1Danshen: a phytochemical and pharmacological overview显示文摘Danshen, the dried root or rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., is a traditional and folk medicine in Asian countries, especially in China and Japan. In this review, we summarized the recent researches of Danshen in traditional uses and preparations, chemical constituents, pharmacological activities and side effects. A total of 201 compounds from Danshen have been reported, including lipophilic diterpenoids, water-soluble phenolic acids, and other constituents, which have showed various pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-atherogenesis, and anti-diabetes. 2Efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction in patients with knee osteoarthritis:a multi-center,single-blind,randomized controlled trial显示文摘PURPOSE: To observe the efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction(SYXBD) in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA), and to verify that the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone' in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) can be applied to KOA treatment.METHODS: Participants were randomly allocated to two groups: SYXBD(treatment group, n = 66)and Meloxicam(control group, n = 66). Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36) were used to assess efficacy before the treatment and 8 weeks after the treatment.RESULTS: Baseline data before the treatment between the two groups were similar. The WOMAC scores significantly decreased and the SF-36 scores significantly increased after 8-week treatment in both groups compared with before the treatment(P < 0.05). SYXBD significantly decreased pain scores(P < 0.001), physical function scores(P <0.001) and the total scores(P < 0.001) in WOMAC compared to Meloxicam. SYXBD significantly improved physical function(P = 0.021), bodily pain(P = 0.002) and general health(P = 0.014), with no significant difference in role emotional(P = 0.053),role physical(P = 0.517), vitality(P = 0.241), social function(P = 0.712) and mental health(P = 0.800)in SF-36 compared to Meloxicam. No adverse events were reported in the treatment group while13 adverse events happened in the control group during the study.CONCLUSION: SYXBD, prepared based on the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone', has a better curative efficay and safety in patients with KOA compared with Meloxicam. 4Therapeutic role of template-based lymphadenectomy in urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract显示文摘Lymphadenectomy for urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract has attracted the attention of physicians. The mapping study of lymphatic spread has shown that a relatively wide area should comprise the regional nodes for tumors of the right renal pelvis or the right upper two-thirds of the ureter. A prospective study showed that an anatomical templatebased lymphadenectomy significantly improved patient survival in tumors of the renal pelvis. This benefit was more evident for patients with p T2 stage tumors or higher. The risk of regional node recurrence is significant reduced by template-based lymphadenectomy,which is likely to be associated with improved patient survival. The removal of lymph node micrometastases is assumed to be the reason for therapeutic benefit following lymphadenectomy. The number of resected lymph nodes can be used to assess the quality of lymphadenectomy,but not to determine the extent of lymphadenectomy. The guidelines currently recommend lymphadenectomy for patients with muscle-invasive disease,even though the current recommendation grades are still low. The present limitation of lymphadenectomy is the lack of standardization of the extent of lymphadenectomy and the randomized trials. 7Land cover changes and fragmentation in mountain neotropical ecosystems of Oaxaca, Mexico under community forest management显示文摘Changes in land cover have a direct impact on forest ecosystem goods and services. In this study, changes in land cover in Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca ecosystems were estimated using a consistent processing of Landsat images and OBIA methodology. Additionally, landscape analyses using FRAGSTAT were conducted. In 2014, Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca was covered by approximately 84% of forests, mainly pine-oak and cloud forests. After extensive deforestation until 2001, this trend was reversed and the forest cover surface area in 2014 was slightly higher than in 1979. The comparison of the landscape structure of the forested and agricultural lands suggests an increase in habitat heterogeneity. However, interspersion and juxtaposition indices, showing the patch shape by patch area and perimeter, were similar throughout the study period(1979–2014). Social and economic drivers can explain this situation: namely, community organization, forest enterprises, payment for ecosystem services programs, and changes of agricultural activity. Communities in the Sierra of Oaxaca have reforested degraded lands, created community forest enterprises, and preserved the forest under conservation schemes like those proposed by the Mexican payment for ecosystem services programs. 