| 1 | A mammalian fossil from the Dingqing Formation in the Lunpola Basin,northern Tibet,and its relevance to age and paleo-altimetry显示文摘The distal extremity of a rhinocerotid humerus from the upper part of the Dingqing Formation at the Lunbori locality in Baingoin County,northern Tibet,is the first mammalian fossil found in Cenozoic deposits of the Lunpola Basin.The medial condyle of the distal trochlea of the humerus specimen from Lunbori gradually contracts from medially to laterally.The margin of the medial surface of the medial condyle is not prominent,the well-developed medial epicondyle strongly extends posteriorly,and is divided from the articular facet of the medial condyle by a groove;all of which are characteristic for the Rhinocerotidae.The medial condyle is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.The medial collateral ligament fossa is relatively shallow,and the medial collateral ligament tubercle is very weak.The medial part of the upper margin of the medial condyle smoothly connects to the bony surface above,but there is no clear boundary between them.All of these characteristics are identical with those of Plesiaceratherium.These comparisons imply that the Lunbori specimen is closest to Plesiaceratherium gracile in the Shanwang Fauna from Linqu,Shandong Province,in size and morphology.Thus,its age is suggested to be the late Early Miocene(Shanwangian Age),about 18-16 Ma.Discovery of the rhinocerotid fossil suggests that the upper part of the Dingqing Formation deposited in the Neogene.While adjusting to paleo-temperatures of the Early Miocene,a paleo-ecosystem reconstruction indicates that the paleo-elevation was close to 3000 m in the Lunpola Basin during this time. | DENG Tao WANG ShiQi XIE GuangPu LI Qiang HOU SuKuan SUN BoYang | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,2: | 30 |
| 2 | Prognostic value of programmed death.1, programmed death-ligand 1, programmed death-ligand 2 expression, and CD8(+) T cell density in primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes from patients with stage T1.4N+M0 gastric adenocarcinoma显示文摘Background: Anti-programmed death-1/programmed death-ligand 1(PD-1/PD-L1) immunotherapy has been proved to be effective on gastric cancer in ongoing clinical trials. However, the value of PD-L1 in predicting responses of patients with gastric cancer to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy is controversial. Some studies suggested that intra-and inter-tumoral heterogeneity of PD-L1 expression might explain the controversy.This study aimed to analyze the expression of PD-L1, PD-L2, and PD-1 as well as CD8(+) T-cell density in primary tumors and lymph nodes from patients with stage T1-4 N+M0 gastric adenocarcinoma to explore the heterogeneity of PD-1 signaling pathway molecules.Methods: In primary tumors and metastatic as well as non-metastatic lymph nodes from patients with stage T1-4 N+M0 gastric adenocarcinoma, we detected PD-L1 and PD-L2 expression with immunohistochemistry. CD8(+)T-cell density in primary tumors and PD-1 expression on CD8(+)T cells were detected with immunofluorescence. Univariate analysis was used to determine the prognostic values of them. Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to identify independent risk factors that affect patients' overall survival and disease-free survival.Results: Among 119 eligible patients who had undergone surgical resection, the positive rate of PD-L1 was higher in metastatic lymph nodes than in primary tumors(45.4% vs. 38.7%, P = 0.005); the positive rate of PD-1 on CD8(+)T cells was significantly higher in primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes than in tumor-free lymph nodes(both P < 0.001). The intensity of PD-1 expression on CD8(+) T cells in primary tumors and in metastatic lymph nodes were stronger than that in tumor-free lymph nodes from the same patient. Beside, the positive rate of PD-L2 did not show any differences between primary tumors and metastatic lymph nodes. | 4 | Highly conductive polymer nanocomposites for emerging high voltage power cable shields:experiment,simulation and applications显示文摘High voltage power cables play a critical role in global electricity transmission and distribution.The currently used power cables cannot fulfil the green and sustainable requirement of modern society because of the thermoset nature of cable insulation and shields.This study is aimed at developing thermoplastic shields for high voltage power cable,which is one bottleneck restricting the development of environmental-friendly cables.Using carbon black(CB)as the main conductive component and a small amount of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)or