1Global blue carbon accumulation in tidal wetlands increases with climate change显示文摘Coastal tidal wetlands produce and accumulate significant amounts of organic carbon(C)that help to mitigate climate change.However,previous data limitations have prevented a robust evaluation of the global rates and mechanisms driving C accumulation.Here,we go beyond recent soil C stock estimates to reveal global tidal wetland C accumulation and predict changes under relative sea level rise,temperature and precipitation.We use data from literature study sites and our new observations spanning wide latitudinal gradients and 20 countries.Globally,tidal wetlands accumulate 53.65(95%CI:48.52-59.01)Tg C yr^(-1),which is~30%of the organic C buried on the ocean floor.Modeling based on current climatic drivers and under projected emissions scenarios revealed a net increase in the global C accumulation by2100.This rapid increase is driven by sea level rise in tidal marshes,and higher temperature and precipitation in mangroves.Countries with large areas of coastal wetlands,like Indonesia and Mexico,are more susceptible to tidal wetland C losses under climate change,while regions such as Australia,Brazil,the USA and China will experience a significant C accumulation increase under all projected scenarios.Faming Wang Christian J.Sanders Isaac R.Santos Jianwu Tang Mark Schuerch Matthew L.Kirwan Robert E.Kopp Kai Zhu Xiuzhen Li Jiacan Yuan Wenzhi Liu Zhian Li 2021National Science Review2021,8,9:22
2A novel CCCH-type zinc finger protein SAW1 activates OsGA20ox3 to regulate gibberellin homeostasis and anther development in rice显示文摘Male sterility is a prerequisite for hybrid seed production.The phytohormone gibberellin(GA)is in-volved in regulating male reproductive development,but the mechanism underlying GA homeostasis in anther development remains less understood.Here,we report the isolation and characterization of a new positive regulator of GA homeostasis,swollen anther wall 1(SAW1),for anther development in rice(Oryza sativa L.).Rice plants carrying the recessive mutant allele saw1 produces abnormal anthers with swollen anther wall and aborted pollen.Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRIPSR-associated protein 9-mediated knockout of SAW1 in rice generated similar male sterile plants.SAW1 encodes a novel nucleus-localizing CCCH-tandem zinc finger protein,and this protein could directly bind to the promoter region of the GA synthesis gene OsGA20ox3 to induce its anther-specific expression.In the saw1 anther,the significantly decreased OsGA20ox3 expression resulted in lower bio-active GA content,which in turn caused the lower expression of the GA-inducible anther-regulator gene OsGAMYB.Thus,our results disclose the mechanism of the SAW1-GA20ox3-GAMYB pathway in controlling rice anther development,and provide a new target gene for the rapid generation of male sterile lines by genome editing for hybrid breeding.Bin Wang Ruiqiu Fang Faming Chen Jingluan Han Yao-Guang Liu Letian Chen Qinlong Zhu 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,10:5
3Optimization study on the rehydration process of lyophilized human platelets显示文摘Long-term preservation of human platelets will greatly reduce the risk of their shortage. Lyophilization has been proved feasible for this purpose. For the recovery of lyophilized platelets,rehydration is an important process. In this paper,the rehydration proc-esses for 1 mL and 2 mL samples were studied. The effects of prehydration duration(15,30,60,90,120 and 150 min) in 37°C water vapor and the concentration of rehydration solution(25%,50%,75%,100% platelet-poor plasma) on the recovery rate,MPV(mean platelet volume) and PDW(platelet distribution width) were investigated. The mass changes during the prehydration process were weighed. The optimized rehydration conditions are as follows:(1) for 1 mL sample,the prehydration duration was 15 min and for 2 mL sample the prehydration duration was 90 min;(2) the rehydration solution was 75% platelet-poor plasma. Under optimized conditions,the morphology of the rehydrated platelets kept normal and their ultrastructures kept intact,their aggregation capacity to thrombin(1 U/mL) was 82.8% of the fresh ones. 4The formation age and evolution of Kumtagh Desert显示文摘The ancient aeolian sand has been regarded as an indicator for the formation and evolution of a desert in the past.Kumtagh Desert is located at the northern fringe of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.The first integrated scientific investigation to the desert was carried out during the period of 2004-2006.Kumtagh Desert is an ideal natural model for studying the formation and evolution of the desert because the Quaternary strata containing ancient aeolian sands are widely distributed.The integrated field investigation and studies on sedimentary,chronology and palynology of typical profiles named Suosuo gully,Xiaoquan gully and gravel body with ancient aeolian sand layers showed that Kumtagh Desert was probably formed as early as 2,097.7±314.7 ka BP.During the period of 386.9±58.0 ka BP to 285.9±42.9 ka BP,the desert largely expanded and formed its modern distribution pattern.The desert was originally developed in the southwest,subsequently,expanded to the north and northeast.The sedimentary facies of Suosuo gully profile revealed that the desert experienced at least 19 cycles of advance and inverse processes of desertification with an average period of 110 ka in the Quaternary.The neotectonic movements played an important role in the formation,development and geomorphology of the desert.On one hand,the movements caused the formation of intermontane fault basin,which was further developed towards the closed drought basin,and caused the formation of natural environment.On the other hand,under the control of surrounding faults,the unique broom-shaped desert landscape was formed,and the gullies and sand ridges in this region experienced an abrupt directional change from north by west to north by east at the location of 39°45'-39°55'N.The unique landscape of gravel body that occurred widely in the northern desert was formed after 285.9±42.9 ka BP.The results in this paper provide the scientific basis for studying the formation age and evolutionary process under the dry climate and environment in the northwestern China,and the uplifting of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as well as its responses to the global climate changes.JinNian TANG ZhiZhu SU Feng DING ShuJuan ZHU YouHao E XinWei ZHAI ZhiYu Yl HuJun LIU JinChun ZHANGI FaMing LI 2011Journal of Arid Land2011,3,2:1
