| 1 | Phosphogypsum stabilization of bauxite residue:Conversion of its alkaline characteristics显示文摘Reduction of the high alkalinity of bauxite residue is a key problem to solve to make it suitable for plant growth and comprehensive utilization. In this study, phosphogypsum, a waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry, was used to drive the alkaline transformation of the bauxite residue. Under optimal water washing conditions(liquid/solid ratio of 2 mL/g, 30°C, 24 hr), the impact of quantity added, reaction time and reaction mechanism during phosphogypsum application were investigated. Phosphogypsum addition effectively lowered p H levels and reduced the soluble alkalinity by 92.2%. It was found that the concentration of soluble Na and Ca ions in the supernatant increased gradually, whilst the exchangeable Na+and Ca^(2+)in solid phase changed 112 mg/kg and 259 mg/kg, respectively. Ca^(2+)became the dominant element in the solid phase(phosphogypsum addition of 2%, liquid/solid ratio of 2 mL/g, 30°C, 12 hr). X-ray diffraction data indicated that cancrinite and hydrogarnet were the primary alkaline minerals. SEM images suggested that phosphogypsum could promote the formation of stable macroaggregates, whilst the content of Ca^(2+)increased from 5.6% to 18.2% and Na reduced from 6.8% to 2.4%. | 2 | Lanthanide NIR luminescence for telecommunications, bioanalyses and solar energy conversion显示文摘Present-day advanced technologies heavily rely on the exciting magnetic and spectroscopic properties of lanthanide ions. In particular, their ability to generate well-characterized and intense near-infrared (NIR) luminescence is exploited in any modern fiber-optic telecommunication network. In this feature article, we first summarize the whereabouts underlying the design of highly luminescent NIR molecular edifices and materials. We then focus on describing the main trends in three applications related to this spectral range: telecommunications, biosciences, and solar energy conversion. In telecommunications, efforts concentrate presently on getting easily processable polymer-based waveguide amplifiers. Upconversion nanophosphors emitting in the visible after NIR excitation are now ubiquitous in many bioanalyses while their application to bio-imaging is still in its early stages; however, highly sensitive NIR-NIR systems start to be at hand for both in vitro and in vivo imaging, as well as dual probes combining magnetic resonance and optical imaging. Finally, both silicon-based and dye-sensitized solar cells benefit from the downconversion and upconversion capabilities of lanthanide ions to harvest UV and NIR solar light and to boost the overall quantum efficiency of these next-generation devices. | Jean-Claude G. | 5 | Luminescent characterization of rare earth Dy^(3+) ion doped TiO_2 prepared by simple chemical co-precipitation method显示文摘Pure and rare-earth ion (Dy^(3+)) doped TiO_2 nanomaterials were prepared through a chemical coprecipitation method. The chemical composition, micro structure and optical properties were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-visible spectroscopy and photo luminescence (PL). XPS analysis reveals that Dy^(3+)ions are preferentially occupied in the TiO_2 crystallite lattices. Both the XRD and TEM analyses confirm that both the pure and Dy doped TiO_2 are in pure anatase phase and in nano size range, respectively. Also it is found that the maximum solubility limit for Dy^(3+) ions is found to be 0.4%in TiO_2 matrix, above which it occupies interstitials and/or crystallite surface of TiO_2 nanocrystals. From the UV-Vis spectroscopy studies it is found that Dy doping induces blue shift in TiO_2. | 7 | Heavy-ion and pulsed-laser single event effects in 130-nm CMOS-based thin/thick gate oxide anti-fuse PROMs显示文摘Single event effects of 1-T structure programmable read-only memory(PROM) devices fabricated with a 130-nm complementary metal oxide semiconductorbased thin/thick gate oxide anti-fuse process were investigated using heavy ions and a picosecond pulsed laser. The cross sections of a single event upset(SEU) for radiationhardened PROMs were measured using a linear energy transfer(LET) ranging from 9.2 to 95.6 MeV cm^2mg^(-1).The result indicated that the LET threshold for a dynamic bit upset was ~ 9 MeV cm^2mg^(-1), which was lower than the threshold of ~ 20 MeV cm^2mg^(-1) for an address counter upset owing to the additional triple modular