| 3 | Preparation process of bio-oil and bio-asphalt,their performance,and the application of bio-asphalt:A comprehensive review显示文摘The objective of this paper is to establish the state of knowledge on fast pyrolysis of bio-oil and bio-asphalt binder and to facilitate efforts in improving the overall perform ance of bioasphalt and maximizing its road application.On the basis of reviewing the relevant literature recently,the fast pyrolysis(FasP) preparation process of bio-oil and its main properties,the preparation process of bio-asphalt and its performance and the application of bio-asphalt have been summarized.Due to the variations in raw materials,the adopted methods of FasP to prepare bio-oil could be different,and the properties of bio-oil from different sources are also different.At present,the plant-based bio-oil(mainly derived from wood waste and sawdust) has been widely used to prepare the bio-asphalt.Research on the low-temperature flexibility,high-temperature rheology,workability and other performance of biological asphalt showed that the workability and high-temperature performance of most asphalt are improved after adding bio-oil.However,the low-temperature performance is found to relatively reduce.Also,with regards to its application as a rejuvenator,bio-oil can considerably rejuvenate the aged asphalt’s mixture performance.By far,most of research on bio-asphalt is still focused on the performance of bio-asphalt binder in the laboratory;its application in practical road engineering is still to be examined.This review also provides an outlook for the future,for example,establishing an integrated preparation process from bio-oil to bio-asphalt,and evaluating the properties of bioasphalt by new standards. | Hainian Wang Ziye Ma Xi Chen Mohd Rosli Mohd Hasan | 2020 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2020,7,2: | 5 |

| 5 | Highway constructions on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau:Challenge,research and practice显示文摘Highway constructions on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)face great challenges induced by the unique local environmental,geological,and engineering conditions.The large area of permafrost,great temperature variability,strong UV rays,and complex geological conditions are the major factors that adversely influence the longterm performance of pavement systems.Since 1960s,Chinese engineers and researchers have started conducting research on the QTP to enhance the performance and durability of pavement systems.The present paper provide a comprehensive review of challenge,research and practice of highway constructions on the QTP including the special environmental and geological conditions,history of highway constructions on the QTP,major challenges and the state-of-the-art technology of subgrade constructions on permafrost,developments of the pavement structures and materials,performance prediction and maintenance methods of pavement surfaces,and applications of the research achievements on the first expressway on the QTP(i.e.,Gongyu Expressway).Based on the comprehensive literature review,it can be found that(1)frost heave and thaw weakening induced subgrade disease and longitudinal cracks on the pavement surface are complex coupled water-thermal-load problems.Engineering solutions are focusing on active cooling and thermal insulation methods,which can help to reduce temperature variations in the subgrade and thus improving its stability,(2)the harsh environmental and construction conditions may reduce the early strength and induce premature damage of cement-treated base materials.Some field validations showed that geocell-reinforced or asphalt-treated flexible base materials can provide better long-term performance,(3)the large temperature variability and strong UV rays can significantly accelerate aging of asphalt binders and greatly reduce the service life of asphalt mixtures.Various binder modification methods were developed for improving their viscoelasticity and enhance the low-temperature cracking resistance of pavement surface materials but are still lack of field validation data and comparisons of their life cycle costs.Therefore,it is recommended that a demonstration research project build test sections to examine a range of pavement structures and materials,and compare their long-term performance and life cycle costs,which can serve as important reference for future highway constructions on the QTP. | Aimin Sha Biao Ma Hainian Wang Liqun Hu Xuesong Mao Xilan Zhi Huaxin Chen Yu Liu Feng Ma Zhuangzhuang Liu Rui He Wei Si Xuhao Wang Cheng Li | 2022 | Journal of Road Engineering2022,2,1: | 4 |
| 6 | Dark solitons in WS_2 erbium-doped fiber lasers显示文摘Tungsten disulfide(WS_2) is a type of anisotropic-layered compound and has broadband saturable absorption features as saturable absorbers(SAs). With WS_2-based SAs, dark solitons in erbium-doped fiber(EDF) lasers are first obtained. For the generated dark solitons, the center wavelength is measured to be 1530 nm, and the repetition rate is about 116.5 MHz. A series of optical spectra is exhibited. | 7 | Sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking on asphalt pavement using MEPDG in permafrost region显示文摘Longitudinal cracking is one of the most important distresses of asphalt pavement in permafrost regions. The sensitivity analysis of design parameters for asphalt pavement can be used to study the influence of every parameter on longitudinal cracking, which can help optimizing the