graphene as the second filler,highly conductive polypropylene based composite materials were prepared for potential shield applications.It was found that,at a fixed conductive filler loading,the replacement of a small amount CB by CNTs can significantly enhance the electrical conductivity and suppress its temperature dependence.However,when CB was replaced by graphene,only limited enhancement of electrical conductivity could be achieved and the electrical conductivity is still highly dependent on temperature.Dissipative particle dynamics simulations demonstrated that the enhanced conduction property in the CNTs-containing composites could be understood by the shorter average distance between CB and CNTs.Finally,the coordination between the newly developed conductive composites and the environmental-friendly thermoplastic polypropylene insulation was evaluated via high voltage direct current measurements,and the results revealed that the CNTs-containing composites showed excellent suppression effect on the space charge injection and accumulation in the insulation.This research paved a new way for developing environmental-friendly high voltage power cable shields. | Xingyi Huang Boyang Sun Chunyang Yu Jiandong Wu Jun Zhang Pingkai Jiang | 2020 | High Voltage2020,5,4: | 2 |
| 5 | New fossils of the Early Pleistocene Equus huanghoensis(Equidae,Perissodactyla)from Nihewan in Hebei Province of China显示文摘This paper describes new fossils of Equus huanghoensis from an Early Pleistocene bed in Nihewan, Hebei Province, which confirms the classification of E. huanghoensis by Chinese researchers. The new fossils include a relatively complete male skull and mandible with all upper and lower dentition, a broken female skull with fragment of mandible and a broken Mc III of Equus sp. The fossils were collected from the Yangshuizhan site of Nihewan. The age of the formation is about 1.6 Ma. The new materials verify some classification characteristics based on teeth published in previous descriptions. These characteristics include large teeth size, short protocone, and tilted protoloph and metaloph. We have added to these characteristics of large skull size, a developed protuberantia supramagna, pentagonal nuchal side, weak Pli cabaline, simple enamel plications; a series of new characteristics strikingly different from the other Equus horses. | 6 | An Asian origin for Sinomastodon(Proboscidea, Gomphotheriidae) inferred from a new Upper Miocene specimen from Gansu of China显示文摘We report a fossil specimen referable to Sinomastodontinae gen. et sp. indet. from the Neogene strata at Yanghecun locality, Xihe County, Gansu Province, China. The specimen is characterized by a brevirostrine mandible, complete pretrite trefoils, and relatively simple posttrite half lophids, showing typical features of Sinomastodon. It differs from the other known species of Sinomastodon by the following features: relatively short and wide m3 due to fewer lophid numbers, less inflated pretrite accessory central conules, poorly developed secondary trefoils and cementum, and relatively strong cingulid. All of these features indicate a bias towards pleisiomorphies of Sinomastodon, implying that this specimen is more ancestral than any known species of Sinomastodon. The symphysis of the new specimen is relatively long, which differs from the typical brevirostrine Sinomastodon, and thus we consider it a gen. et sp. indet. in the Subfamily Sinomastodontinae. In addition, the horizon in which the present specimen was found probably represents the Upper Miocene because it is lower than Pliocene strata yielding Hipparion(Proboscidipparon) pater. Generally, Sinomastodon is considered to have migrated from North America at about the time of the Miocene/Pliocene boundary, and to have been derived from a certain clade of American gomphotheres. However, the discovery of the Yanghecun specimen verifies that Sinomastodon lived in East Asia during the Late Miocene, and probably derived from Old World gomphotheres(e.g., G. wimani). | 7 | Infrared LSS-Target Detection Via Adaptive TCAIE-LGM Smoothing and Pixel-Based Background Subtraction显示文摘Infrared small target detection is a significant and challenging topic for daily security. This paper proposes a novel model to detect LSS-target (low altitude, slow speed, and small target) under the complicated background. Firstly, the fundamental constituents of an infrared image including the complexity and entropy are calculated, which are invoked as adaptive control parameters of smoothness. Secondly, the adaptive L0 gradient minimization smoothing based on texture complexity and information entropy (TCAIE-LGM) is proposed in order to remove noises and