1Probabilistic stability analyses of undrained slopes by 3D random fields and finite element methods显示文摘A long slope consisting of spatially random soils is a common geographical feature. This paper examined the necessity of three-dimensional(3 D) analysis when dealing with slope with full randomness in soil properties. Although 3 D random finite element analysis can well reflect the spatial variability of soil properties, it is often time-consuming for probabilistic stability analysis. For this reason, we also examined the least advantageous(or most pessimistic) cross-section of the studied slope. The concept of'most pessimistic' refers to the minimal cross-sectional average of undrained shear strength. The selection of the most pessimistic section is achievable by simulating the undrained shear strength as a 3 D random field. Random finite element analysis results suggest that two-dimensional(2 D) plane strain analysis based the most pessimistic cross-section generally provides a more conservative result than the corresponding full 3 D analysis. The level of conservativeness is around 15% on average. 2ENSO signals and their spatial-temporal variation characteristics recorded by the sea-level changes in the northwest Pacific margin during 1965-2005显示文摘Sea-level is closely linked to the Earth's climate and its change is important as a metric for global and regional climate change. Identifying, extracting, and revealing such information through detailed analysis is the prerequisite for understanding the mechanisms of sea-level change. The monthlyaverage tide-change records reported and examined in this paper are from 10 tide gauge stations distributed in the northwest margin of the Pacific Ocean, registered during the period 1965-2005. In particular, we have utilized the Second Order Blind Identification (SOBI) method to identify and the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method to extract the El Nio-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) signals imprinted in those tide gauge records; and subsequently, we have investigated the spa-tial-temporal characteristics of the extracted ENSO signals using wavelet analysis methods. The following results are obtained: (1) the ENSO events recorded by each tide gauge series are of different types and intensity, which show considerable temporal-spatial variation characteristics, with sea-level responses to ENSO signals remarkably stronger in low latitude areas than in medium-high latitude areas; (2) due to the influences of ocean currents, topographical conditions, and other factors, there exist variations in the type of relationship between the sea-level changes and the recorded ENSO events at different latitudes; (3) sea-level changes can also denote scale-variation characteristics of ENSO events, and particularly, since 1980s, all the tide gauges located south of Kanmen show intense responses to ENSO and the timescale of ENSO events extended gradually from around 4 years to 2-8 years, reflecting variations in the intensity and frequency of ENSO events; and (4) reverse changes of certain scale were noted before and after strong ENSO events recorded by sea-level changes, supporting the research findings about the interaction (mutual coupling and superimposition) between the probability of occurrence of strong ENSO events and their time scale.YUAN LinWang,YU ZhaoYuan,XIE ZhiRen,SONG ZhiYao & Lü GuoNian School of Geographical Science,Nanjing Normal University,Nanjing 210046,China 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,6:14
3Coordinated Transcriptional Regulation by the UVB Photoreceptor and Multiple Transcription Factors for Plant UV-B Responses显示文摘Non-damaging ultraviolet B(UV-B)light promotes photomorphogenic development and stress acclimation through UV-B-specific signal transduction in Arabidopsis.UV-B irradiation induces monomerization and nuclear translocation of the UV-B photoreceptor UV RESISTANCE LOCUS 8(UVR8).However,it is not clear how the nuclear localization of UVR8 leads to changes in global gene expression.Here,we reveal that nuclear UVR8 governs UV-B-responsive transcriptional networks in concert with several previously known transcription factors,including ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5(HY5)and PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR 4(PIF4).Based on the transcriptomic analysis,we identify MYB13 as a novel positive regulator in UV-B-induced cotyledon expansion and stress acclimation.MYB13 is UV-B inducible and is predominantly expressed in the cotyledons.Our results demonstrate that MYB13 protein functions as a transcription factor to regulate the expression of genes involved in auxin response and flavonoid biosynthesis through direct binding with their promoters.In addition,photoactivated UVR8 interacts with MYB13 in a UV-B-dependent manner and differentially modulates the affinity of MYB13 with its targets.Taken together,our results elucidate the cooperative function of the UV-B photoreceptor UVR8 with various transcription factors in the nucleus to orchestrate the expression of specific sets of downstream genes and,ultimately,mediate plant responses to UV-B light.Chongzhen Qian Zhiren Chen Qing Liu Weiwei Mao Yanling Chen Wei Tian Yan Liu Jiupan Han Xinhao Ouyang Xi Huang 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,5:13
