p16 promoter hypermethylation:A useful serum marker for early detection of gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To determine p16 promoter hypermethylation in gastric tumoral tissue and serum samples, its impact on p16-protein expression, and correlation with clinical and histological features. METHODS: Samples were obtained from 52 histologically confirmed cases of gastric adenocarcinoma. Gastric tissue and serum of 50 age- and sex-matched individuals with normal gastroscopy and biopsy were obtained as control samples. Methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP) was used to evaluate methylation status of p16 promoter. p16-protein expression was analyzed by immunohistochemical staining on paraffin-embedded sections. RESULTS: Methylation was detected in 44.2% (23/52) of tumoral tissues. 60.9% of them were also methylated in serum, i.e., 26.9% of all patients (14/52). Methylation was not detected in tissue and sera of control samples. p16-protein expression was decreased in 61.5% of cases (32/52), and was significantly associated with promoter hypermethylation (P < 0.001). Methylation was significantly more frequent in higher pathological grades (P < 0.05). Methylation was not associated with other clinicopathological features and environmental factors including H pylori infection and smoking. CONCLUSION: p16 promoter hypermethylation is an important event in gastric carcinogenesis. It is the principle mechanism of p16 gene silencing. It is related to malignant tumor behavior. Detection of DNA methylation in serum may be a biomarker for early detection of gastric cancer.Mohammad Reza Abbaszadegan Omeed Moaven Hamid Reza Sima Kamran Ghafarzadegan Azadeh A'rabi Mohammad Naser Forghani Hamid Reza Raziee Ali Mashhadinejad Mostafa Jafarzadeh Ehsan Esmaili-Shandiz Ezzat Dadkhah 2008World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,13:50
Therapeutic potential of flavonoids in inflammatory bowel disease: A comprehensive review显示文摘The inflammatory process plays a central role in the development and progression of numerous pathological situations, such as inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disorders. IBDs involve inflammation of the gastrointestinal area and mainly comprise Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC). Both pathological situations usually involve recurring or bloody diarrhea, pain, fatigue and weight loss. There is at present no pharmacological cure for CD or UC. However, surgery may be curative for UC patients. The prescribed treatment aims to ameliorate the symptoms and prevent and/or delay new painful episodes. Flavonoid compounds are a large family of hydroxylated polyphenolic molecules abundant in plants, including vegetables and fruits which are the major dietary sources of these compounds for humans, together with wine and tea. Flavonoids are becoming very popular because they have many health-promoting and disease-preventive effects. Most interest has been directed towards the antioxidant activity of flavonoids, evidencing a remarkable free-radical scavenging capacity. However, accumulating evidence suggests that flavonoids have many other biological properties, including anti-inflammatory,antiviral,anticancer,and neuroprotective activities through different mechanisms of action. The present review analyzes the available data about the different types of flavonoids and their potential effectiveness as adjuvant therapy of IBDs.Ali Salaritabar Behrad Darvishi Farzaneh Hadjiakhoondi Azadeh Manayi Antoni Sureda Seyed Fazel Nabavi Leo R Fitzpatrick Seyed Mohammad Nabavi Anupam Bishayee 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,28:10

Tribological behaviour of AZ31 magnesium alloy reinforced by bimodal size B_(4)C after precipitation hardening显示文摘This study investigated dry sliding wear properties of AZ31 magnesium alloy and B_(4)C-reinforced AZ31 composites containing 5, 10, and 20 wt.% B_(4)C with bimodal sizes under different loadings(10-80 N) at various sliding speeds(0.1-1 m/s) via the pin-on-disc configuration.Microhardness evaluations showed that when the distribution of B_(4)C particles was uniform the hardness of the composites increased by enhancing the reinforcement content. The unreinforced alloy and the composite samples were examined to determine the wear mechanism maps and identify the dominant wear mechanisms in each wear condition and reinforcement content. For this purpose, wear rates and friction coefficients were recorded during the wear tests and worn surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry analyses. The determined wear mechanisms were abrasion, oxidation, delamination, adhesion, and plastic deformation as a result of thermal softening and melting. The wear evaluations revealed that the composites containing 5 and 10 wt.% B_(4)C had a significantly higher wear resistance in all the conditions. However, 20 wt.% B_(4)C/AZ31 composite had a lower resistance at high sliding speeds(0.5-1 m/s) and high loadings(40-80 N) in comparison with the unreinforced alloy. The highest wear resistance was obtained at high sliding speeds and low loadings with the domination of oxidative wear.Seyed Kiomars Moheimani Azadeh Keshtgar Saeed Khademzadeh Morteza Tayebi Ali Rajaee Abdollah Saboori 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,11:0
