| 18 | Barriers for resuming endoscopy service in the context of COVID-19 pandemic:A multicenter survey from Egypt显示文摘BACKGROUND The current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has affected routine endoscopy service across the gastroenterology community. This led to the suspension of service provision for elective cases.AIM To assess the potential barriers for resuming the endoscopy service in Egypt.METHODS A national online survey, four domains, was disseminated over a period of 4 wk in August 2020.The primary outcome of the survey was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the endoscopy service and barriers to the full resumption of a disabled center(s).RESULTS A hundred and thirteen Egyptian endoscopy centers participated in the survey. The waiting list was increased by≥50% in 44.9% of areas with clusters of COVID-19 cases(n=49)and in 35.5% of areas with sporadic cases(n=62).Thirty nine(34.8%)centers suffered from staff shortage, which was considered a barrier against service resumption by 86.4% of centers in per-protocol analysis. In multivariate analysis, the burden of cases in the unit locality, staff shortage/recovery and the availability of separate designated rooms for COVID-19 cases could markedly affect the resumption of endoscopy practice(P=0.029,<0.001 and 0.02,respectively)and Odd’s ratio(0.15,1.8 and 0.16,respectively).CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic has led to restrictions in endoscopic volumes. The staff shortage/recovery and the availability of COVID-19 designed rooms are the most important barriers against recovery.Increasing working hours and dividing endoscopy staff into teams may help to overcome the current situation. | Omar Elshaarawy Sameh Aldesoky Lashen Nahed A Makhlouf Doaa Abdeltawab Mariam Salah Zaghloul Rasha M Ahmed Hayam Fathy Shimaa Afifi Muhammad Abdel-Gawad Eman Abdelsameea Sherief Abd-Elsalam Salem Youssef Mohamed Mohammed Tag-Adeen Mina Tharwat Ahmed Alzamzamy Ahmed Nasr Bekhit Alshaimaa M Eid Abeer Awad Mohamed-Naguib Wifi Mohammad Aamr Waleed A Abd El Dayem Mohamed Alboraie | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,43: | 0 |
| 19 | Detection of virulent strains of Helicobacter pylori and its relation to symptoms and signs in children显示文摘Objective:To detect the prevalence of Helicobacter polori(H.pylori) in a group of pediatric patients complaining of gastrointestinal disorders, and to identify the virulent strains of H. pylori and its relation to peptic disease. Methods:The study included 60 patients(41 males and 19 females),aged from 6 months to 14 years, with complaining of different gastrointestinal troubles.Anti-H.pylori IgG antibodies were used.Thorough examination of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum was done in all patients using a fibreoptic endoscopy. In addition, gastric antral biopsies were taken for diagnosis of H.pylori infection in the following test: rapid urease test, histopathologic examination and culture. And cytotoxin assay of virulent strains was employed.H.pylori infection was diagnosed if 3 or more tests for diagnosis were found to be positive.Results:33 out of 60 patients(55%) was positive.12(20%) patients had positive toxin producing strains(virulent strains).Virulent strain had a significantly closer relationship with recurrent abdominal pain, while no difference was found in other symptoms. Age of patients showed a highly significant positive correlation with virulent H.pylori strain. Histopathological finding revealed that oesophagitis was significandy common in patients with negative H.pylori.Endoscopy and histopathological findings revealed that virulent strain had a significandy higher gastritis and oesophagitis rates. Conclusion:Infection by virulent strains of H.pylori in children is not uncommon:It is associated with endoscopic and histopathologic changes. All cases infected with virulent strain showed positive results by using rapid urease test, culture and IgG antibodies. | Fayed S Abd El Dayem S Hussein H Sherief M El-Naghi S | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,1: | 0 |
| 20 | Assesment of polyunsaturated fatty acids in cord blood of infants of diabetic mothers显示文摘Objective:To assess whether infants of diabetic mothers [pre pregnancy diabetics(PPD)and gestational diabetics mellitus(GDM)] have compromised arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids in their plasma and the relationship with deficiency of the same compounds in their mothers. Methods:This study was conducted on 30 diabetic mothers(both PPD and GDM)and their infants.Twenty healthy infants and their mothers with age and sex matched were included as controls. All infant(of diabetic and non diabetic mothers)were subjected to assessment of APGAR Scoring, thorough history taking and anthropometric measures.Lipid profile components as well as polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA)were assessed in diabetic GDM and PPD and non diabetic mothers as well as in their babies.Results:High-density lipoproteir(HDL)level was found to be significantly lower in diabetic mothers(specially those with PPD)compared to non diabetic ones, whereas no significant difference was found between babies of the two groups. Also, the current study revealed that diabetic mothers(GDM and PPD)and their babies had significantly higher levels of PUFA precursors linoleic acids(LA)and alpha linoleic acids(ALA).PUFA arachidonic acid(AA)and docosahexaenoic acids(DHA)were found to be significantly lower in diabetic mothers(GDM and PPD)compared to non diabetic mothers, and same results were found in the babies of the two groups. Conclusion:Neonates with diabetic mothers(both GDM and PPD)have highly compromised plasma levels of AA and DHA PUFA,which affects the child well being by far,and produces hazardous multi-system complications on the long run. | Galila M Mokhar Soha M Abd El Dayem Nermine H Sayed Sohair abd El Maksod Manal El Shamaa Hani M El Mikaty | 2009 | 海南医学院学报2009,15,11: | 0 |