suppress low-amplitude details in infrared image abstraction. Finally, difference of Gaussian (DoG) map is incorporated into the pixel-based adaptive segmentation (PBAS) background modeling algorithm, which can differ LSS-target from the sophisticated background. | 8 | Coping with extremes:lowered myocardial phosphofructokinase activities and glucose content but increased fatty acids content in highland Eurasian Tree Sparrows显示文摘Background:Efficient and selective utilization of metabolic substrates is one of the key strategies in high-altitude animals to cope with hypoxia and hypothermia.Previous findings have shown that the energy substrate utilization of highland animals varies with evolutionary history and phylogeny.The heart is a proxy for the cardiopulmonary system,and the metabolic substrate utilization in the myocardium is also under the strong selective pressure of chronically hypoxic and hypothermic environments.However,little information is available on the physiological adjustments in relation to metabolic substrate utilization in the myocardium for coping with high-altitude environments.Methods:We compared the metabolic enzyme activities,including hexokinase(HK),phosphofructokinase(PFK),pyruvate kinase(PK),citrate synthase(CS),carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1(CPT-1),lactic dehydrogenase(LDH),and creatine kinase(CK),and metabolic substrate contents including glucose(Glu),triglyceride(TG),and free fatty acid(FFA)in the myocardium of a typical human commensal species,Eurasian Tree Sparrows(Passer montanus)between the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(the QTP,3230 m)and low altitude population(Shijiazhuang,80 m),and between sexes.Results:Among the seven metabolic enzymes and three substrates investigated,we identified no significant differences in PK,CPT-1,HK,CS,LDH,and CK activities and TG content of the myocardium between high and low altitude populations.However,the QTP sparrows had significantly lower Glu content and PFK activities but higher FFA content relative to their lowland counterparts.In addition,male sparrows had higher myocardial HK and CS activities relative to females,independent of altitude.Conclusions:Our results showed that the QTP sparrows elevated fatty acid utilization rather than glucose preference in the myocardium relative to lowland counterpart,which contributes to uncovering both the physiological adjustments for adapting to the extreme conditions of the QTP,intraspecifically. | Boyang Ding Yuliang Zhao Yanfeng Sun Qian Zhang Mo Li Ghulam Nabi Yuefeng Wu Chuan Jiang Dongming Li | 2021 | Avian Research2021,12,4: | 1 |
| 9 | Cross-linking enhanced room-temperature phosphorescence of carbon dots显示文摘Currently,there is a strong drive to discover alternative materials that exhibit room-temperature phosphorescence(RTP)for displays,bioimaging,and data security.Ideally,these materials should be nontoxic,cheap,and possess controllable photoluminescent properties.Carbon dots(CDs)possess each of these characteristics,but to date,less attention has been paid to their RTP mechanism.Herein,we synthesized a series of CDs by self-crosslinking and carbonization of precursor.The resultant CDs were luminescent and exhibited a bright,micro-second afterglow lifetime.To increase the RTP,a second microwave processing step was used to coat the CDs with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA),polyacrylamide(PAM),or tetraethyl orthosilicate(TEOS),producing CDs@PVA,CDs@PAM,and CDs@TEOS composites.The core-shell structure acted to enhance crosslinking at the surface of the CDs to boost the RTP,creating abundant energy levels for intersystem crossover.In situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy verified electron transfer during luminescence.Finally,we present a design rule that can be used to tune the quantum yields and RTP lifetime of CDs,based on the effective stabilization of triplet excited states through the extent and strength of cross-linking.This simple strategy provides a flexible route for guiding the further development of CDs with tailored RTP properties for various applications. | Boyang Wang Zhen Sun Jingkun Yu Geoffrey I.N.Waterhouse Siyu Lu Bai Yang | 2022 | SmartMat2022,3,2: | 1 |

