| 4 | Sulfur isotopic composition of the Bainiuchang super-large Ag polymetallic deposit,Yunnan Province,China: Implications for the source of sulfur in ore-forming fluids显示文摘The Bainiuchang deposit in Yunnan Province, China, is located geographically between the Gejiu ore field and the Dulong ore field. In addition to >7000 t Ag reserves, the deposit possesses large-scale Pb, Zn, Sn reserves and a mass of dispersed elements (i.e., In, Cd, Ge, Ga, etc.). Based on systematic studies of sulfur isotopic composition, the authors conclude: The Bainiuchang deposit experienced two epochs of metallogenesis, i.e., the Middle-Cambrian sea-floor exhalative sedimentary metallogenic epoch and the Yanshanian magmatic hydrothermal superimposition metallogenic epoch. In the two metallogenic epochs, the δ34S values of sulfides were all near 0, showing a tendency of being enriched slightly in heavy sulfur. The δ34S values of sulfides in the early metallogenic epoch are within the range of 2‰–5‰ with a peak value range of 2‰–3‰ and an average of 3.0‰, and those of sulfides in the late metallogenic epoch are within the range of 2‰–6‰ with a peak value of 3‰–4‰ and an average of 3.9‰. For the single metallogenic epoch, sulfur in the ore-forming fluids in the early epoch already reached isotopic equilibrium and was derived mainly from underneath the magma chamber or basement metamorphic igneous rocks. | 7 | Publication trends in studies examining radix notoginseng as a treatment for ischemic brain injury显示文摘Acute ischemic stroke has become a major disease burden with high mortality and morbidity rates. There is a lack of evidence-based medicine confirming the efficacy of common treatments. Panax notoginseng saponins, the main active ingredient of radix notoginseng, have a neuroprotective role in ischemic brain injury, and have been popularized as a maintenance treatment for acute cerebral infarction and its sequelae. We conducted literature searches on the Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, Cochrane Collaboration, CNKI, Wanfang and the China Scientific & Technological Achievements Database and analyzed the experimental and clinical outcomes of studies investigating the use of radix notoginseng in the treatment of ischemic brain injury to improve the understanding of relevant research trends and existing problems. We found that over the past 10 years, China has maintained its interest in Panax notoginseng research, while such studies are scarce on the Web of Science. However, Chinese researchers often focus on the neuroprotective role of radix notoginseng in ischemic brain injury, but there are no large-scale clinical data to confirm its efficacy and safety. | 8 | Deterministic Approach to Achieve Full-Polarization Cloak显示文摘Achieving full-polarization(σ)invisibility on an arbitrary three-dimensional(3D)platform is a long-held knotty issue yet extremely promising in real-world stealth applications.However,state-of-the-art invisibility cloaks typically work under a specific polarization because the anisotropy and orientation-selective resonant nature of artificial materials made theσ-immune operation elusive and terribly challenging.Here,we report a deterministic approach to engineer a metasurface skin cloak working under an arbitrary polarization state by theoretically synergizing two cloaking phase patterns required,respectively,at spin-up(σ+)and spin-down(σ−)states.Therein,the wavefront of any light impinging on the cloak can be well preserved since it is a superposition ofσ+andσ−wave.To demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability,several proof-of-concept metasurface cloaks are designed to wrap over a 3D triangle platform at microwave frequency.Results show that our cloaks are essentially capable of restoring the amplitude and phase of reflected beams as if light was incident on a flat mirror or an arbitrarily predesigned shape under full polarization states with a desirable bandwidth of~17.9%,conceiving or deceiving an arbitrary object placed inside.Our approach,deterministic and robust in terms of accurate theoretical design,reconciles the milestone dilemma in stealth discipline and opens up an avenue for the extreme capability of ultrathin 3D cloaking of an arbitrary shape,paving up the road for real-world applications. | He-Xiu Xu Yanzhao Wang Chaohui Wang Mingzhao Wang Shaojie Wang Fei Ding Yongjun Huang Xiaokuan Zhang Haiwen Liu Xiaohui Ling Wei Huang | 2021 | Research2021,,1: | 5 |
| 9 | Sea-floor exhalative sedimentary and magmatic hydrothermal superimposition on the Bainiuchang polymetallic deposit in Yunnan Province: REE geochemical evidence显示文摘In order to study the characteristics of sea-floor exhalative sedimentary and magmatic hydrothermal superimposition on the Bainiuchang polymetallic deposit, the REE compositions of the granites, host-rocks and ores have been systematically analyzed by ICP-MS. As viewed from their REE compositions, the granites show obvious negative Eu anomalies and weak negative Ce anomalies. According to their REE characteristics, the host-rocks were derived partly from sea-floor exhalative sediments. In terms of their REE compositions, the ores can be divided into two groups: one group, of which the samples were collected from the Baiyang segment relatively far away from the Bozhushan granite batholith, possesses positive Eu anomalies or no Eu anomaly and negative Ce anomalies, indicating that ore-forming hydrothermal fluid was relatively reductive and its temperature was higher than 250 ℃. Furthermore, the coinstantaneous presence of positive Eu anomalies and negative Ce anomalies indicate that the convective mixing of a little amount of seawater with hydrothermal fluid had happened while ores were precipitated on ancient sea floor. The other group, of which the samples were mainly collected from the Chuanxindong and Duimenshan segments near the Bozhushan granite batholith, has similar