| 3 | Sediment dynamic responses of coastal salt marsh to typhoon “KAEMI” in Quanzhou Bay,Fujian Province,China显示文摘In order to understand the mechanisms of coastal protection by salt marshes during typhoon events,in situ measurements of water level,tidal current speed and direction,and suspended sediment concen-tration (SSC) were carried out using Electromagnetic Current Meter (EMCM,AEM HR),miniature pres-sure sensor (MkV/D) and Seapoint Turbidity Meter (STM) sensor on a tidal flat in Quanzhou Bay,during the period when the typhoon 'KAEMI' was passing through the region. The analysis of the data ob-tained shows that the near-bed current speed within the Spartina alterniflora marsh was generally be-low 5 cm s-1,which was apparently smaller than on the adjacent bare flat (i.e. 5―30 cm s-1). The change in the near-bed current speed in response to the typhoon event was not significant within the S. al-terniflora marsh,but the current direction was influenced by the typhoon. The effect of the typhoon on the SSC was highly significant,with the SSC reaching 13 to 19 times the values on the bare flat or within the marsh under fair weather conditions; the near-bed SSC within the marsh was higher than on the bare flat,after the typhoon landed. The near-bed suspended sediment fluxes within the marsh and on the bare flat during the typhoon event were both enhanced,i.e.,4 times larger than under fair weather conditions. During the ebb,the bottom shear stress on the bare flat exceeded the critical shear stress for sediment motion for most of the ebb duration of the tide and,therefore,the bed sediment was eroding,with the erosion flux after the typhoon landed being around 2 to 3 times the value associated with fair weather conditions. In contrast,within the S. alterniflora marsh,the bottom shear stress was mostly lower than the critical shear stress for sediment motion,or lower than the critical shear stress for the maintenance of suspension; hence,the marsh surface was dominated by settling processes,with a settling flux during the typhoon being 3 to 6 times compared with the fair weather situations. The settling flux during the ebb was up to twice the magnitude for the flood. | 4 | Dynamically controlling terahertz wavefronts with cascaded metasurfaces显示文摘Dynamically controlling terahertz(THz)wavefronts in a designable fashion is highly desired in practice.However,available methods working at microwave frequencies do not work well in the THz regime due to lacking suitable tunable elements with submicrometer sizes.Here,instead of locally controlling individual meta-atoms in a THz metasurface,we show that rotating different layers(each exhibiting a particular phase profile)in a cascaded metadevice at different speeds can dynamically change the effective Jonesmatrix property of the whole device,thus enabling extraordinary manipulations on the wavefront and polarization characteristics of a THz beam impinging on the device.After illustrating our strategy based on model calculations,we experimentally demonstrate two proof-of-concept metadevices,each consisting of two carefully designed all-silicon transmissive metasurfaces exhibiting different phase profiles.Rotating two metasurfaces inside the fabricated devices at different speeds,we experimentally demonstrate that the first metadevice can efficiently redirect a normally incident THz beam to scan over a wide solid-angle range,while the second one can dynamically manipulate both the wavefront and polarization of a THz beam.Our results pave the way to achieving dynamic control of THz beams,which is useful in many applications,such as THz radar,and bio-and chemical sensing and imaging. | Xiaodong Cai Rong Tang Haoyang Zhou Qiushi Li Shaojie Ma Dongyi Wang Tong Liu Xiaohui Ling Wei Tan Qiong He Shiyi Xiao Lei Zhou | 2021 | Advanced Photonics2021,3,3: | 8 |
