| 1 | Responses of microbial activities and soil physical-chemical properties to the successional process of biological soil crusts in the Gurbantunggut Desert,Xinjiang显示文摘Biological soil crusts(BSCs) are capable of modifying nutrient availability to favor the establishment of biogeochemical cycles. Microbial activities serve as critical roles for both carbon and nutrient transformation in BSCs. However, little is known about microbial activities and physical-chemical properties of BSCs in the Gurbantunggut Desert, Xinjiang, China. In the present research, a sampling line with 1-m wide and 20-m long was set up in each of five typical interdune areas selected randomly in the Gurbantunggut Desert. Within each sampling line, samples of bare sand sheet, algal crusts, lichen crusts and moss crusts were randomly collected at the depth of 0–2 cm. Variations of microalgal biomass, microbial biomass, enzyme activities and soil physical-chemical properties in different succession of BSCs were analyzed. The relationships between microalgal biomass, microbial biomass, enzymatic activities and soil physical-chemical properties were explored by stepwise regression. Our results indicate that microalgal biomass, microbial biomass and most of enzyme activities increased as the BSCs developed and their highest values occurred in lichen or moss crusts. Except for total K, the contents of most soil nutrients(organic C, total N, total P, available N, available P and available K) were the lowest in the bare sand sheet and significantly increased with the BSCs development, reaching their highest values in moss crusts. However, pH values significantly decreased as the BSCs developed. Significant and positive correlations were observed between chlorophyll a and microbial biomass C. Total P and N were positively associated with chlorophyll a and microbial biomass C, whereas there was a significant and negative correlation between microbial biomass and available P. The growth of cyanobacteria and microorganism contributed C and N in the soil, which offered substrates for enzyme activities thus increasing enzyme activities. Probably, improvement in enzyme activities increased soil fertility and promoted the growth of cyanobacteria, eukaryotic algae and heterotrophic microorganism, with the accelerating succession of BSCs. | 2 | Association of KIR Genotypes and Haplotypes with Susceptibility to Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Chinese Han Population显示文摘Killer immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes can regulate the activation of NK and T cells upon interaction with HLA class I molecules. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been regarded as a multi-factorial disorder disease. Previous studies revealed that KIRs were involved in HCV and HIV infection or clearance. The aim of this study was to explore the possibility of the inheritance of KIR genotypes and haplotypes as a candidate for susceptibility to persistent HBV infection or HBV clearance. The sequence specific primer polymerase chain reaction (SSP-PCR) was employed to identify the KIR genes and pseudogenes in 150 chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients, 251 spontaneously recovered (SR) controls, and 412 healthy controls. The frequencies of genotype G, M, FZ1 increased in CHB patients compared with healthy control subjects. The frequency of genotype AH was higher in SR controls than that in both CHB patients and healthy controls. The carriage frequencies of genotype G and AH were higher; while, the frequencies of AF and AJ were lower in SR controls than those in healthy control subjects. The frequency of A haplotype was lower, whereas, the frequency of B haplotype was higher in CHB patients and SR controls than those in healthy controls. In healthy controls, haplotype 4 was found lower compared with that in CHB patients and SR controls and the frequency of haplotype 5 was higher in SR controls than that in other two groups. Based on these findings, it seems that the genotypes M and FZ1 are HBV susceptive genotypes; AH, on the other hand, may be protective genotypes that facilitate the clearance of HBV. | 3 | Species composition,distribution patterns and ecological functions of biological soil crusts in the Gurbantunggut Desert显示文摘As one of the most important biological factors that maintain the stability of the largest fixed and semi-fixed desert in China,the Gurbantunggut Desert,the biological