1Modulatory effect of pineapple peel extract on lipid peroxidation,catalase activity and hepatic biomarker levels in blood plasma of alcoholinduced oxidative stressed rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the ability of the methanolic extract of pineapple peel to modulate alcohol-induced lipid peroxidation,changes in catalase activities and hepatic biochemical marker levels in blood plasma.Methods:Oxidative stress was induced by oral administration of ethanol(20%w/v) at a dosage of 5 niL/kg bw in rats.After 28 days of treatment,the rats were fasted overnight and sacrificed by cervical dislocation.Blood was collected with a 2 mL syringe by cardiac puncture and was centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 min.The plasma was analyzed to evaluate malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase activity,aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) concentrations.Results:Administration of alcohol caused a drastic increase(87.74%) in MDA level compared with the control.Pineapple peel extract significantly reduced the MDA level by 60.16%at 2.S mL/kg bw.Rats fed alcohol only had the highest catalase activity,treatment with pineapple peel extract at 2.5 mL/kg bw however, reduced the activity.Increased AST,ALP and ALT activities were observed in rats fed alcohol only respectively,treatment with pineapple peel extract drastically reduced their activities. 2Removal of hexavalent chromium in aquatic solutions by pomelo peel显示文摘This study investigated the removal of hexavalent chromium(Cr(VI)) in aqueous solutions using pomelo peel(PP) and FeCl3-modified pomelo peel(FPP) as novel biomass adsorbents.Batch adsorption experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of pH,time,temperature,initial concentration,and adsorbent dose on Cr(VI) removal by PP and FPP.The results show that the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI)was 21.55 mg/g for FPP and 0.57 mg/g for PP at a pH of 2.0 and a temperature of 40℃.The surface shape,microstructure,and chemical composition of FPP were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and compared with those of PP.The results show that the adsorption performance of FPP was much better than that of PP,indicating that FPP can be an alternative high-efficiency adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal.Qiong Wang Cong Zhou Yin-jie Kuang Zhao-hui Jiang Min Yang 2020Water Science and Engineering2020,13,1:6
3Antihydatic and immunomodulatory effects of Punica granatum peel aqueous extract in a murine model of echinococcosis显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of pomegranate peel aqueous extract(PGE) on the development of secondary experimental echinococcosis and on the viability of Echinococcux granulosus protoscoleces,and the immunomodulatory properties of PGE.Methods:Swiss mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with viable protoscoleces.Then,PGE was orally administered daily during cystic echinococcosis development.Cyst development and hepatic damage were macroscopically and histologically analyzed.The production of nitric oxide and TNF-α was assessed in plasma and the hepatic expression of iNOS.TNF-α,NF-κB and CD68 was examined.Moreover,protoscoleces were cultured and treated with different concentrations of PGE.Results:It was observed that in vitro treatment of protoscoleces caused a significant decrease in viability in a PGE-dose-dependent manner.In vivo,after treatment of cystic echinococcosis infected mice with PGE,a significant decrease in nitric oxide levels(P<0.000 1)and TNF-α levels(P<0.001) was observed.This decline was strongly related to the inhibition of cyst development(rate of hydatid cyst growth inhibition=63.08%) and a decrease in CD68 expression in both the pericystic layer of hepatic hydatid cysts and liver tissue(P<0.000 1).A significant diminution of iNOS,TNF-α and NF-κB expression was also observed in liver tissue of treated mice(P<0.000 1).Conclusions:Our results indicate an antihydatic scolicidal effect and immunomodulatory properties of PGE,suggesting its potential therapeutic role against Echinococcuss granulosus infection.Moussa Labsi Lila Khelifi Dalila Mezioug Imene Soufli Chafia Touil-Boukoffa 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,3:5