redundancy structure present in the latch. In addition, a slight hard error was observed in the anti-fuse structure when employing209 Bi ions with extremely high LET values(~ 91.6 MeV cm^2mg^(-1)) and large ion fluence(~ 1×10~8 ions cm^(-2)). To identify the detailed sensitive position of a SEU in PROMs, a pulsed laser with a 5-μm beam spot was used to scan the entire surface of the device.This revealed that the upset occurred in the peripheral circuits of the internal power source and I/O pairs rather than in the internal latches and buffers. This was subsequently confirmed by a ^(181)Ta experiment. Based on the experimental data and a rectangular parallelepiped model of the sensitive volume, the space error rates for the used PROMs were calculated using the CRèME-96 prediction tool. | 8 | Iterative inversion of global magnetospheric information from energy neutral atom (ENA) images recorded by the TC-2/NUADU instrument显示文摘A method is presented for retrieving the magnetospheric ion distribution from En-ergetic Neutral Atom (ENA) measurements made by the NUADU instrument on the TC-2 spacecraft. Based on the already well-established method of constrained lin-ear inversion, an iterance technique suitable for the low count ENA measurements has been developed which is tolerant of the noise background. By the iterance technique, it is possible for the first time to simultaneously retrieve the magneto-spheric ion distribution and the exospheric neutral density, and further to recover global ENA emissions in three dimensions. The technique is applied to a repre-sentative ENA image recorded in energy channel 2 (protons: 50―81 keV) of the NUADU instrument during a major geomagnetic storm and it is, thereby, shown that the retrieval method developed provides a useful tool for extracting ion distribution information from ENA data. | S. | 9 | Effect of Sulfate Ions on YAG Powders Synthesized by Microwave Homogeneous Precipitation显示文摘Using Al(NO3)3·9H2O, NH4Al(SO4)2·12H2O, Y(NO3)3 as mother salts, and urea as precipitant, YAG nano-powders were synthesized by microwave homogeneous precipitation. The composition, morphology, and phase transformation of precursor were analyzed by IR, XRD and TEM. The size distribution of YAG powders was characterized using laser diffraction method. The results show that sulfate ions influence the dispersion, composition and morphology of the YAG precursors. | 10 | Evaluation of D113 cation exchange resin for the removal of Eu(Ⅲ) from aqueous solution显示文摘Batch adsorption experiments were conducted for the adsorption of Eu(Ⅲ) ions from aqueous solution by D113 resin. The results indicated that D113 resin could adsorb Eu(Ⅲ) ion effectively from aqueous solution. The adsorption was strongly dependent on pH of the medium with enhanced adsorption as the pH turned from 3.50 to 7.00 and the optimal adsorption condition was in HAc-NaAc medium with pH value of 6.50. The maximum uptake capacity of Eu(Ⅲ) ions was 290.9 mg/g D113 at 298 K, at an initial pH value of 6.50. The overall adsorption process was best described by Lagergren-first-order kinetics. When Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were tested, the latter had a better fit with the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters such as free energy (G) which were all negative, indicated that the adsorption of Eu(Ⅲ) ions onto D113 resin was spontaneous and the positive value of enthalpy (H) showed that the adsorption was endothermic in nature. Thomas model was applied to experimental column data to determine the characteristic parameters of column useful for process design. The electronic band structures of TiO2 films doped 3d transition metal ions have been analyzed by ab initio band calculations based on a self-consistent full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave method within the first-principle formalism. Influence of implantation on TiO2 films is examined by the method of UV-visible spectrometry. The results of experiment and calculation show that the optical band gap of TiO2 films is narrowed by ion implantation. In this work, a 3D sulfide intercalated NiFe-layered double hydroxide (NFL-S) hierarchical sorbent has been synthesized for selective heavy metal removal. The intercalation of sulfurated groups in the interlayer of the layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets endows NFL-S as a selective heavy metal ion filter;the selectivity of NFL-S for heavy metals