| 3 | Analysis of Autopilot Disengagements Occurring During Autonomous Vehicle Testing显示文摘In present-day highly-automated vehicles, there are occasions when the driving system disengages and the human driver is required to take-over. This is of great importance to a vehicle's safety and ride comfort. In the U.S state of California, the Autonomous Vehicle Testing Regulations require every manufacturer testing autonomous vehicles on public roads to submit an annual report summarizing the disengagements of the technology experienced during testing. On 1 January 2016,seven manufacturers submitted their first disengagement reports:Bosch, Delphi, Google, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Tesla Motors. This work analyses the data from these disengagement reports with the aim of gaining abetter understanding of the situations in which a driver is required to takeover, as this is potentially useful in improving the Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE) Level 2 and Level 3 automation technologies.Disengagement events from testing are classified into different groups based on attributes and the causes of disengagement are investigated and compared in detail. The mechanisms and time taken for take-over transition occurred in disengagements are studied. | 4 | Switchgrass as a bioenergy crop in the Loess Plateau, China:Potential lignocellulosic feedstock production and environmental conservation显示文摘A large portion of the Loess Plateau of China is characterized as 'marginal' with serious land degradation and desertification problems. Consequently, two policies, Grain for Green and Western Development Action were established by the Chinese government in response to the demand for ecological protection and economic development in the Loess Plateau. These policies are designed to increase forest cover, expand farmlands, and enhance soil and water conservation, while creating sustainable vegetation restoration. Perennial grasses have gained attention as bioenergy feedstocks due to their high biomass yields, low inputs, and greater ecosystem services compared to annual crops. Moreover, perennial grasses limit nutrient runoff and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and soil losses while sequestering carbon. Additionally, perennial grasses can generate economic returns for local farmers through producing bioenergy feedstock or forage on marginal lands. | 5 | Advances in surgical management for locally recurrent rectal cancer: How far have we come?显示文摘Locally recurrent rectal cancer(LRRC) is a complex disease with far-reaching implications for the patient. Until recently, research was limited regarding surgical techniques that can increase the ability to perform an en bloc resection with negative margins. This has changed in recent years and therefore outcomes for these patients have improved. Novel radical techniques and adjuncts allow for more radical resections thereby improving the chance of negative resection margins and outcomes. In the past contraindications to surgery included anterior involvement of the pubic bone, sacral invasions above the level of S2/S3 and lateral pelvic wall involvement. However, current data suggests that previously unresectable cases may now be feasible with novel techniques, surgical approaches and reconstructive surgery. The publications to date have only reported small patient pools with the research conducted by highly specialised units. Moreover, the short and long-term oncological outcomes are currently under review. The structure of CDC is derivative of the original carbide structure and contains nanoscale porosity and both sp2 and sp3 bonded carbon in a variety of nanoscale structures. CDC can be produced as a thin film on hard carbides to improve their tri- bological performance. CDC coatings are distinguished by their low friction coefficients and high wear resis- tance in many important industrial environments and by their resistance to spallation and delamination. | 11 | Campylobacter concisus and inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘Investigation of the possible role of Campylobacter concisus(C. concisus) in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) is an emerging research area. Despite the association found between C. concisus and IBD, it has been difficult to explain how C. concisus, a bacterium that is commonly present in the human oral cavity, may contribute to the development of enteric diseases. The evidence presented in this review shows that some C. concisus strains in the oral cavity acquired zonula occludens toxin(zot) gene from a virus(prophage) and that C. concisus Zot shares conserved motifs with both Vibrio cholerae Zot receptor binding domain and human zonulin receptor binding domain. Both Vibrio cholerae Zot and human zonulin are known to increase intestinal permeability by affecting the tight junctions. Increased intestinal permeability is a feature of IBD. | 13 | To stay or to leave: Stem cells and progenitor cells navigating the S1P gradient显示文摘Most hematopoietic stem progenitor cells (HSPCs) reside in bone marrow (BM), but a small amount of HSPCs have been found to circulate between BM and tissues through blood and lymph. Several lines of evidence suggest that sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) gradient triggers HSPC egression to blood circulation after mobilization from BM stem cell niches. Stem cells also visit certain tissues. After a temporary 36 h short stay in local tissues, HSPCs go to lymph in response to S1P gradient between lymph and tissue and eventually enter the blood circulation. S1P also has a role in the guidance of the primitive HSPCs homing to BM in vivo, as S1P analogue FTY720 treatment can improve HSPC BM homing and engraftment. In stress conditions, various stem cells or progenitor cells can be attracted to local injured tissues and participate in local tissue cell differentiation and tissue rebuilding through modulation the expression level of S1P1, S1P2 or S1P3 receptors. | 20 | Emergency department rectal temperatures in over 10 years:A retrospective observational study显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fever in patients can provide an important clue to the etiology of a patient's symptoms.Non-invasive temperature sites(oral,axillary,temporal) may be insensitive due to a variety of factors.This has not been well studied in adult emergency department patients.To determine whether emergency department triage temperatures detected fever adequately when compared to a rectal temperature.METHODS:A retrospective chart review was made of 27 130 adult patients in a high volume,urban emergency department over an eight-year period who received first a non-rectal triage temperature and then a subsequent rectal temperature.RESULTS:The mean difference in temperatures between the initial temperature and the rectal temperature was 1.3 °F(P<0.001),with 25.9%of the patients having higher rectal temperatures >2°F,and 5.0%having higher rectal temperatures >4 °F.The mean difference among the patients who received oral,axillary,and temporal temperatures was 1.2 °F(PO.001),1.8 °F(PO.001),and 1.2 °F(P<0.001) respectively.About 18.1%of the patients were initially afebrile and found to be febrile by rectal temperature,with an average difference of 2.5 °F(P<0.001).These patients had a higher rate of admission(61.4%,P<0.005),and were more likely to be admitted to the hospital for a higher level of care,such as an intensive care unit,when compared with the full cohort(12.5%vs.5.8%,P<0.005).CONCLUSIONS:There are significant differences between rectal temperatures and noninvasive triage temperatures in this emergency department cohort.In almost one in five patients,fever was missed by triage temperature. | Graham A.Walker Daniel Runde Daniel M.Rolston Dan Wiener Jarone Lee | 2013 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2013,4,2: | 2 |