soil crusts (BSCs) develop well and play critical ecological roles in the desert ecosystem. In this paper,we briefly summarize our research findings since 2002 including species composition,distribution pattern and ecological functions of BSCs in the desert. Our results indicate abundant species diversity of BSCs in the Gurbantunggut Desert in comparison to other deserts in China. At the scales of sand dune or whole desert,the distribution patterns of BSCs are location-specific. | 4 | Fluid Property Discrimination in Dolostone Reservoirs Using Well Logs显示文摘The Ordovician Majiagou Formation is one of the main gas-producing strata in the Ordos Basin,China.The identification of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals via conventional well logs is a challenging task.This study describes the litholog of Ma 5(Member 5 of Majiagou Formation)dolostones,and then analyzes the responses of various conventional well logs to the presences of natural gas.The lithology of the gas bearing layers is dominantly of the dolomicrite to fine to medium crystalline dolomite.Natural gas can be produced from the low resistivity layers,and the dry layers are characterized by high resistivities.Neutron-density crossovers are not sensitive to the presences of natural gas.In addition,there are no significant increases in sonic transit times in natural gas bearing layers.NMR(nuclear magnetic resonance)logs,DSI(Dipole Sonic Imager)logs and borehole image logs(XRMI)are introduced to discriminate the fluid property in Majiagou dolostone reservoirs.The gas bearing intervals have broad NMR T2(transverse relaxation time)spectrum with tail distributions as well as large T2gm(T2 logarithmic mean values)values,and the T2 spectrum commonly display polymodal behaviors.In contrast,the dry layers and water layers have low T2gm values and very narrow T2 spectrum without tails.The gas bearing layers are characterized by low Vp/Vs ratios,low Poisson’s ratios and low P-wave impedances,therefore the fluid property can be discriminated using DSI logs,and the interpretation results show good matches with the gas test data.The apparent formation water resistivity(AFWR)spectrum can be derived from XRMI image logs by using the Archie’s formula in the flushed zone.The gas bearing layers have broad apparent formation water resistivity spectrum and tail distributions compared with the dry and water layers,and also the interpretation results from the image logs exhibit good agreement with the gas test data.The fluid property in Majiagou dolostone reservoirs can be discriminated through NMR logs,DSI logs and borehole image logs.This study helps establish a predictable model for fluid property in dolostones,and have implications in dolostone reservoirs with similar geological backgrounds worldwide. | WANG Guiwen LAI Jin LIU Bingchang FAN Zhuoying LIU Shichen SHI Yujiang ZHANG Haitao CHEN Jing | 2020 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,3: | 4 |
| 5 | Soil total organic carbon/total nitrogen ratio as a key driver deterministically shapes diazotrophic community assemblages during the succession of biological soil crusts显示文摘The diazotrophic community in biological soil crusts(biocrusts)is the key supplier of nitrogen in dryland.To date,there is still limited information on how biocrust development influences the succession of diazotrophic community,and what are the most important factors mediating diazotrophic communities during biocrust succession.Using the high throughput nifH amplicon sequencing,the diazotrophs in soils at different developmental stages of biocrust were comparatively studied.The results evidenced the decreases of TOC/TN ratio and pH value with biocrust development.Nostoc and Scytonema were the most dominant diazotrophic genera at all biocrust stages,while Azospirillum and Bradyrhizobium were abundant only in bare soil.Diazotrophic co-occurrence networks tended to be less complex and less connected with biocrust succession.The soil TOC/TN ratio was the most dominant factor mediating diazotrophic diversity,community composition and assembly processes,while diazotrophic-diversity and NO3–-N/NH4+-N ratio were positively correlated with the nitrogenase activity during biocrust succession.This study provided novel understandings of nitrogen fixation and succession patterns of diazotrophic community,by showing the effects of biocrust succession on diazotrophic diversity,community composition,community assembly and co-occurrence networks,and recognizing TOC/TN ratio as the most dominant factor mediating diazotrophs during biocrust succession. | Lin Xu Bingchang Zhang Entao Wang Bingjian Zhu Minjie Yao Chaonan Li Xiangzhen Li | 2021 | Soil Ecology Letters2021,3,4: | 3 |