8Syzygium cumini(L.)Skeels:A review of its phytochemical constituents and traditional uses显示文摘Syzygium cumini(S.cumini)(L.) Skeels(jambolan) is one of the widely used medicinal plants in the treatment of various diseases in particular diabetes.The present review has been primed to describe the existing data on the information on botany,phytochemical constituents,traditional uses and pharmacological actions of 5.cumini(L.) Skeels(jambolan).Electronic database search was conducted with the search terms of Eugenia jambolana,S.cumini,jambolan,common plum and java plum.The plant has been viewed as an antidiabetic plant since it became commercially available several decades ago.During last four decades,numerous folk medicine and scientific reports on the antidiabetic effects of this plant have been cited in the literature.The plant is rich in compounds containing anthocyanins,glucoside,ellagic acid,isoquercetin,kaemferol and myrecetin.The seeds are claimed to contain alkaloid,jambosine,and glycoside jambolin or antimellin,which halts the diastalic conversion of starch into sugar.The vast number of literatures found in the database revealed that the extracts of different parts of jambolan showed significant pharmacological actions.We suggest that there is a need for further investigation to isolate active principles which confer the pharmacological action.Hence identification of such active compounds is useful for producing safer drugs in the treatment of various ailments including diabetes.Muniappan Ayyanar Pandurangan Subash-Babu 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,3:4
9Biotechnological intervention in Betelvine(Piper betle L.):A review on recent advances and future prospects显示文摘Betelvine(Piper betle L.) is cultivated for its deep green heart shaped leaf for(15-20) million Indian and 2 billion foreign consumers annually. The crop provides Rs(6 000-7 000) million of national income per year and at the same time leaves worth Rs(30-40) million is exported to other countries. The leaves are not only used directly for chewing purposes but also possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, anti-cancer and anti-microbial properties. Besides, the leaves also contain eugenol rich essential oil(1%-3%) which is the source for medicine, stimulant, antiseptic, tonic and other ayurvedic formulations. The essential oil also contains chavibetol, caryophyllene and methyl eugenol which are the potent source for preparation in ayurvedic medicine and herbal products. Cost of betelvine essential oil is 10$ per 5 mL. In spite of its great economical and medicinal importance betelvine is still neglected by the researchers for proper characterization and authentication for selection of elite landraces. Lack of awareness among people, use of same planting material for many generations, existing of many synonyms for a single landraces, no proper characterization of available landraces are some of the significant constraints for its commercialization. Our review endeavours a complete advance in the research on betelvine, existing lacunae for its proper characterization and commercial cultivation. 10Microcos paniculata: a review on its botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry and pharmacology显示文摘The shrub Microcos paniulata(MPL;Tiliaceae), distributed in south China, south and southeast Asia, yields a phytomedicine used to treat heat stroke, fever, dyspepsia, diarrhea, insect bites and jaundice. Phytochemical investigations on different parts of MPL indicate the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, triterpenoids and organic acids. The MPL leaves, fruits, barks and roots extracts showed antidiarrheal, antimicrobial and insecticidal, anti-inflammation, hepatoprotective, cardiovascular protective, blood lipids reducing, analgesic, jaundice-relieving and antipyretic activities, etc. The review aims to summary the traditional uses, botany,phytochemistry, pharmacological bioactivity, quality control, toxicology and potential mechanisms of MPL. 12Empirical Research on Influencing Factors of Cultivation Land Intensive Use in Chongqing显示文摘Taking Chongqing as example, the paper ascertains the influencing factors of cultivation land intensive use from aspects of land conditions, family conditions and land operation conditions and theoretically expects the influencing relations of factors to the intensive uses. Collecting the land conditions, family conditions and land operation conditions through surveys, analyzes each influencing factors in a statistical description way. Constructing the empirical model, calculates the relations of land intensive use to the influencing factors with SPSS. The calculation results show a significant inverse correlation between land intensive use and land area, the space between land and counties, family members, the number of migrant workers, types of cultivation land, land transfer conditions. There is a significant positive correlation between land use and family average income, land investment. 13探寻药用植物及其临床应用的发展趋势(英文)显示文摘Plant biodiversity has been source of myriad forms of natural substances utilized in similarly multiple ways.The history of medicinal and aromatic plant(MAP)utilization dates back to the beginnings of mankind.Our forefathers used plants they could find in nature,to ease,cure their sufferings,illnesses,or heal their wounds.This type of approach has survived in the traditional medicinal(TM)uses,until today,since nearly 80% of the world population still relies on MAPs in their medications(Akerele,1992).Especially rich are the traditions in China and India,where TMs have been used for thousands of years.The use of TM,however,goes well beyond these countries.It has been estimated that more than 1.5 billion people all over the world are trusting in the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine(Wang and Franz,2014).The renaissance of MAP-use in the high-income countries has brought about different types of use i.e.:in the form of Herbal Medicines(CAM=Complementary and Alternative Medicine).MAPs have become″industrial products″with versatile and innovative new concepts in phytotherapy and veterinary medicine,aromatherapy,nutraceuticals,cosmeceuticals,animal welfare,etc.New,innovative,value added applications include