4Effect of Punica granatum peel extract on learning and memory in rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate potential memory enhancing effect of Punica granatum peel extract on rats.Methods:Healthy adult male albino rats of Wistar strain were used.Each group of 6 rats were administered either distilled water or 50 mg/kg of extract or 100 mg/kg of extract for 15 days and subjected to passive avoidance test or T-maze test.In the next phase rats were administered distilled water or 100 mg/kg of extract for 15 days and the rats were given injection diazepam before subjecting them to the tests.Results:The overall performance was better in test groups compared to control groups.Among the test groups,100 mg/kg rats performed better than 50 mg/kg.The effect on spatial learning parameters like mean number of alternations and mean percentage bias was more marked compared to retention testing parameters like latency. 100 mg/kg Punica extract treated group also improved performance of diazepam treated rats. 5Preparation of Hierarchically Interconnected Porous Banana Peel Activated Carbon for Methylene Blue Adsorption显示文摘Hierarchically interconnected porous activated carbon have high specific surface areas, large numbers of dye adsorption sites, and interconnected pores for dye molecule diffusion and transportation. We prepared hierarchically interconnected porous banana peel activated carbons(BPACs) via a green method involving hydrothermal pretreatment and KOH activation, and systematically tested its methylene blue(MB) adsorption capacity. SEM showed that the BPACs had an interconnected porous structure and high-porosity surface. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area was 601.21 m^2/g, the adsorption average pore diameter was 2.11 nm, and the total pore volume was 0.32 cm^3/g. The MB adsorption capacity increased with increasing temperature, initial MB concentration, and pH value; it decreased with increasing adsorbent dosage. The adsorption isotherms and kinetic results for MB adsorption on BPACs were best described by the Langmuir adsorption and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, respectively. BPACs have a well-developed hierarchically interconnected porous structure, which increase the MB adsorption capacity and removal efficiency. 6复杂性肾结石PCNL术中套叠扩张器金属鞘和塑料扩张器peel way鞘的应用体会显示文摘目的对比探讨套叠扩张器金属鞘和塑料扩张器peel way鞘应用于经皮肾镜碎石术中的安全性与有效性。方法回顾性分析2016年1月至2018年6月采用标准经皮肾镜单通道治疗多肾盏多发性或既往有患侧肾结石手术史或鹿角型等复杂性肾结石82例患者的临床手术资料,其中38例患者利用F9-F24套叠扩张器金属鞘建立经皮肾通道碎石,44例患者应用F10-F22塑料扩张器peel way鞘建立碎石通道清石。分别采集两组的一期结石清除率、扩穿、损伤、出血等并发症进行比较分析。结果 82例均一期成功建立经皮肾通道。金属鞘组与塑料鞘组一期结石清除率分别为:78.9%与77.3%,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);术中扩穿对侧肾盏比率分别为:7.9%与29.5%,差异显著(P<0.01);术中粘膜、通道损伤至明显出血分别为:18.4%与40.9%,差异显著(P<0.01)。结论在复杂性肾结石经皮肾镜碎石清石术中,F9-F24套叠扩张器金属鞘值得临床推广使用。汪训保 叶琼香 刘鑫国 陈进军 赵鹏飞 王智勇 徐皖丰 陶宝舟 2019世界最新医学信息文摘2019,0,43:2
7In situ synthesis of biomass-derived Ni/C catalyst by self-reduction for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone显示文摘Herein,we reported in situ synthesis of biomass-derived Ni/C catalyst by self-reduction with pomelo peel.Compared with the conventional method, which includes carbonization, activation, impregnation and reduction, the entire preparation process was simplified to two steps, which was more straightforward. This synthesis method was green as Ni/C can be prepared without any additional chemical and the self-reduction process was realized in N2, which can avoid using H2 thus averting some problems such as storage, transportation and safety of H2. 8Effect of garlic peel on growth,hematological parameters and disease resistance against Aeromonas hydrophila in African catfish Clarias gariepinus(Bloch) fingerlings显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of dietary doses of garlic(Allium sativum L.) peel on the hematological and disease resistance of African catfish[Glorias gariepinus(C.gariepinus)] fingerlings against the infections caused by opportunistic bacterial pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila.Methods:Powdered garlic peel was incorporated into the diets at(0%,0.5%,1.0% and 1.5%) and fed to catfish fingerlings for 20 days.After the feeding trial,biochemical(serum total protein,albumin and globulin),hematological parameters(white blood cells and red blood cells) of the fish were examined.Fish were challenged with Aeromona hydrophila(A.hydrophila) after 20 days of post feeding and percentage mortalities were recorded up to 10 days after post challenge.Results:Enhanced serum protein,albumin and globulin in fish fed with all the dosages of garlic peel when compared to control group.Significantly highest red blood cell and white blood cell counts were recorded in garlic peel incorporated diet fed groups compared to control group.The results also demonstrate that low survival rate(55.5±11.0)%in control groups and significantly higher survival rates were recorded in all the garlic peel fed groups after challenging with A.hydrophila.However no significant impact was noticed with regard to body weight gain,specific growth rate and food conversion ratio of fish fed with different levels of garlic peel inclusion and control group.Conclusions:These results indicate that garlic peel enhances the hematological parameters even at a low level(0.5%) incorporation and makes C. gariepinus highly immunopotent and more resistant to infection by A.hydrophila.Karthik Thanikachalam Marimuthu Kasi Xavier Rathinam 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,8:1