| 5 | Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) integrity and its relations to retinal microvasculature and microcirculation in myopic eyes显示文摘Background:The aim was to determine retinal nerve fiber layer function and its relations to retinal microvasculature and microcirculation in patients with myopia.Method:Polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography(PS-OCT)was used to measure phase retardation per unit depth(PR/UD,proportional to the birefringence)of the retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL).Optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)was used to measure macular vessel density analyzed using fractal analysis.In addition,a retinal function imager(RFI)was used to measure macular blood flow velocities in arterioles and venules.Twenty-two patients with moderate myopia(MM,refraction>3 and<6 diopters),seventeen patients with high myopia(HM,≥6 D)and 29 healthy control subjects(HC,≤3.00 D)were recruited.One eye of each patient was imaged.Results:Although the average PR/UD of the RNFL in the HM group did not reach a significant level,the birefringence of the inferior quadrant was significantly lower(P<0.05)in the HM group compared to the HC group.Significant thinning of the average RNFL and focal thinning of RFNL in temporal,superior and inferior quadrants in the HM group were found,compared to the HC group(P<0.05).There were no significant differences of retinal blood flow velocities in arterioles and venules among groups(P>0.05).The macular vessel density in both superficial and deep vascular plexuses was significantly lower in the HM group than in the other two groups(P<0.05)as well as in the MM group than in the HC group(P<0.05).The average PR/UD and PR/UD in the inferior quadrant were not related to refraction,axial length,blood flow velocities and macular vessel densities(r ranged from−0.09 to 0.19,P>0.05).Conclusions:The impairment of the retinal nerve fiber birefringence in the HM group may be one of the independent features in high myopic eyes,which appeared not to relate to macular microvascular density and blood flow velocity. | Dongyi Qu Ying Lin Hong Jiang Yi Shao Yingying Shi Shriya Airen Giovanni Gregori Jianhua Wang | 2018 | Eye and Vision2018,5,1: | 5 |
| 6 | Efficient generation of complex vectorial optical fields with metasurfaces显示文摘Vectorial optical fields(VOFs)exhibiting arbitrarily designed wavefronts and polarization distributions are highly desired in photonics.However,current methods to generate them either require complicated setups or exhibit limited functionalities,which is unfavorable for integration-optics applications.Here,we propose a generic approach to efficiently generate arbitrary VOFs based on metasurfaces exhibiting full-motrix yet inhomogeneous Jones-matrix distributions.We illustrate our strategy with analytical calculations on a model system and an experimental demonstration of a meta-device that can simultaneously deflect light and manipulate its polarization.Based on these benchmark results,we next experimentally demonstrate the generation of a far-field VOF exhibiting both a vortex wavefront and an inhomogeneous polarization distribution.Finally,we design/fabricate a meta-device and experimentally demonstrate that it can generate a complex near-field VOF-a cylindrically polarized surface plasmon wave possessing orbital angular momentum-with an efficiency of-34%.Our results establish an efficient and ultracompact platform for generating arbitrary predesigned VOFs in both the near-and far-fields,which may find many applications in optical manipulation and communications. | Dongyi Wang Feifei Liu Tong Liu Shulin Sun Qiong He Lei Zhou | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,4: | 3 |

| 8 | Regulation of fruit ripening by the brassinosteroid biosynthetic gene SlCYP90B3 via an ethylenedependent pathway in tomato显示文摘The essential role of ethylene in fruit ripening has been thoroughly studied.However,the involvement of brassinosteroids(BRs)in the regulation of fruit ripening and their relationship with the ethylene pathway are poorly understood.In the current study,we found that BRs were actively synthesized during tomato fruit ripening.We then generated transgenic lines overexpressing or silencing SlCYP90B3,which encodes a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes the rate-limiting step of BR synthesis.The expression level of SlCYP90B3 was positively related to the contents of bioactive BRs as well as the ripening process in tomato fruit,including enhanced softening and increased soluble sugar and flavor volatile contents.Both carotenoid accumulation and ethylene production were strongly correlated with the expression level of SlCYP90B3,corroborated by the altered expression of carotenoid biosynthetic genes as well as ethylene