| 1 | Measurement of ecological capital of Chinese terrestrial ecosystem based on remote sensing显示文摘The biosphere of the Earth is essential to human survival and development. The services of ecosystems are critical to the functioning of the Earth’s life-support system. They contribute to human welfare both directly and indirectly. Ecological capital refers to the sum of the direct biological resources value and the indirect ecosystem services value. It is necessary to estimate the ecological capital in order to bring it to the society and market economic system, and draw the social attention to ecological environment constructions. An estimation model for eco-logical capital based on remote sensing is presented in this paper. The parameters in the model are quantitatively measured using NOAA/AVHRR and other ancillary data, including the land cover types, the vegetation coverage, and the vegetation net primary productivity (NPP) of ter-restrial ecosystem. Based on the economic parameters in previously published studies and a few original calculations, the annual ecological capital of the entire terrestrial ecosystem of China is quantitatively estimated at 6.44 trillion (1012) yuan (RMB), and the spatial distribution of the eco-logical capital is also analyzed. Traditional ecological methods to ecological capital measurement are based on homogeneous plot scales, and the regional scaling is a key problem in their appli-cations. As the proposed remote sensing approach, it provides a new method to ecological capital measurement completely based on observation data. | 2 | Optimum segmentation of simple objects in high-resolution remote sensing imagery in coastal areas显示文摘The optimum segmentation of ground objects in a landscape is essential for interpretation of high-resolution remotely sensed imagery and detection of objects; and it is also a technical foundation to efficiently use spatial information in remote sensing imagery. Landscapes are complex system composed of a large number of heterogeneous components. There are many explicit homogeneous image objects that have similar spectral character and yet differ from surrounding objects in high-resolution remote sensing imagery. Thereby, a new concept of Distinctive Feature of fractal is put forward and used in deriving Distinctive Feature curve of fractal evolution in multiscale segmentation. Through distinguishing the extremum condition of Distinctive Feature curve and the inclusion relationship of fractals in multiscale representation the Scalar Order is built. This can help to determinate the optimum scale in image segmentation for simple-objects, and the potential meaningful image-object fitting the intrinsic scale of the dominant landscape object can be obtained. | 3 | Estimation of chlorophyll-a concentration in the Zhujiang Estuary from SeaWiFS data显示文摘The chlorophyll-a concentration is generally overestimated for the southem China coastal waters if the default algorithm of the SeaDAS is employed. An algorithm is developed for retrieval of chlorophyll-a concentration in the Zhujiang Estuary, Guangdong Province, China, by using simulated reflectance data. The simulated reflectance is calculated corresponding to the SeaWiFS wavelength bands, via a general model by inputting measured water components, I.e., the suspended sediment,chlorophyll-a, and yellow substance (DOC) concentration data of 130 samples. Empirical relationships of the chlorophyll-a concentration to 240 different band combinations are investigated based on the simulated reflectance data, and the band combination, R5R6/R3R4, is found to be the optimum one for the development of an algorithm valid for the Zhujiang Estuary. This algorithm is then employed to determine the chlorophyll-a concentration from SeaWiFS data. The estimated concentrations have a better accuracy than those obtained from the SeaDAS default algorithm when comnpared with sea truth data. | 4 | Genetic inverse algorithm for retrieval of component temperature of mixed pixel by multi-angle thermal infrared remote sensing data显示文摘After carefully studying the results of retrieval of land surface temperature(LST) by multi-channel thermal infrared remote sensing data, the authors of this paper point out that its accuracy and significance for applications are seriously damaged by the high correlation coefficient among multi-channel information and its disablement of direct retrieval of component temperature. Based on the model of directional radiation of non-isothermal mixed pixel, the authors point out that multi-angle thermal infrared remote sensing can offer the possibility to directly retrieve component temperature, but it is also a multi-parameter synchronous inverse problem. The results of digital simulation and field experiments show that the genetic inverse algorithm (GIA) is an effective method to fulfill multi-parameter synchronous retrieval. | 5 | Spatial scaling of net primary productivity model based on remote sensing显示文摘Spatial scaling for net primary productivity (NPP) refers to the transferring process of establishing