is in the order of Pb^2+> Cu^2+≥ Zn^2+> Cd^2+> Mn^2+, and NFL-S has high kd values for Pb2+(~10^6 mL/g) and Cu2+(~10^5 mL/g). Scanning electron microscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the composition of the as-prepared nanoadsorbent. | 16 | Efficient improvement of 2.7 μm luminescence of Er^(3+):oxyfluoride glass containing gallium by Yb^(3+) ions codoping显示文摘Mid-infrared laser materials with low phonon energy have significant applications. However, the development of available glass systems for high-power laser gain medium have posed a great challenge.Therefore, we investigated the 2.7 μm spectroscopic properties of Er^(3+)/Yb^(3+) -codoped oxyfluoride glass containing gallium, which were prepared by typically melting and quenching methods. The 2.7 μm luminescence properties of the Er^(3+)/Yb^(3+)-codoped oxyfluoride glass containing gallium were recorded by a 980 nm laser diode. The Judde Ofelt parameters, decay curves, emission cross section, energy transfer efficiency and quantum efficiency were calculated. The maximum emission cross section of YbFGa-0.5 is 1.63 × 10^(-20) cm^2 by 980 nm excitation. The energy transfer efficiency is calculated to be77.8% for the YbFGa-0.5 glass around 2700 nm. The quantum efficiency at 1530 nm is 65.6%. | 17 | Effect of Mixing on Properties and Microstructure of Magnesium Oxychloride Cement显示文摘This paper investigated the effect of mixing on the properties of magnesium oxychloride cement, such as apparent viscosity, setting time, compressive strength, and specific strength as well. The phase composition and crystallographic structure of the cement were determined by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that the increases of stirring rate and mixing time change apparent viscosity distinctly, shorten setting time and enhance mechanical property. Magnesium oxychloride cement after mixing for 20 min exhibits the optimal mechanical performance. The effect of stirring rate on the phase composition of magnesium oxychloride cement dominates over the effect of mixing time. The increases of stirring rate and mixing time can increase the dispersion state and accelerate the neutralization, thus promoting the strength of magnesium oxychloride cement due to the formation of stable 5·1·8 phase, needle-like crystals and continuous crystalline structure in the whole cement matrix. | 19 | Tribocorrosion behavior of nickel-aluminium bronze sliding against alumina under the lubrication by seawater with different halide concentrations显示文摘The tribocorrosion failure mechanism of nickel-aluminium bronze(NAB) in different halide concentrations of seawater was studied using a pin-on-disc tribometer that was modified to conduct in-situ electrochemical detection during the sliding process. It has been reported that high-halide-concentration seawater provided a good lubricating effect, and thus reduced the coefficient of friction and wear rate of NAB during the tribocorrosion process. However, the existence of halide ions corroded the passive film and hindered the repassivation of the damaged areas in the wear track, resulting in an increased corrosion rate. In addition, the morphology of the wear scar revealed the occurrence of abrasive, delamination, and adhesive wear of NAB in seawater. For the whole range of halide concentration values, a positive synergy between wear and corrosion was proven, and the quantification of this synergy was discussed in detail. | 20 | Effects of cupric ions on the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy 5A02 in ethylene glycol–water solution显示文摘The effects of cupric ions on the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy 5A02 in ethylene glycol–water solutions were studied by potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical noise(EN),and complementary techniques including scanning electron microscopy(SEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). A positive corrosion potential and increased corrosion current were observed due to the deposition of copper. The results demonstrate that the main corrosion type was pitting and the increasing cupric ion concentration augmented the pitting density. The pits became larger and deeper as a result of the embedment of copper into the surface of the alloy. Cupric ions were preferentially deposited at the defects around the secondary phase,leading to the formation of Al–Cu microgalvanic couples,which increased the corrosion rate.
