1Exclosures restored the density and root colonization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia显示文摘Introduction:Exclusion of grazing animals and tree plantations were among the methods used for the restoration of degraded lands in tropical semiarid areas.Exclosures can foster secondary forest succession by improving soil conditions and modifying microclimate for understory growth.This paper compared the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)spore density,root colonization of woody plants and soil chemical properties under exclosure with increasing age,and grazing land at different slope positions.Methods:The study was conducted in northern Ethiopia from 12 exclosure sites paired each with adjacent grazing land in total from 24 sites with four treatments replicated three times.In the entire study,216 plots were examined of which 108 were in exclosures and 108 in communal grazing lands.There were four age classes and three slope positions in each of the land uses.Composite soil and root samples were collected using nested plots measuring 100m2 from four sides of 1763 plants for spore enumeration and root colonization.Soils for chemical properties were collected from the four corners and center of 5 m×5 m plots.Results:All the 61 woody plant species that belong to 41 families were colonized by AMF.Spore density and root colonization were significantly higher in exclosures as compared to grazing land and increased with increasing ages of exclosures.Foot slope had significantly higher spore density and root colonization than middle and upper slopes.Soil chemical properties were significantly higher in the exclosure,oldest age of exclosure,and foot slope position(except P).AMF spore density and root colonization were significantly positively correlated with soil chemical properties.Conclusions:Exclosures are helpful to restore the AMF spore density and root colonization of woody species and soil fertility.Emiru Birhane Kide Mogos Gebremedihin Tewodros Tadesse Mengsteab Hailemariam Negasi Solomon 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:2

15Monitoring and Quantification of Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Impact of Sea Surface Temperature on Marine Ecosystems as Climate Change Indicators in the Niger Delta Using Geospatial Technology显示文摘The Niger Delta marine environment has experienced a series of environmental disasters since the inception of oil and gas exploration,which can be attributed to climate change.Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions and sea surface temperature(T)ties associated with burning fossil fuels,such as gas flaring,vehicular traffic,and marine vessel movement along the sea,are increasing.Using data extracted from the NASA Giovanni satellite’s Atmospheric Infrared Sounder(AIRS)and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS),this study mapped the carbon footprint and T along the coastline into the deep sea from 2003 to 2011,using ArcGIS software.The spatial distribution of CO_(2) and T concentrations determined by the inverse distance weighting(IDW)method reveals variations in the study area.The results show an increase in the quantity of the mean tropospheric CO_(2) from July 2003 to December 2011,from 374.5129 ppm to 390.7831 ppm annual CO_(2) emissions,which also reflects a continuous increase.The average Monthly sea surface temperature had a general increasing trend from 25.79℃ in July 2003 to 27.8°C in December,with the Pearson correlation coefficient between CO_(2) and T indicating 50%strongly positive,20%strongly negative,20%weakly positive,and 10%weakly negative.CO_(2) levels,like temperature,follow a seasonal cycle,with a decrease during the wet season due to precipitation dissolving and plant uptake during the growing season,and then a rise during the dry season.Carbon capture and storage technologies must be implemented to benefit the marine ecosystem and human well-being.Okechukwu Okpobiri Eteh Desmond Rowland Francis Emeka Egobueze Mogo Felicia Chinwe 2023Journal of Atmospheric Science Research2023,6,1:0
16Giant androgen-producing adrenocortical carcinoma with atrial flutter: A case report and review of the literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Adrenocortical carcinoma(ACC),the second most aggressive malignant tumor,lacks epidemiological data worldwide;therefore,every new case can improve the understanding of the pathology and treatment of this malignancy.CASE SUMMARY We present the case of a 66-year-old Caucasian woman with a giant androgenproducing ACC(21 cm×17 cm×12 cm;2100 g),without metastases,which unusually presented with an acute onset of atrial flutter and congestive heart failure.The cardiac complications observed in our case support the hypothesis that androgen excess in women is a cardiovascular risk factor.Androgen excess in women can be a rare cause of reversible dilated cardiomyopathy,therefore a comprehensive approach to the patient is essential to improve the recognition of androgen-secreting ACC.The atrial flutter was remitted after initiation of drug treatment during admission.The severe heart failure was totally remitted at 6 mo after radical open surgery to remove the giant ACC.CONCLUSION Radical open surgery to remove a giant androgen-producing ACC was the firstline treatment to cure the excess of androgen,which determined the total remission of cardiac complications at 6 mo after surgery in the women of this case report.Mircea-Florin Costache Raluca-Elena Arhirii Simona-Juliette Mogos Corina Lupascu-Ursulescu Cezara-Ioana Litcanu Adi-Ionut Ciumanghel Catalina Cucu Cristina-Mihaela Ghiciuc Antoniu-Octavian Petris Nicolae Danila 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,20:0
