1Shunting branch of portal vein and stent position predict survival after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effect of the shunting branch of the portal vein(PV)(left or right)and the initial stent position(optimal or suboptimal)of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS).METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed 307 consecu5tive cirrhotic patients who underwent TIPS placement for variceal bleeding from March 2001 to July 2010 at our center.The left PV was used in 221 patients and the right PV in the remaining 86 patients.And,224 and83 patients have optimal stent position and sub-optimal stent positions,respectively.The patients were followed until October 2011 or their death.Hepatic encephalopathy,shunt dysfunction,and survival were evaluated as outcomes.The difference between the groups was compared by Kaplan-Meier analysis.A Cox regression model was employed to evaluate the predictors.RESULTS:Among the patients who underwent TIPS to the left PV,the risk of hepatic encephalopathy(P=0.002)and mortality were lower(P<0.001)compared to those to the right PV.Patients who underwent TIPS with optimal initial stent position had a higher primary patency(P<0.001)and better survival(P=0.006)than those with suboptimal initial stent position.The shunting branch of the portal vein and the initial stent position were independent predictors of hepatic encephalopathy and shunt dysfunction after TIPS,respectively.And,both were independent predictors of survival.CONCLUSION:TIPS placed to the left portal vein with optimal stent position may reduce the risk of hepatic encephalopathy and improve the primary patency rates,thereby prolonging survival.Ming Bai Chuang-Ye He Xing-Shun Qi Zhan-Xin Yin Jian-Hong Wang Wen-Gang Guo Jing Niu Jie-Lai Xia Zhuo-Li Zhang Andrew C Larson Kai-Chun Wu Dai-Ming Fan Guo-Hong Han 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,3:26

4Mechanically induced Ca^(2+) oscillations in osteocytes release extracellular vesicles and enhance bone formation显示文摘The vast osteocytic network is believed to orchestrate bone metabolic activity in response to mechanical stimuli through production of sclerostin, RANKL, and osteoprotegerin(OPG). However, the mechanisms of osteocyte mechanotransduction remain poorly understood. We've previously shown that osteocyte mechanosensitivity is encoded through unique intracellular calcium (Ca^(2+) ) dynamics. Here, by simultaneously monitoring Ca^(2+) and actin dynamics in single cells exposed to fluid shear flow, we detected actin network contractions immediately upon onset of flow-induced Ca^(2+) transients, which were facilitated by smooth muscle myosin and further confirmed in native osteocytes ex vivo. Actomyosin contractions have been linked to the secretion of extracellular vesicles(EVs), and our studies demonstrate that mechanical stimulation upregulates EV production in osteocytes through immunostaining for the secretory vesicle marker Lysosomal-associated membrane protein 1(LAMP1) and quantifying EV release in conditioned medium, both of which are blunted when Ca^(2+) signaling was inhibited by neomycin. Axial tibia compression was used to induce anabolic bone formation responses in mice, revealing upregulated LAMP1 and expected downregulation of sclerostin in vivo. This load-related increase in LAMP1 expression was inhibited in neomycin-injected mice compared to vehicle.Micro-computed tomography revealed significant load-related increases in both trabecular bone volume fraction and cortical thickness after two weeks of loading, which were blunted by neomycin treatment. In summary, we found mechanical stimulation of osteocytes activates Ca^(2+) -dependent contractions and enhances the production and release of EVs containing bone regulatory proteins. 5effective treatment of post-intubation subglottic stenosis in children with holmium laser therapy and cryotherapy via flexible bronchoscopy显示文摘Importance:Post-intubation subglottic stenosis(SGS)in children can be life threatening.Definitive treatment varies and lacks a universally accepted approach.Objective:We performed a prospective study to assess the safety and feasibility of holmium laser combined with cryotherapy delivered via flexible bronchoscopy for the treatment of post-intubation SGS in children.Methods:This study involved all patients with post-intubation SGS seen at the Interventional Pulmonology Department of Beijing Children's Hospital between July 2014 and December 2016.Holmium laser treatment and cryotherapy was then performed under flexible bronchoscopy,whose parents refused to accept the alternative standard treatment of tracheotomy and balloon dilation under direct laryngoscopy.results:Sixteen patients with post-intubation SGS were included in this study.Ages ranged from 2 months to 12.25 years old.According to the Cotton-Myer grading system,three cases were Grade II,12 cases were Grade III,and one case was Grade IV.According to the McCaffrey system,eight cases were Stage 1,two cases were Stage 2,and six cases were Stage 3.The average number of procedures was 4.88.Fifteen of the 16 patients achieved clinical cure.One patient achieved clinical improvement.The average treatment course duration was 55.31 days.No severe complications were seen.Post-treatment clinical symptoms,endoscopic findings and quality of life showed marked improvement.Interpretation:Our study supports the conclusion that holmium laser treatment combined with cryotherapy via flexible bronchoscopy appears to be a safe and feasible treatment for post-intubation SGS in children.Anxia Jiao Fang Liu Andrew D.Lerner Xiaochun Rao Yan Guo Chenfang Meng Yuena Pan Gan Li Zheng Li Fang Wang Jing Zhao Yuyan Ma Xicheng Liu Xin Ni Kunling Shen 2019Pediatric Investigation2019,3,1:10