chondrite-monalized REE distribution patterns to those of the magmatic rocks. But as a whole, the REE characteristics of both groups change gradually starting from the Bozhushan granite batholith. | 11 | A Numerical Study of Mesoscale Vortex Formation in the Midlatitudes:The Role of Moist Processes显示文摘In this study, a three-dimensional mesoscale model was used to numerically simulate the well-known '98.7' heavy rainfall event that affected the Yangtze Valley in July 1998. Two experiments were conducted to analyze the impact of moist processes on the development of meso-β scale vortices(MβV) and their triggering by mesoscale wind perturbation(MWP). In the experiment in which the latent heat feedback(LHF) scheme was switched off, a stable low-level col field(i.e., saddle field—a region between two lows and two highs in the isobaric surface) formed, and the MWP triggered a weak MβV. However, when the LHF scheme was switched on as the MWP was introduced into the model, the MβV developed quickly and intense rainfall and a mesoscale low-level jet(mLLJ) were generated. The thickness of the air column and average temperature between 400 and 700 hPa decreased without the feedback of latent heat, whereas they increased quickly when the LHF scheme was switched on, with the air pressure falling at low levels but rising at upper levels. A schematic representation of the positive feedbacks among the mesoscale vortex, rainfall, and mLLJ shows that in the initial stage of the MβV, the MWP triggers light rainfall and the latent heat occurs at low levels, which leads to weak convergence and ageostrophic winds. In the mature stage of the MβV, convection extends to the middle-to-upper levels, resulting in an increase in the average temperature and a stretching of the air column. | 17 | Comparison of the diagnostic performances of circulating tumor cells and the serum tumor markers CEA,CA125,and CA15-3 for breast cancer:a retrospective case-control study显示文摘Objective:Serum tumor markers are seldom considered as diagnostic biomarkers for breast cancer because they lack good sensitivity or specificity.This study aimed to evaluate whether a combination of circulating tumor cells(CTCs)and the serum tumor markers carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),cancer antigen(CA)125,and CA15-3 might improve their diagnostic performance.Methods:We performed a retrospective case-control study of patients with breast cancer or benign breast diseases(BBD)and healthy female donors(HDs)who underwent preoperative CTC detection and serum tumor marker tests between December 2017 and November 2018.CTC detection and serum tumor marker test results were collected from 177 breast cancer patients,64 patients with BBD,and 20 HDs.Correlations between CTC,CEA,CA125,or CA15-3 and participants’clinical characteristics were then analyzed.The diagnostic performances of CTC,CEA,CA125,and CA15-3 were estimated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University,China(approval No.[2018]kuaishendi(75))on May 24,2018.Results:CTC,CEA,and CA15-3 were able to distinguish breast cancer patients from controls(BBD+HDs)(P<0.0001,P=0.0006,and P=0.0086,respectively).CTCs were associated with tumor size(P=0.0275)and lymph node involvement(P=0.0373),while CA15-3 was correlated with cancer stage(P=0.01)and lymph node involvement(P=0.001).The AUCs of CTCs,CEA,CA125,and CA15-3 were 0.845,0.623,0.477,and 0.58,respectively.CA125,with AUC<0.5,was not considered a biomarker for breast cancer.CEA and CA15-3 had low sensitivities(<10%)but high specificities(>98%).Combination with CTC improved the diagnostic performances of CEA and CA15-3 for breast cancer.CTC_CA15-3 had better diagnostic performance than CTC_CEA,with an AUC of 0.874,a sensitivity of 0.757,and a specificity of 0.905.Conclusion:CTCs,CEA,and CA15-3 are potential diagnostic biomarkers for breast cancer.The diagnostic performance of CEA and CA15-3 may be improved by combination with CTCs. | Yi Luan Jie Wei Ke Wang Donghao Cai Xiaohong Luo Wanhung Fan Haijiang Wang Chaohui Duan | 2021 | Journal of Bio-X Research2021,4,2: | 2 |

| 19 | Reappraise role of lymph node status in patterns of recurrence following curative resection of gastric adenocarcinoma显示文摘Objective: To examine the association between lymph node status and recurrence patterns in completely resected gastric adenocarcinoma.Methods: We retrospectively assessed 1,694 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy from January 2010 to August 2014. Patients stratified according to lymph node status and recurrence patterns among different subgroups were compared.Results: Of all, 517(30.5%) patients developed recurrent disease, and complete data of recurrence could be obtained in 493(95.4%) patients. For p^(N0) patients, the patterns of recurrence were different according to p T stage: locoregional recurrence was most common in patients with p T1-2 disease(57.1%), distant recurrence was most common in patients with p T3 disease(57.1%), and peritoneal recurrence was most common in patients with p T4 a disease(66.7%). For p^(N+) patients, distant metastasis was most common pattern irrespective of p T stage. The site-specific trend of recurrence showed that locoregional recurrence increased within 5 years in patients with p^(N0)-2 disease but plateaued 3 years after surgery in patients with p N3 disease. Time to recurrence was significantly longer for the p^(N0) patients compared with the p^(N+) patients(median: 25 vs. 16 months, P=0.001).Moreover, post-recurrence survival was significantly better for the p^(N0) patients than for the p^(N+) patients(median:12 vs. 6 months, P<0.001), especially in patients with non-peritoneal recurrence, late recurrence, single recurrence,and receipt of potential curative treatment.Conclusions: Among clinicopathologic factors, lymph node status is the most important factor associated with recurrence patterns after curative gastrectomy.
