| 1 | Serum pepsinogen Ⅱ is a better diagnostic marker in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To investigate screening makers for gastric cancer,we assessed the association between gastric cancer and serum pepsinogens(PGs).METHODS:The subjects comprised 450 patients with gastric cancer,111 individuals with gastric atrophy,and 961 healthy controls.Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) immunoglobulin G(IgG),PGⅠand PG Ⅱ were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Gastric atrophy and gastric cancer were diagnosed by endoscopy and histopathological examinations.Odds ratios and 95%CIs were calculated using multivariate logistic regression.RESULTS:Rates of H.pylori infection remained high in Northeastern China.Rates of H.pylori IgG positivity were greater in the gastric cancer and gastric atrophy groups compared to the control group(69.1% and 75.7% vs 49.7%,P < 0.001).Higher levels of PG Ⅱ(15.9 μg/L and 13.9 μg/L vs 11.5 μg/L,P < 0.001) and lower PGⅠ/PG Ⅱ ratio(5.4 and 4.6 vs 8.4,P < 0.001) were found in patients with gastric cancer or gastric atrophy compared to healthy controls,whereas no correlation was found between the plasma PGⅠconcentration and risk of gastric cancer(P = 0.537).In addition,multivariate logistic analysis indicated that H.pylori infection and atrophic gastritis were independent risk factors for gastric cancer.Lower plasma PGⅠ/PG Ⅱ ratio was associated with higher risks of atrophy and gastric cancer.Furthermore,plasma PG Ⅱ?level?significantly?correlated?with?H.pyloriinfected gastric cancer.CONCLUSION:Serum PG Ⅱ concentration and PG Ⅰ/PG Ⅱ ratio are potential biomarkers for H.pyloriinfected gastric disease.PG Ⅱ is independently associated with risk of gastric cancer. | Xue-Yuan Cao Zhi-Fang Jia Mei-Shan Jin Dong-Hui Cao Fei Kong Jian Suo Jing Jiang | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,48: | 27 |

Rice varieties and individual plants with ailelopathic traits demonstrated their ailelopathic effects by producing and releasing specific secondary metabolites into environment. Therefore, using specific secondary metabolites as markers, the ailelopathic potentials of rice varieties and individual plants could be evaluated by HPLC. The ailelopathic potentials of 3000 rice accessions and some individual plants of F3 and F4 were evaluated by this method in 1 a. If these accessions and plants were evaluated by the traditional method in the field, it would take more than 10 a, furthermore, the breeding process of ailelopathic rice cultivars would be directed and monitored by this method. | 4 | Nondestructive determination of nutritional information in oilseed rape leaves using visible/near infrared spectroscopy and multivariate calibrations显示文摘Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content are the three most important nutritional parameters for growing oilseed rape. We investigated visible and near infrared (Vis/NIR) spectroscopy combined with chemometrics for the fast and nondestructive determination of nutritional information in oilseed rape leaves. A total of 154 leaf samples were collected, with 104 randomly selected as the calibration set, and the remaining 50 samples used as the validation set. The performance of eight different preprocessing methods was compared in partial least squares (PLS) models. Some effective wavelengths selected by a successive projections algorithm (SPA) were also used to develop linear SPA-PLS, nonlinear back propagation neural network (BPNN), and nonlinear least squares-support vector machine (LS-SVM) models to determine nutritional information. The best prediction models were DOSC-PLS for nitrogen with r=0.9743 and RMSEP=0.1459, DOSC-SPA-BPNN for phosphorus with r=0.7054 and RMSEP=0.0594, and DOSC-SPA-BPNN for potassium with r=0.9380 and RMSEP=0.1788. The prediction precision for nitrogen and potassium determinations was acceptable for further practical applications, whereas further studies are needed to improve the prediction precision for phosphorus. The results indicated that Vis/NIR spectroscopy is feasible for nondestructive determination of nutritional information in oilseed rape leaves. | 5 | Profiling of the transcriptome of Porphyra yezoensis with Solexa sequencing technology显示文摘With high-throughput Solexa sequencing technology,we profiled Porphyra yezoensis transcriptomes from 8 different samples. More than 1200 megabases from 13333334 quality paired-end reads were generated,which were assembled into 31538 unigenes. Blast analysis showed that 56.7%unigenes were novel,which represented the specific genes of Porphyra and/or rhodophytes. | 6 | Effects of dietary protein restriction on muscle fiber characteristics and m TORC1 pathway in the skeletal muscle of growing-finishing pigs显示文摘Background: To investigate the effects of dietary crude protein(CP) restriction on muscle fiber characteristics and key regulators related to protein deposition in skeletal muscle, a total of 18 growing-finishing pigs(62.30 ± 0.88 kg)were allotted to 3 groups and fed with the recommended adequate protein(AP, 16 % CP) diet, moderately restricted protein(MP, 13 % CP) diet and low protein(LP, 10 % CP) diet, respectively. The skeletal muscle of different locations in pigs, including longissimus dorsi muscle(LDM), psoas major muscle(PMM) and biceps femoris muscle(BFM) were collected and analyzed.Results: Results showed that growing-finishing pigs fed the MP or AP diet improved(P < 0.01) the average daily gain and feed: gain ratio compared with those fed the LP diet, and the MP diet tended to increase(P = 0.09) the weight of LDM. Moreover, the ATP content and energy charge value were varied among muscle samples from different locations of pigs fed the reduced protein diets. We also observed that pigs fed the MP diet up-regulated(P < 0.05) muscular m RNA expression of all the selected key genes, except that myosin heavy chain(My HC) IIb,My HC IIx, while m RNA expression of ubiquitin ligases genes was not affected by dietary CP level. | 7 | Status and distribution changes of the endangered Green Peafowl (Pavo muticus) in China over the past three decades (1990s-2017)显示文摘Background: Understanding the changes in population dynamics, including demographics, distribution and threats, is essential for species status assessing. The endangered Green Peafowl(Pavo muticus) has experienced sharp population declines and distribution range diminishing both in China and Southeast Asia. Field population surveys have not been conducted in China since the 1990 s, which hindered conservation planning and decision-making.Methods: With interview and line transects methods, we figured out the population and distribution changes of Green Peafowl across its historical ranges over the past three decades in China during 2014-2017.Results: The Green Peafowl once habituated in 54 counties in China. Nearly 60% of the distribution counties were lost in the past three decades, with the left 22 counties distributed in central, southern and western Yunnan, SW China. Population decrease detected in all distribution areas except for Shuangbai and Xinping county where more than 60% of the total population is located. Only about 30% of the former bird population were recorded with the same interviewing method as 20 years ago. Three birds, 1 carcass, 6 calls and 12 footprints were detected along the 865 km line transects, indic-ating extremely low encounter rate of Green Peafowl in field. Sharp decreases in flock sizes were also detected, from 820 birds per flock in the 1990 s to 3-5 birds at present. Poaching and habitat conversion are two widespread and long-lasting threats, while poisoning caused mortality in the past and hydropower construction affect regional population's survival. Large flocks of 18–27 birds were discovered in the field, which increases our confidence of population recovery of this endangered pheasant in China.Conclusions: Only interviewed bird number and counts based on line transects were presented in this study, without further population estimation due to limitation of the data sets. | 8 | SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis regulates early brain injury induced by subarachnoid hemorrhage via inflammatory responses显示文摘The SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis is strongly associated with tumor growth and progression,and participates in cytokine secretion in many diseases.However,the effects of the SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis in experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage remain to be studied.A subarachnoid hemorrhage model was established in rats by infusing autologous blood into the optic chiasm pool.Some rats were first treated with JAK2/STAT3 small interfering RNA(Si-JAK2/Si-STAT3)or overexpression plasmids of JAK2/STAT3.In the brains of subarachnoid hemorrhage model rats,the expression levels of both JAK2 and STAT3 were upregulated and the expression of SOCS1 was downregulated,reaching a peak at 48 hours after injury.Simultaneously,the interactions between JAK2 and SOCS1 were reduced.In contrast,the interactions between JAK2 and STAT3 were markedly enhanced.Si-JAK2 and Si-STAT3 treatment alleviated cortical neuronal cell apoptosis and necrosis,destruction of the blood-brain barrier,brain edema,and cognitive functional impairment after subarachnoid hemorrhage.This was accompanied by decreased phosphorylation of JAK2 and STAT3 protein,decreased total levels of JAK2 and STAT3 protein,and increased SOCS1 protein expression.However,overexpression of JAK2 and STAT3 exerted opposite effects,aggravating subarachnoid hemorrhage-induced early brain injury.Si-JAK2 and Si-STAT3 inhibited M1-type microglial conversion and the release of pro-inflammatory factors(inducible nitric oxide synthase,interleukin-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-α)and increased the release of anti-inflammatory factors(arginase-1,interleukin-10,and interleukin-4).Furthermore,primary neurons stimulated with oxyhemoglobin were used to simulate subarachnoid hemorrhage in vitro,and the JAK2 inhibitor AG490 was used as an intervention.The in vitro results also suggested that neuronal protection is mediated by the inhibition of JAK2 and STAT3 expression.Together,our findings indicate that the SOCS1/JAK2/STAT3 axis contributes to early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage both in vitro and in vivo by inducing inflammatory responses.This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Anhui Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China(approval No.LLSC-20180202)on March 1,2018. | Yang Wang Xiang-Qian Kong Fei Wu Bin Xu De-Jun Bao Chuan-Dong Cheng Xiang-Ping Wei Yong-Fei Dong Chao-Shi Niu | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,12: | 11 |

