| 1 | Enhanced secondary pollution offset reduction of primary emissions during COVID-19 lockdown in China显示文摘To control the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus(COVID-19),China imposed nationwide restrictions on the movement of its population(lockdown)after the Chinese New Year of 2020,leading to large reductions in economic activities and associated emissions.Despite such large decreases in primary pollution,there were nonetheless several periods of heavy haze pollution in eastern China,raising questions about the well-established relationship between human activities and air quality.Here,using comprehensive measurements and modeling,we show that the haze during the COVID lockdown was driven by enhancements of secondary pollution.In particular,large decreases in NOx emissions from transportation increased ozone and nighttime NO_(3)radical formation,and these increases in atmospheric oxidizing capacity in turn facilitated the formation of secondary particulate matter.Our results,afforded by the tragic natural experiment of the COVID-19 pandemic,indicate that haze mitigation depends upon a coordinated and balanced strategy for controlling multiple pollutants. | Xin Huang Aijun Ding Jian Gao Bo Zheng Derong Zhou Ximeng Qi Rong Tang Jiaping Wang Chuanhua Ren Wei Nie Xuguang Chi Zheng Xu Liangduo Chen Yuanyuan Li Fei Che Nini Pang Haikun Wang Dan Tong Wei Qin Wei Cheng Weijing Liu Qingyan Fu Baoxian Liu Fahe Chai Steven JDavis Qiang Zhang Kebin He | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,2: | 47 |

| 3 | Development and characterization of synthetic amphiploids of Oryza sativa and Oryza latifolia显示文摘Oryza sativa and Oryza latifolia belong to the AA and CCDD genomes of Oryza, respectively. In this study, amphiploids were obtained from the tube seedlings of O. sativa 9 O. latifolia F1 hybrids by treatment with colchicine, an agent for chromosome doubling. Subsequently, amphiploids were investigated using the methods of morphology, genomic in situ hybridization, and molecular markers. Amphiploids were characterized by a shorter plant height, larger diameter of stem, longer and wider leaves, darker leaf color, decreased spikelets per panicle and panicle length, and larger spikelets and anthers than the original F1 hybrid. Based on the mitotic metaphase chromosome number of the investigated root tips, the somatic chromosome number of the amphiploid is 2n = 72.Additionally, the amphiploid is an allohexaploid, and its genomic constitution is AACCDD by genomic in situ hybridization analysis. | 6 | ENSO and Southeast Asian biomass burning modulate subtropical trans-Pacific ozone transport显示文摘Trans-Pacific transport of enhanced ozone plumes has been mainly attributed to fossil fuel combustion in Asia in spring, but less attention has been paid to vegetation fires in Asia. Here we show that the El Ni?noSouthern Oscillation(ENSO)-modulated fires in Southeast Asia, rather than Asian fossil fuel plumes,dominate the interannual variability of springtime trans-Pacific transport of ozone across the entire North Pacific Ocean. During El Ni?no springs, the intensified fires from both the Indochinese Peninsula and Indonesia, together with large-scale circulation anomalies, result in enhanced ozone plumes that stretch over 15 000 km in both the lower-middle and upper troposphere. This enhancement is also observed in the in situ measurements of ozone concentration, with an almost 10% increase at Mauna Loa Observatory,Hawaii, a unique site to monitor the long-distance transport over the North Pacific. | 7 | Influence of Different Fertilization Levels on Maize Yield and Fertilizer Effect Based on the '3414' Experimental Design Scheme显示文摘In order to provide scientific basis for rational fertilization of maize under different soil quality and fertility,the effect of combined application of NPK on yield and fertilizer effect of different maize varieties was studied by using '3414' experimental design scheme in this paper. The results showed that there were significant differences in ear length,ear diameter,barren ear tip length,kernel number per spike,kernel weight and yield among different fertilization treatments. Fertilization can improve the agronomic characters of maize and increase the yield.The yield increase of maize in two experimental plots( MHQ and HZY) was 11. 0%-64. 3% and 0. 2%-61. 9%,respectively. There was obvious interaction effect among nitrogen,phosphorus and potassium fertilizers,the yield of maize was the highest at the level of medium nitrogen,medium phosphorus and medium potassium fertilization,and the fertilizer effect was in the order of N > P_2O_5> K_2O.