design of the pavement structure. In this study, 20 test sections of Qinghai e Tibet Highway were selected to conduct the sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking on material parameter based on Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide(MEPDG) and single factorial sensitivity analysis method. Some computer aided engineering(CAE) simulation techniques, such as the Latin hypercube sampling(LHS) technique and the multiple regression analysis are used as auxiliary means.Finally, the sensitivity spectrum of material parameter on longitudinal cracking was established. The result shows the multiple regression analysis can be used to determine the remarkable influence factor more efficiently and to process the qualitative analysis when applying the MEPDG software in sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking in permafrost regions. The effect weights of the three parameters on longitudinal cracking in descending order are air void, effective binder content and PG grade. The influence of air void on top layer is bigger than that on middle layer and bottom layer. | 9 | Impact of Freeze-Thaw Cycles on Compressive Characteristics of Asphalt Mixture in Cold Regions显示文摘Low average temperature, large temperature difference and continual freeze-thaw(F-T) cycles have significant impacts on mechanical property of asphalt pavement. F-T cycles test was applied to illustrate the mixtures' compressive characteristics. Exponential model was applied to analyze the variation of compressive characteristics with F-T cycles; Loss ratio model and Logistic model were used to present the deterioration trend with the increase of F-T cycles. ANOVA was applied to show the significant impact of F-T cycles and asphaltaggregate ratio. The experiment results show that the compressive strength and resilient modulus decline with increasing F-T cycles; the degradation is sharp during the initial F-T cycles, after 8 F-T cycles it turns to gentle. ANOVA results show that F-T cycles, and asphalt-aggregate ratio have significant influence on the compressive characteristics. Exponential model, Loss ratio model and Logistic model are significantly fitting the test data from statistics view. | 16 | Nonlinear optical properties of WSe_2 and MoSe_2 films and their applications in passively Q-switched erbium doped fiber lasers显示文摘Transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs) are successfully applied in fiber lasers for their photoelectric properties.However, in previous work, how to improve the modulation depth of TMD-based saturable absorbers(SAs) has been a challenging issue. In this paper, WSe_2 and MoSe_2 SAs are fabricated with the chemical vapor deposition method. Compared with previous experiments, the modulation depths of WSe_2 and MoSe_2 SAs with sandwiched structures are effectively increased to 31.25% and 25.69%, respectively. The all-fiber passively Q-switched erbium doped fiber lasers based on WSe_2 and MoSe_2 SAs are demonstrated. The signal-to-noise ratios of those lasers are measured to be 72 and 57 dB, respectively. | 17 | Bio-based and nature inspired solutions: A step toward carbon-neutral economy显示文摘Bio-based and nature-inspired solutions have been investigated recently to develop sustainable,resilient,and durable construction including but not limited to roadway infrastructures.This paper reviews state-of-the-art studies on self-healing,self-cleaning and self-rejuvenating asphalt,and concrete construction.This review draws three conclusions.(1)Self-healing construction materials have the potential to significantly extend the service life of construction elements.Urban and industrial wastes such as food waste,biomass,metals have been used to create self-healing construction materials that are more environmentally friendly.(2)Self-cleaning construction materials not only remove pollution by repelling water on their superhydrophobic surface,but also cut building and infrastructure maintenance costs,while improving cities'air quality by degrading pollutants such as NOx.Pavement engineers have exploited self-cleaning characteristic to facilitate the de-icing of pavements and lengthening the service life of pavements.(3)Self-rejuvenating materials including bio-oils can revitalize materials and delay aging;bio-oils can also be used to make bio-binders,thereby reducing the need for petroleumbased binders.The optimum concentration of bio-oil for asphalt modification depends on the chemical structure of oils.Still,regardless of dosage,self-rejuvenating binders improve asphalt workability and performance at low temperatures and increase the resistance of the asphalt mix to fatigue and cracking.This review also identified critical research gaps,including(1)the lack of a reliable,unified,and standard method to accurately measure construction materials’self-healing,self-cleaning and self-rejuvenating properties;(2)the lack of longterm field performance data to conduct comprehensive life cycle assessment and life cycle analysis;(3)the lack of accurate technoeconomic analysis to facilitate market entry of abovementioned solutions.Addressing these gaps and determining contribution of nature-inspired and bio-based technologies to a carbon neutral economy along with issuing carbon certificates can facilitate the widespread application of these technologies while promoting resource conservation and sustainability. | Mohammadjavad Kazemi Hainian Wang Elham Fini | 2022 | Journal of Road Engineering2022,2,3: | 1 |