| 11 | Comprehensive Mineral Nutrition Analysis of Watermelon Grafted onto Two Different Rootstocks显示文摘Grafting is a widely used practice in fruit-bearing vegetables. However, why grafting affects plant growth, fruit yield, and quality, especially from the aspect of mineral nutrition, remains unclear. In this study, watermelon cultivar ‘Zaojia 8424' was grafted onto bottle gourd ‘Jingxinzhen1'(Lagenaria siceraria) and pumpkin ‘Qingyanzhen 1'(Cucurbita maxima × C. moschata). Non-grafted plants were used as the control. Results show that rootstock grafting significantly increases plant growth and single fruit weight of watermelon. Watermelon grafted onto rootstocks, especially pumpkin, exhibits significantly higher root volume, root surface area, and number of root tips and forks in comparison with non-grafted plants. Fruit flesh, rind firmness, and rind thickness were enhanced by grafting. However, fruit soluble solids and taste significantly decreased in plants grafted onto pumpkin. The total uptake(mg · plant^(-1)) and concentration(mg · g^(-1)DW) of N, K, Ca, Fe, Mg, and Mn in root, stem, leaf,fruit rind, and flesh were generally higher in grafted plants compared to non-grafted ones, especially for N of pumpkin rootstock-grafted plants.The total uptake of nutrients of plants grafted onto bottle gourd and pumpkin was increased by 30.41% and 49.14% at fruit development stage and by 21.33% and 47.46% at fruit maturation stage, respectively, compared with non-grafted plants. | 14 | Novel slack-based robust scheduling rule for a semiconductor manufacturing system with uncertain processing time显示文摘The NP-hard scheduling problems of semiconductor manufacturing systems(SMSs) are further complicated by stochastic uncertainties. Reactive scheduling is a common dynamic scheduling approach where the scheduling scheme is refreshed in response to real-time uncertainties. The scheduling scheme is overly sensitive to the emergence of uncertainties because the optimization of performance(such as minimum make-span) and the system robustness cannot be achieved simultaneously by conventional reactive scheduling methods. To improve the robustness of the scheduling scheme, we propose a novel slack-based robust scheduling rule(SR) based on the analysis of robustness measurement for SMS with uncertain processing time. The decision in the SR is made in real time given the robustness. The proposed SR is verified under different scenarios, and the results are compared with the existing heuristic rules. | 15 | DNA methyltransferase3a expression is an independent poor prognostic indicator in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To explore the alteration of DNA methyltransferase expression in gastric cancer and to assess its prognostic value.METHODS: From April 2000 to December 2010, 227men and 73 women with gastric cancer were enrolled in the study. The expression of DNA methyltransferases(DNMTs), including DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b,in the 300 cases of gastric carcinoma, of which 85 hadpaired adjacent normal gastric mucus samples, was evaluated by immunohistochemistry using a tissue microarray. Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) IgG was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). The relationships between the above results and the clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed. Their prognostic value was evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards model.RESULTS: In gastric cancer, expression of DNMTs was mainly seen in the nucleus. Weak staining was also observed in the cytoplasm. Expression of DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b in gastric cancer was significantly higher compared to that in the paired control samples(60.0% vs 37.6%, 61.2% vs 4.7%, and 94.1% vs 71.8%, P < 0.01). The overall survival rate was significantly higher in the DNMT3a negative group than in the DNMT3a positive group in gastric cancer patients(Log-rank test, P = 0.032). No significant correlation was observed between DNMT1 and DNMT3b expression and the overall survival time(Log-rank test, P = 0.289, P = 0.347). