| 1 | Eclogite-melt/peridotite reaction: Experimental constrains on the destruction mechanism of the North China Craton显示文摘To study the mechanism of melt-peridotite reaction pertinent to the destruction of the North China Craton (NCC) lithosphere, a series of experiments were performed at a pressure of 2.0 GPa and temperatures from 1250 to 1400°C using Bixiling eclogite and Damaping peridotite as starting materials. The experimental results show that the reaction between eclogite melt and peridotite causes dissolution of olivine and orthopyroxene and precipitation of clinopyroxene in the melt. The experimental run products, characterized by a lherzolite/pyroxenite/garnet-pyroxenite sequence, are consistent with the mantle xenoliths in the Neogene Hannuoba basalt of the NCC found by Liu et al. (2005). It suggests that the mafic lower continental crust was probably recycled into the mantle during the Mesozoic Era. In the experiments conducted at 1300 and 1350°C, the resulting melts have a high Mg# andesite signature, indicating that the melt-peridotite reaction may have played a major role in the generation of high Mg# andesite. Our experimental results support the hypothesis that melts derived from foundered eclogite in the asthenosphere will consume the lithospheric peridotites. | 2 | GIS-based Analysis for Hotspot Identification of Tradeoff Between Ecosystem Services: A Case Study in Yanhe Basin, China显示文摘Although the quantification and valuation of ecosystem services have been studied for a long time, few studies have specifically focused on the quantification of tradeoffs between ecosystem services and tradeoff hotspots. Based on previous studies of ecosystem service assessment, we proposed a feasible method to analyze the tradeoffs between ecosystem services, including determination of their relationship, quantification of tradeoffs, and identification of tradeoff hotspots. Potential influencing factors were then further analyzed. The Yanhe Basin in the Loess Plateau was selected as an example to demonstrate the application process. Firstly, the amounts of net primary production(NPP) and water yield(WY) in 2000 and 2008 were estimated by using biophysical models. Secondly, correlation analysis was used to indicate the tradeoffs between NPP and WY. Thirdly, tradeoff index(TI_(NPP/WY)) was established to quantify the extent of tradeoffs between NPP and WY, and the average value of TI_(NPP/WY) is 24.4 g/(mm·m^2) for the Yanhe Basin between 2000 and 2008. Finally, the tradeoff hotspots were identified. The results indicated that the area of lowest tradeoff index concentrated in the middle part of the Yanhe Basin and marginal areas of the southern basin. Map overlapping was used for preliminary analysis to seek potential influencing factors, and the results showed that shrub was the best suited for growing in the Yanhe Basin, but also was a potential influencing factor for formulation of the tradeoff hotspots. The concept of tradeoff index could also be used to quantify the degree of synergy between different ecosystem services. | 3 | Subject-specific Finite Element Modelling of the Human Shoulder Complex Part 1:Model Construction and Quasi-static Abduction Simulation显示文摘Human shoulder joints exhibit stable but highly active characteristics due to a large amount of soft tissues.Finite Element(FE)modelling plays an important role in enhancing our understanding of the mechanism of shoulder disorders.However,the previous FE shoulder models largely neglected the Three-Dimensional(3D)volume of soft tissues and their sophisticated interactions with the skeletons.This study develops a 3D model of the rotator cuff and deltoid muscles and tendons.It also includes cartilage and,for the first time,main ligaments around the joint to provide a better computational representation of the delicate interaction of the soft tissues.This model has potential value for studying the force transfer mechanism and overall joint stability variation caused by 3D pathological changes of rotator cuff tendons.Motion analysis systems and Magnetic Resonance(MR)scans were used to collect shoulder movement and geometric data from a young healthy subject,respectively.Based on MR images,a FE model with detailed representations of the musculoskeletal components was constructed.A multi-body model and the measured motion data were utilised to estimate the loading and boundary conditions.Quasi-static FE analyses simulated four instants of the measured scapular abduction.Simultaneously determined glenohumeral motion,stress/strain distribution in soft tissues,contact area,and mean/peak contact pressure were found to increase monotonically from 0°to 30°of abduction.The results of muscle forces,bone-on-bone contact force,and superior-inferior movement of the humeral centre during motion were consistent with previous experimental and numerical results.It is concluded that the constructed FE shoulder model can accurately estimate the biomechanics in the investigated range of motion and may be further used for the comprehensive study of shoulder musculoskeletal disorders. | Manxu Zheng Zhihui Qian Zhenmin Zou Chris Peach Mohammad Akrami Lei Ren | 2020 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,6: | 1 |
| 4 | Drought fluctuations based on dendrochronology since 1786 for the Lenglongling Mountains at the northwestern fringe of the East Asian summer monsoon region显示文摘The Lenglongling Mountains(LLM)located in northeastern part of the Tibet Plateau,belong to a marginal area of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)and are sensitive to monsoon dynamics.Two tree-ring width chronologies developed from six sites of Picea crassifolia in the LLM were employed to study the regional drought variability.Correlation and temporal correlation analyses showed that relationships between the two chronologies and self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index(sc_PDSI)were significant and stable across time,demonstrating the strength of sc_PDSI in modeling drought conditions in this region.Based on the relationships,the mean sc_PDSI was reconstructed for the period from 1786 to 2013.Dry conditions prevailed during 1817–1819,1829–1831,1928–1931 and 1999–2001.Relatively wet periods were identified for 1792–1795 and 1954–1956.Spatial correlations with other fourteen precipitation/drought reconstructed series in previous studies revealed that in arid regions of Northwest China,long-term variability of moisture conditions was synchronous before the 1950 s at a decadal scale(1791–1954).In northwestern margin of the EASM,most of all selected reconstructions had better consistency in low-frequency variation,especially during dry periods,indicating similar regional moisture variations and analogous modes of climate forcing on tree growth in the region. | HOU Ying NIU Zhenmin ZHENG Fang WANG Nai'ang WANG Jianyu LI Zhuolun CHEN Hongxiang ZHANG Xuemin | 2016 | Journal of Arid Land2016,8,4: | 1 |
| 5 | Secrecy energy efficiency maximization for UAV-enabled multi-hop mobile relay system显示文摘To deal with the secrecy issues and energy efficiency issues in the unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) assisted communication systems, an UAV-enabled multi-hop mobile relay system is studied in an urban environment. Multiple rotary-wing UAVs with energy budget considerations are employed as relays to forward confidential information between two ground nodes in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers. The system secrecy energy efficiency(SEE), defined by the ratio of minimum achievable secrecy rate(SR) to total propulsion energy consumption(PEC), is maximized via jointly optimizing the trajectory and transmit power of each UAV relay. To solve the formulated non-convex fractional optimization problem subject to mobility, transmit power and information-causality constraints, an effective iterative algorithm is proposed by applying the updated-rate-assisted block coordinate decent method, successive convex approximation(SCA) technique and Dinkelbach method.