The small delay approximation based on the probability density approach is used and the approximate stationary probability density function is obtained. The phenomenon of delay induced transitions is found. When a weak periodic signal is added, the phenomenon of stochastic resonance is investigated. Expression of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is obtained by using the two-state theory. | 11 | Identification of serum metabolites enhancing inflammatory responses in COVID-19显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is characterized by a strong production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF and IL-6,which underlie the severity of the disease.However,the molecular mechanisms responsible for such a strong immune response remains unclear.Here,utilizing targeted tandem mass spectrometry to analyze serum metabolome and lipidome in COVID-19 patients at different temporal stages,we identified that 611 metabolites(of 1,039)were significantly altered in COVID-19 patients.Among them,two metabolites,agmatine and putrescine,were prominently elevated in the serum of patients;and 2-quinolinecarboxylate was changed in a biphasic manner,elevated during early COVID-19 infection but levelled off.When tested in mouse embryonic fibroblasts(MEFs)and macrophages,these 3 metabolites were found to activate the NF-κB pathway that plays a pivotal role in governing cytokine production.Importantly,these metabolites were each able to cause strong increase of TNF and IL-6 levels when administered to wildtype mice,but not in the mice lacking NF-κB.Intriguingly,these metabolites have little effects on the activation of interferon regulatory factors(IRFs)for the production of type I interferons(IFNs)for antiviral defenses.These data suggest that circulating metabolites resulting from COVID-19 infection may act as effectors to elicit the peculiar systemic inflammatory responses,exhibiting severely strong proinflammatory cytokine production with limited induction of the interferons.Our study may provide a rationale for development of drugs to alleviate inflammation in COVID-19 patients. | Chen-Song Zhang Bingchang Zhang Mengqi Li Xiaoyan Wei Kai Gong Zhiyong Li Xiangyang Yao Jianfeng Wu Cixiong Zhang Mingxia Zhu Lei Zhang Xiufeng Sun Yi-Hong Zhan Zhengye Jiang Wenpeng Zhao Wei Zhong Xinguo Zhuang Dawang Zhou Hai-Long Piao Sheng-Cai Lin Zhanxiang Wang | 2022 | Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,10: | 1 |

| 13 | Chlorophytes of biological soil crusts in Gurbantunggut Desert,Xinjiang Autonomous Region,China显示文摘In this paper,chlorophytes collected from 253 biological soil crust samples in Gurbantunggut Desert in Xinjiang Autonomous Region,China were studied by field investigation and microscopical observation in lab.The flora composition,ecological distribution of chlorophytes in the desert and dynamic changes of species composition of chlorophytes in different developing stages of biological soil crusts are preliminarily analyzed.Results showed that there were 26 species belonging to 14 genera and 10 families,in which unicellular chlorophytes were dominant.There existed some differences in distribution of varied sand dune positions.The taxa of chlorophytes in leeward of sand dunes are most abundant,but the taxa in windward,interdune and the top of sand dunes reduced gradually.Chlorophytes were mainly distributed within the crust and the taxa of chlorophytes decrease obviously under the crust.In the devel-oping stages of the biological soil crust,species diversity of chlorophytes changed a little,but species composition pre-sented some differences.Chlorococcum humicola,Chlorella vulgaris,Chlamydomonas ovalis and Chlamydomonas sp.nearly existed in all developing stages of biological crusts.In several former stages of the biological soil crust there were spherical chlorophytes and filamentous ones.When moss crust formed,filamentous chlorophytes disappeared,such as Microspora and Ulothrix. | Jiancheng ZHAO Bingchang ZHANG Yuanming ZHANG | 2008 | Frontiers in Biology2008,3,1: | 1 |

