1LHD1,an Allele of DTH8/Ghd8,Controls Late Heading Date in Common Wild Rice (Oryza rufipogon)显示文摘Flowering at suitable time is very important for plants to adapt to complicated environments and produce their seeds successfully for reproduction.In rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) photoperiod regulation is one of the important factors for controlling heading date.Common wild rice,the ancestor of cultivated rice,exhibits a late heading date and a more sensitive photoperiodic response than cultivated rice.Here,through map-based cloning,we identified a major quantitative trait loci (QTL) LHD1 (Late Heading Date 1),an allele of DTH8/Ghd8,which controls the late heading date of wild rice and encodes a putative HAP3/NF-YB/CBF-A subunit of the CCAAT-box-binding transcription factor.Sequence analysis revealed that several variants in the coding region of LHD1 were correlated with a late heading date,and a further complementary study successfully rescued the phenotype.These results suggest that a functional site for LHD1 could be among those variants present in the coding region.We also found that LHD1 could down-regulate the expression of several floral transition activators such as Ehd1,Hd3a and RFT1 under long-day conditions,but not under short-day conditions.This indicates that LHD1 may delay flowering by repressing the expression of Ehd1,Hd3a and RFT1 under long-day conditions.Xiaodong Dai Younian Ding Lubin Tan Yongcai Fu Fengxia Liu Zuofeng Zhu Xianyou Sun Xuewen Sun Ping Gu Hongwei Cai Chuanqing Sun 2012Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2012,54,10:23
2Natural Variations at TIG1 Encoding a TCP Tran scription Factor Contribute to Plant Architecture Domestication in Rice显示文摘The modification of plant architecture is a crucial target in rice domestication and modern genetic improvement.Although several genes regulating rice plant architecture have been characterized,the molecular mechanisms underlying rice plant architecture domestication remain largely unclear.Here we show that the inclined tiller growth in wild rice is controlled by a single dominant gene,TILLER INCLINED GROWTH 1 (T/Gf),which is located on chromosome 8 and encodes a TCP transcriptional activator.TIG1 is primarily expressed in the adaxial side of the tiller base,promotes cell elongation,and enlarges the tiller angle in wild rice.Variations in the TIG1 promoter of indica cultivars {tig1 allele) resulted in decreased expression of TIG1 in the adaxial side of tiller base and reduced cell length and tiller angle,leading to the transition from inclined tiller growth in wild rice to erect tiller growth during rice domestication.TIG1 positively regulates the expression of EXP A3,EXPB5,and SAUR39 to promote cell elongation and increase the tiller angle.Selective sweep analysis revealed that the tig1 allele was selected in indica cultivars by human beings.The cloning and characterization of TIG1 supports a new scenario of plant architecture evolution in rice.Weifeng Zhang Lubin Tan Hongying Sun Xinhui Zhao Fengxia Liu Hongwei Cai Yongcai Fu Xianyou Sun Ping Gu Zuofeng Zhu Chuanqing Sun 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,8:13
3Ranking Agricultural Sub-basins for Environmental Protection显示文摘Reconstructing long-term vegetation buffers along streams in agricultural landscapes has become a common environmental restoration strategy for improving water quality and wildlife habitat connectivity.This article developed a linear weighted model to rank the priority of agricultural sub-basins for the establishment of vegetative buffers.The method was applied to an agricultural watershed of 146 km2 in Ontario,Canada.The watershed was divided into 11 sub-basins as basic decision units.In each subbasin,four stream buffer schemes with widths of 5,10,15 and 20m were generated.For each buffer,three benefit-cost attributes of reconstructing vegetation cover were estimated,which include acreage per dollar,sediment abatement per dollar and habitat benefit per dollar.These attributes were first normalized using a linear normalization approach to eliminate the effects across different units.The normalized attributes were then integrated using a simple additive weighting method to rank the 11 sub-basins for prioritizing spatial restoration action.A sensitivity analysis was also conducted to observe the impact of a change in attribute weights on the management decisions.The results suggest that vegetation buffers reconstructed for achieving the water quality goal are not effective in improving habitat connectivity and vice versa.Liu Wenbao Gu Fengxia 2010Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2010,8,1:1