COVID-19 or non-COVID viral pneumonia:How to differentiate based on the radiologic findings?显示文摘Influenza viruses were responsible for most adult viral pneumonia.Presently, coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has evolved into serious global pandemic.COVID-19 outbreak is expected to persist in months to come that will be synchronous with the influenza season. The management, prognosis, and protection for these two viral pneumonias differ considerably and differentiating between them has a high impact on the patient outcome.Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction is highly specific but has suboptimal sensitivity.Chest computed tomography(CT)has a high sensitivity for detection of pulmonary disease manifestations and can play a key-role in diagnosing COVID-19.We reviewed 47 studies and delineated CT findings of COVID-19 and influenza pneumonia. The differences observed in the chest CT scan can be helpful in differentiation. For instance, ground glass opacities(GGOs),as the most frequent imaging finding in both diseases, can differ in the pattern of distribution.Peripheral and posterior distribution, multilobular distribution, pure or clear margin GGOs were more commonly reported in COVID-19,whereas central or peri-bronchovascular GGOs and pure consolidations were more seen in influenza A(H1N1).In review of other imaging findings, further differences were noticed.Subpleural curvilinear lines, sugar melted sign,intra-lesional vascular enlargement, reverse halo sign, and fibrotic bands were more reported in COVID-19 than H1N1,while air space nodule,tree-in-bud,bronchiectasia,pleural effusion, and cavitation were more seen in H1N1.This delineation, when combined with clinical manifestations and laboratory results may help to differentiate these two viral infections.Azadeh Eslambolchi Ana Maliglig Amit Gupta Ali Gholamrezanezhad 2020World Journal of Radiology2020,12,12:0
Assessment of water depth change patterns in 120° sharp bend using numerical model显示文摘In this study,FLUENT software was employed to simulate the flow pattern and water depth changes in a 120° sharp bend at four discharge rates. To verify the numerical model,a 90° sharp bend was first modeled with a three-dimensional numerical model, and the results were compared with available experimental results.Based on the numerical model validation,a 120° bend was simulated. The results show that the rate of increase of the water depth at the cross-section located 40 cm before the bend, compared with the cross-sections located 40 cm and 80 cm after the bend, decreases with the increase of the normal water depth in the 120° curved channel. Moreover, with increasing normal water depth, the dimensionless water depth change decreases at all cross-sections.At the interior cross-sections of the bend, the transverse water depth slope of the inner half-width is always greater than that of the outer half-width of the channel.Hence, the water depth slope is nonlinear at each crosssection in sharp bends. Two equations reflecting the relationships between the maximum and minimum dimensionless water depths and the normal water depth throughout the channel were obtained.Azadeh Gholami Hossein Bonakdari Ali Akbar Akhtari 2016Water Science and Engineering2016,9,4:0
Troponin I biomarker as a strong prognostic factor for predicting COVID-19 mortality:A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND The increase in circulating Troponin-I in the blood of patients suffering coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)can be a strong prognostic factor for predicting disease poorer outcome.AIM To review the literatures to approve this claim systematically.METHODS Two blinded reviewers independently screened the titles and abstracts of the manuscripts using the keywords and deeply searching the databanks including PubMed,Scopus,Google Scholar, and Web of knowledge, followed by profoundly appraisement of the full texts to assess the inclusion appropriateness.RESULTS The manuscripts entered into our final assessment were categorized as the two groups including 10 manuscripts describing and comparing death and diseaserelated complications between the subgroups of patients with raised serum troponin level and those with normal ranges of this biomarker and 7 manuscripts comparing the mean level of serum troponin concentration across the survived and non-survived groups.Comparing outcome of COVID-19 disease in the groups with raised troponin level and normal level of this markers showed increased the likelihood of death[hazard ratio(HR)=4.967,P<0.001],acute respiratory distress syndrome(HR=5.914,P<0.001),acute kidney injury(HR=3.849,P<0.001),and intensive care unit(ICU)admission(HR=3.780,P<0.001)following raise of troponin. The pooled analysis showed significantly higher concentration of this marker in the survived group compared to non-survived group(weighted mean differences of 22.278,95%CI:15.647 to 28.927,P<0.001).CONCLUSION Raising troponin-I on admission can be linked to the increase risk for in-hospital death, acute respiratory distress syndrome, kidney injury, and ICU admission by 4.9,5.9,3.8,and 3.7 times as compared to those with initial normal troponin-I concentration. Thus, raising baseline value of troponin-I can be used as a prognostic factor for poor outcome of COVID-19.Haleh Ashraf Abbas Soleimani Ali Kazemi saeid Azadeh Sadat Naseri Fazeleh Majidi Niloufar Peirovi Shahrokh Karbalai Saleh 2021World Journal of Meta-Analysis2021,9,4:0