| 19 | Ultra-wideband fiber-THz-fiber seamless integration communication system toward 6G:architecture,key techniques,and testbed implementation显示文摘Terahertz(THz)communication is widely regarded as the key component of future 6G mobile communication systems.Through comparative analysis of some of the main existing technical routes of THz up-conversion and down-conversion in THz wireless communication systems,a novel ultra-wideband(UWB)fiber-THz-fiber seamlessly converged real-time architecture,which utilizes the commercially mature digital coherent optical module to realize ultrahigh-capacity THz real-time wireless communication,is proposed in this study.(1)The proposed architecture employs the dual-polarization photonic up-conversion technique for THz generation and hybrid optoelectronic down-conversion technique for THz reception to facilitate the seamless integration between optical fiber and THz communications.(2)Because of the limited bandwidth of optoelectronic devices,multidimensional modulation techniques are adopted for UWB THz signals to improve spectral efficiency and transmission capacity.(3)An intelligent nonlinear joint compensation technique based on the deep neural network,which can effectively improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the time-varying hybrid fiber-THz-fiber channel,is proposed.Based on the investigations of the aforementioned key techniques,we,for the first time,realize the photonics-assisted record-high 100/200 Gb E real-time THz wireless transmission at 360–430 GHz band,the capacity of which is 10–20 times higher than that of 5G.The proposed fiber-THz-fiber architecture can realize the smooth conversion between high-speed THz and lightwave signals.Moreover,the architecture can significantly reduce the research difficulty and development cost,thereby considerably accelerating the commercialization of 6G THz technology by thoroughly reusing commercial digital coherent optical module(DCO)modules,which are compatible with the physical layer transmission protocols,such as IEEE 802.3 and ITU-T G.798.Finally,this study also introduces some potential directions of research and development for higher-capacity,longer-distance,and more-integrated fiber-THz-fiber seamless communication. | Min ZHU Jiao ZHANG Bingchang HUA Mingzheng LEI Yuancheng CAI Liang TIAN Dongming WANG Wei XU Chuan ZHANG Yongming HUANG Jianjun YU Xiaohu YOU | 2023 | Science China(Information Sciences)2023,66,1: | 1 |
| 20 | Snowpack shifts cyanobacterial community in biological soil crusts显示文摘Winter snowpack is an important source of moisture that influences the development ofbiological soil crusts(BSCs)in desert ecosystems.Cyanobacteria are important photosynthetic organismsin BSCs.However,the responses of the cyanobacterial community in BSCs to snowpack,snow depth andmelting snow are still unknown.In this study,we investigated the cyanobacterial community compositionand diversity in BSCs under different snow treatments(doubled snow,ambient snow and removed snow)and three snow stages(stage 1,snowpack;stage 2,melting snow;and stage 3,melted snow)in theGurbantunggut Desert in China.In stages 1 and 2,Cyanobacteria were the dominant phylum in the bacterialcommunity in the removed snow treatment,whereas Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were abundant inthe bacterial communities in the ambient snow and doubled snow treatments.The relative abundances ofProteobacteria and Bacteroidetes increased with increasing snow depth.The relative abundances ofCyanobacteria and other bacterial taxa were affected mainly by soil temperature and irradiance.In stages 2and 3,the relative abundance of Cyanobacteria increased quickly due to the suitable soil moisture andirradiance conditions.Oscillatoriales,Chroococcales,Nostocales,Synechococcales and unclassifiedCyanobacteria were detected in all the snow treatments,and the most dominant taxa were Oscillatorialesand Chroococcales.Various cyanobacterial taxa showed different responses to snowpack.Soil moisture andirradiance were the two critical factors shaping the cyanobacterial community structure.The snowpackdepth and duration altered the soil surface irradiance,soil moisture and other soil properties,whichconsequently were selected for different cyanobacterial communities.Thus,local microenvironmentalfiltering(niche selection)caused by snow conditions may be a dominant process driving shifts in thecyanobacterial community in BSCs. | ZHANG Bingchang ZHANG Yongqing ZHOU Xiaobing LI Xiangzhen ZHANG Yuanming | 2021 | Journal of Arid Land2021,13,3: | 0 |