4Morphology of the medullary visceral zone显示文摘Since 1990, a series of studies on rats, monkeys and human foetus showed that an arcshaped zone is present in the middle-caudal segment of medulla oblongata, running from the dorsomedial part to the ventrolateral part and passing through the reticular formation. It was named the medullary visceral zone (MVZ). The MVZ has been investigated with various techniques (Golgi method, Nissl method, immunohistochemical method, in situ hybridization method, triple labelling method, neurophysiological method, etc. ), and the morphological features as well as the physiological functions of MVZ have been preliminarily understood. 5A new ecological control method for Pisha sandstone based on hydrophilic polyurethane显示文摘The Pisha sandstone-coverd area is among the regions that suffer from the most severe water loss and soil erosion in China and is the main source of coarse sand for the Yellow River. This study demonstrated a new erosion control method using W-OH solution, a type of hydrophilic polyurethane, to prevent the Pisha sandstone from water erosion. We evaluated the comprehensive effects of W-OH on water erosion resistance and vegetation-growth promotion through simulated scouring tests and field demonstrations on the Ordos Plateau of China. The results of simulated scouring tests show that the water erosion resistance of W-OH treated area was excellent and the cumulative sediment yield reduction reached more than 99%. In the field demonstrations, the vegetation coverage reached approximately 95% in the consolidation-green area, and there was almost no shallow trenches on the entire slope in the treated area. In comparison, the control area experienced severe erosion with deep erosion gullies appeared on the slope and the vegetation coverage was less than 30%. This study illustrated that W-OH treatment can protect the Pisha sandstone from erosion and provide the vegetation seeds a chance to grow. 6Experimental research on air film formation behavior of air cushion belt conveyor with stable load显示文摘In this paper, the air film formation behavior of air cushion belt conveyor with stable load is studied. The air cushion field is analyzed by means of theoretical derivation, numerical simulation and experimental research. An intelligent experiment platform is developed. Three dimensional pressure distribution of air film and the air film thickness distribution along the conveyor belt in the width direction are obtained. The experimental result is analyzed by comparing with theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. The numerical and theoretical results are in good agreement with those obtained from experiments. The air film formation behavior pattern of air cushion belt conveyor with stable load is presented. The optimized film thickness and pore distribution are obtained based on the comprehensive energy consumption. 7TiO2/EDTA-rich carbon composites: Synthesis, characterization and visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of Cr(Ⅵ)显示文摘Ti02/EDTA-rich carbon composites(TiO_2/EDTA-RC) have been successfully synthesized via a low temperature carbonization process. TiO_2/EDTA-RC exhibits marked absorption of visible light and excellent photoreduction of Cr(Ⅵ) activity under visible light irradiation(λ>420 nm). Due to the high carboxyl group content and strong coordination ability of EDTA, TiO_2-EDTA complex can be easily fabricated between EDTA incorporated in carbon sheet and titanol group on the surface of TiO_2. TiO_2-EDTA complexes on the surface of TiO_2/EDTA-RC, the LMCT complex, are responsible for the prominent photoreduction of Cr(Ⅵ) properties of Ti02/EDTA-RC under visible light irradiation. In addition, the unique structure ofTiO_2/EDTA-RC is also propitious to the visible-light photocatalytic reduction of Cr(Ⅵ).Carbon sheet of TiO_2/EDTA-RC acts as a supporter. 8Preparation and characterization of porous titania-grafted poly(styrene-divinylbenzene)/maleic anhydride nanocomposite microspheres显示文摘Mesoporous titania-grafted poly(styrene-divinylbenzene)/maleic anhydride [P(St-DVB)/MA] nanocomposite microspheres were prepared by an open ring reaction method.The titania nanoparticles were first modified by attachment of amino groups to their surface to prevent particle aggregation,and to allow the nanoparticles to covalently bond the polymer microspheres,the surface of which was modified by attachment of MA functional groups to enable the polymer to retain their porous structures and to react with the amino groups on the surface of the titania particles.The porous nanocomposite microspheres were detected by FTIR,SEM,TEM,XRD and UV-Vis spectrophotometry.The results indicated that the nanocomposite microspheres were composed of nanosized titania uniformly distributed on the surface,and exhibited better UV absorbing property than pure polymer microspheres or unmodified titania.Furthermore,compared with pure porous polymer microspheres,the nanocomposite microspheres showed more efficient UV protection and slow release of Parsol-1789(a photo-reactive and cosmetic agent) held inside the porous network of the microspheres.Li Sen Wang Kuan Zhang ZhiRen Song ChunLian Cheng Jiang Yang ZhuoRu Wen XiuFang Pi PiHui 2010Science China Chemistry2010,53,3:3

10Apoptosis induced by titanium dioxide nanoparticles in cultured murine microglia N9 cells显示文摘Owing to the rapidly increasing output of nano-scale titanium dioxide(TiO2) particles,their potential risk for central nerve system(CNS) has elicited much concern recently.Microglia is the resident macrophage in CNS and essential for the homeostasis of the CNS microenvironment.They are supposed to response to nanoparticles depositing in the brain tissues.Therefore,we investigated the cytotoxic effects of TiO2 NPs on microglia N9 cells in vitro.Results of propidium iodide/fluorescein diacetate(PI/FDA) double staining and MTT test clearly showed that TiO2 NPs more efficiently affected the viability of microglia N9 cells.Further Hoechst 33258 staining and flow cytometric analysis proved that nano-scale but not normal scale TiO2 induced apoptosis in vitro.These data suggest that TiO2 NPs can elicit apoptosis of N9 cells in vitro and thus present a potential risk for CNS.LI XiaoBo XU ShunQing ZHANG ZhiRen Hermann J Schluesener 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,20:2