pathway genes in transgenic tomato fruits.However,the application of the ethylene perception inhibitor 1-methycyclopropene(1-MCP)abolished the promotion effect of SlCYP90B3 overexpression on carotenoid accumulation.Taken together,these results increase our understanding of the involvement of SlCYP90B3 in bioactive BR biosynthesis as well as fruit ripening in tomato,thus making SlCYP90B3 a target gene for improvement of visual,nutritional and flavor qualities of tomato fruits with no yield penalty. | Songshen Hu Lihong Liu Shuo Li Zhiyong Shao Fanliang Meng Haoran Liu Wenyi Duan Dongyi Liang Changqing Zhu Tao Xu Qiaomei Wang | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 2 |
| 9 | Combined Effect of Aluminum Content and Layer Structure on the Oxidation Performance of Ti_(1-x)Al_xN Based Coatings显示文摘TiN,Ti_(1-x)AI_xN single layer coatings and TiN/Ti_(1-x)AI_xN multilayer coatings were deposited on SKH51 tool steel substrate by arc ion plating.The coatings were annealed in air to study the effect of aluminum and film structure on the oxidation performance.The surface morphology and structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.The element distribution on the cross section was analyzed by electron probe microscopy.It is found that the oxidation resistance of these Ti_(1-x)Al_xN based coatings is mainly attributed to aluminum content in them.In comparison with the Ti_(1-x)Al_xN single layer coating,the TiN layer inserting into the Ti_(1-x)Al_xN in a multilayer coating increases the tendency of Ti diffusion toward the surface and forms a Ti-enriched top surface oxide layer,thus degrades the oxidation resistance.As far as the oxidation resistance is concerned in this study,Ti_(0.33)Al_(0.67)N single layer coating performs the best among all coatings.The kinetic of oxidation behavior of all coatings presents two definite stages.One is a slow oxidation growth which conforms to parabolic law,and the other presents severe mass gain with oxidation duration.The annealing time for severe oxidation initiation is responsible to Fe_2O_3formation in the oxide scale. | Jihua Peng Dongyi Su Chengxi Wang | 2014 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,8: | 1 |

| 16 | Crucial role of iron plaque on thallium uptake by rice plant显示文摘Iron plaque is a Fe-containing oxide film produced by the oxidation of Fe(II)in the rice root system under the combined action of oxygen infiltration and other microorganisms.Owing to its special surface structure and physio-chemical properties,the iron plaque has a strong absorption capacity for a variety of heavy metal ions.This study aimed to first investigate the effects of Fe species on the geochemical fractionation of Tl in typical paddy soil systems affected by industrial activities,followed by pot culture experiments to probe the effects of Fe species on the uptake and translocation of Tl in rice plants.The results of field work preliminarily showed that iron at different valences affected the conversion of the Tl geochemical fraction in the soil.Oxidizable Tl exerted significant positive correlation relationships with Fe2+and negative correlation relationships with Fe3+,while reducible Tl only displayed a positive correlation with Fe3+.Further analysis by pot culture experiments revealed that the contents of Fe were significantly positively correlated with Tl contents in Fe plaque(R2=0.529).In contrast,the water-soluble Tl contents in the soil were significantly negatively correlated with the contents of Fe(R2=–0.90,p<0.05).It suggests that the iron plaque promoted the absorption and fixation of Tl on the root surface of rice plants,causing Tl to accumulate in the iron plaque.Besides,the Tl content in the Fe plaque on the root surface of rice plants was greater than that in the above-ground tissues,which indicates that most Fe plaque exerts a certain degree of inhibition on Tl migration into the above-ground tissues of rice plants.All these findings indicate that Fe film is also an important carrier of Tl transfer in the soil–rice plant system,which provides new scientific support for the remediation of typical Tl-contaminated rice fields. | Xiaoyin Zhang Wenhuan Yuan Juan Liu Haoran Li Han Cai Haiyao Hu Dongyi Ren Yuhua Zhang Yuxiang Shen Jin Wang | 2023 | Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2023,5,1: | 0 |
