1Enhanced secondary pollution offset reduction of primary emissions during COVID-19 lockdown in China显示文摘To control the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus(COVID-19),China imposed nationwide restrictions on the movement of its population(lockdown)after the Chinese New Year of 2020,leading to large reductions in economic activities and associated emissions.Despite such large decreases in primary pollution,there were nonetheless several periods of heavy haze pollution in eastern China,raising questions about the well-established relationship between human activities and air quality.Here,using comprehensive measurements and modeling,we show that the haze during the COVID lockdown was driven by enhancements of secondary pollution.In particular,large decreases in NOx emissions from transportation increased ozone and nighttime NO_(3)radical formation,and these increases in atmospheric oxidizing capacity in turn facilitated the formation of secondary particulate matter.Our results,afforded by the tragic natural experiment of the COVID-19 pandemic,indicate that haze mitigation depends upon a coordinated and balanced strategy for controlling multiple pollutants.Xin Huang Aijun Ding Jian Gao Bo Zheng Derong Zhou Ximeng Qi Rong Tang Jiaping Wang Chuanhua Ren Wei Nie Xuguang Chi Zheng Xu Liangduo Chen Yuanyuan Li Fei Che Nini Pang Haikun Wang Dan Tong Wei Qin Wei Cheng Weijing Liu Qingyan Fu Baoxian Liu Fahe Chai Steven JDavis Qiang Zhang Kebin He 2021National Science Review2021,8,2:47

4Surface Modification of Bamboo-based Activated Carbon for Methylene Blue Removal显示文摘The feasibility of biomass-based activated carbon has received tremendous attention owing to its excellent properties,such as insensitivity,good adsorption performance,and potential to reduce the strong dependence on non-reproducible precursors.In this study,bamboo-based activated carbon(BAC)was used as the raw material for methylene blue(MB)removal.Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB),sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS),and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate(SDBS)were used as BAC surface modifiers.The morphologies and structures of the samples were characterized.In addition,the effects of the surfactant type and concentration on the adsorption-based removal of MB from aqueous solutions by the modified BAC were systematically investigated.For the 0.2 g/L MB solution,the MB removal rate reached 99.7%when the concentration of CTAB was 0.25 g/L.Moreover,the kinetic model curve of 0.25 g/L CTAB-modified BAC(CAC)was consistent with the Freundlich isotherm model.This research work enriches the technical pathway of modification and application of activated carbon,which is not only beneficial for realizing the high-value utilization of biomass bamboo resources but also can play an active role in guiding the treatment of MB-containing wastewater.Derong Tang Ruonan Zhao Feiyun Li Tianying Chen Yanjun Tang 2023Paper And Biomaterials2023,8,1:0
5Supramolecular cyclization induced emission enhancement in a pillar[5]arene probe for discrimination of spermine显示文摘Early diagnosis and treatment of cancer requires the development of tools that are both sensitive and selective in detecting spermine.In this study,we presented a'supramolecular cyclization-induced emission enhancement'strategy for the sensitive and selective detection of spermine.A new pillar[5]arene probe(P1)demonstrated excellent solution/solid dual-state emission properties,and the addition of certain spermine(Spm)resulted in fluorescence enhancement due to the synergy of multiple weak interactions that restricted the free motion of P1 in the P1⊃Spm complex.This mechanism was further confirmed by time-resolved spectroscopy,DFT calculations,and IGM analysis.With its low limit of detection and high selectivity,P1 is a promising tool for measuring spermine in artificial urine samples.Yibin Zhou Hao Tang Hanlun Wu Xiaomei Jiang Lingyun Wang Derong Cao 2024Chinese Chemical Letters2024,35,1:0
6Hexnut[12]arene and its derivatives: Synthesis, host-guest properties, and application as nonporous adaptive crystals显示文摘Hexnut[12]arene(HN[12])and its derivatives,a new class of sixfold macrocyclic arenes,were designed and synthesized in reasonable yield by a one-pot reaction at room temperature using dimethoxymethane as a methylene source.HN[12],which bears a large,symmetric,and rigid cavity,was easily functionalized at both the methylene bridges and the hydroquinone units.A water-soluble fluorescent HN[12]was synthesized and used as a host to encapsulate benzyl viologen dichloride in water with a high binding affinity of(3.4±0.2)×10^(6)M^(-1).The nonporous adaptive crystal(NAC)of HN[12]was found to capture not only inorganic molecules(iodine)but also trace amounts of large organic molecules(basic fuchsine)from water,which greatly expands the scope of NACs for adsorption.Jian Cheng Bingbing Gao Hao Tang Zhihong Sun Linxian Xu Lingyun Wang Derong Cao 2022Science China Chemistry2022,65,3:0