8Reduction roasting–magnetic separation of vanadium tailings in presence of sodium sulfate and its mechanisms显示文摘Reduction roasting with sodium sulfate followed by magnetic separation was investigated to utilize vanadium tailings with total iron grade of 54.90 wt% and TiO_2 content of 17.40 wt%. The results show that after reduction roasting–magnetic separation with sodium sulfate dosage of 2 wt% at roasting temperature of 1150 °C for roasting time of 120 min, metallic iron concentrate with total iron grade of 90.20 wt%, iron recovery rate of 97.56 % and TiO_2 content of 4.85 wt% is obtained and high-titanium slag with TiO_2 content of 57.31 wt% and TiO_2 recovery rate of 80.27 % is also obtained. The results show that sodium sulfate has a catalytic effect on the reduction of tailings in the novel process by thermodynamics, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) and reacts with silica and alumina in the tailings to form sodium silicate and sodium aluminosilicate. 9Mobility in China,2020:a tale of four phases显示文摘2020 was an unprecedented year;with rapid and drastic changes in human mobility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.To understand the variation in commuting patterns among the Chinese population across stable and unstable periods,we used nationwide mobility data from 318 million mobile phone users in China to examine the extreme fluctuations of population movements in 2020,ranging from the Lunar New Year travel season(chunyun),to the exceptional calm of COVID-19 lockdown,and then to the recovery period.We observed that cross-city movements;which increased substantially in chunyun and then dropped sharply during the lockdown,are primarily dependent on travel distance and the socio-economic development of cities.Following the Lunar New Year holiday,national mobility remained low until mid-February,and COVID-19 interventions delayed more than 72.89 million people returning to large cities.Mobility network analysis revealed clusters of highly connected cities,conforming to the social-economic division of urban agglomerations in China.While the mass migration back to large cities was delayed,smaller cities connected more densely to form new clusters.During the recovery period after travel restrictions were lifted,the netflows of over 55%city pairs reversed in direction compared to before the lockdown.These findings offer the most comprehensive picture of Chinese mobility at fine resolution across various scenarios in China and are of critical importance for decision making regarding future public-health-emergency response,transportation planning and regional economic development,among others.Suoyi Tan Shengjie Lai Fan Fang Ziqiang Cao Bin Sai Bing Song Bitao Dai Shuhui Guo Chuchu Liu Mengsi Cai Tong Wang Mengning Wang Jiaxu Li Saran Chen Shuo Qin Jessica R.Floyd Zhidong Cao Jing Tan Xin Sun Tao Zhou Wei Zhang Andrew J.Tatem Petter Holme Xiaohong Chen Xin Lu 2021National Science Review2021,8,11:3
10Non-junctional Cx32 mediates anti-apoptotic and pro-tumor effects via epidermal growth factor receptor in human cervical cancer cells显示文摘OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of connexin proteins(Cx),which form gap junctions(GJ),in progression and chemotherapeutic sensitivity of cervical cancer(CaC x).METHODS We analyze the expression of Cx26,Cx30,Cx32 and Cx43 in human specimens consisting of:Normal cervix(n=78),CaCx FIGO stageⅠ(n=148),CaCx FIGO stageⅡ(n=165).In CaCx cell lines,Hela-Cx32(induced expression by doxycycline),C-33A(endogenously express Cx32)and si Ha(transiently transfected plasmid with Cx32),we detected the role of Cx32 against tostreptonigrin/cisplatin-induced apopotosisin presence or absence of functional GJ through using GJ inhibitors or low density cultural.Furtherly,we observed the relativity of Cx32 and EGFR expression in human specimens.Also,we detected the role of EGFR signaling pathway in the process of Cx32 anti-apoptosis through suppressed EGFR expression by inhibitors or si RNA sequences in cell lines.RESULTS We firstly demonstrated the expression of Cx32 was highly upregulated and accumulated in cytoplasm in the CaCx specimens,and the degree of upregulation correlated with advanced FIGO stages.Thus,in three human cervical cell lines,Cx32 was shown to suppress apoptosis when GJ formation is inhibited.No matter in cases of CaCx or cell lines,Cx32 expression was highly correlated with expression of EGFR and the EGFR pathway is an essential component of the Cx32-induced anti-apoptotic effect.CONCLUSION Cx32,traditionally tumor suppressive protein,was shown to be tumor protective against chemotherapy through EGFR pathway in a GJ-independent way.Yi-fan ZHAO Yong-chang LAI Hui GE Yun-quan GUO Xue FENG Jia SONG Qin WANG Li-xia FAN Andrew L HARRIS Xi-yan WANG Liang TAO 2017中国药理学与毒理学杂志2017,31,10:3