MAP use in functional foods,animal husbandry,as well as plant protection in agriculture.The versatile utilization of essential oils is most promising.MAPs are sourced from both wild-crafting and cultivation,where quality is primarily determined by the genotype,the environment and the conditions during the life cycle of the plant.Processing to preserve/isolate their active principles is an additional precondition for the safety and efficacy in use.Current areas of utilization constitute powerful drivers for the exploitation of these natural resources.Increasing demands,coupled with the already limited availability and potential exhaustion of natural resources,make it necessary to take stock of both our resources and our knowledge regarding research and development,production,trade and utilization,especially in view of sustainability National/international regulatory authorities have elaborated guidelines(GACP,GMP and GLP)to be included in quality assurance systems.The entire production system should observe these practices and this fact should be continuously documented,certified.Modern approaches in production and use have called attention to the importance of quality,safety and efficacy of both MAPs and their produce.There is also a need to ensure the quality of medicinal plant products by using modern sample preparation and control techniques as well as suitable standards.In Europe,this regards also the quality of TCM herbals.Their quality assurance systems should guarantee that they can be freely imported into the European Union and other Western European Countries(Wang and Franz,2014).A new aspect in quality assurance is the trend for the protection of′geographical indication′(GI)botanicals in the context of intellectual property rights.MAPs will also maintain their importance in the search for new,valuable sources of drugs and lead compounds.The ultimate aim would be to use MAPs with welldefined and constant composition.There is a need to ensure the quality of medicinal plant products by using modern sample preparation and control techniques.Thepharmacological effects of herbs are caused by the interaction several biologically active principles,therefore,the present clinical testsaimed at single chemicals,are also not really adequate.Todate,the lesson worthily worded by the Chiang Mai Declaration(1988)is more than valid:″Let us save plants that Save Lives″.Ákos MÁTHÉ 2015中国药理学与毒理学杂志2015,29,S1:0
14Ethnobotanical and traditional uses, phytochemical constituents and biological activities of Eryngium species growing in Iran显示文摘Objective: Eryngium with the 274 accepted species, is the largest genus of Apiaceae family which are distributed all over the world and have been used in traditional remedies to manage various ailments in different nations. Ten species of Eryngium have been identified in Iran including E. caeruleum M.B.(syn: E. caucasicum Trautv.), E. creticum Lam., E. bungei Boiss., E. billardieri F. Delaroche.(syn: E. kotschyi Boiss.), E. glomeratum Lam.(syn: E. parviflorum Sm.), E. bornumulleri Nab., E. pyramidale Boiss.& Husson., E. noeanum Boiss., E. wanaturi Woron.(syn: E. woronowii Bordz.), and E. thyrsoideum Boiss. The aim of the present research is to review pharmacological activity, and phytochemical constituents as well as ethnobotany and traditional uses of Iranian species of Eryngium. Materials and methods: Electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct (ISI Web of Knowledge) and Embase library were comprehensively searched for research on Eryngium. The search period was from 1966 to October 2018. The related articles were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criterias in our study. Results: A total of 57 papers were enrolled in analyses. The findings showed that Iranian species of Eryngium, had a noticeable diverse of traditional medicinal uses and also broad range of pharmacological activities as well as various phytochemical compounds. Some remarkable biological and pharmacological activities of these species have been demonstrated in present scientific studies, including antimicrobial, cytotoxic and anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antinociceptive activities as well as antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-snake and anti-scorpion venom effects. 15Socio-economic importance and utilization of Spondias mombin in Nigeria显示文摘Objective:To investigate the socio-economics and medicinal utilization of Spondia monbin, commonly known as plum in English and iyeye in Yoruba.Methods:Three communities were selected in Abeokuta which was Itoku,Kuto,and Omida using purposive random sampling technique because of the concentration of users in the area.Structured questionnaire was administered to randomly selected marketers,consumers and herbalists from the three communities.Utilization and marketing margin were descriptively analyzed.Results:The results showed that the leaves were being used for child birth aid,cough,sore throat,efu dudu,antiseptic soap,malaria and stomachic.The bark uses included child birth aid,inflammation concoction, fever,stomachic,malaria,and efu dudu.The uses of the fruit included cure for dizziness, stomachic,eaten as food,and fibroid.The seed were also being used for child birth aid,fibroid, and stomachic.The marketing margin analyses revealed that trading on the plants was profitable with the bark having the highest margin which showed the level of its profitability.Conclusions: The study reveals the medicinal potentials and the socioeconomic importance of Spondia mombin hence the need to conserve the species from unsustainable exploitation to ensure its availability.Adedokun MO Oladoye AO Oluwalana SA Mendie Ⅱ 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,3:0
