to link atmospheric pollution and cryospheric changes(APCC) within the TP region. We then provide an up-to-date summary of progress and achievements related to the APCC research framework, including aspects of atmospheric pollution’s composition and concentration, spatial and temporal variations, trans-boundary transport pathways and mechanisms, and effects on the warming of atmosphere and changing in Indian monsoon, as well as melting of glacier and snow cover. We highlight that exogenous air pollutants can enter into the TP’s environments and cause great impacts on regional climatic and environmental changes. At last, we propose future research priorities and map out an extended program at the global scale. | 2 | Effects of gaps on regeneration of woody plants: a meta-analysis显示文摘Forest gaps, openings in the canopy caused by death of one or more trees, have a profound effect on forest regeneration and drive the forest growth cycle. It is therefore necessary to understand the effects of forest gaps on regeneration for modern forest management. In order to provide a quantitative assessment of the effects of forest gaps on regeneration of woody plants, we conducted this review of gap effects on woody plant regeneration on the basis of 527 observations from 42 individual papers, and reported the results of these data in a meta-analysis. Overall, densities of regenerated woody plants were significantly greater(359%) in forest gaps than on the closed-canopy forest floor. The regeneration density in gaps of plantation forests was significantly greater(P < 0.05) than that of natural forest because the regeneration in gaps of plantation forests was improved by both gap effects and experimental measures. Similarly, in comparison to natural gaps, regeneration was better enhanced in artificial gaps. Regeneration density exhibited a significantly positive correlation with gap size, but a negative correlation with gap age because the gap size decreased with increasing gap age. Shade tolerance of woody plants affected regeneration density in gaps and understory. Average regeneration density of shade-tolerant species exhibited a significantly positive response to gaps but densities remained lower in total than those of intermediate and shade-intolerant species. Gap effects on regeneration decreased in response to increasing temperature and precipitation because of the limiting effects of lower temperature and moisture on woody plant regeneration. In summary, forest gaps enhance woody plant regeneration, and the effects of gaps varied by forest type, gap characteristics, environmental factors and plant traits. | 4 | Finding of high-pressure mafic granulites in the Amdo basement,central Tibet显示文摘High-pressure mafic granulites with a peak mineral assemblage of garnet + clinopyroxene + rutile + quartz were found in the Amdo basement,central Tibet. Two kinds of symplectites were identified that are composed of orthopyroxene + plagioclase ± spinel and hornblende + plagioclase around garnet,which were interpreted to develop during the retrogressing stages in the granulites. P-T estimates suggested that peak metamorphic conditions were about 860-920°C and 1.46-1.56 GPa,which retrogressed from post-peak phase at 820-890°C and 0.88-1.15 GPa to amphibolite facies at 550-670°C and 0.52-0.65 GPa. These three stages define a clockwise P-T path with near-isothermal decompression and cooling following the peak high-pressure metamorphism. This suggests that the Amdo granulites underwent an initial subduction to a deep crustal level of ~50 km and then were rapidly exhumed to a shallow crustal level (~20 km). | 6 | Mitochondrial DNA A1555G mutation screening using a testing kit method and its significance in preventing aminoglycoside-related hearing loss显示文摘To report a new screening method for mitochondrial DNA 1555A→G mutation and the results of genotype analysis in 19 maternal inherited deafness pedigrees. Method Five hundred and forty-six non-syndromic neuro-sensory hearing loss patients were tested for 1555A→G mutation using a new compact testing kit, which allows clear distinction between wild type and 1555 A→G mutated mtDNAs. Results Nineteen subjects among the 546 patients (3.48%) were found to carry mtDNA A1555G mutation. The results were confirmed by sequencing in an ABI 3100 Avant sequencer. Conclusions Maternal inherited deafness families are a frequently seen in outpatient group. | 7 | Characteristics of the phytoplankton community and bioaccumulation of heavy metals during algal blooms in Xiangjiang River (Hunan,China)显示文摘The frequency of algal blooms has increased in the mid and downstream reaches of the Xiangjiang River (Hunan,China),one of the most heavily polluted rivers in China.We identified the bloom-forming species in a bloom that occurred mid-late September 2010.In addition,we determined the extent of metal bioaccumulation in the algae and measured the toxicity of the algae using a mouse bioassay.Water samples were collected at upstream (Yongzhou),midstream (Hengyang),and downstream (Zhuzhou,Xiangtan,and Changsha) sites.The dominant species was Aulacoseira granulata,formerly known as Melosira granulata.The heaviest bloom occurred at Xiangtan and Changsha,where the number of A.granulata peaked at 1.3×10 5 filaments L 1 and chlorophyll a at 0.04 mg L 1.Concentrations of Al,Fe,and Mn were 4.4 10 3,768.4,and 138.7 mg kg 1 dry weight in the phytoplankton.The bioaccumulation factor was 4.0×10 5,7.7×10 5,and 3.2×10 3,respectively.The heavy metal Pb had the greatest tendency to bioaccumulate among the highly toxic heavy metals,with a concentration of 19.2 mg kg 1 dry weight and bioaccumulation factor of 9.6×10 3.The mouse bioassay suggested the bloom was toxic.The LD 50 was 384 mg kg 1 and all surviving mice lost weight during the first 72 h after exposure.Our results demonstrate that blooms of A.granulata in rivers contaminated with heavy metals pose a threat to freshwater ecosystems and human health.Thus,measures should be taken to control eutrophication and heavy metal pollution in such rivers. | LI Jie PENG FuLi DING DongBo ZHANG ShuBing LI DeLiang ZHANG Ting | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10: | 6 |

