Aerosol characteristics and impacts on weather and climate over the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘With themostmassive snow and ice globally between 60°S and 60°S ,the Tibetan Plateau(TP),also called the third pole of the world, plays significant roles in the weather, climate and lives in South Asia and East Asia and even the world[1–3].Investigating the variation of weather and the climate system over the TP has long been carried out, which is significant for fresh water supplies for over 1.4 billion people in Asia.Actually, the‘Third Pole Environment’program was initiated to call international efforts to understand both climate and environment changes on the plateau[1],which has already shown rapid warming and intensified cryospheric melt and water cycle.Chuanfeng Zhao Yikun Yang Hao Fan Jianping Huang Yunfei Fu Xiaoye Zhang Shichang Kang Zhiyuan Cong Husi Letu Massimo Menenti 2020National Science Review2020,7,3:7
Influence of CO_2 corrosion on rock structure and its mechanical characteristics显示文摘Influence of CO2 corrosion on reservoir mineralogical composition, pore structure and their mechanical characteristics was studied using XRD,SEM,rock tri-axial machine and core flow experimental equipment. It was found that the corrosion effect was mainly attributed to rock texture and structure, fluid composition and external dynamical conditions in the experimental conditions. For cores with bedding structures, their bedding surfaces were the preferential corrosion regions, because micro-cracks would evolve at these surfaces in the pressure-releasing process. However, for cores with massive structures controlled by stable water environment, the CO2 corrosion would result in pore enlargement and secondary pore formation. The gas velocity from outlet showed sharp increase in the injection process of CO2-H2O solution. This could be explained by two changes caused by corrosion. One was the opening and closure of micro-cracks.The other was particle migration. As the corrosion time increased, both tensile strength and compressive strength decreased, which confirmed decrease of cementation strength. It should also be noted that permeability increase and micro-cracks generation would pose damage to the capacity of CO2 geological storage.ZHAO RenBao 1,2,SUN HaiTao 3,WU YaSheng 3 &ZHAO ChuanFeng 1,2 1MOE Key Laboratory of Petroleum Engineering,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 2 Enhanced Oil Recovering Research Center,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 3Faculty of Natural Resource&Information Technology,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,3:3
Two Dimension C_3N_4/MoS_2 Nanocomposites with Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution under Visible Light Irradiation显示文摘MoS_2-decorated C_3N_4(C_3N_4/MoS_2) nanosheets hybrid photocatalysts were prepared by a simple sonication-impregnation method. Face-to-face lamellar heterojunctions were well established between two dimension(2D) C_3N_4 and MoS_2 nanosheets. The effects of MoS_2 content on the light absorption, charge transfer and photocatalytic activity of the hybrid samples were investigated. Characterization results show that MoS_2 nanosheets are well anchored on the face of C_3N_4 nanosheets and the composites have well dispersed layered morphology. After loading with MoS_2, the light absorption of composites was much improved, especially in visible-light region. The photocatalytic activities of C_3N_4/MoS_2 samples were evaluated based on the H_2 evolution under visible light irradiation(λ > 400 nm). When the loading amount of MoS_2 was increased to 5 wt%, the highest H_2 evolution rate(274 μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1)) was obtained. Compared with samples obtained from direct impregnation method, sonication pretreatment is favorable for the formation of 2D layered heterojuctions and thus improve the photocatalytic activity. Slightly deactivation of C_3N_4/MoS_2 composites could be observed when recycled due to the mild photocorrosion of MoS_2. Based on the band alignments of C_3N_4 and MoS_2, a possible photocatalytic mechanism was discussed, where MoS_2 could efficiently promote the separation of the photogenerated carriers of C_3N_4.崔言娟 YANG Chuanfeng TANG Sheng ZHAO Yimeng CHEN Fangyan 2019Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2019,34,1:2
Growth Rates of Fine Aerosol Particles at a Site near Beijing in June 2013显示文摘Growth of fine aerosol particles is investigated during the Aerosol–CCN–Cloud Closure Experiment campaign in June2013 at an urban site near Beijing. Analyses show a high frequency(~ 50%) of fine aerosol particle growth events, and show that the growth rates range from 2.1 to 6.5 nm h^(-1) with a mean value of ~ 5.1 nm h^(-1). A review of previous studies indicates that at least four mechanisms can affect the growth of fine aerosol particles: vapor condensation, intramodal coagulation, extramodal coagulation, and multi-phase chemical reaction. At the initial stage of fine aerosol particle growth, condensational growth usually plays a major role and coagulation efficiency generally increases with particle sizes. An overview of previous studies shows higher growth rates over megacity, urban and boreal forest regions than over rural and oceanic regions. This is most likely due to the higher condensational vapor, which can cause strong condensational growth of fine aerosol particles.Associated with these multiple factors of influence, there are large uncertainties for the aerosol particle growth rates, even at the same location.Chuanfeng ZHAO Yanan LI Fang ZHANG Yele SUN Pucai WANG 2018Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2018,35,2:2

