1Sediment Transport in the Nearshore Area of Phoenix Island显示文摘Based on the measured data, suspended sediment concentration, surface sediment grain size, current and waves, the sediment transport mechanisms and pathways in the Phoenix Island area were analyzed using methods of flux decomposition and Grain Size Trend Analysis(GSTA). The results show that net suspended sediment is mainly transported by average current, Stokes drift, and gravitational circulation. The transport direction of suspended sediment is varying and basically following the direction of residual tidal currents. Surface sediment transport pathways are primarily parallel to the coastline along with two convergent centers. Waves and longshore currents have a significant influence on sediment transport, but the influence is limited due to a steep and deep underwater bank. Tidal current is the main controlling factor for sediment transport, especially in the deep water area. Neither suspended nor surface sediment is transported towards the southwest. 2Suspended Sediment Transport and Deposition in the Zhoushan Archipelago Sea Area显示文摘The transport mechanism and settlement characteristics of suspended sediments are analyzed in this article on the basis of measured data. Results indicate that the concentration and flux of suspended sediments decrease sharply from Hangzhou Bay to the offshore area. Suspended sediment transport is mainly controlled by advection transport and gravitational circulation transport. The settling velocity of suspended sediments gradually decreases from Hangzhou Bay to the offshore area. 3Beach Morphology and Coastline Evolution in the Southern Bohai Strait显示文摘The beach studied in this paper spans a length of 51 km and is one of several long sandy beaches in the southern Bohai Strait. Due to the obstruction of islands in the northeast and the influence of the underwater topography, the wave environment in the offshore area is complex; beach types and sediment transport characteristics vary along different coasts. The coastlines extracted from six aerial photographs in different years were compared to demonstrate the evolving features. Seven typical beach profiles were selected to study the lateral beach variation characteristics. Continuous wind and wave observation data from Beihuangcheng ocean station during 2009 were employed for the hindcast of the local wave environment using a regional spectral wave model. Then the results of the wave hindcast were incorporated into the LITDRIFT model to compute the sediment transport rates and directions along the coasts and analyze the longshore sand movement. The results show that the coastline evolution of sand beaches in the southern Bohai Strait has spatial and temporal variations and the coast can be divided into four typical regions. Region(I), the north coast of Qimudao, is a slightly eroded and dissipative beach with a large sediment transport rate; Region(II), the southwest coast of Gangluan Port, is a slightly deposited and dissipative beach with moderate sediment transport rate; Region(III), in the central area, is a beach that is gradually transformed from a slightly eroded dissipative beach to a moderately or slightly strong eroded bar-trough beach from west to east with a relatively moderate sediment transport rate. Region(IV), on the east coast, is a strongly eroded and reflective beach with a weak sediment transport rate. The wave conditions exhibit an increasing trend from west to east in the offshore area. The distribution of the wave-induced current inside the wave breaking region and the littoral sediment transport in the nearshore region exhibit a gradual weakening tendency from west to east, which is opposite to the trend of the wave conditions outside the breaking region. The presence of submerged shoal(Dengzhou Shoal), deep trough(Dengzhou Channel), islands and irregular topography influnces the wave climate, beach types, wave-induced current features, littoral sediment transport trends and coastline evolution patterns in the southern Bohai Strait. 5Time-Modulated Transmissive Programmable Metasurface for Low Sidelobe Beam Scanning显示文摘Programmable metasurfaces have great potential for the implementation of low-complexity and low-cost phased arrays.Due to the difficulty of multiple-bit phase control,conventional programmable metasurfaces suffer a relatively high sidelobe level(SLL).In this manuscript,a time modulation strategy is introduced in the 1-bit transmissive programmable metasurface for reducing the SLLs of the generated patterns.After the periodic time modulation,harmonics are generated in each reconfigurable unit and the phase of the first-order harmonic can be dynamically controlled by applying different modulation sequences onto the corresponding unit.Through the high-speed modulation of the real-time periodic coding sequences on the metasurface by the programmable bias circuit,the equivalent phase shift accuracy to each metasurface unit can be improved to 6-bit and thus the SLLs of the metasurface could be reduced remarkably.The proposed time-modulated strategy is verified both numerically and experimentally with a transmissive programmable metasurface,which obtains an aperture efficiency over 34%and reduced SLLs of about-2o dB.The proposed design could offer a novel approach of a programmable metasurface framework for radar detection and secure communication applications.Xudong Baio Fuli Zhang Li Sun Anjie Cao Jin Zhang Chong He Longhai Liu Jianquan Yao Weiren Zhu 2022Research2022,,4:1

