1Traditional Chinese medicine in COVID-19显示文摘COVID-19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARSCo V-2)has spread across the globe,posing an enormous threat to public health and safety.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),in combination with Western medicine(WM),has made important and lasting contributions in the battle against COVID-19.In this review,updated clinical effects and potential mechanisms of TCM,presented in newly recognized three distinct phases of the disease,are summarized and discussed.By integrating the available clinical and preclinical evidence,the efficacies and underlying mechanisms of TCM on COVID-19,including the highly recommended three Chinese patent medicines and three Chinese medicine formulas,are described in a panorama.We hope that this comprehensive review not only provides a reference for health care professionals and the public to recognize the significant contributions of TCM for COVID-19,but also serves as an evidence-based in-depth summary and analysis to facilitate understanding the true scientific value of TCM.Ming Lyu Guanwei Fan Guangxu Xiao Taiyi Wang Dong Xu Jie Gao Shaoqin Ge Qingling Li Yuling Ma Han Zhang Jigang Wang Yuanlu Cui Junhua Zhang Yan Zhu Boli Zhang 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,11:14
2Effects of Tanreqing Capsule on the negative conversion time of nucleic acid in patients with COVID-19:A retrospective cohort study显示文摘Objective:Traditional Chinese medicine plays a significant role in the treatment of the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Tanreqing Capsule(TRQC)was used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center.This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of TRQC in the treatment of COVID-19.Methods:A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 82 patients who had laboratory-confirmed mild and moderate COVID-19;patients were treated with TRQC in one designated hospital.The treatment and control groups consisted of 25 and 57 cases,respectively.The treatment group was given TRQC orally three times a day,three pills each time,in addition to conventional Western medicine treatments which were also administered to the control group.The clinical efficacy indicators,such as the negative conversion time of pharyngeal swab nucleic acid,the negative conversion time of fecal nucleic acid,the duration of negative conversion of pharyngeal-fecal nucleic acid,and the improvement in the level of immune indicators such as T-cell subsets(CD3,CD4 and CD45)were monitored.Results:COVID-19 patients in the treatment group,compared to the control group,had a shorter negative conversion time of fecal nucleic acid(4 vs.9 days,P=0.047)and a shorter interval of negative conversion of pharyngeal-fecal nucleic acid(0 vs.2 days,P=0.042).The level of CD3+T cells increased in the treatment group compared to the control group([317.09±274.39]vs.[175.02±239.95]counts/l L,P=0.030).No statistically significant differences were detected in the median improvement in levels of CD4+T cells(173 vs.107 counts/l L,P=0.208)and CD45+T cells(366 vs.141 counts/l L,P=0.117)between the treatment and control groups.Conclusion:Significant reductions in the negative conversion time of fecal nucleic acid and the duration of negative conversion of pharyngeal-fecal nucleic acid were identified in the treatment group as compared to the control group,illustrating the potential therapeutic benefits of using TRQC as a complement to conventional medicine in patients with mild and moderate COVID-19.The underlying mechanism may be related to the improved levels of the immune indicator CD3+T cells.Xing Zhang Yan Xue Xuan Chen Jia-min Wu Zi-jian Su Meng Sun Lu-jiong Liu Yi-bao Zhang Yi-le Zhang Gui-hua Xu Miao-yan Shi Xiu-ming Song Yun-fei Lu Xiao-rong Chen Wei Zhang Qi Chen 2021Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,19,1:8
3Network pharmacology studies on the effect of Chai-Ling decoction incoronavirus disease 2019显示文摘Background:Chai-Ling decoction(CLD),derived from a modification of Xiao-Chai-Hu(XCH)decoction and Wu-Ling-San(WLS)decoction,has been used to treat the early-stage of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,the mechanisms of CLD in COVID-19 remain unknown.In this study,the potential mechanisms of CLD in COVID-19 were preliminarily investigated based on network pharmacology and molecular docking method.Methods:Initially,the active components and targets of CLD were screened based on Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform and PharmMapper database.The targets of COVID-19 were obtained from GeneCards database.The protein-protein interaction network was established using STRING database to analyze the key targets.Gene Oncology(GO)analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis were also conducted to evaluate the pathways related to the targets of CLD on COVID-19.Moreover,the compound-target-pathway network was established using Cytoscape 3.2.7.Subsequently,the molecular docking method was performed to select the active compounds with high binding affinity on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2),which is the key target of SARS-CoV-2 in entering target cells.The possible binding sites were also visualized by a three-dimensional graph.Results:Network pharmacology analysis showed that there were 106 active components and 160 targets of CLD.Additionally,251 targets related to COVID-19 were identified,and 24 candidates of CLD on COVID-19 were selected.A total of 283 GO terms of CLD on COVID-19 were identified,and 181 pathways were screened based on GO and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses.CLD might alleviate the inflammatory response and improve lung injury to treat COVID-19 through interleukin 17 signaling,T helper cell 17 differentiation,tumor necrosis factor signaling,and hypoxia inducible factor-1 signaling.Besides,molecular docking indicated that beta-sitosterol,kaempferol,and stigmasterol were the top three candidates in CLD with the highest affinity to SARS-CoV-2 and ACE2.Conclusion:Our study identifies the potential mechanisms of CLD on COVID-19 and beta-sitosterol,kaempferol,and stigmasterol may be the key compounds that exert antiviral effects against SARS-CoV-2.Lu Yang Yu-Ting Li Jing Miao Li Wang Hui Fu Qin Li Wei-Bo Wen Zhai-Yi Zhang Rui-Wen Song Xiang-Guo Liu Hong-Wu Wang Huan-Tian Cui 2020Traditional Medicine Research2020,5,3:4

9Xiaochaihu decoction alleviates viral pneumonia by regulating macrophage polarization显示文摘Background:In this investigation,we sought to evaluate the benefits of Xiaochaihu decoction(XCHD)on polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid-induced viral pneumonia in mice and elucidate its mechanisms of action.Method:A viral pneumonia model was established in mice using polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid,with mice being intragastrically administered different doses of XCHD.The benefits of XCHD therapy for mice with viral pneumonia were assessed by determining the weight ratio of lung tissue,wet-to-dry,overall protein concentrations,and total cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid,and hematoxylin and eosin staining of lung tissues.By determining the interleukin-1βlevels,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,nitric oxide,interleukin-10,and interleukin-4,and the mRNA and protein expression of nitric oxide synthase 2,arginase-1,and macrophage mannose receptor 1 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid,we assessed consequences of XCHD on macrophage polarization with mice suffering from viral pneumonia.Results:XCHD was found to significantly reduce lung tissue wet-to-dry and the total protein content and total number of cells of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid,while ameliorating pathological modifications to the lung tissues of rodents suffering from viral pneumonia,thereby indicating that this medicinal preparation has a healing impact on model mice with viral pneumonia.In addition,XCHD was found to reduce the magnitudes of interleukin-1β,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and nitric oxide and the mRNA and protein manifestation of nitric oxide synthase 2,and promote an increase in the levels of interleukin-10 and interleukin-4 and the mRNA and protein expression of arginase-1 and macrophage mannose receptor 1,thereby indicating that XCHD can favorably mediate polarization of macrophages in mice with viral pneumonia.Conclusion:XCHD has notable therapeutic effects on viral pneumonia in mice,the fundamental workings of action of which may be connected to regulation of macrophage polarization.Feng Chen Fei Qu Yu-Long Shi Feng Zhang 2023Integrative Medicine Discovery2023,7,34:0