5Species-dependent responses of soil microbial properties to fresh leaf inputs in a subtropical forest soil in South China显示文摘Aims Forest disturbance from extreme weather events due to climate change could increase the contribution of fresh green leaves to the litter layer of soil and subsequently alter the composition and activity of the soil microbial properties and soil carbon cycling.The objective of this study was to compare the effect of naturally fallen litter and fresh leaves on the soil microbial community composition and their activities.Methods Fresh leaves and normal fallen litter were collected from four tree species(Pinus elliottii,Schima superba,Acacia mangium,A.auriculaeformis)in subtropical China and mixed with soil.Soil microbial community composition was determined using PLFAs,and its activity was quantified by soil respiration.During a 12-month period,the decomposition rate of litter was measured bimonthly using a litterbag method.Soil microbial samples were collected after 6 and 12 months.Soil respiration was measured monthly.Important Findings We found that fresh leaves decomposed faster than their conspecific fallen litter.Although total microbial biomass and bacterial biomass were similar among treatments,soil fungal biomass was higher in fresh leaf than fallen litter treatments,resulting in greater values of the Fungal phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs)/Bacterial PLFAs ratio.Fungal PLFA values were greater for Schima superba than the other species.The effect of litter type on soil respiration was species-dependent.Specifically,fallen litter released 35%more CO_(2) than fresh leaves of the conifer P.elliottii.The opposite pattern was observed in the broadleaf species whose fresh leaf treatments emitted 17%–32%more CO_(2) than fallen litter.Given future predictions that global climate change will cause more disturbances to forests,these results indicate that conifer and broadleaf forests in subtropical China may respond differently to increased fresh litter inputs,with net soil microbial respiration decreasing in conifer forests and increasing in broadleaf forests.Faming Wang Jin Liu Bi Zou Deborah A.Neher Weixing Zhu Zhian Li 2014Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,1:0
6Expert consensus on odontogenic maxillary sinusitis multi-disciplinary treatment显示文摘Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) is a subtype of maxillary sinusitis (MS). It is actually inflammation of the maxillary sinus that secondary to adjacent infectious maxillary dental lesion. Due to the lack of unique clinical features, OMS is difficult to distinguish from other types of rhinosinusitis. Besides, the characteristic infectious pathogeny of OMS makes it is resistant to conventional therapies of rhinosinusitis. Its current diagnosis and treatment are thus facing great difficulties. The multi-disciplinary cooperation between otolaryngologists and dentists is absolutely urgent to settle these questions and to acquire standardized diagnostic and treatment regimen for OMS. However, this disease has actually received little attention and has been underrepresented by relatively low publication volume and quality. Based on systematically reviewed literature and practical experiences of expert members, our consensus focuses on characteristics, symptoms, classification and diagnosis of OMS, and further put forward multidisciplinary treatment decisions for OMS, as well as the common treatment complications and relative managements. 7Evolution of gene regulatory network of C_(4) photosynthesis in the genus Flaveria reveals the evolutionary status of C_(3)-C_(4) intermediate species显示文摘C_(4) photosynthesis evolved from ancestral C_(3) photosynthesis by recruiting pre-existing genes to fulfill new functions.The enzymes and transporters required for the C_(4) metabolic pathway have been intensively studied and well documented;however,the transcription factors(TFs)that regulate these C_(4) metabolic genes are not yet well understood.In particular,how the TF regulatory network of C_(4) metabolic genes was rewired during the evolutionary process is unclear.Here,we constructed gene regulatory networks(GRNs)for four closely evolutionarily related species from the genus Flaveria,which represent four different evolutionary stages of C_(4) photosynthesis:C_(3)(F.robusta),type Ⅰ C_(3)-C_(4)(F.sonorensis),type Ⅱ C_(3)-C_(4)(F.ramosissima),and C_(4)(F.trinervia).Our results show that more than half of the co-regulatory relationships between TFs and core C_(4) metabolic genes are species specific.The counterparts of the C_(4) genes in C_(3) species were already co-regulated with photosynthesis-related genes,whereas the required TFs for C_(4) photosynthesis were recruited later.The TFs involved in C_(4) photosynthesis were widely recruited in the type Ⅰ C_(3)-C_(4) species;nevertheless,type Ⅱ C_(3)-C_(4) species showed a divergent GRN from C_(4) species.In line with these findings,a ^(13)CO_(2) pulse-labeling experiment showed that the CO_(2) initially fixed into C_(4) acid was not directly released to the Calvin–Benson–Bassham cycle in the type Ⅱ C_(3)-C_(4) species.Therefore,our study uncovered dynamic changes in C_(4) genes and TF co-regulation during the evolutionary process;furthermore,we showed that the metabolic pathway of the type Ⅱ C_(3)-C_(4) species F.ramosissima represents an alternative evolutionary solution to the ammonia imbalance in C_(3)-C_(4) intermediate species.Ming-Ju Amy Lyu Qiming Tang Yanjie Wang Jemaa Essemine Faming Chen Xiaoxiang Ni Genyun Chen Xin-Guang Zhu 2023Plant Communications2023,4,1:0