9Emission and performance study emulsi ed orange peel oil biodiesel in an aspirated research engine显示文摘This study paves the way on reducing smoke emission and NO_x emissions of research diesel engine by detailing the e ect of water addition in biodiesel. Fuel samples were prepared with di erent concentrations of water in orange peel oil biodiesel(94% waste orange peel oil biodiesel + 4% water + 2% Span 80(WOPOBDE1) and 90% waste orange peel oil biodiesel + 8% water + 2% Span 80(WOPOBDE2). Span 80 was employed as a nonionic surfactant, which emulsifies water in biodiesel. Experimental results revealed that the nitrogen oxides and smoke emission of orange peel oil biodiesel emulsion were reduced by 11%–19% and 3%–21%, respectively, compared to that of neat orange peel oil biodiesel(WOPOBD). In addition, the introduction of orange peel oil–water emulsions in the diesel engine considerably reduced the emissions of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. The overall hydrocarbon emission of WOPOBDE2 was 12.2% lower than that of WOPOBD and 16.3% lower than that of diesel. The overall CO emission of WOPOBDE2 was 17% lower than that of base fuel(WOPOBD) and 21.8% lower than that of diesel. 10Peel预后指数及Norris预后指数对估计急性心肌梗塞病人预后的价值显示文摘用 Peel 预后指数及 Norris 预后指数对我院住院急性心肌梗塞80例进行评分,探讨这两套预后指数在 AMI 病人近期预后估计方面的意义。结果提示:Peel 预后指数及 Norris 预后指数平均28天实际死亡率与标准死亡率呈良好相关性(γ分别为0.956和0.977)。因此,我们认为:Peel 预后指数和 Norris 预后指数选用项目容易取得,不需要复杂检查和昂贵的设备、结果可靠,具有实际应用价值,可以作为一般医院住院的 AMI 病人的预后判断的临床依据。陈秋雄 李光绍 1989广州医学院学报1989,0,1:1
11Formulation and evaluation of semisolid jelly produced by Musa acuminata Colla(AAA Group) peels显示文摘Objective:To study the jelly formulation produced by Musa acuminata Colla(AAA Group) peels and evaluate its antioxidant properties which are related to the product quality.Methods:The formulations of peel jelly were established under two-level full factorial designs within two blocks and one center point.Regarding response optimizer,the amount of sugar and citric acid was obtained;hence,the peel jellies were produced.The evaluation of antioxidant properties was conducted by using total phenolic content(TPC)assay and 1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical assay.Results:The TPC of peel powder varied from 91.8 to 602.26 mg gallic acid equivalents/100 g dry weight,and 5%-7% peel jellies had phenolic content ranging from 29.38 to 48.31 mg gallic acid equivalents/100 g dry weight.The results of DPPH test indicated that at 10 mg/mL,the peel powder showed 89% DPPH inhibition,while 7% peel jelly prominently exhibited 84% DPPH inhibition.The correlation between DPPH IC50 value and TPC of peel powder as well as peel jelly was quite reasonably high with correlation coefficient ranging from 0.843 7 to 0.995.Conclusions:TPC can be used as an indicator in assessing the antioxidant activity of fruits and vegetables.The present investigation reveals that TPC is mainly responsible for DPPH free radical scavenging capacity.Noor Azwani Mohd Rasidek Mariam Firdhaus Mad Nordin Kamyar Shameli 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,1:1
12Ameliorative properties of Iranian Trigonella foenum-graecum L. seeds and Punica granatum L. peel extracts in streptozotocin-induced experimental diabetic guinea pigs显示文摘Objective: To assess the ameliorative properties of Iranian Trigonella foenum-graecum L.(T. foenum-graecum) seeds and Punica granatum L.(P. granatum) peel extracts against streptozotocin-induced diabetes in male guinea pigs.Methods: Sixty guinea pigs were divided into six groups(10 guinea pigs per group).Group 1 consisted of normal animals. Groups 2 and 3 were treated with Iranian T. foenum-graecum seeds and P. granatum peel extract alone, respectively. Group 4 was treated with streptozotocin only; whereas Groups 5 and 6 receiving streptozotocin were treated with Iranian T. foenum-graecum seeds and P. granatum peel extract, respectively.All animals were treated for 30 days, and the body weight, blood and liver biochemical parameters were measured.Results: Guinea pigs exposed to streptozotocin showed an alteration in body weight gain, fasting glucose level, kidney function parameters(blood urea nitrogen and creatinine) as well as decreased serum and hepatic total protein level. In addition, it increased the cholesterol and triglyceride level, while decreasing the hepatic glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase activity, glycogen, glutathione content and hepatic catalase activity. 