| 14 | A Method Based on Knowledge Distillation for Fish School Stress State Recognition in Intensive Aquaculture显示文摘Fish behavior analysis for recognizing stress is very important for fish welfare and production management in aquaculture.Recent advances have been made in fish behavior analysis based on deep learning.However,most existing methods with top performance rely on considerable memory and computational resources,which is impractical in the real-world scenario.In order to overcome the limitations of these methods,a new method based on knowledge distillation is proposed to identify the stress states of fish schools.The knowledge distillation architecture transfers additional inter-class information via a mixed relative loss function,and it forces a lightweight network(GhostNet)to mimic the soft probabilities output of a well-trained fish stress state recognition network(ResNeXt101).The fish school stress state recognition model’s accuracy is improved from 94.17%to 98.12%benefiting from the method.The proposed model has about 5.18 M parameters and requires 0.15 G FLOPs(floating-point operations)to process an image of size 224×224.Furthermore,fish behavior images are collected in a land-based factory,and a dataset is constructed and extended through flip,rotation,and color jitter augmentation techniques.The proposed method is also compared with other state-of-the-art methods.The experimental results show that the proposed model is more suitable for deployment on resource-constrained devices or real-time applications,and it is conducive for real-time monitoring of fish behavior. | Siyuan Mei Yingyi Chen Hanxiang Qin Huihui Yu Daoliang Li Boyang Sun Ling Yang Yeqi Liu | 2022 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,6: | 0 |

| 18 | Metformin ameliorates HMGB1-mediated oxidative stress through mTOR pathway in experimental periodontitis显示文摘Periodontitis is an oral chronic inflammatory disease.Inhibiting tissue destruction and promoting tissue regeneration are important means for the treatment of periodontitis.Metformin not only has hypoglycemic effect but also has anti-inflammatory effect.Metformin has been shown to inhibit oxidative stress and activate autophagy through AMPK/mTOR pathway.High mobility group box 1(HMGB1)has been implicated in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory diseases including periodontitis,it can participate in the induction of oxidative stress.HMGB1 is an autophagy regulator under oxidative stress,which can activate mTOR pathway.However,it is not clear whether metformin is related to HMGB1 and its mechanism in the process of periodontitis.Cell viability and expression of inflammatory cytokines were clarified by Cell Counting Kit-8,real-time PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Western blot and immunofluorescence were conducted to determine HMGB1 intracellular localization and expression of autophagy-associated proteins in vitro.Experimental periodontitis mice model was induced by administering a ligature.Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression and localization of HMGB1 in vivo.The results of CCK-8,real-time PCR,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,Western blot and immunofluorescence showed lipopolysaccharide(LPS)treatment inhibited cell viability,and increased HMGB1 expression at a dose-independent manner.Metformin can reduce the effect of LPS.It also improves autophagy pathway inhibited by LPS and down-regulates mTOR expression.In addition,metformin attenuated alveolar bone resorption induced by ligation.This study provides new evidence for that metformin is a potential drug for the treatment of periodontitis and HMGB1 may be a potential target for periodontal intervention. | Boyang Sun Siqi Ying Qian Ma Han Li Jie Li Jinlin Song | 2023 | Genes & Diseases2023,10,2: | 0 |
| 19 | Anti-cancer liposomal chemophototherapy using bilayer-localized photosensitizer and cabazitaxel显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a non-invasive tumor ablation modality that can be enhanced in combination with concurrent chemotherapy.Previously,we demonstrated that liposomes containing a bilayer-anchored photosensitizer(porphyrin-phospholipid;PoP)can be loaded with drugs in their aqueous core to improve drug delivery and tumor ablation upon target tissue irradiation with red-light.In the present work,we demonstrate that this concept can be extended to drugs loaded within the hydrophobic bilayer of liposomes.Cabazitaxel(CTX)is a potent second generation taxane anti-cancer drug that was loaded in the bilayer of liposomes also containing 0.1 molar%PoP,generating CTX-loaded PoP liposomes(CTX-PoP-Lip).CTX-PoP-Lip showed unilamellar vesicle morphology,and exhibited integrity in storage and serum,while maintaining drug stability under laser irradiation.In vitro cell killing evaluation showed that red-light laser irradiation induced cytotoxicity in cells incubated with CTX-PoP-Lip,compared to control treatments.In vivo pharmacokinetic analysis revealed that following intravenous administration to mice,CTX and PoP exhibited somewhat altered circulation profiles,suggesting that the CTX may have exchanged with serum factors in blood.Nevertheless,when a single treatment of CTX-PoP-Lip with laser irradiation was administered to mice bearing human MIA Paca-2 tumors,tumors were effectively ablated whereas the equivalent chemotherapy and PDT monotherapies were ineffective.These results demonstrate the versatility of liposome delivery systems for achieving tumor ablation with chemophototherapy. | Boyang Sun Sanjana Ghosh Xuedan He Wei-Chiao Huang Breandan Quinn Meiling Tian Dushyant Jahagirdar Moustafa T.Mabrouk Joaquin Ortega Yumiao Zhang Shuai Shao Jonathan F.Lovell | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,5: | 0 |