| 9 | Numerical study on rainfall infiltration in rock-soil slop显示文摘A mathematical model for the rain infiltration in the rock-soil slop has been established and solved by using the finite element method. The unsteady water infiltrating process has been simulated to get water content both in the homogeneous and heterogeneous media. The simulated results show that the rock blocks in the rock-soil slop can cause the wetting front moving fast. If the rain intensity is increased, the saturated region will be formed quickly while other conditions are the same. If the rain intensity keeps a constant, it is possible to accelerate the generation of the saturated region by properly increasing the vertical filtration rate of the rock-soil slop. However, if the vertical filtration rate is so far greater than the rain intensity, it will be difficult to form the saturated region in the rock-soil slop. | 11 | Effects of arrangement of surge-root irrigation emitters on growth,yield and water use efficiency of apple trees显示文摘Six-year old apple trees were selected for field experiment.The objective of this study was to obtain the reasonable arrangement of surge-root irrigation emitters in apple orchards.There were three factors:the buried depth H(25,40,55 cm),the horizontal distance L(30,40,60 cm)between the emitters and the trunk of the experimental tree,and the number of the irrigation emitters N(1,2,4).The effect of the arrangement of surge-root irrigation emitters on the growth,yield and irrigation water use efficiency(IWUE)of apple trees were studied in Northern Shaanxi where the irrigation quota takes 60%-75%of the field water capacity.The results showed that the arrangement of emitters for surge-root irrigation had a significant effect on apple tree yield and IWUE,especially,the yield and IWUE reached 28388.17 kg/hm2 and 16.83 kg/m3 in treatment T3,respectively.At the same L and N levels(T1,T2,and T3),the yield and IWUE in treatment T3 were the highest,and the yields in treatments T1 and T2 were decreased by 26.22%and 31.48%,while IWUE is reduced by14.02%and 18.12%compared with T3,respectively.At the same H and N levels(T3,T4,and T5),the yield and IWUE of apple trees were decreased with increasing L level.Especially,when L was 30 cm(T3),the yield and IWUE were the highest.The same L and H levels(T3,T6,and T7)could promote the growth of apple trees when N was 2(T3).Compared with treatment T3,it was found that the increment of new shoots was decreased by 8.07%-18.71%,and the fruit diameter was decreased by 5.41%-9.11%.Therefore,two emitters should be arranged symmetrically on both sides of an apple tree,each was buried at a 40 cm depth and 30 cm away from the trunk of the tree to effectively improve the yield and IWUE of the apple tree in mountainous areas in Northern Shaanxi. | LI Zhongjie FEI Liangjun HAO Kun LIU Teng CHEN Nanshu ZHANG Quanju HUANG Deliang | 2020 | 排灌机械工程学报2020,38,7: | 4 |

| 14 | Climate change induced eutrophication of cold-water lake in an ecologically fragile nature reserve显示文摘Aquatic ecosystem sustainability around the globe is facing crucial challenges because of increasing anthropogenic and natural disturbances. In this study, the Tianchi Lake, a typical cold-water lake and a UNESCO/MAB(Man and Biosphere) nature reserve located in high latitude and elevation with the relatively low intensity of human activity was chosen as a system to examine the linkages between climate change and eutrophication. As a part of the UNESCO Bogda Man and Biosphere Reserve, Tianchi Lake has been well preserved for prevention from human intervention, but why has it been infected with eutrophication recent years? Our results show that climate change played a significant role in the eutrophication in the Tianchi Lake. Increased temperature, changed precipitation pattern and wind-induced hydrodynamic fluctuations in the summer season were suggested to make a major contribution to the accelerated eutrophication. The results also showed that the local temperature and precipitation changes were closely linked to the large-scale atmospheric circulation, which opens the door for the method to be applied in other regions without local climatic information. | 17 | Exposure of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) to environmentally relevant levels of cadmium:hematology,muscle physiology,and implications for stock enhancement in the Xiangjiang River (Hunan,China)显示文摘Cadmium is a non-essential metal with a wide distribution that has severe toxic effects on aquatic animals. Changes in hematology and muscle physiology were examined in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) exposed to environmentally relevant levels of cadmium (0.01 mg L-1 ) for 96 h. Cadmium exposure induced significant increases in the red blood cell count, and in the plasma concentrations of cortisol, glucose, and lactate. This suggests that the dose of cadmium was sufficient to cause stress, possibly associated with impaired gas exchange at the gills. There were no changes in hemoglobin concentration or plasma protein