13Resistance index and browning mechanism of apple peel under high temperature stress显示文摘Apples are one of the most important economic crops worldwide.Because of global warming and an aggravation of environmental,abnormally high temperatures occur frequently in fruit-growing season and seriously affect normal fruit growth and reduce fruit quality and yield.We took five-year-old Ruixue’(Qinfu 1×Pink Lady;CNA20151469.1) fruits as test materials,and the ambient temperature during fruit development was monitored.The results showed that during the fruit-growing season,especially during the rapid growth stage (July to August),the maximum daily temperature exceeded 30℃ and lasted for more than 40 days.To determine the effects of high temperature stress on the apple fruit resistance,we treated expanding,veraison,and maturity-period fruits at different temperatures.It was found that the fruits of the expanding period showed strong resistance to high temperature stress,whereas during veraison and maturity,fruit resistance to high temperature stress decreased,and the fruit peel browning phenotype appeared.Meanwhile,the content of malonaldehyde (MDA),hydrogen peroxide (H_(2)O_(2)),and superoxide anion (O._(2)^(-)) in the peel gradually increased with increasing temperature.The content of total phenols,flavanol,and flavonoids in the peel decreased substantially at 45℃.Moreover,it was found that polyphenol oxidase gene (MdPPO1) was most sensitive to high temperature stress in apple.Furthermore,transient and stable MdPPO1 overexpression significantly promoted peel browning.The transgenic materials were more sensitive to high temperatures,and browning was more severe compared to non-genetically modified organism (WT).Stable MdPPO1 knockout calli obtained via clustered regularly interspersed short palindromic repeats (CRISPR/Cas9) gene knockout technology reduced the browning phenotype,and the resultant fruits were not sensitive to the effects of high temperature stress.Thus,MdPPO1 expression may be a key factor of high temperature-related changes observed in the browning phenotype that provides a scientific theoretical basis for the selection of high temperature-resistant varieties and apple cultivation and management in the future.Hui Wang Shuhui Zhang Zidun Wang Dongmei Li Leiyu Yan Yifeng Feng Xiaojie Liu Rongxin Chen Wenmin Fan Lulong Sun Zhengyang Zhao 2024Horticultural Plant Journal2024,10,2:0

15Effect of mangosteen(Garcinia mangostana Linn)peel extract on migration of endothelial cells treated with lipopolysaccharide显示文摘OBJECTIVE This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of mangosteen peel extract(MPE)on migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)treated with LPS.METHODS Cultured HUVECs were divided into five groups:normal(untreated)group,positive control group treated with LPS at dose of 20ng·mL-1 for 24 h,and groups pre-treated with LPS at dose of 20ng·mL-1 for 24 h followed by incubation with MPE at doses of 1,2,and 4-1μg·mL,respectively.HUVECs migration was evaluated using wound-healing migration assay after 24 h of treatment.RESULTS LPS significantly(P<0.05)impaired HUVECs migration compared to the normal.MPE at dose of 1μg·mL-1 increased migration of LPS-treated HUVECs significantly(P<0.05)compared to the positive control and near to the normal level.CONCLUSION The mangosteen peel extract is able to dose-dependently preserve the endothelial cells function.DianNUGRAHENNY NurPERMATASARI AdiantoJAYANAGARA TitinAndriWIHASTUTI DjangganSARGOWO 2015中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1:0
16Characterization of Potential Cellulose from Hylocereus Polyrhizus(Dragon Fruit)peel:A Study on Physicochemical and Thermal Properties显示文摘The strict environmental regulations to overcome the drawbacks of consumption and disposal of non-renewable synthetic materials have motivated this investigation.The physical,chemical,morphological,and thermal properties of Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder obtained from the raw materials were examined in this study.The physical properties analyzes of Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder discovered that the moisture content,density,and water holding capacity were 9.70%,0.45 g/cm^(3),and 98.60%,respectively.Meanwhile,the chemical composition analysis of Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder revealed that the powder was significantly high in cellulose contents(34.35%)from other bio-peel wastes.The crystallinity index of Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder was 32.76%,according to further X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis.The thermal stability of Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder was examined using thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and found thermally stable at 204℃.The morphological study via scanning electron microscopy(SEM)showed a shriveled and irregular geometry surface.Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder demonstrated the peak in the range representing the major functional groups responsible for pectin’s properties.Thus,the findings revealed that the Hylocereus Polyrhizus peel(HPP)powder has the potential for the development of biodegradable and renewable materials.Nurul Hanan Taharuddin Ridhwan Jumaidin Muhd Ridzuan Mansor Fahmi Asyadi Md Yusof Roziela Hanim Alamjuri 2023Journal of Renewable Materials2023,11,1:0
17What Is Left of Palestine’s Eighty-Year-Old Partition Plan?显示文摘In July 1937,Lord Peel’s Palestine Royal Commission report was given to the British government.This report concluded that the only solution for Palestine was the prototype principle of“two state for two nations”solution-a Jewish state and an Arab state.This was the first proposal for a partition plan in Palestine.Since then,throughout the 90 years,there have been over 20 recommendations for the solution of the struggle based on the two-state solution.The last,most recent,recommendations were The Camp David Accords drafted by Clinton in 2000,the Geneva Initiative in 2003,and Ehud Olmert’s Annapolis Plan in 2008.It appears that the differences between the sides are many,too many to enable reaching an agreement regarding two states.What has happened over the last 80 years since then?Is a two state solution,after over 100 years of Arab-Jews conflict in the Holy Land,still possible?This article shows the long road the partition plan has taken in Palestine and suggests a new look about the partition that already exist.Shaul Bartal 2018International Relations and Diplomacy2018,6,7:0
18Valorization of the agro-industrial by-products of bacupari(Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.))through production of flour with bioactive properties显示文摘Brazil has a wide variety of fruits that remain insufficiently explored.To encourage the use of one such fruit,the bacupari((Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.)),the current study produced flours from its by-products(the peel and seed)at two maturation stages and subsequently evaluated their proximate composition,physical,antioxidant,bioactive,microstructural and thermal properties.The results revealed that the flours have a high in fiber content(>15%)and are a potential source of protein(>5%).Seed flour has an energy value similar to that of wheat flour and other conventional flours.Seed flour micrographs indicate the presence of starch,a fact confirmed by viscosity analysis.The flours contain phenolic compounds and exhibit antioxidant activity,especially the unripe peel flour.Among the compounds identified by chromatography,those present in the greatest concentrations were quinine(≅111μg/g),p-coumaric acid(≅25μg/g),m-coumaric acid(≅15μg/g),and formononetin(≅21μg/g),all of which are known to have several human health benefits.Seed flour crystallinity diminished as the fruit ripened.Peel flour exhibited similar thermal transitions but less thermal stability than seed flour.In summary,this study revealed that flours produced from the peel and seeds of bacupari,which are generated in large quantities as agro-industrial by-products,can be used as alternative ingredients in various sectors of the food industry.Anely Maciel de Melo Rafaela Cristina Turola Barbi Bruno Patrício Costa Mˆonica Ikeda Danielle Carpine Rosemary Hoffmann Ribani 2022Food Bioscience2022,45,1:0
19Well-dispersive K2O-KCl alkaline catalyst derived from waste banana peel for biodiesel synthesis显示文摘In this work, a novel alkaline catalyst was synthesized by an economical and effective method of roasting waste banana peel. From XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, TGA and CO2-TPD characterization, it was proved that the calcined banana peel catalyst showed the strong alkalinity and well dispersity in microstructure, and K2O-KCl as the main active contents. The calcined banana peel catalyst showed better catalytic performance than the catalysts by physical mixing of K2O and KCl, which was due to good dispersibility of K2O-KCl formed during decomposing of carbon fiber by calcination of banana peel.