| 20 | Neogene integrative stratigraphy,biotas,and paleogeographical evolution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas显示文摘The remarkable uplift of the Tibetan Plateau in the Neogene had great impacts on the climate and environment of East Asia and even the world.Therefore,establishment of the Neogene stratigraphic framework of the Tibetan Plateau is of great significance to research in various fields of geosciences.Based on marine sediments,the international chronostratigraphic system of the Neogene is divided into six stages in the Miocene and two stages in the Pliocene.Since the beginning of the Cenozoic,the share of terrestrial strata on continents has increased rapidly.By the Neogene,it had far exceeded that of marine strata,and almost all deposits on the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas were terrestrial strata.In China,the Miocene includes five stages and the Pliocene includes two stages.Except for the Tunggurian of the Miocene,which has a lower boundary at 15 Ma,the other stages have the same paleomagnetic definitions and time intervals as the corresponding international marine stages.Mammalian fossils play a very important role in the division and correlation of Cenozoic terrestrial strata,and rodent,carnivore,proboscidean,perissodactyl and artiodactyl fossils are especially important in Neogene terrestrial biostratigraphy.There are many basins with well-exposed strata and abundant mammalian fossils in the Tibetan Plateau.The lower boundary stratotype sections of the Neogene Xiejian and Bahean stages are located respectively in the Xining and Linxia basins,and there are precise paleomagnetic dates in coordination with mammalian fossils.The lower boundary stratotypes of other stages can also be effectively determined in the Tibetan Plateau.Many first appearing mammalian genera in East Asia also appeared in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas,especially in the Linxia Basin on the northeast margin and in the Siwaliks on the southwest margin.Among them,Prodeinotherium first appeared at the bottom of the Miocene in the Siwaliks,and the earliest Hipparion of the Old World first appeared at the bottom of the Bahean Stage in the Linxia Basin.Carbon and oxygen isotope analysis of enamel and paleosols of Cenozoic sediments and mammal fossils in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas have been used to reconstruct the climate,environment and vegetation development characteristics,and revealed that these changes were not only related to global change,but also had regional features.Evidence of the Late Miocene C4plant expansion event based on carbon isotope changes comes from the southern margin of the Tibetan Plateau,but in sharp contrast,δ13C indicates that there was still no clear or significant C4plant signal on the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau until the end of the Neogene.Theδ18O analysis shows that there were several major climate change events in the Cenozoic,especially in the Late Miocene at about 7 Ma,when positive drift ofδ18O indicates that the northern and southern sides of the Tibetan Plateau were changing to drier environments.The strong uplift of the Tibetan Plateau in the Late Miocene strengthened the thermal contrast between sea and land,which strengthened monsoon circulation and led to the expansion of C4vegetation in South Asia.However,the East Asian summer monsoon,which can bring atmospheric precipitation and a climate suitable for C4plants to northern China,was not enough to affect the northern Tibetan Plateau.The Tibetan Plateau on the whole rose to an altitude of about 3000 m in the Miocene,becoming a barrier to mammalian migration;it reached its modern altitude of more than 4000 m in the Pliocene,thus forming a cryosphere environment,which led to the emergence of ancestral types of the Ice Age fauna. | Tao DENG Xiaomin FANG Qiang LI Shiqi WANG Feixiang WU Sukuan HOU Jiao MA Qigao JIANGZUO Danhui SUN Yan ZHENG Qinqin SHI Boyang SUN Lu LI | 2024 | Science China Earth Sciences2024,67,4: | 0 |