Compensating Errors in Cloud Radiative and Physical Properties over the Southern Ocean in the CMIP6 Climate Models显示文摘The Southern Ocean is covered by a large amount of clouds with high cloud albedo. However,as reported by previous climate model intercomparison projects, underestimated cloudiness and overestimated absorption of solar radiation(ASR)over the Southern Ocean lead to substantial biases in climate sensitivity. The present study revisits this long-standing issue and explores the uncertainty sources in the latest CMIP6 models. We employ 10-year satellite observations to evaluate cloud radiative effect(CRE)and cloud physical properties in five CMIP6 models that provide comprehensive output of cloud, radiation, and aerosol. The simulated longwave, shortwave, and net CRE at the top of atmosphere in CMIP6 are comparable with the CERES satellite observations.Total cloud fraction(CF)is also reasonably simulated in CMIP6,but the comparison of liquid cloud fraction(LCF)reveals marked biases in spatial pattern and seasonal variations. The discrepancies between the CMIP6 models and the MODIS satellite observations become even larger in other cloud macroand micro-physical properties, including liquid water path(LWP),cloud optical depth(COD),and cloud effective radius,as well as aerosol optical depth(AOD).However, the large underestimation of both LWP and cloud effective radius(regional means~20%and 11%,respectively)results in relatively smaller bias in COD,and the impacts of the biases in COD and LCF also cancel out with each other, leaving CRE and ASR reasonably predicted in CMIP6.An error estimation framework is employed, and the different signs of the sensitivity errors and biases from CF and LWP corroborate the notions that there are compensating errors in the modeled shortwave CRE.Further correlation analyses of the geospatial patterns reveal that CF is the most relevant factor in determining CRE in observations, while the modeled CRE is too sensitive to LWP and COD.The relationships between cloud effective radius,LWP,and COD are also analyzed to explore the possible uncertainty sources in different models. Our study calls for more rigorous calibration of detailed cloud physical properties for future climate model development and climate projection.Lijun ZHAO Yuan WANG Chuanfeng ZHAO Xiquan DONG Yuk L.YUNG 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,12:1
Synthesis of multicore-shell FeS_(2)@C nanocapsules for stable potassiumion batteries显示文摘Transition-metal sulfides are widely used as anodes for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs) due to their low cost and high theoretical capacity. The practical application of such materials, however,is still impeded by their inherent low conductivity and obvious volume change during cycling.Herein,a flexible etchassisted sulfidation strategy is reported.According to the strategy, the multicore-shell(MCS) nanocapsule structure is constructed, and then mesoporous FeS2 nanoparticles are encapsulated in the hollow carbon shell with adjustable interior space. The product,MCS-FeS2@C-20,not only features optimized inner space, but also delivers a large reversible capacity(519 mAh g^(-1) at a current density of 50 mA g^(-1)),good rate capability(107 mAh g^(-1) at a high current density of 5 A g^(-1)) and excellent cycling stability(capacity retention rate of 84.2% over 500 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1)),making it the promising anode material for PIBs.Notably,potassium-ion full cells(MCS-FeS_(2)@C-20//K_(0.4)CoO_(2)) also show an improved potassium storage performance.Zhuangzhuang Zhang Liping Duan Yifan Xu Chuanfeng Zhao Jianchun Bao Jian Shen Xiaosi Zhou 2022Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,10:0
Enhancement of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-induced immunity by a Toll-like receptor 7 agonist adjuvant显示文摘Dear Editor,Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is an enveloped positive-sense single-stranded RNA(ssRNA)virus responsible for the global COVID-19 pandemic.Although vaccines for SARS-CoV-2 have been developed and applied worldwide, research on vaccine adjuvant is lacking.Viral infections normally elicit a range of innate immune responses through the activation of pattern recognition receptors(PRRs).Gen Li Meixing Yu Qiong Ke Jing Sun Yanwen Peng Chuanfeng Xiong Olivia Monteiro COVID-Infection and Immunity Investigation Group Jincun Zhao Andy P.Xiang 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,6:0
New Progress and Challenges in Cloud–Aerosol–Radiation–Precipitation Interactions:Preface for a Special Issue※显示文摘Clouds play essential roles in the Earth’s radiative energy balance and global hydrological cycle.Aerosols, the particles suspended in the air,can change cloud properties by interacting with radiation or serving as cloud condensation nuclei. However, the variations in cloud properties subjected to aerosol context, and their impacts on radiation and precipitation, are related to many complicating factors such as land types, meteorological conditions, cloud types, aerosol properties, and their co-varied relationships.Complication of cloud-aerosol-radiation-precipitation interactions makes representation of clouds one of the largest uncertainties in climate models for future climate prediction. It has also become a prevailing topic in atmospheric sciences over the past several decades.Chuanfeng ZHAO Yuan WANG Husi LETU 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,12:0