quantitative correlation between simulated NPP derived from data at different spatial resolutions. How to transfer NPP at one scale by the algorithm with smaller error to at another is the urgent problem. Nonlinearity and effects from land cover type are two main problems in NPP scaling. In this paper, the contextural approach based on mixed pixels and support vector machine (SVM) algorithm are used to make the scaling model from the fine resolution (TM) to the coarse resolution (MODIS). Spatial scaling from NPP retrieved from fine resolution data to NPP derived from coarse resolution images is performed, and the correction of scale effect to NPP retrieved from coarse resolution data of MODIS is accomplished. The result shows that the correlation between Rj_coereted of the correction factor for scale effect and 1-Fmiddle dessity grassland estimated by SVM regression model is higher (R2=0.81). Before the correction for scale effect, the correlation between NPPMODIS and NPPTM is lower (R2=0.69; RMSE=3.47), while the correlation between NPPTM and corrected NPPMODIS_corrected is higher (R2=0.84; RMSE= 1.87). | 7 | Monitoring on soil erosion and sediment delivery at a typical basin of the middle and lower reaches of the Jialing River by remote sensing显示文摘The monitoring work was performed on soil erosion in Lizixi drainage area respectively in 1986 and 1999 by multiple methods with the information extracted from the Landsat TM imagery and Spot imagery. The variation of erosion quantity in this area is calculated based on the monitoring result of the erosion intensity and area in these two years. The change of sediment delivery is also analyzed. The research result shows that compared to 1986, in 1999, the erosion area reduced, especially for the area of moderate intensity and above, and the intensity and quantity of erosion decreased. Compared to this period from 1965 to 1986, the sediment delivery ratio has been changed from 0.27 to 0.11 after 1986. | 8 | Determination of regional distribution of crop transpiration and soil water use efficiency using quantitative remote sensing data through inversion显示文摘A two-layer model used to get the estimated values of crop transpiration by inversion using remote sensing data, which has been proved effective at some agricultural-ecological sta-tions, is first discussed. An important part of it is the temperature separation model (in which thesurface temperature in a mixed pixel is separated into soil surface temperature and crop canopysurface temperature) on the basis of bi-temporal radiometric temperature in a mixed pixel and its thermal inertia. | 9 | Principle and application of three-band gradient difference vegetation index显示文摘Vegetation index is a simple, effective and experiential measurement of terrestrial vegetation activity, and plays a very important role in qualitative and quantitative remote sensing. Aiming at shortages of current vegetation indices, and starting from the analysis of vegetation spectral characteristics, we put forward a new vegetation index, the three-band gradient difference vegetation index (TGDVI), and established algorithms to inverse crown cover fraction and leaf area index (LAI) from it. Theoretical analysis and model simulation show that TGDVI has high saturation point and the ability to remove the influence of background to some degree, and the explicit functional relation with crown cover fraction and LAI can be established. Moreover, study shows that TGDVI also has the ability to partly remove the influence of thin cloud. Experiment in the Shunyi District, Beijing, China shows that reasonable result can be reached using the vegetation index to retrieve LAI. We also theoretically analyzed the reason why the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) owns the low saturation point, and show that it is determined by the definition of NDVI and the characteristic of vegetation spectra, and is unavoidable to some degree. | 10 | Mapping forest fire risk zones with spatial data and principal component analysis显示文摘By integrating forest inventory data with remotely sensed data, new data layers for factors that affect forest fire potentials were generated for Baihe Forestry Bureau in Jilin Province of China. The principle component analysis was used to sort out the relationships between forest fire potentials and environmental factors. The classifications of these factors were performed with GIS, generating three maps: a fuel-based fire risk map, a topography-based fire risk map, and an anthropogenic-factor fire risk map. These three maps were then synthesized to generate the final fire risk map. The linear regression method was used to analyze the relationship between an area-weighted value of forest fire risks and the frequency of historical forest fires at each forest farm. | 13 | SST diurnal warming in the China seas and northwestern Pacific Ocean using MTSAT satellite observations显示文摘Hourly sea surface temperature(SST) observations from the geostationary satellite are increasingly used in studies of the diurnal warming of