12Development of an educational cartoon to prevent worm infections in Chinese schoolchildren显示文摘Background:With more than two billion people infected worldwide,soil-transmitted helminths(STH)are the most widespread infections.To date,STH control efforts rely predominantly on recurrent mass drug administration(MDA),which does not prevent reinfection.Additional public health measures including novel health educational tools are required for more sustained integrated control of STH.We describe the development of an educational cartoon video(The Magic Glasses)targeting STH infections in Chinese schoolchildren and its pilot testing in China.We applied an extensive community-based mixed methods approach involving input from the target group of 9–10 year old schoolchildren and key informants,such as teachers,doctors and parents,in order to identify potential STH infection risks in the study area and to formulate key messages for the cartoon.The development of the educational cartoon included three major steps:formative research,production,and pilot testing and revision.Results:We found that most adults and approximately 50%of the schoolchildren were aware of roundworm(Ascaris)infection,but knowledge of transmission,prevention and treatment of STH was poor.Observations in the study area showed that unhygienic food practices,such as eating raw and unwashed fruit or playing in vegetable gardens previously fertilised with human faeces,posed major STH infection risks.Conclusions:It was crucial to assess the intellectual,emotional,social and cultural background of the target population prior to video production in order to integrate the key messages of the cartoon into everyday situations.Overall,our strategy for the development of the cartoon and its incorporation into a health education package proved successful,and we provide a summary of recommendations for the development of future educational videos based on our experiences in China.Franziska A Bieri Li-Ping Yuan Yue-Sheng Li Yong-Kang He Andrew Bedford Robert S Li Feng-Ying Guo Sheng-Ming Li Gail M Williams Donald P McManus Giovanna Raso Darren J Gray 2013Infectious Diseases of Poverty2013,2,1:2
13Defect detection in atomic-resolution images via unsupervised learning with translational invariance显示文摘Crystallographic defects can now be routinely imaged at atomic resolution with aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)at high speed,with the potential for vast volumes of data to be acquired in relatively short times or through autonomous experiments that can continue over very long periods.Automatic detection and classification of defects in the STEM images are needed in order to handle the data in an efficient way.However,like many other tasks related to object detection and identification in artificial intelligence,it is challenging to detect and identify defects from STEM images.Furthermore,it is difficult to deal with crystal structures that have many atoms and low symmetries.Previous methods used for defect detection and classification were based on supervised learning,which requires human-labeled data.In this work,we develop an approach for defect detection with unsupervised machine learning based on a one-class support vector machine(OCSVM).We introduce two schemes of image segmentation and data preprocessing,both of which involve taking the Patterson function of each segment as inputs.We demonstrate that this method can be applied to various defects,such as point and line defects in 2D materials and twin boundaries in 3D nanocrystals.Yueming Guo Sergei V.Kalinin Hui Cai Kai Xiao Sergiy Krylyuk Albert V.Davydov Qianying Guo Andrew R.Lupini 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:2

17Automatic quantification of superficial foveal avascular zone in optical coherence tomography angiography implemented with deep learning显示文摘An accurate segmentation and quantification of the superficial foveal avascular zone(sFAZ)is important to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of many retinal diseases,such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion.We proposed a method based on deep learning for the automatic segmentation and quantification of the sFAZ in optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)images with robustness to brightness and contrast(B/C)variations.A dataset of 405 OCTA images from 45 participants was acquired with Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT 5000 and the ground truth(GT)was manually segmented subsequently.A deep learning network with an encoder–decoder architecture was created to classify each pixel into an sFAZ or non-sFAZ class.Subsequently,we applied largestconnected-region extraction and hole-filling to fine-tune the automatic segmentation results.A maximum mean dice similarity coefficient(DSC)of 0.976±0.011 was obtained when the automatic segmentation results were compared against the GT.The correlation coefficient between the area calculated from the automatic segmentation results and that calculated from the GT was 0.997.In all nine parameter groups with various brightness/contrast,all the DSCs of the proposed method were higher than 0.96.The proposed method achieved better performance in the sFAZ segmentation and quantification compared to two previously reported methods.In conclusion,we proposed and successfully verified an automatic sFAZ segmentation and quantification method based on deep learning with robustness to B/C variations.For clinical applications,this is an important progress in creating an automated segmentation and quantification applicable to clinical analysis.Menglin Guo Mei Zhao Allen M.Y.Cheong Houjiao Dai Andrew K.C.Lam Yongjin Zhou 2019Visual Computing for Industry,Biomedicine,and Art2019,2,1:2