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that DNMT3a expression(P = 0.025) and TNM stage(P < 0.001), but not DNMT1(P = 0.54) or DNMT3b(P = 0.62), were independent prognostic factors in gastric cancer. H. pylori infection did not induce protein expression of DNMTs.CONCLUSION: The results suggest that expression of DNMT3a is an independent poor prognostic indicator in gastric cancer. | 18 | Ultrasound-guided,direct suprainguinal injection for fascia iliaca block for total hip arthroplasty:A retrospective study显示文摘BACKGROUND Peripheral regional block combined with general anesthesia might be a preferable anesthetic regimen for elderly patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.AIM To investigate whether ultrasound-guided,direct suprainguinal injection for fascia iliaca block accelerated recovery after general anesthesia and relieved postoperative pain after total hip arthroplasty.METHODS Patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty under general anesthesia in 2015 or 2019 at The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University were retrospectively analyzed.The patients were grouped based on whether preoperative suprainguinal fascia iliaca block was performed or not.The time to tracheal extubation and time spent in the post-anesthesia care unit(PACU),intraoperative remifentanil dosage,fentanyl consumption in the PACU,postoperative cumulative fentanyl consumption within 48 h after operation,visual analogue scale at rest and during movement on the first and second days after surgery,and adverse reactions were compared.RESULTS Thirty-one elderly patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty were included in the study(block group,n=16;no-block group,n=15).The visual analog scale scores at rest and during movement on the first and second days were significantly lower in the block group than in the no-block group(all P<0.05).Compared with the no-block group,the intraoperative remifentanil dosage was lower,the time to tracheal extubation and the time spent in the PACU were shorter in the block group(all P<0.01).Fentanyl consumption in the PACU and postoperative cumulative fentanyl consumption in 48 h after operation were lower in the block group(all P<0.01).The incidence of dizziness was higher in the no-block group than in the block group(P=0.037).CONCLUSION Ultrasound-guided,direct suprainguinal injection for fascia iliaca block led to faster recovery after general anesthesia and early postoperative pain relief in elderly patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty. | Ya-Li Wang Yun-Qing Liu Hua Ni Xin-Lei Zhang Li Ding Fei Tong Hong-Ye Chen Xin-Hua Zhang Ming-Jian Kong | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,15: | 4 |

| 20 | Serum semaphorin 4C as a diagnostic biomarker in breast cancer:A multicenter retrospective study显示文摘Background:To date,there is no approved blood-based biomarker for breast cancer detection.Herein,we aimed to assess semaphorin 4C(SEMA4C),a pivotal protein involved in breast cancer progression,as a serum diagnostic biomarker.Methods:We included 6,213 consecutive inpatients from Tongji Hospital,Qilu Hospital,and Hubei Cancer Hospital.Training cohort and two validation cohorts were introduced for diagnostic exploration and validation.A pan-cancer cohort was used to independently explore the diagnostic potential of SEMA4C among solid tumors.Breast cancer patients who underwent mass excision prior to modified radical mastectomy were also analyzed.We hypothesized that increased pretreatment serum SEMA4C levels,measured using optimized in-house enzymelinked immunosorbent assay kits,could detect breast cancer.The endpoints were diagnostic performance,including area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),sensitivity,and specificity.Post-surgery pathological diagnosis was the reference standard and breast cancer staging followed the TNM classification.There was no restriction on disease stage for eligibilities.Results:We included 2667 inpatients with breast lesions,2378 patients with other solid tumors,and 1168 healthy participants.Specifically,118 patients with breast cancer were diagnosed with stage 0(5.71%),620 with stage I(30.00%),966 with stage II(46.73%),217 with stage III(10.50%),and 8 with stage IV(0.39%).Patients with breast cancer had significantly higher serum SEMA4C levels than benign breast tumor patients and normal controls(P<0.001).Elevated serum SEMA4C levels had AUC of 0.920(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.900–0.941)and 0.932(95%CI:0.911–0.953)for breast cancer detection in the two validation cohorts.The AUCs for detecting early-stage breast cancer(n=366)and ductal carcinoma in situ(n=85)were 0.931(95%CI:0.916–0.946)and 0.879(95%CI:0.832–0.925),respectively.Serum SEMA4C levels significantly decreased after surgery,and the reduction was more striking after modified radical mastectomy,compared with mass excision(P<0.001).The positive rate of enhanced serum SEMA4C levels was 84.77%for breast cancer and below 20.75%for the other 14 solid tumors.Conclusions:Serum SEMA4C demonstrated promising potential as a candidate biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis.However,validation in prospective settings and by other study groups is warranted. | Ya Wang Long Qiao Jie Yang Xiong Li Yaqi Duan Jiahao Liu Shaoqi Chen Huayi Li Dan Liu Tian Fang Jingjing Ma Xiaoting Li Fei Ye Junxiang Wan Juncheng Wei Qin Xu Ensong Guo Ping Jin Mingfu Wu Lin Zhang Yun Xia Yaqun Wu Jun Shao Yaojun Feng Qing Zhang Zongyuan Yang Gang Chen Qinghua Zhang Xingrui Li Shixuan Wang Junbo Hu Xiaoyun Wang Mona P.Tan Kazuaki Takabe Beihua Kong Qifeng Yang Ding Ma Qinglei Gao | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,12: | 3 |