the surface oceans. The aim of this study is to derive the spatial and temporal distribution of diurnal warming in the China seas and northwestern Pacific Ocean from Multi-functional Transport Satellite(MTSAT) SST. The MTSAT SST is validated against drifting buoy measurements firstly. It shows mean biases is about –0.2°C and standard deviation is about 0.6°C comparable to other satellite SST accuracy. The results show that the tropics, mid-latitudes controlled by subtropical high and marginal seas are frequently affected by large diurnal warming. The Kuroshio and its extension regions are smaller compared with the surrounding regions. A clear seasonal signal, peaking at spring and summer can be seen from the long time series of diurnal warming in the domain in average. It may due to large insolation and low wind speed in spring and summer, while the winter being the opposite. Surface wind speed modulates the amplitude of the diurnal cycle by influencing the surface heat flux and by determining the momentum flux. For the shallow marginal seas, such as the East China Sea, turbidity would be another important factor promoting diurnal warming. | 14 | Calculating soil moisture by remote sensing and analyzing hydrologic cycle process in the Yellow River basin显示文摘Based on the AVHRR pathfinder remote sensing data, soil moisture, precipitation and evaporation during the period of 1982—1998, soil moisture of all layers of soil-profile (0—1 m) in the Yellow River basin over the 17 years are calculated by the remote sensing model of calculating soil water. The Yellow River basin is divided into seven subcatchments as control sections at the location of six hydrologic stations (Lanzhou, Toudaoguai, Longmen, Sanmenxia, Huayuankou and Lijin). After calculating soil moisture and obtaining runoff data and precipitation data, the dynamical features of hydrological cycle in the Yellow River basin are analyzed for the period from 1982 to 1988 using water balance method. The conclusions are as follows: It is feasible to calculate the soil water on the macro-scale, in the soil profile with temporal continuity by means of remote sensing and survey in land. Some values of the key water cycle factors in the Yellow River are obtained, which include the annual precipitation of 4000 km3, the evapotranspiration of 3000-3500 km3, and the soil moisture transformation of ?500- 500 km3. Consequently, we analyzed the process of the water cycle in the Yellow River over the 17 years, and the results show that the segment upstream of Lanzhou city is a relatively humid region, and the area of internal waters and the reaches of Shanshan is the most desiccated region. | 15 | Study of Sand Dunes and Their Effect on Desertification of Cultivated Lands in Shaanxi Province, China Using Remote Sensing Techniques显示文摘About half of the arid and semi arid lands in the world are deserts that comprise various types of aeolian sand dunes deposits. In Shaanxi Province, aeolian sand dunes cover considerable areas of the Yulin desert and northern Jinbian. Sand dunes are moving in the main wind direction and converting some agricultural area to wasteland. Remote sensing of sand dunes helps in the understanding of aeolian process and desertification. Remote sensing data combined with field studies are valuable in studying sand dunes, regional aeolian depositional history. In particular, active and inactive sand dunes of the north Shaanxi Province were studied using remote sensing and geographic information system. In this study, we describe the Landsat thematic mapper (TM) images, covering north Shaanxi Province, which were used to study the distribution, shape, size, trends, density and movement of sand dunes and their effect on desertification of cultivated lands. Estimation was made depending on soil erodibility factor ( Ⅰ ) and local climatic factor ( C ) during the period (June to September). The result indicates that soil erosion caused sand drift of 8.957 5, 7.03 ton for Yulin and Jinbian, respectively. The mean sand dunes movement rate were 4.37, 3.11 m, whereas, monthly sand dune advance rate were 1.092 5, 0.777 5 m, for the two locations, respectively. The study reveals that cultivated lands extended obliquely to the direction of sand dune movement are extremely affected, while other segments that extend parallel to the direction of the movement are not affected. Accordingly the north Shaanxi Province was divided into areas of different classes of potential risk. The study result in this paper shows that the highest temperature is found in the Bangong Co-Nujiang River suture belt, the Yarlung Zangbo River suture belt temperature is the second highest, and the northern Tibet temperature is the lowest. The study demonstration area was the suture belt areas of the Yarlung Zangbo River and the Bangong Co-Nujiang River in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the land temperature of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the bore temperature of field land surface were measured and the emissivity of land surface was calculated.
