| 6 | Acaricidal activities of whole cell suspension,cell-free supernatant, and crude cell extract of Xenorhabdus stokiae against mushroom mite (Luciaphorus sp.)显示文摘Xenorhabdus bacterium has been used as a biological control agent against Luciaphorus sp.,a mushroom mite endemic in Thailand. To develop an effective formulation of Xenorhabdus stokiae, treatments using different parts of X.stokiae isolate PB09 culture, including whole cell suspension,cell-free supernatant, and crude cell extract, were performed. The results show that different parts of X.stokiae isolate PB09 culture could induce variable effects on mite mortality and fecundity.Application with cell-free supernatant of X.stokiae culture resulted in both the highest mite mortality rate [(89.00±3.60)%] and the lowest mite fecundity [(41.33±23.69) eggs/gravid female].Whole cell suspen-sion of X.stokiae isolate PB09 culture was found to be slightly less effective than its cell-free supernatant, suggesting that X.stokiae was more likely to release its metabolites with acaricidal activities to the surrounding culture media.Crude cell extract of X.stokiae was not effective against mites.Cell-free supernatant of X.stokiae isolate PB09 was the most effective biological control agent and it could be conveniently used in future formulations instead of live bacteria. | Prapassorn BUSSAMAN Chirayu SA-UTH Paweena RATTANASENA Angsumarn CHANDRAPATYA | 2012 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2012,13,4: | 1 |

| 9 | Hepatocellular carcinoma screening and surveillance in 2293 chronic hepatitis B patients in an endemic area显示文摘AIM To determine the role of screening and surveillance of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in treatment-na?ve chronic hepatitis B(CHB) patients. METHODS We recruited 2293 CHB patients(both males and females; aged 20-65 years). All patients were screened and underwent surveillance using abdominal ultrasonography(AUS) and serum alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) assay every 6 mo. The diagnosis, staging and treatment of HCC followed the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases practice guidelines and the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer guidelines. The exclusion criteria included: decompensated cirrhosis; a history of any cancer in the last 5 years; previous antiviral treatment for CHB; concurrent infection with hepatitis C virus or human immunodeficiency virus; a Karnofsky Performance Status score < 60%; or any medical condition preventing eligibility to complete the protocol. The prevalence and incidence rates of HCC were determined; survival rates were calculated at 3-year post HCC diagnosis. The sensitivity and specificity were calculated on a per-patient basis.RESULTS Among 2293 treatment-na?ve CHB patients, seven cases had HCC at initial screening, giving a prevalence rate of 305 per 100000 persons; 3.3% were diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, all of which were Child-Pugh class A. With a median follow-up time of 42(range,3-48) mo,10 additional cases were diagnosed with HCC,resulting in an incidence rate of 143 per 100000 persons per year. This burden was as high as that reported in other studies from East Asian countries. All HCC patients were aged ≥ 40 years. Most were at an early stage(Stage 0,A or B); 14/17 cases were successfully treated with surgical resection or radiofrequency ablation, with a high 3-year survival rate of 90%. Hemangioma was the most common focal liver lesion in CHB patients detected by AUS; the main causes of AFP elevation at the initial screening were cirrhosis, increased alanine aminotransferase level and HCC. AUS detected 16/17 HCC cases whereas AFP levels ≥ 20 mg/L at diagnosis were observed in only 7/17 patients, most with a tumor size > 5 cm. For HCC screening and surveillance,AUS had a sensitivity and specificity of 94% and 82%,respectively,whereas the sensitivity and specificity of AFP at a cut-off value of ≥ 20 mg/L were 41% and 98%,respectively. Combined use of AUS and AFP assay did not improve effectiveness. CONCLUSION Implementation of active screening and surveillance using AUS to detect early-stage HCC in na?ve CHB patients aged ≥ 40 years in an endemic area is of benefit. | Teerapat Ungtrakul Chulabhorn Mahidol Pattra Chun-on Charlie Laohapand Surachate Siripongsakun Akeanong Worakitsitisatorn Sirachat Vidhayakorn Wariya Boonchuay Jiraporn Dechma Gaidganok Sornsamdang Kamonwan Soonklang Tassanee Sriprayoon Tawesak Tanwandee Chirayu U Auewarakul | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,34: | 1 |
| 10 | Protection of inactivated vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 infections in patients with comorbidities:a prospective cohort study显示文摘Protection against severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection of inactivated vaccines is not well characterized in people with comorbidities, who are at high risk of severe infection. We compared the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection after complete vaccination with Sinopharm/BBIBP in people with comorbidities(e.g.,autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, and diabetes)with healthy individuals using a Cox-proportional hazard model. In July-September 2021,a total of 10548 people(comorbidities,2143;healthy,8405)receiving the complete primary series of vaccination with Sinopharm/BBIBP in Bangkok,Thailand were prospectively followed for SARS-CoV-2 infection through text messaging and telephone interviewing for 6 months.A total of 295 infections from 284 participants were found.HRs(95%CI)of individuals with any comorbidities did not increase(unadjusted,1.02(0.77–1.36),P=0.89;adjusted,1.04(0.78–1.38),P=0.81).HRs significantly increased in the subgroup of autoimmune diseases(unadjusted,2.64(1.09–6.38),P=0.032;adjusted,4.45(1.83–10.83),P=0.001)but not in cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease,or diabetes. The protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection of the Sinopharm vaccine was similar in participants with any comorbidities vs.healthy individuals. However, the protection appeared lower in the subgroup of autoimmune diseases, which may reflect suboptimal immune responses among these people. | Kanchana Ngaosuwan Kamonwan Soonklang Chawin Warakul Chirayu Auewarakul Nithi Mahanonda | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,5: | 0 |