Macro-and Micro-physical Characteristics of Different Parts of Mixed Convective-stratiform Clouds and Differences in Their Responses to Seeding显示文摘This study investigates the cloud macro-and micro-physical characteristics in the convective and stratiform regions and their different responses to the seeding for mixed convective-stratiform clouds that occurred in Shandong province on 21 May 2018,based on the observations from the aircraft, the Suomi National Polar-Orbiting Partnership(NPP)satellite, and the high-resolution Himawari-8(H8)satellite.The aircraft observations show that convection was deeper and radar echoes were significantly enhanced with higher tops in response to seeding in the convective region. This is linked with the conversion of supercooled liquid droplets to ice crystals with released latent heat, resulting in strengthened updrafts, enhanced radar echoes, higher cloud tops, and more and larger precipitation particles. In contrast,in the stratiform cloud region, after the Silver Iodide(AgI)seeding, the radar echoes become significantly weaker at heights close to the seeding layer, with the echo tops lowered by 1.4–1.7 km.In addition,a hollow structure appears at the height of 6.2–7.8 km with a depth of about 1.6 km and a diameter of about 5.5 km,and features such as icing seeding tracks appear. These suggest that the transformation between droplets and ice particles was accelerated by the seeding in the stratiform part. The NPP and H8 satellites also show that convective activity was stronger in the convective region after seeding;while in the stratiform region,a cloud seeding track with a width of 1–3 km appears 10 km downstream of the seeding layer 15 minutes after the AgI seeding, which moves along the wind direction as width increases.Dejun LI Chuanfeng ZHAO Peiren LI Cao Liu Dianli GONG Siyao LIU Zhengteng YUAN Yingying CHEN 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,12:0
Understanding Third Pole Atmospheric Dynamics and Land Surface Processes and Their Associations with the Cryosphere,Air Quality, and Climate Change--Preface to the Special Issue on Third Pole Atmospheric Physics,Chemistry, and Hydrology显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau(TP),widely known as the Third Pole,is the highest and largest plateau on Earth. The TP not only plays an important role in influencing the atmospheric circulation, surface energy budget, ecology, weather, and climate but also acts as the Asian Water Tower by holding the largest ice mass outside the polar regions to supply fresh water to over 1.4 billion people downstream in Asia(Qin et al.,2006).The observed historical warming and projected future warming over the TP are much stronger than the corresponding global average(Wang et al.,2008).Glaciers on the TP have been retreating extensively in recent decades, driven by atmospheric warming and circulation changes associated with increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases and aerosols in the atmosphere,light-absorbing particles(e.g.,black carbon, dust)on snow, and other factors(Duan et al.,2012;Qian et al.,2011;Zhao et al.,2020).In addition, due to the thermal and dynam-ical effects of the TP,as well as its proximity to the stratosphere, unique atmospheric boundary layer structures often develop over the TP and in the surrounding areas, which have important impacts on local weather, climate, and mixing and transport of atmospheric constituents(Zhao et al.,2020).The TP is considered a natural laboratory to study multi-sphere inter-actions.A systematic mechanistic understanding of the atmospheric chemical and microphysical processes, climate change, cryospheric variability, and the subsequent environmental impacts is particularly important in the context of the unpreceden-ted warming over the TP(Yao et al.,2019).Yun Qian Hailong Wang Chuanfeng Zhao Chun Zhao Siyu Chen Xiao-Ming Hu Shichang Kang 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,7:0

Comparison of the Anthropogenic Emission Inventory for CMIP6 Models with a Country-Level Inventory over China and the Simulations of the Aerosol Properties显示文摘Anthropogenic emission inventory for aerosols and reactive gases is crucial to the estimation of aerosol radiative forcing and climate effects. Here, the anthropogenic emission inventory for AerChemMIP,endorsed by CMIP6,is briefly introduced. The CMIP6 inventory is compared with a country-level inventory(i.e.,MEIC)over China from 1986 to 2015.Discrepancies are found in the yearly trends of the two inventories, especially after 2006.The yearly trends of the aerosol burdens simulated by CESM2 using the two inventories follow their emission trends and deviate after the mid-2000s,while the simulated aerosol optical depths(AODs)show similar trends. The difference between the simulated AODs is much smaller than the difference between model and observation.Although the simulated AODs agree with the MODIS satellite retrievals for country-wide average, the good agreement is an offset between the underestimation in eastern China and the overestimation in western China.Low-biased precursor gas of SO_(2),overly strong convergence of the wind field, overly strong dilution and transport by summer monsoon circulation, too much wet scavenging by precipitation, and overly weak aerosol swelling due to low-biased relative humidity are suggested to be responsible for the underestimated AOD in eastern China. This indicates that the influence of the emission inventory uncertainties on simulated aerosol properties can be overwhelmed by model biases of meteorology and aerosol processes. It is necessary for climate models to perform reasonably well in the dynamical, physical, and chemical processes that would influence aerosol simulations.Tianyi FAN Xiaohong LIU Chenglai WU Qiang ZHANG Chuanfeng ZHAO Xin YANG Yanglian LI 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,1:0