concentration. Significant decreases in muscle energy fuels (ATP and glycogen), and increases in muscle lactate persisted until the end of the exposure period, respectively. The changes in muscle lactate and protein in silver carp differed from those observed in response to exposure of fish to cadmium and heavy metals in other studies. | 18 | Contrasting vegetation changes in dry and humid regions ofthe Tibetan Plateau over recent decades显示文摘An overall greening over the Tibetan Plateau(TP) in recent decades has been established through analyses of remotely sensed Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI), though the regional pattern of the changes and associated drivers remain to be explored. This study used a satellite Leaf Area Index(LAI) dataset(the GLASS LAI dataset) and examined vegetation changes in humid and arid regions of the TP during 1982–2012. Based on distributions of the major vegetation types, the TP was divided roughly into a humid southeastern region dominated by meadow and a dry northwestern region covered mainly by steppe. It was found that the dividing line between the two regions corresponded well with the lines of mean annual precipitation of 400 mm and the mean LAI of 0.3. LAI=0.3 was subsequently used as a threshold for investigating vegetation type changes at the interanual and decadal time scales: if LAI increased from less than 0.3 to greater than0.3 from one time period to the next, it was regarded as a change from steppe to meadow, and vice versa. The analysis shows that changes in vegetation types occurred primarily around the dividing line of the two regions, with clear growth(reduction) of the area covered by meadow(steppe), in consistency with the findings from using another independent satellite product. | 19 | Insulin-like growth factor 1-induced enolase 2 deacetylation by HDAC3 promotes metastasis of pancreatic cancer显示文摘Enolase 2(ENO2)is a key glycolytic enzyme in the metabolic process of glycolysis,but its potential function in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is unclear.In this study,we observed a significant overexpression of ENO2 in PDAC tissues,and its expression was correlated with metastasis and poor prognosis in PDAC patients.K394 was identified as a major acetylation site in ENO2 that regulates its enzymatic activity,cell metabolism and PDAC progression.Knockdown of ENO2 suppressed tumor growth and liver metastasis in PDAC.Re-expression of wild-type(WT)ENO2,but not the K394 acetylation mimetic mutant,could reverse the decreased tumor malignancy.We further characterized histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3)and P300/CBP-associated factor(PCAF)as the potential deacetylase and acetyltransferase for ENO2,respectively.HDAC3-mediated deacetylation was shown to lead to ENO2 activation and enhancement of glycolysis.Importantly,insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)was found to decrease K394 acetylation and stimulate ENO2 activity in a dose-and time-dependent manner.The PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway facilitated the phosphorylation of HDAC3 on S424,which promoted K394 deacetylation and activation of ENO2.Linsitinib,an oral small-molecule inhibitor of IGF-1R,could inhibit IGF-1-induced ENO2 deacetylation by HDAC3 and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.Furthermore,linsitinib showed a different effect on the growth and metastasis of PDAC depending on the overexpression of WT versus K394-mutant ENO2.Our results reveal a novel mechanism by which acetylation negatively regulates ENO2 activity in the metastasis of PDAC by modulating glycolysis.Blockade of IGF-1-induced ENO2 deacetylation represents a promising strategy to prevent the development of PDAC. | Yan Zheng Chao Wu Jimeng Yang Yue Zhao Huliang Jia Min Xue Da Xu Feng Yang Deliang Fu Chaoqun Wang Beiyuan Hu Ze Zhang Tianen Li Shican Yan Xuan Wang Peter J.Nelson Christiane Bruns Lunxiu Qin Qiongzhu Dong | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 3 |
| 20 | Os isotopic evidence for a carbonaceous chondritic mantle source for the Nagqu ophiolite from Tibet and its implications显示文摘Early-crystallizing chromian spinel(Cr-spinel) in the Nagqu ophiolite has high Os and low Re contents,and it is resistant to alteration during serpentinization,weathering and metamorphism.The chemical composition of primitive magma is preserved in Cr-spinel,which makes it suitable for determining the initial Os-isotope composition of the mantle source.This study presents Cr-spinel Os isotopes and zircon U-Pb ages for cumulate dunite and gabbro,respectively,in the same cumulate section of the ophiolite at Nagqu in Tibet.The results shed light on the formation and evolution of lithospheric mantle.The Nagqu ophiolite is located in the central part of the Bangong-Nujiang suture zone.It is a remnant of the Neotethyan oceanic crust,and contains cumulate dunite and gabbro.Zircon from the gabbro yielded a weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U age of 183.7±1 Ma.Cr-spinel exhibits Os values of 0.2 to 0.3,suggesting that the mantle source for the dunite is similar to that of carbonaceous chondrites.Thus,the Tibetan lithosphere is primarily a relic of Tethyan oceanic lithosphere,which has formed by the transformation of the normal asthenospheric mantle in the Mesozoic.This is the first study to combine the spinel Os isotopes with accurate zircon U-Pb ages to constrain the geochemical characteristics of the mantle source for the ophiolite. | HUANG QiShuai SHI RenDeng LIU DeLiang ZHANG XiaoRan FAN ShuaiQuan DING Lin | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,1: | 3 |