4The genetic control of glabrous glume during African rice domestication显示文摘African cultivated rice,Oryza glaberrima,is characterized by its glabrous glumes.During domestication,the pubescent glumes of its wild ancestor,Oryza barthii,lost their trichomes,and in this study,we show that glabrous glume 5(GLAG5),a WUSCHEL-like homeobox transcription factor gene on chromosome 5,is required for trichome development.DNA methylation associated with an hATtransposable element inserted in the promoter region of GLAG5 is found to reduce its expression,leading to the formation of glabrous glumes and leaves in African cultivated rice.Among 82 African cultivated rice varieties investigated in this study,59(approximately 71%)lines exhibit glabrous glumes and harbor the hAT transposon;however,the other 23 varieties(approximately 29%),which exhibit pubescent glumes,lack the hAT transposon,indicating that glag5 had undergone strong artificial selection.Theπ;/π;ratios also show the hAT transposon insertions influence the genetic diversity of an approximately 150-kb interval encompassing the GLAG5 locus.The identification of the GLAG5 gene provides new insights into the domestication of cultivated rice in Africa.We speculate that the selection of varieties with mutations in their promoter regions is an important aspect of crop domestication.Leqin Chang Min Hu Jing Ning Wei He Jiayu Gao Marie-Noelle Ndjiondjop Yongcai Fu Fengxia Liu Hongying Sun Ping Gu Chuanqing Sun Zuofeng Zhu 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,5:1

6Geographical Design of Riparian Buffers with Long-term Vegetation Cover Reconstructed in Agricultural Landscapes显示文摘Reconstructing long-term vegetation cover along streams has become a popular practice for ecological restoration in fragmented agricultural landscapes.To maximize ecological restoration benefits with the least cost,this paper developed a GIS-based model framework for the geographical design of the location and width of riparian buffers to be reconstructed with long-term vegetation cover.The framework integrated three models:the 0-1 mathematical programming model,an economical model and an ecological model.It was tested in an agricultural landscape with a drainage system consisting of 92 stream segments with cropland banks.Each segment had fi ve restoration options in terms of buffer width:0,5,10,15 and 20 m,thus making a total of 460 decision units in the landscape.For each unit,the economical model estimated the annual rental payment to the farmer who owned the targeted cropland margin along a stream to be converted into a vegetation buffer,whereas the ecological model predicted its corresponding habitat benefi ts at the landscape level.The 0-1 programming model minimized the total payments,subject to the designed habitat improvement and proposed acreages of riparian cropland set-aside annually.The model identifi ed a cost-effective combination of riparian buffers from 460 units.The results showed that achieving the habitat improvement goal at the least cost required a spatial configuration of vegetation buffers with variable width.This finding suggests that the size and location of buffers directly affect restoration costs and environmental benefi ts.Thus,the best management practices of agricultural landscape restoration can only be achieved by a specifi c geographical design with the model framework.LIU Wenbao GU Fengxia 2009Journal of Northeast Agricultural University(English Edition)2009,16,4:0
7Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS to the Assessment of Riparian Zones for Environmental Restoration in Agricultural Watersheds显示文摘Geographical design of riparian buffers with long-term vegetation cover for environmental restoration in agricultural watersheds needs to assess how much farmland is located in the buffers of a concerned watershed.Traditionally,this assessment was done by field surveying and manual mapping,which was a time-consuming and costly process for a large region.In this paper,remote sensing(RS) and geographical information system(GIS) as cost-effective techniques were used to develop a catchments-based approach for identifying critical sites of agricultural riparian buffer restoration.The method was explained through a case study of watershed with 11 catchments and results showed that only four of the catchments were eligible in terms of higher priority for riparian buffer restoration.This research has methodological contributions to the spatial assessment of farming intensities in catchments-based riparian buffers across a watershed and to the geographical designs of variable buffering scenarios within catchments.The former makes the catchments-based management strategy possible,and the latter provides alternative restoration scenarios to meet different management purposes,both of which have direct implementations to the environmental restoration of riparian buffers in the real world.This study,thus,highlights the great potential of RS and GIS applications to the planning and management of riparian buffer restoration in agricultural watersheds.GU Fengxia LIU Wenbao 2010Geo-Spatial Information Science2010,13,4:0