9Dynamical Control of Asymmetrically Oblique Tidal Currents to the Sedimentary Characteristics and Development of Linear Sand Ridges in the Liaodong Shoal, East Bohai Sea显示文摘The Liaodong Shoal is a group of linear sand ridges located in the east Bohai Sea of China.In this study,54 surface sediment samples have been collected,current measurements at 4 stations have been carried out and bathymetric data were obtained.The current directions are rightward deflected relative to the strikes of the sand ridges.Affected by the narrowing effect of the ridge,the current velocities exhibited an anti-‘C’type vertical profile.The velocities of the lower currents linearly correlate with the water depths.The near-bed current velocities over the troughs are estimated to be higher than those over the ridges,and this feature could be explained by the loss of kinetic energy together with the conversion between kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy.The sedimentary characteristics that are compatible with the tidal dynamics are developed across the ridges and troughs,including grain size compositions,grain size parameters,mineral compositions and Dhm indexes.The existence of the angles between the current directions and the strikes of the sand ridges is the key factor for the growth of the sand ridges.The asymmetric hydrodynamic features between the flood and ebb currents lead to the differences in the topographical and sedimentary characteristics on both sides of a sand ridge.Insufficient material supply led to the degradation of the sand ridges,and the reduction of the tidal current intensity has led to the development of the subordinate sand ridges in the troughs.Sand ridges are migrating.ZHANG Lianjie ZHU Longhai WU Jianzheng HU Rijun WANG Peng ZHANG Pan 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,1:0

11Origin and geochemistry of surface sediments in the mud deposit area offshore the Shandong Peninsula,China显示文摘The waters offshore the Shandong Peninsula separate the North Yellow Sea from the South Yellow Sea,and receive a large amount of terrestrial material from Chinese and Korean rivers,making it an ideal area for studying land-sea interactions.However,little attention has been given to measuring sediment transportation in most previous studies.Based on an analysis in composition of major and trace elements and particle size characteristics from 62 surface sediment samples from the northeastern region off Shandong Peninsula,the type,element composition,and controlling factors of the surface sediments were investigated.In addition,the transportation of sediments from source to sink was described from measured thermohaline data.The results show two types of surface sediments:sandy silt and silt.The sediments were mainly terrestrial;and marine carbonate had little effect on sediment composition.Shown on a binary diagram of Rb/Sc to Co/Sc,the Huanghe(Yellow)and Changjiang(Yangtze)Rivers are the main sources of surface sediments in the study area.The component mixing model showed that the relative contribution of sediment from the Huanghe River was up to 92%,followed by the Changjiang River(8%).The Yellow Sea Warm Current and the North Shandong Peninsula Coastal Current met at∼37.7°N in the study area,and were the main forces carrying sediment from the two main river sources.However,there was a deficit of transported material into the study area in summer.The secondary distribution of sediment from the two river sources was controlled by tidal currents and waves.Yingtao ZHU Xiuli FENG Longhai ZHU Wei ZHONG 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,2:0
12The effect of aerobic dancing on physical fitness and cognitive function in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic-a natural experiment显示文摘During the Coronavirus disease(COVID-19),the physical activity of older adults is at a lower level.The study aimed to examine the effectiveness of aerobic dancing on physical fitness and cognitive function in older adults.We conducted a randomized controlled trial with 34 older adults who were assigned into an aerobic dancing group and a control group.Three dance sessions weekly for 60min were scheduled for the aerobic dancing group for a total of 12 weeks.Physical fitness,blood pressure,lipids,glucose,cognitive function were assessed before and after the intervention.Baseline adjusted Analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA)was used to determine whether outcome variables varied between groups at pre-test and post-test.Effect size(Cohen's d)was calculated to determine the differences between groups from baseline to post-test.After 12 weeks,we found that the aerobic dancing group showed significant improvement in memory(portrait memory:F=10.45,p=0.003,d=1.18).The Limit of Stability(LOS)parameters in the aerobic dancing group displayed a significant increase after the intervention(right angle:F=5.90,p=0.022,d=0.60;right-anterior angle:F=4.23,p=0.049,d=0.12).Some beneficial effects were found on flexibility,grip strength,balance and subjective well-being(sit and reach:F=0.25,p=0.62,d=−0.40;grip strength:F=3.38,p=0.08,d=0.89;one-legged standing with eyes closed:F=1.26,p=0.27,d=0.50)in the aerobic dancing group.Aerobic dancing training was effective in improving memory and balance ability in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic in China.In the future,aerobic dancing is a promising tool to encourage physical activity in older adults.Lin Wang Fei Guo Chenxi Zhao Minmin Zhao Chenglei Zhao Jiawei Guo Longhai Zhang Ling Zhang Zheng'ao Li Wenfei Zhu 2023Sports Medicine and Health Science2023,5,3:0
13Distribution Characteristics and Controlling Factors of Heavy Metals in Surface Sediments from the Bay-Island-Estuary System(BIES):A Case Study in Coastal Waters of Fujian Province,China显示文摘Based on the contents of six heavy metal elements in surface sediments from coastal areas of Fujian Province,the distribution characteristics and controlling factors of six heavy metals in a bay-island-estuary system(BIES)were studied.This paper focuses on the influence of the hydrodynamic environment,and systematically discusses how grain size compositions,chemical environment,tidal current,ocean circulation and human activities influence the distribution and transportation of the heavy metals.The results indicated that the distribution and migration of Cu,Pb,Zn and Cr elements were mainly controlled by natural factors such as regional geological background,grain size compositions,and tidal residual currents.In contrast,As and Hg was mainly affected by human factors such as agriculture and industrial manufacturing.In the BIES,where the chemical environment exerted limited influence,the accumulation and migration of heavy metals are mainly influenced by human activities and enhanced by estuary processes as well as the complex sedimentary dynamic environment caused by many bays and islands.LIU Bo HU Rijun WANG Yonghong LI Yi ZHU Longhai ZHANG Xiaodong YUAN Xiaodong 2023Journal of Ocean University of China2023,22,5:0
