1Prevalence of H pylori associated 'high risk gastritis' for development of gastric cancer in patients with normal endoscopic findings显示文摘AIM: To investigate the prevalence of H pylori associated corpus-predominant gastritis (CPG) or pangastritis, severe atrophy, and intestinal metaplasia (IM) in patients without any signifi cant abnormal fi ndings during upper- GI endoscopy. METHODS: Gastric biopsies from 3548 patients were obtained during upper GI-endoscopy in a 4-year period. Two biopsies from antrum and corpus were histologically assessed according to the updated Sydney-System. Eight hundred and forty-fi ve patients (mean age 54.8 ± 2.8 years) with H pylori infection and no peptic ulcer or abnormal gross fi ndings in the stomach were identifi ed and analyzed according to gastritis phenotypes using different scoring systems. RESULTS: The prevalence of severe H pylori associated changes like pangastritis, CPG, IM, and severe atrophy increased with age, reaching a level of 20% in patients of the age group over 45 years. No differences in frequencies between genders were observed. The prevalence of IM had the highest increase, being 4-fold higher at the age of 65 years versus in individuals less than 45 years. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of gastritis featuring at risk for cancer development increases with age. These findings reinforce the necessity for the histological assessment, even in subjects with normal endoscopic appearance. 9Increasing the value of weather-related warnings显示文摘Despite advances in forecasting and emergency preparedness, weather related disasters continue to cost many lives, to displace populations and to cause wide-spread damage. Therefore, High Impact Weather Project (HIWeather), a 10-year research project (https://public.wmo.int/en/resources/buHetin/hiweather-10-yearresearch- project), was established in 2016 by WM0 (World Meteorology Organization) WWRP (World Weather Research Program: https://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/arep/wwrp/new/wwrp_new_en. html). HIWeather aimed at achieving dramatic improvements in the effectiveness of weather-related hazard warnings, following recent advancement in numerical weather prediction at km-scale and in disaster risk reduction. The implementation plan was developed under the concept of warning chain, which comprises all components and the connections between to a successful weather-hazards warning: observations, weather forecast, hazard forecast, impact forecast, the generation of warnings and decision making (Fig. 1). A successful warning relies on information produced by the meteorological and related physical sciences, thus its effectiveness of delivery depends on applications of social, behavioral and economic sciences. 11Human primary muscle stem cells regenerate injured urethral sphincter in athymic rats显示文摘Background:The aim of the study was to demonstrate the efficacy of human muscle stem cells(MuSCs)isolated using innovative technology in restoring internal urinary sphincter function in a preclinical animal model.Methods:Colonies of pure human MuSCs were obtained from muscle biopsy speci-mens.Athymic rats were subjected to internal urethral sphincter damage by electro-cauterization.Five days after injury,2×105 muscle stem cells or medium as control were injected into the area of sphincter damage(n=5 in each group).Peak bladder pressure and rise in pressure were chosen as outcome measures.To repeatedly obtain the necessary pressure values,telemetry sensors had been implanted into the rat bladders 10 days prior to injury.Results:There was a highly significant improvement in the ability to build up peak pressure as well as a pressure rise in animals that had received muscle stem cells as compared to control(p=0.007)3 weeks after the cells had been injected.Only mini-mal histologic evidence of scarring was observed in treated rats.Conclusion:Primary human muscle stem cells obtained using innovative technology functionally restore internal urethral sphincter function after injury.Translation into use in clinical settings is foreseeable.Biniam M.Bekele Verena Schöwel-Wolf Janine Kieshauer Andreas Marg Andreas Busjahn Sarah Davis Gayle Nugent Anne-Karoline Ebert Simone Spuler 2022Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2022,5,5:0
